THE CAP-AND-TRADE SCAM

The Democrats are working out the details of a massive wealth redistribution bill, all in the name of climate change. This is the liberal nirvana. You take a naturally recurring climatological phenomena and use scare tactics to stampede the great unwashed into supporting your tax and spend schemes. The looter's plan to limit greenhouse gases are not in the name of sound environmental science but in the name of more government. The Democrats want to use something known as "cap-and-trade" to lower naturally occurring emissions by 17% by 2020 and 83% by 2050.

The looters know that this is going to be expensive. So in order to offset the soaring energy costs associated with this plan ... which we will get to in a minute ... they want to create a system where the government would issue pollution allowances. These permits would then be traded in a government-designed marketplace.

Besides this artificial market, created entirely by government for government, cap-and-trade promises to cripple our economy. The Heritage Foundation has done an analysis of how this Waxman-Markey bill would affect our economy by 2035. Now 2035 might sound like a long way off .. but a child you have today will only be around 26 years ago and just starting to raise a family when that time comes. Here are their findings. Waxman's "environmental" bill would:

  • Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion
  • Destroy 1,105,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 2,479,000 jobs
  • Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation
  • Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent
  • Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent
  • Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500
  • Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 26 percent, or $29,150 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

I will guarantee you, folks, that the government already has plans to make sure that low-income Americans will not pay a dime in increased energy costs. This will be just another notch on the entitlement belt.

Speaking of scams .. don't let the government fool you into thinking that ethanol is going to solve all of our problems either. Not only is it worse for our environment but it is going to cost you money. When that ragtag band of tired socialists and communists ran for the hills with the fall of the Soviet Union they immediately started looking for a new vehicle they could use for their anti-capitalist agenda. They found it. The environment. And they're so glad that you're so easily conned.

  • Re: Shuttin Down
The word you are looking for is ENTROPY. The second law of thermodynamics states that entropy always increases. This is true when converting ANY type of fuel into useful work.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy

What you SHOULD be looking at is the efficiency of the various systems. For example... Look up the difference in efficiency between an internal combustion engine and a hydrogen fuel cell. Entropy is why there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. Work done = energy lost. Its as simple as that.
  • Obama's Economy Package
Is there any where on the web where the basics of the Obama Stimulus Package is broken down into basic numbers? How many billion to the War. How many billion to education. How many billion to planting flowers in concrete? etc....
  • Enron revisited
All Slap & Rape is nothing but Enron Gone Big Government.

This is exactly what Enron was, carbon credit markets.

    Enron died after Kyoto died.
  • re Obsess Much???
lol. guess you got me there, joyce.
  • Nuculer - LOL
    Gavin,

The nuculer misspelling was hilarious (GWB style).

BTW, I absolutely agree with your post.
  • crap
you talk so much Neal it is a shame pure crap
  • Oh Stan...
I'm not ashamed of giving my money to Arabs for oil when domestic production is stopped by the tree-huggers. It is far better than having it taken by the obamacrats and given to the entitlement crowd. At least I get something in return from the Arabs, unlike the entitlement group that just spits out more welfare babies and takes more of my money for NOTHING.
  • states rights vs cap & trade
I live in a state that gets 90% of its power from coal and natural gas fired generators. The cap and trade B.S. will mean energy cost increase min. 500% in my state. This is not mentioned in any of the media praise for the bill or ads promoting it are everywhere. The workings of the bill are not ever explained other than saying it will mean cleaner air, less oil imports, and claiming to create 45,000 new jobs(vs the 140,000 old energy jobs lost) in our state that cannot be shipped overseas. They fail to mention the increase cost of electricty(this is the TVA/Tenn. Valley Authority which sells power to 7 states)the ads encourage citizens to contact your congressmen,to let them know, that "WE"want this passed and give up our states rights by signing on to this california style, suicide pact energy bill that will completely wreck the ecomony of this area where wind or solar alternatives are not even possible. Most states don't have the conditions to produce enough energy this way. The states that do cannot even produce enough for their own use so where the hell are non-producers going to get their power? SCREW this cap and trade shit, NUCLEAR IS THE ONLY REASONABLE AND VIABLE OPTION!!but the greenie-weenies will kill that.If you invented a "power brick" that would be the size of a shoe-box,had a electrical outlet on it,provided enough power to run a house, didn't pollute or generate waste, cured cancer/aids/and the common cold and cost $3.75 to make the green/wackos would find something to stop it ever being made. Do the world a favor try to educate a greenie(if that don't work just shoot him)GO NUCLEAR DAMNIT!!!THE FRENCH CAN DO,HELL EVEN IRAN CAN DO IT SAFELY(and thats even with the threat of being bombed everyday for it)This country USED to be the"CAN DO!" nation, now we're the"NO WE CAN"T" nation.(OMG!I'm agreeing with gavin volaire....just kill me now please)
  • Obsess Much???
You can't even agree on a point without attacking someone?
  • The Great Ethanol Scam
Finally Ed Wallace makes it into Nealz Nuze. Ed has been on top of not only Ethanol but also MTBE (the precursor of Ehatnol) as well as the rise in oil prices last year. The head of ICE wrote him and tried to get his columns in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram pulled (because Ed was exposing him and his company's involvement in the spike). Way to go Neal!
  • obsess much?
I like how so many know what CopyLeft thinks on this topic when he hasn't even posted. Copy and others like him? And who is that? Pretty much anyone who didn't start their post with some clever can-n-trade pun? You're like a bunch of Emo kids all trying to express your individuality in exactly the same way.

For the record, cap-n-trade will work! Kidding. Put down your pencils. It's retarded and doesn't solve anything. We need more nuculer power.
  • butt's not wrong
I agree with DRIP, and agree even more with the need for immediate action, but we have a preliminary (and MAJOR) step ahead of us. Until we can shut down or at least diminish the liberal MSM, we have no recourse and there will be no solution. You can forget about anything meaningful coming out of the 2010 and 2012 elections. The masses will vote exactly as the media intends them to vote. Think about the millions upon millions who are brainwashed every day by the farce that is the "news". The bias, the leading, the subtle innuendo, the slant, the calculated vocabulary to uneducated minds is extremely powerful.
It's a small and maybe futile start, but cancel your newspaper subscriptions with the same spirit you had with the tea parties. Those were demonstrations - canceling newspaper and news magazine subs is action, and action that on a grand scale would not be scoffed at as quickly as the TP's were. I'd love nothing more than to see this happen, and am positive it would be very dramatic and meaningful. Other than this small step, we need to figure out how to stop the malicious indoctrination of the masses who otherwise might rally for and be on the side of common sense one of these days, if it's not too late.
  • States have the answer
If each of them keeps declaring their soverignty, and telling the Fed they don't have rights in their business, get the Federal Reserve audited (HR1207), we MIGHT stand a chance.

If the Federal Government keeps buying out states (like California) then eventually what is to stop them from doing away with states all together. Just one big entity, no state or sales taxes, just one big chunk coming out of our checks. Government checks....
  • C(r)ap and T(i)rade
I used to be of the opinion that the donks were trying to destroy the country incrementally. It's apparent that they have thrown caution to the wind and they are going for broke--literally.

An interesting aside: the financial derivatives market is frothing at the mouth, waiting to jump into this fiasco. That will be the next financial meltdown, courtesy of the demo-crook party.
  • @Butt
I'm with you. I've already told my wife that when it comes to go to Washington and stand for America that I WILL be taking a few days off from work to go stand with my fellow brothers to fight the good fight.
  • cap and TRADER
the news keeps getting worse, or if you waz edukated by the gubmint WORSER. I still don't have the answer to our gubmint interference except for another revolution.

sounds drastic right? well how about you coming up with a solution.

DRIP don't return incumbent politicians is a good idea but takes too long! we need action soon, kinda like the bailout. NOW NOW NOW.

    am I wrong
  • Some Don't Remember or know
We would have not needed all of this oil from other countries if it were not for the DEMs tring to put a SUPER TAX (what it was called at the time) on every gallon of oil pumed domesticlly. Overnight the oil companies simply cap the wells. Thus we started down the road of import oils.

AND BEFORE EITHER OF YOU TRY IT (STAN & COPY) I was there and lost my job with alot of others.

LIBS are just stuck on stupid!
Libs screamed about things Bush did and Obama does the same thing and they try to justify it. Alot of us howled at Bush for TARP and now Obama does it (making BUSH look like a penny pincher) and suddenly its OK!

Have you notice that the worse it gets the more people like Copy and Hugo & Stan try to justify things? Obama is doing the things that he and members of congress villified to get elected, but because (and only because) he is a Liberal, now its oK!

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • Scam
Everyone is focusing on Cap and Trade on business. Just wait till the gov't gets the great idea to apply it to your home. Remember that "smartmeter" Obama had installed in the White House? Just wait until a federal law is passed to mandate all residences have a "smartmeter".

The gov't will be setting "reasonable" rates for you to heat/cool your home, use your electronics, heat the water, etc. And when you go over, you either pay out the wazoo, or the "smartmeter" will just shut off the breaker for you.

Also Verno is right about Big Al. My cousin is a land-lease man in TX. All the oil guys out there are investing in this cap and trade b/c they realize there is a ton of money to be made in trading nothing. He told me they said the American people have bought into it, even though I haven't, but I'm sure going to make money off it!
  • "Slap and trade"
It's sad but THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON'T CARE NEAL! They just want to make sure they voted in the finals for American Idol. You are "pissing up a flag poll!!!"
  • Ethanol
right you are Tom. Hydrogen is also a deficit based fuel. It ALL takes fossil fuels in some form (HEAT), at some stage, to produce - and you end up with less in the right half of the equation than the left. Trying to produce ethanol with only ethanol would instantly result in a decaying curve to zero as you progressively produce less heat (ENERGY) than you use in production. Same with H2. No, it doesn't take a math major to figure it out, but remember that we are surrounded by people who have no concept of trillion to billion to million. Think they'll pay attention to scientific equations and the Law of Conservation of Energy as it impacts perpetual motion? (because that's what ethanol produced only from ethanol or H2 produced from only H2 essentially is - perpetual motion (otherwise known as liberal "free energy" motion.
  • Verno
You are right, OwlGore stands to make a lot of money. AND Immelt/GE is already constructing his battery factory to use with those, what did shuttin down call them?, propeller beanies.

    We are being had folks.
  • I hate Owlgore
    When's the revolution?
  • Recurring Cycle
The key word is "recurring". Since it is cyclical, before long there will be a "global cooling crisis" followed by another warming crisis and so on. They've got a sure thing going here.
  • Cap and Trade provides the incentive
Cap and trade provides the incentive for business to reduce their pollution output. As a business, if you find ways to produce less pollutants, you do not need as many credits. While some of these cost may be passed down to the consumers, the companies that find ways to limit greenhouse emissions will be in a better competitive position than peers who continue to pollute.
  • Cap and Trade
And most telling is that the use of this system does not necessarily improvement any enviornmental emissions, correct?
  • Ethanol
You could get rid of ethanol by mandating that it be produced only by energy derrived by ethanol. Do not under any circumstances use any oil (gas) to produce ethanol. It wouldn't be long before ethonol proponents would realize that it takes more energy to produce the stuff than you get out of it. It takes 1.29 gallons of gasoline to produce the energy equivelant of 1 gallon of gasoline in ethonol. It doesn't take a math major to figure it out.
  • Cap and Trade exchange
I read somewhere on the internet (I know you can't believe everything you read!) that AlGore was already invested in the regulatory board that will be in charge of trading the credits for global warming. The board has supposidly been set up in Chicago fashioned after the Chicago Stock market. He stands to make billions from the trading of these credits as some companies don't use all their credits in manufacturing and will sell them to companies that need more than they were allotted. Seems like the old addage is true, Follow the Money!
  • I think Heritage is underestimating the cost of cap and trade.
With our technology curve the true costs of cap and trade are incalculable, as are the costs to the environment of leaping to technologies that are neither ready nor capable of taking the load. No one really understands how far the consequences will go and how bad they will be for the economy and environment. It looks like we are about to find out.

The stupidity of using food for fuel even if you couldn’t trade it at a much higher return for more efficient fuel, speaks for itself.
  • Re-Branding
Lisa Jackson, EPA Administrator, recently stated that the administration prefers the term "market based transition" to cleaner fuels over "Cap and Trade." I guess Cap and Trade wasn't polling very well. More Change we can believe in...
  • JamesJ
Good one! Yep, drill here, keep it here, say bye to the Arabs and all the issues over there. Then if you want to work on alternative sources of energy, fine. We'll have cheap oil, while the research and work involved in rolling out something new is going on.

    Problem solved!
  • How?
How do the idiot libtards not see through this scam?? They are soooo easily fooled!! But judging by the comments the likes of Copy, Stan G, and company make, I am really not suprised.
  • low-income Americans
you say: "I will guarantee you, folks, that the government already has plans to make sure that low-income Americans will not pay a dime in increased energy costs. This will be just another notch on the entitlement belt."

that's right. you will pay for it. because you've got your jobs, your 401k, your boys and girls college funds. its time for one of those revolutions that thomas jefferson talked about. but i can't get involved, i got too much to lose.
we've got a bunch of tories in america

you better watch out. i'm considered a terrorist for writing the word "revolution" :O)
  • No Ethanol
Dan, what's the brand? I'd like to look for it in Chas SC.
  • Reducing pollution
Reducing pollution is not a bad thing. Of course since this is a stupid idea, libs are only going to remember that conservatives didn't like it so that must mean we are FOR pumping as much crap out into the air as we can.

No, it doesn't. But swapping credits is not going to reduce anything, it just moves it. And in so doing, it also increases the rates DRASTICALLY.

But we can't even get the scientists to agree on what is harmful to our environment so why are we jumping the gun before even getting a consensus?

Just to make the left feel all warm and fuzzy. And like Ivan said, their new government needs the illegal funds.
  • Whacks-man
If I weren't embroiled in a fight-to-the-death battle with my ex, I'd give this more serious consideration. As it stands, the idea that Waxman is trying to shoehorn a piece of legislation through without any chance for debate tells me it has to be bad news. Isn't it ironic that today, with low temps in the mid 40's, we are talking about science which does not have empirical data to back it up and no concensus among the folks who do know something about the climate( no, not Al Gore...)? But let's pass it anyway and line up with the Democrats in Congress and in unison(between choruses of "We are the World"...)chant 'nanny nanny boo boo...' Poor Neal would have a fit, dontcha think? Great posts in here today, I wish I were as inspired. Sorry, this is all I've got.
  • Neal supporting Arab oil
Maybe, maybe not. I do know for a fact he supports off-shore drilling, oil-shale, and ANWR.
I also think we will never solve our energy problems with corn, water, chicken sh*t, propeller beanies, or any other hare-brained cockeyed lame-ass idea being cranked out by the loonies.
  • Oil Imports
Stan Gable is too brainwashed by the liberals (or by being a liberal?) to know that the top two suppliers of oil to the U.S. are Canada and Mexico...oops! Obama said you weren't supposed to know that. The problem is, Stan, we're spending a lot more now for technologies that aren't panning out and don't satisfy demand. How is that going to save a lot in the future? How did ethanol work out? Why don't we spend some money to drill here, and drill now instead?

Or, why don't you just get informed on some issues?
  • Comedy Central is calling
First of all. Thank you, Commoner, I was afraid they were going to put a meter on my throat.

Second. Stan. It would seem that the current administration and the democrat party supports Arab oil. They are the ones standing in the way of domestic production.

We are an oil based economy. You are far more dependant on oil than you realise. Transitioning to a new energy base cannot happen without USING the current system. The more expensive oil gets, the more expensive wind, solar and others will get.

Personally, I'm hoping to get my PV and wind up before Crap and Raid goes into play. Then I'll clean up selling it back until the Gov't decides to take it from me.

    Don BW
  • Tax and Tax
Gee Stan, maybe we could drill here? Never underestimate the stupidity of the average liberal
  • Global Warming
I've never bought into the Global Warming frenzy that has swept across the nation and the world, nor do I buy into the "Climate Change" crap that is being spewed out by the ignoranuses out there. If there is global warming how come it's mid-May and I had frost on my lawn this morning? I live in Southwest Ohio and it's still cold (for May). I remember growing up in Indiana and hearing the "scientists" talking about the imminence of another ice age - this was in the mid-70s. WTF?! I also don't buy into how this is all the fault of the US. Really? We're the only ones driving cars? If you go to some of these countries overseas they don't even have catallitic (sp?) converters on their vehicles so don't tell me that the US does all the polluting. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for keeping things as clean as possible but not because I'm afraid we're melting the polar ice caps. And please will someone put a gag on Joy Behar and MAKE HER SHUT UP?! She actually goes on Larry King and spouts out that ALL of the scientists in this world agree on global warming. Since when is she an authority on anything other than being a bitchy old broad? Sorry, just had to get all this off my chest.
  • The Beauty of the Scam
Of course the real contribution by a specific taxpayer to the overall pollution problem cannot be measured with certainty. The bill for compliance to these ethereal standards will most definitely be certain. This is just another wealth extraction tool- any benefit to the environment will be by accident.
  • Wow
I didnt know Neal supported Arab oil. I am shocked. I personally wouldnt mind spending more now to save a lot more in the future. But that is just my opinion. I guess republicans love giving money to arabs(and holding hands and taking long walks with them too)
  • Cap and Trade
Cap and trade is trying to regulate the emmissions that are not natural...such as greenhouse gas emissions from giant smoke stacks.
  • The US will be a third world country
Look folks, the so-called third world countries are not falling for that cap-and-trade and other pseudo-environmentalist left wing crap. They are out there looking for petroleum, buying up hard commodities, and cutting taxes (including corporate taxes).
Meanwhile the US under Obamanomics, is preventing the search for cheaper energy, (sorry uber-green energy is too expensive and will be for a long time), not buying up commodities for their manufacturing base, and is raising taxes. Furthermore, the US is printing a bunch of fiat currency.

The point of this is simple. The US is now behaving like the Banana Republic third world countries via Obamanomics and the Brazils, China, Dominican Republics out there are starting to look like what the US once was at the 20th century when the US was the up and coming power.

This sure looks like "Change we can believe in."
  • No Ethanol
There's a gas station here is Greenville,SC that advertises that their gas is 100% gas. They make a fortune there. I wonder why more gas stations aren't doing that.
  • Atlanta Water
Obama said in a round table discussion with my company's president and CEO (Dan Fulton) that Atlanta's water shortage was a result of the changing climate....
Yeah, it has nothing to do with all the people crammed into the area. Last summer the lakes were completely dry and condos were still being built on every overcrowded street. Hmmm... that makes sense. This sounds like the sound scientific reasoning that came up with "global warming" in the first place.
  • Cap-and-Trade? More like Crap-and-Raid
Why should the current administration get all the fun in re-branding.

One well placed Freudian slip can do more damage than a slew of writers.
  • Government Market
GREAT, who's going to regulate this version of wall street?

This, President Obama, is the STUPIDEST idea to come out of your administration.

    So far....
  • Cap-N-Trade = Governmental Control
This whole scheme clearly shows that the statists do not care about people, and they do not care about the environment (they aren't smart enough to understand it). They care about increasing government power. Corporations have become too powerful (in their minds) and the way to level the playing field is to seize control of the energy markets and get revenue from those evil corporations at the same time.
The statists have laid bare their ambitions, clearly visible to those who see through the smokescreen.
November 2010 can't come soon enough, if we can do anything at that time to end this insanity.
  • This is all part...
of the bigger picture. Neal is right that this is a scam, but he doesn't realize what all the extra tax money is going to be used on. It is to be used to sustain the new central economy/government that will soon take hold. Once all the dummies invest because the media is telling them everything is turning around then they will crash the markets and people will lose everything.
  • Cap and Trade and Steal and GET REPLACED
Let these phonies do their worst. They're digging their own political graves. America is currently not paying attention like they will be once these thieving liars start tugging at their wallets to the degree that we're expecting. I was only a child in 1979, but I know that America WOKE UP and got rid of THAT jackass . . . it will happen again.
  • Ethanol
Yeah, that 10% ethanol per gallon has reduced my fuel mileage by about the same 10%. Now that's really going to make gasoline go further and the corn to be cheaper......idiots
