Are you buying Barack Obama's (expensive) plan for cleaner, more fuel efficient cars? Here's a concept .. why not let the free market decide if it wants more fuel efficient cars? Wait a minute. Government knows best. Almost forgot.

This author says that Obama's proposed mileage standards may kill more Americans at a faster rate than the Iraq War. Dead Americans don't matter to the environmental crowd.

If gas prices stay low, Americans are less likely to buy into Obama's plans for vehicle fuel efficiency.

The House approved an expansion of this Helping Families Save Their Homes Act to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.

Yesterday the Senate overwhelmingly passed the credit card reform bill. People who run up huge credit card balances that they don't pay in full every month deserve to be abused. Stupid behavior should be punished.

Someone has decided to tackle the Flat Tax vs. the Fair Tax.

The Democrats are doing the Hokey-Pokey with this $80 million in funding to close Gitmo. They have now decided to pull the money out of the war spending bill. They know the danger in closing Gitmo - but PrezBO needs to be protected.

Barack Obama doesn't believe that school choice is an option to improve our education system in this country. That's because the unions don't like the idea. By the way, he exercised school choice in deciding where to send his kids.

On to some of the more important things in Washington ... the Pentagon said that it no longer includes a Bible quote on the cover page of daily intelligence briefings for the Obama administration.

A Muslim leader says that 'climate change' is the terrorist America should be fighting. Yeah .. climate change may walk into a crowded theatre wearing a bomb any time now.

Joe Biden is at it again .. claiming that this economic stimulus has created 150,000 jobs, which is entirely untrue.

Which politician tried to buy votes by handing out checks and free vegetables to the poor?

How did the Louisiana legislature manage to override Gov. Bobby Jindal's rejection of $98 million in federal stimulus dollars? Easy ... someone relied on the laziness of government officials.

A study out of Australia shows that the obesity epidemic in the US is due solely to increased food intake. Gee ... how did they figure that out?

Take a peek at the coversheets of the Worldwide Intellegence Updates to the Oval Office given to President Bush during the first days of the Iraq War.

What others are saying

  • Tim
Keep in mind everyone that when you have someone, like Tim, who is in the "blame America first" mentallity, there is no argument. He's off the reservation. His statement about how "everyone is in bed with each other here in the states" clearly shows just how much of a fool he really is. He's living under the Obama thought process that Europe is perfect and no one is in bed together over there. They are all completely ethical and don't do anything wrong in Europe according to the "Tims" of the world.
  • God......and war.
"There are no atheists in foxholes."

Those who have been in the crucible of war can relate. Those who haven't, (such as our president), probably can't.

It not what's on the coversheet that matters, it's what inside the soldier.

For anyone who will risk the ultimate sacrifice for their country, they can pray if they want,

    and all that they want,

    to whomever they choose.

    I will not deny them.
  • Cleaner more fuel efficient cars
The automakers are already at it..see the 2012 Pelosi GTxi SS/RT Sport Edition
    at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAqPMJFaEdY
  • STILL with the "Fair" tax
I prefer a consumption tax to an income tax, but the "Fair" tax as proposed is a lousy idea, as (1) the rate is too high & cedes too much power to the Federal government, & (2) assets already taxed at the corporate & individual levels would be subject to taxation yet again.

I am opposed to any & every form of income tax. Repeal the 16th Amendment.

The best option I see is to (1) scale back Federal government on a grand scale, & (2) revert to taxes levied evenly on imports.

I know that my position is in "Never Never Land", but as it stands, so is the "Fair" tax.

BTW--I'm still waiting for one of you to explain to me how anyone could think that the "Fair" tax rate is 22 or 23 percent. Refer to the top of the May 6 thread, "Another Uninformed Fair Tax Critic" before you launch into the "inclusive/exclusive" spiel.
  • stock up now...
Pretty soon, Obama will be telling us what types of ammo and canned goods to stockpile.
  • Bible Quotes
And the problem with those quotes on the briefing papers is what exactly?

It's not from Congress, and doesn't look like it's passing any sort of law establishing a religion. So it's not violating the law or constitution.

    So what?
  • Obama's gas savings
Obama makes a lot of assumptions in his gas savings plan. He is assuming it will only cost $1300 more than it would without the increase standards. He is assuming that you will be getting 10 miles per gallon better fuel efficiency on average over the vehicle life. He assumes you will pay cash for the vehicle and acrue no interest. He is assuming that you will be paying between $2.50 and $3 per gallon of gasoline on average per year.

The only one he can control is the last one and you can bet that this Democrat congress and White House will issue a major increase in gas taxes to ensure you are paying this amount regardless.

What he can't control is whether you will get 10 miles per gallon better mileage or that it will only cost $1300 extra per vehicle upfront. Let's say you get 26 miles per gallon now and you improve that to 31. It would take 5.5 years to make up the $1300 difference. If you take out a loan on the vehicle at 6% it will take closer to 4 years to pay off the difference. I can go on and on, but the fact is this will take much longer in all likely hood that he claims.
  • A twisted sense of humor is a requirement these days.
Gubment Motors will work as ‘well’ here as it has everywhere else it’s been tried.

Dead Americans DO matter to environmentalists They blame Americans for most of the world’s pollution, so a dead American is ‘worth’ more to them in reducing man’s footprint on the environment than anyone else.

Don’t ‘worry’ gas prices will go through the roof and stay (once ‘cap and trade’ starts) there with hussein and the dp’s energy plan.

Love the “Hokey Pokey” blurb. I’m stuck trying to make, “Playing politics with national security is what it’s all about” rhyme.

School choice isn’t an option for the teacher’s unions. That is why parents who want choice must be willing and able to pay twice for their child’s education. The msm will always let the dp skate for their blatant hypocrisy on this.

What will they be quoting now, “The Communist Manifesto,” “Rules for Radicals,” “Mao’s Little Red Book?” I wouldn’t be shocked if quotes from “Dreams of My Muslim Father,” “The Audacity of Hope,” or his own quotes supplanted The Bible either. I can’t wait ‘til they bring back the “White House Condom Tree,” tradition.

That ‘muslim leader,’ in VA said lots of other absurd things in that article. Nothing surprising though, he supports cop killers, convicted terrorists, and radical imams.

Biden must have meant 150,000 government jobs, but left out it cost millions of private sector jobs to ‘create’ them.

Obesity cause is double sided. A person can eat all they want and never gain a pound as long as they burn it off. A person can forgo exercise as long as they eat only enough to keep their bodily functions going (which isn’t healthy, but we are talking about fat.).

I was hoping those NSB cover sheets would feature a “dead terrorist of the day,” featuring the highest ranking terrorist or bathist killed in the last 24 hours.
  • Landmine
Landmine if you read "The 5000 Year leap" by Skousen with an open mind it will shed a new light on our founding. It is a well researched book with many quotes from the writings of our founders. It explains the genius of the American constitution. Everyone should read this book. You may or may not agree, but you will come away with the fundamental realization that the USA as it now stands is broken. Our founders would not recognize us
  • GITMO and the Obozo flip-flop
This is profound because all of the op-ed pieces, all of the chest-thumbing, podium-pounding campaign speeches about closing GITMO, the vicious slander perpetrated by the leftwing MSM has turned out to be.........nothing more than empty campaign rhetoric. Not to mention that Bush/Cheney are now vindicated by a court ruling. (Stan Gable, this is a pre-emptive shut up: I can't stand your infantile argumentation, you clearly suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome).

    Hypocrisy, thy name is Obama.

    The anti-American left is exposed.
  • @NCchik
I am not sure where we are disagreeing.

It is well accepted that the founding fathers believed in a greater power than their own. They just also made an effort to keep our government secular which was a very wise decision.

They certainly did not found this as a Christian nation.
  • God in battle
Most men pray to God when their life is on line in battle. We are not Crusaders, but Christian soldiers. Men and women who are protecting non-Christian people. But isn't that Christ like. Now we must follow a president that is more like Steve Urkel than John Wayne. God protect each of our sons and daughters; more from our own government than the enemy. We can fight them.
  • Comment to Landmine
No where is religion excluded from government - doesn't the first paragraph in the constitution mention inalienable rights? Our founding fathers certainly recognized a greater power than their own. What they sought to prevent was the government's inclusion (or mandating)of one belief - that would include your reference to the Taliban for example, or global warming.
  • Bible quotes
Concerning the Bible quotes on the intel. breifs; I'm not religious, but the large majority of our soldiers fighting for us are christians. When I hear them complaining, I'll pay more attention.
  • FairTax vs Flat Tax
Dave, I was thinking the same thing about the prebate. Also he failed to mention that the removal to the income tax will remove all embedded taxes. That's another huge part of the FairTax.

Although, I am glad he wrote more on the FairTax than the Flat Tax. Now if we can get Micheal Steele to start talking about it.

I wonder if there is any chance that Neal can get him on the air to talk about it.
  • @Tim
I am not sure why the treaty with Tripoli doesn't totally close down this debate.

What part of the statement that "the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion" is so hard to comprehend.
    http://www.ffrf.org/nontracts/xian.php

I try to read books that both support and challenge my positions so I will add the book you suggested to the list and read it.
  • Concerning Americans, gas prices, and Obama's regulations.
I am absolutely stumped, baffled, flabbergasted. Please, if anybody has the answer I would like to know. Why are Americans SO committed to being broke? Why must they spend every cent they have, don't have, anything they can get their hands on, weather they need the product or not?
  • Jindal and ARRA
Known fact in retail - the best way to pass a bad check is late in the afternoon, right before closing when the employees are ready to go home - now almost obsolete since no one writes checks but still viable when passing bills in the House.
  • A coffin
with wheels is what we all will drive to the bread line.
  • @ ChristyACB
    Christy,
those were Bush's coversheets, put together by Don Rumsfeld. Obama had nothing to do with them. Cute, yes, but it is in terrible taste to position our soldiers as Christian Crusaders in the Middle East. ....remember how well the last Crusades went over in that area of the world?
  • STOP ... for a second and consider
Exactly where in our US Constitution does it say your FEDERAL GOVERNMENT can tell what fuel mileage is permissable?

I think this is a state thing...

Getting really sick of this ..
  • Fuel efficient cars
Neal is right. The free market will sell fuel efficient cars when there is a high enough demand for them. If gas prices go back up ($3-$4/gal) then people will be more inclined to buy them.

Then again, that exact reason could be why so many democrats don't want to open up new drilling sites in the US.
  • Landmine you are wrong
Read the 5000 year leap and see how the founders really incorporated religion into our founding
  • Obama Auto Plan
I can't remember the last time I was this mad about anything. The plan is idiotic. I'm currently driving a Corolla, which already gets 35-38 MPG. I didn't need the government to tell me what car I wanted, I researched and found it on my own. I really want an Audi R8, but I can't afford it right now. The problem with the R8 is that it gets like 8MPG! I don't want the government telling me I can't buy a high powered gas gusler.

If they really wanted to change the market the government already had the tools. All they needed to do was issue an import tax on oil. Domestic oil could still be tax free. This would make the greenies happy, it would also keep us from supporting Russia and Saudi Arabia. It would do so much more for their cause as well as keeping more money in the US. Then I would still be free to buy my 8mpg sports car, I'd just have to pay more for the fuel.

Their was a simple solution that didn't take away my liberty and freedom. Instead this American Dictator decided he know how best to ruin the economy. What a jerk.
  • Credit card whining
Could someone explain exactly what the problem has been? If you're too stupid to have read your cardholder agreement, and all the little sheets of changes that come with your monthly bill, well Boo-friggity-hoo on you if you're "surprised" when charges change! Don't like the terms, get rid of the card. Or how about only charging what you can pay off every month? Doesn't matter what the interest rates are then, now does it? Credit cards have been a source of income to me for many years, just get a cash-back type card and pay it off every month. Simple. Otherwise, well let me get my electron microscope so I can find a violin tiny enough...
  • Sick Child
This isn't on the sight, but was mentioned on the show. The mother in hiding to prevent her kid from getting chemo? Prison for the rest of her life. The religious (Cult) leader? Prison for the rest of his life. Every adult involved that did not intervene? Prison for the rest of their lives. Religious freedom DOES NOT extend to homicide.
  • Bible quotes...
Agree that in that context, it's of questionable appropriateness. However... I'd LOVE to get a calendar or something with those pics & the Bible quotes on it! If you discount the propriety aspect, those quote/pic combos were REALLY well done.
  • ChristyACB
To be fair, I've met plenty of people who's religion IS government.
  • Fair vs. Flat
The author definitely needs to read up on the Fair Tax some more. The real question is: How do we get from the point we are now to the place where either or both of these is up for serious consideration by the congress?
"When I am made dictator" the Flat Tax will be the transition plan while the Fair Tax awaits implementation.
  • Aussie Weight study of U.S. Citizens
Imagine what we'd look if we ate Vegemite, too. Oz is experiencing their own obesity explosion, but by what I've read, they haven't had the funds to study why thoroughly. Maybe they could've used the funds for this study on that?
  • Smaller Cars
Here's the deal. The government is or will be running GM and Chrysler. The government says they have to make smaller cars and hybrids that no one wants right now due to low gas prices. There my friends lies the rub. If you remember not long ago this administration said gas prices need to be much higher so Americans will stop wasting gas and buying SUV's. Mark my words, they will create a market for the cars built by the companies they run by taxing gas and the gas companies. Can you say windfall profits tax? How do you think that cost will be past on? Only a minor issue of using your power to control the markets.
  • Punishing 'deadbeats'
"Deadbeats" is what the credit card industry calls people like me who pay their bills on time and in full every month. It infuriates me that I will be punished by annual fees and my account will be charged interest from the time I swipe my card. The worst part is that it is almost impossible to survive without credit cards. I would give mine up in a heartbeat. Do you ever hear of laws being passed to protect people that do the right thing? I didn’t think so.
  • Having Buyer's Remorse?
    www.keepthechangestickers.com
  • saddled with defeat and GTMO closing
Look folks, other talk hosts have said that the Democrats will not be saddled with defeat with their being in charge. Even though they have bashed Bush since this thing began.

You know I am surprised that Copyleft hasn't chimed in because the leftist in Congress have backpedaled on funding the closing of GTMO. But then again, when does Copyleft and other leftists point out inconsistencies from the left? We know the Mainstream media does not.
  • Obama's Cleaner, Leaner Auto Plan
not only will current vehicles be outlawed, prices of vehicles will drastically increase, but what reall REALLY amazes me is that the ignorant people who put him and his ilk in office don't comprehend that statement he made reference saving on buying gas!! Less fuel purchased equals less tax revenue for road and highway construction, therefore... tax will be significantly raised to offset the loss, and wait til the folks with total electric vehicles find out that they will have to pay a "users fee" just for owning a vehicle that does use fuel but hey... gotta pay to use the roads Mister/Miss Greenie Weenie. Idgits... the true dummying down of American society has occured.
  • more efficient cars
I agree with the new efficiency standards....and no Neal, the cars will not be any less safer like you foolishly suggested this a.m. on the radio.
We have been stuck on stupid for the longest. Creating new technologies and/or increasing MPG will lessen our need for foreign oil. So what it might cost us an extra $1300 by 2016...6 yrs from now.
Crusing down I-20 at 35-45 MPG + in a mid-size luxury car or full size SUV is what I am talking about!! I guarantee you if full sized SUV's/Trucks got min. 30-35 MPG on the hwy, sales would increase 3 fold and it would lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

Honda and Ford both make an diesel car that gets 60-70 mpg....guess what? They are only sold in europe and not the states. Go figure.... The technology exists folks. Everyone is in bed with each other here in the states. I would think that most Americans (80% plus) would support this measure.
  • Flat Tax vs. Fair Tax
I just read the Flat Tax vs. Fair Tax article. It's clear that the writer doesn't know the details of how the Fair Tax would work (he writes about exemptions, and appears to be unaware of the prebate), but even so, he gives a very positive outlook for consumption taxes in general.
  • checks and free vegetables to the poor
i don't care what the politicians gave to the poor in order to get their votes.
i want to know what the politicians received from the lobbyists in order to sell their votes.
  • 40 mpg vehicles
How is a vehicle that gets 40 mpg going to be able to pull a boat or a camper? Are those industries doomed too.
  • Iranians understand freedom
Consider the wisdom of this statement.

""Attempting to win people's vote through dispensing public assets is a dangerous phenomenon employed for the first time (by Ahmadinejad's government)," said a statement Tuesday by a reformist party called the Islamic Revolution Mujahedeen Organization."

Imagine if we would get government educated Americans to understand this.
  • Biblical cover pages.
I find it amazing that the Pentagon would waste time and ink including quotes from the bible.

Looking to ones religion for support during difficult or trying times is one thing but looking to it for support of military action is quite another.

I know there are fundies out there who incorrectly believe this country was founded on Christianity. But fortunately the founding fathers realized the best way to protect religion is to exclude it from government.
  • The article on Flat vs Fair Tax...
...doesn't mention the Fair Tax prebate, which is central to answering the 'Fair Tax is a regressive tax' criticism. The reader comments on the article show that the readers seem to know about it, but any casual reader would be misled by the substance of the article itself. Still, that is one of the kindest and most balanced descriptions of Fair Tax I've read in a while.
  • Obama and Religious Cover Page
While I generally think Obama is a completely inexperienced politician and overall moron, in the case of religious quotes, specifically Christian ones, being required for cover pages, I applaud him!

First off, requiring Bible quotes means that some poor schmuck is required to find one every day, regardless of his own religious affiliation. It means government paid time is being used to find quotes from a specific religion and it means that it gives governmental backing to one religion over others, even if not explicit, it is clearly implied.

Religion is personal, not governmental...unless you're a fan of the oh, so gentle and successful theocracies out there like, say, the Taliban?
  • It's official: GM is now Gov't Motors
It's official, we now live in a fascist police state where the Federal Government dictates to “private” industry what they can manufacture and sell.

Prez OBOZO has not even produced his birth certificate and we allow him to do this?

Every day I wake up to another communist program.

Pardon me while I go puke.
