What an absolutely incredible column today from George Will. Read this and then call and tell us of the high hopes you have for the American automobile industry.

Today Obama is sending his 2010 budget package to Congress. The headline will be that he is cutting $16 billion from federal programs. They're not cuts. They're just reductions in spending increases. But we are talking about a $3.55 trillion budget.

The White House has changed its tune again ... now it looks like it WILL be releasing images of the NYC photo op. Actually .. one picture. Only one.

What we are currently seeing with Chrysler and GM should show us why government shouldn't have gotten involved in the auto industry to begin with.

Here's an interesting little tidbit ... who was the only Republican Senator to receive campaign donations from the UAW in 2008?

The Washington Post reports that former Bush administration officials are urging the Justice Department to soften an ethics report that criticizing lawyers who gave the OK for the government to use "harsh interrogation tactics."

This sounds about right for our government ... paying government school teachers not to teach.

When the budget gets tight, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declares that it's time to study whether to legalize and tax marijuana for recreational use.

I love this ... House Republicans are trying to figure out ways to handle slobbering Barney Frank.

The Oklahoma legislature has approved legislation claiming Oklahoma's sovereignty.

The governor of Oregon says that we need to scale back consumerism in order to save the environment.

The New York Post has a tip for President Obama: Next time you excoriate tax cheats, try to keep Rep. Charles Rangel's name out of the discussion.

How does the government plan on tracking all of this stimulus spending? Easy ... it is going to make you, the taxpayers, do it. That's because the government won't be able to handle the job of tracking how stimulus money is spent until at least 2010.

Rest easy. A Senate panel is currently looking into the plight of the newspaper industry.

Have you ever heard of a pika? Well it could be the first animal in the contiguous states to get Endangered Species Act protection because of climate change.

When a supermarket wouldn't sell an ambulance driver alcohol because he was wearing his uniform ... the man took matters into his own hands.

In which country do women participate in the "Miss Beautiful Morals" pageant? I'll give you a hint ... think penguins.

What others are saying

  • Handling Barney Frank?
Rubber gloves and lots of hand sanitizer. Icky icky.
  • George Will
Praise BE that George got it right. I'm with him 100% on his idea of the government involvment in the auto industry should be so awful as to never wish to get involved again. BOYCOT CHRYSLER, BOYCOTT GM!!
  • Miss Beautiful Morals
When I was in the Gulf War 91, I drew a cartoon of the 1991 Miss Saudi Arabia pageant. All in burkas, escept the winner of the swimsuit competition was dripping. I showed it to one of our officers, nice gal but not the sharpest dart in the board, and she said "I don't get it. They all look alike!" (Facepalm)
  • VC-25
    Neal,

Could you or your radio station request the Air Force one manifest from the NYC buzz job through the FOIA?
  • OK Sovereignty
I thought this would never get past our fine (guest at Obama's victory party) governor, until I read that this resolution doesn't require his approval. WTG legislature!!

"We’re going to get it done one way or the other,” said the resolutions’ author, Rep. Charles Key, R-Oklahoma City.

"I think our governor is out of step.”

HAS KEY EVER GOT THAT RIGHT! If we secede, we can send Brad Henry to a state with which he's more in step.
  • Hey buss
your eyeballs did pretty good - they only missed the silent "b".
  • Pika on Endangered List
A pika? Isn't that a freakin' Pokemon? See, that's what they get for telling everyone to "catch 'em all." It's not global warming, it's marketing.
  • Ultimately The Govenor of Oregon is right
But not just because of Global Warming. The Consumerist Economy is simply put unsustainable and is a leading factor in the financial mess we see today because if focuses on constant spending of every dime earned and more to keep the economy going.
As far as the ecological impacts, yes they are also in the long term unsustainable. Even if AGW is dead wrong the fact remains that consumerism is consumption and eventually the earth sill run out of something we need.

Of course what is the one law the government could pass which would drive a stake through the heard of Consumerism?

Hmm, that would have to be a law which encourages earning and saving over consumption and we know that the things you tax you discourage. So maybe if we stopped taxing income and savings and started taxing spending and consumption we would discourage consumerism enough to kill it.

Now it seems that I once heard somewhere about a proposed tax plan that did something like this but what was it's name?

Boortz if you really want to get the Fair Tax passed, start selling it on it's environmental benefits, because of all possible modifications to the Tax Code discussed it is the most ecologically friendly. Get the watermelons on your side and it will fly through congress and be law by the end of this year.
  • The AF1 Photo Op
Something fishy is going on. They bought a couple of days to get an official picture for us to see. They obviously didn't really have a real photo op. The truth would probably blow our minds btw. The origin of the official picture should be in question. The picture will be heavily edited and might even be completely fake. I have a good idea what really happened why they had to make such drastic course changes that day. They had no choice, but to fly low. It was just pure coincidence that they were flying over New York. I am just going to say one thing...HAARP. Something was going on in the skys over New York that day. I'll let you guys do your own research.
  • Barney Frank
Ooops. I must be developing dyslexia or something. I read the artical on Barney Frank and the first sentance, to me, read :

"House Republicans have come up with a new plan to deal with Rep. Barney Frank (Dum-Mass.)"
  • George Will Column
I am with George...I will never purchase a vehicle from GM or Chrysler as long as they are involved with the government and the government sees investors as bad people. Screw the government. I will purchase a new Ford, Toyota or Nissan...but my GM days are behind me.
  • VC-25 Overflight of NYC
Pictures would be fine, but how about the passenger manifest of that flight?

I'll be over here NOT holding my breath waiting for THAT document to be made public!
  • legalization
Here is a story that tells what happened 5 years after Portugal legalized personal possession of most drugs. The article is from Time, so trust it if you like. I have not read any further than this.

  • P. McCall
Oh I missed the Georgia one, thanks! I feel so much better about my state.
  • 10th Amendment
Texas, Montana, Georgia [SR 632], and now Oklahoma's legislatures have passed resolutions re-affirming a State's sovereign rights under the the 10th Amendment. Georgia's Senate Resolution quietly passed in April, reaffirmed the constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens according to Jeffersonian principles. In other words if a power is not called out in the Constitution as a federal responsibility - then the responsibility to govern belongs to the State or to the people themselves to govern themselves for the benefit of themselves. Remember, Jefferson was not a federalist. Had the State adopted Adams principles then the State of Georgia would have been in favor a strong federal government.

The 10th Amendment is designed to protect citizens to prevent the federal government from becoming so big it can not govern the citizens or to become obtrusive in our daily lives. The 10th Amendment is a major impediment to the current federal Executive and Legislative branches growing government. State legislatures are recognizing the need to limit federal government to keep from sinking State governments due to the strings the feds place on States.
  • OK
    Congratulations Oklahoma!
  • AF1 photo to be released
If you look really, really close at the plane's passenger windows you might see a row of butt cheeks mooning all of New York!)
  • House Republicans are trying to figure out ways to handle slobbering Barney Frank.
How about getting him a dribble bucket?
  • Oklahoma!
    YES!!!

This needs to happen on a MASS scale! The states need to tell the Feds to back off!

    Way to go OK!
