Jack Kemp passed away over the weekend. A true American patriot.

The World Health Organization is set to declare the swine flu, Mexican flu, whatever you want to call it ... anyway, it is set to declare it a pandemic.

This is a great list of the things you don't read about Barack Obama in the lamestream media.

You have GOT to be kidding me.... Janet Napolitano as a possible Supreme Court Justice?

According to environmentalists, one of the biggest problems with global warming is the term "global warming." That would be because there is no global warming. Looks like they need a new name for their project to control the world's economies.

If you want a good laugh read this story: What Finland can teach America about true luxury. We greedy American capitalists just can't enjoy life!

My comments about the fajita flu made it into an Associated Press story. As you can imagine, they weren't all that impressed with my creativity.

Guess who has a whopping 71% approval rating? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

There is a lot of speculation that Obama's Supreme Court nominee will be from Chicago. Here are some of the possible nominees.

Is Obama using 'code' words to describe his desire for an activist Supreme Court Justice? Senator Orrin Hatch seems to think so.

Now that the UAW is the majority shareholder of Chrysler, we will see how it does running a business.

Iran lambasted Obama for his first one hundred days in office and demanded to see his "change."

This article should scare the tar out of you: Obama revelling in U.S. power unseen in decades.

Apparently blacks in this country are now more optimistic about race because Obama has survived 100 days in office without being shot at. Seriously. This comes from the Philadelphia Inquirer.

You young wippersnappers should love this.

Here's an excellent column expressing why we can't afford to have the government run our businesses in this country.

Arlen Specter admits that he was motivated to switched parties is because he had a very low chance of winning the Republican primary in 2010. Power wins over principle every time.

The White House has decided to join MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. If you ever want to know what is on the mind of the average American voter, just take a look at the comments section of the White House's MySpace page. God help us.

This seems pretty appropriate ... Obama is going to visit American Idol?

What others are saying

  • Finland
I spent 2 months living and working in Finland, and I spent them in Hamina, not Helsinki.

High taxes…Try 60% on income taxes. Most of the people I worked with came to work in casual clothes because they couldn’t afford anything else. The woman I worked closest with alternated two outfits every week.

Modest Cars…Once again, their taxes are so high that an equivalent Honda Civic in the country costs two to three times more in Finland.

Advanced cell phone technology…Cell phone technology in Europe is a matter of necessity. It is a cheaper alternative to regular phones that were taxed to astronomical levels.

Helsinki feels like a ghost town…I can concur with that. There were relatively few people running around town shopping and eating out. Taking a shot in the dark, I would imagine a 60% tax rate doesn’t leave much money for shopping and eating out.

Depression and alcoholism…Claiming the country has a depression problem only glosses over the fact that Finland has one of the highest male suicide rates in the world.

Military service…I’m sure the writer would also enjoy the fact that when every male turns 18 they HAVE to server a specified time in the military. After that, they can be called to duty at any point in their life.

Overall, Finland is a great place to visit. Unlike the writer, I walked away more grateful that I live in the US.

I think my cousin Ralph will be doing the Argentinian study. He's earned a lot of money doing studies like that, mainly in Latin America. He's with a BIG, prestigious university...and the most liberal person I've ever met.
  • Things you don't read about Obama
Here is a good article on Obama's illegal campaign donations. Want to bet most of them were not returned. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/28/AR2008102803413.html
  • Arlen Spector
Always whiney, now Keystone Sleaze is blaming the GOP for Jack Kemp's death because they didn't support cancer research enough. Conversely, had we had LESS funding for cancer research maybe Arlen wouldn't be here and PA would have had a decent senator. I think Jack would understand and approve.
  • Regarding Jared's Comment
Bravo! Let's dump a few more billion into the intrusive, unconstitutional, counterproductive power-grab that is the federal War on Drugs.

After all, it's staggering success rate more than makes up for the destabilization of Latin America, gang turf wars on our streets, clogged court dockets, overcrowded prisons, and making criminals of tens of millions of otherwise law-abiding citizens.

I mean, God forbid that the billions of dollars spent on this fiasco over the years go to reducing the national debt or in treating those whose recreational drug use got out of hand rather than putting them in prison where they can learn to be real criminals.
  • "This is a great list of the things you don't read about Barack Obama in the lamestream media. "
This was a great opinion piece and I hope every Obamunist (Socialist/ Communist/Fascist ideals meets Obama) supporter out there. Maybe they'll wake up and realize what's happening around them.

I hope the left doesn't catch me from writing this post and throw me in a reeducation camp. That would be doubleplusungood.
  • Global Warming
The British (who are very careful about the words they use) gave up the term "Global Warming" a while back and now use "Climate Change" as the norm. The Climate Changes every day..
  • Things you don't read about the budget.
Not exactly on topic but interesting none the less, this is how some of our money is being spent. Just one of thousands....

"Feds Will Spend $400,000 to Study Drinking and Sex Habits of Homosexuals in Argentina"

  • Betty!!!
That's amazing, do you have a link for that? I'll google too.

Amazing. Arrogant, that's all I can say, arrogant.
  • Derek - Finland Facts?
The summer cottages are one of many vacation spots. Not the only manner of life. They travel more countries, because of their locale, than most Americans as a % of population just because of their locale. Typical houses are built stronger than those in the States as needed due to harsher weather conditions in the winter.

    Quality of life is subjective.

They have a free market (nokia anyone?) with socialized medicine and schooling that's better than the government schools in the U.S. Most of them speak more than 2 languages.

Life expectancy in the U.S. for 2007 is an average of 78.06. For Finland, it's 78.66. Finland wins again.

I'm not saying their system will work here. I'm saying it works there because they don't have the "melting pot" of cultures we have here. That's why both Boortz and the AP author are wrong in their opinions. You have to look at cultures and systems WITHOUT a bias viewpoint if you truely want to understand why something works for one and not the other.

Over all, they are healthier beings though from eating a lot of fish and vegetables (who cares?).
  • Regarding Finland
"Americans in Finland shared similar sentiments. But they weren't naive about the place, and there was a reason they weren't buying the latest toys. "I'll never become rich in Finland," one explained, "the taxes are just too high." But for him it was a trade-off worth making. "Great healthcare, basically free. My kids get one of the best educations in the world, free." By the way, that includes college, free. He had no plans to move back to the States."

Exactly what does this guy think his taxes are paying for? /idiot
  • Things you don't read about Obama
Another thing you don't read about Obama. In his campaign the safeguards were deliberately removed to keep multiple donations from being made on a single credit card under multiple names. Of course it was claimed they would sort this out after the election. Clearly a deliberate calculation to get millions in illegal donations? Why is Obama above the law on this? About time it was investigated. Bet McCain couldn't have gotten away with it. By the way he kept the safeguards.
  • Myspace Potheads
I can't believe (but yet, I'm not surprised) all the potheads on Myspace that are asking Obama and Biden to legalize pot. Must be around 50% of all their comments.

Out of spite, I think I'm going to have to create a Myspace account (gawd Myspace is such a waste of time) and beg the White House to crack down harder on potsmokers and crackheads.
  • Specter's foot in his mouth, again
Perhaps it's his senility but Arlen Specter seems to have forgotten the four years of Carter and the eight years of Clinton. Why wasn't the miracle cancer cure for Kemp discovered then? Truth is there have been amazing advances in fighting cancer since the 70s. My father is going through chemo now and it's working. But researchers didn't wait around for the GOP or the democrats. Specter will fit in just fine with his new party. He apparently doesn't believe anything can be done without big government. Between him, "flu panic" Biden and possibly Franken, we are going to get constant tag team nonsense.
  • Finland
While I'm sure that Finland is a great place to visit, the author of that piece in CSM gave a brilliant example of what Ayn Rand calls the "return of the primitive." I agree that getting back to nature is therapeutic in the short term, but to consciously build a brick wall around the human mind (or let the government build it for you) is a travesty to human kind.

We have the innate ability to shape the environment and you see how it has led us to become longer lived creatures with a quality of life that surpasses Finland's. The idiots who espouse getting back to nature as a permanent objective are usually the ones who are all artsy-fartsy, the typical folks who can't make it in the free market. The irony is that if they truly returned to the primitive, they would have NO TIME to practice their so-called art because they would be too busy trying to survive.
  • Re: I can't wait until they "Strike" against themselves.

I can't wait until they "Strike" against themselves.
  • piano couple
    60 years! Bravo!
My wife and I are approaching 20. September 2 marks the date.
  • things you don't read about Barack Obama
It seems a valid birth certificate could be added to the list.
  • Finland - Luxury
Boortz is off a bit. Fin's have a different point of view of what quality of life is. And if you haven't already, you should plan a trip to Finland and rent one of the secluded cabins north of the city, Helsinki. No plumbing, no electricity... but you don't need it. Because you have candles or a fire at night. A wood burning suana at the lake shore. Sometimes a boat to use for fishing. And a cellar to store perishibles for a short period of time. It's a great time with friends or family. Helsinki is awesome during the summer since the sun comes up around 4am and doesn't go down until midnight. Safest city you will ever find, PERIOD.

The author was correct as well. Great education for free. Free medical. And high taxes that the locals don't seem to mind.

What's missing is the following: The population is over 90% Fin which means you don't have border jumpers trying to get free medical or education. They don't have illegal immigration problems we have in the States. They were about a decade ahead of the US with mobile phones since they started the use of GSM phones that have 100% bars even in the forests. No cell towers. And very low polution.

There are a lot of modest cars on the streets but I did see a red Ferrari pull up to the Iguana while I was eating some off-the-wall pizza.

Different culture. Different priorities. And they ain't the melting pot that the US is.
  • Obama is going to visit American Idol?
He's already on the "Gong Show."
We are ready to "gong him."
  • Global Warming
Environmentalists already have a new name for Global Warming -- "Climate Change". That way, anytime our dynamic climate changes, it's our fault.
  • Hatch is right, Obama is wrong
I'm amazed at the lack of education and awareness by people commenting on these blogs! Someone remarked on the Orrin Hatch article how the Republicans lost last November with the extreme right wing agenda.

Wow! I never knew John McCain was an extreme right winger! I thought he was a moderate along with the other 13 that blocked the nuclear option in congress. I stand corrected.

They also pointed out how the current crisis is really Bush's fault.

"Under Bush the DJA fell from a high of around 14000 to under 8000 when Obama was sworn in. A drop of over 6000."

Yes, and we can thank President Bush for writing the first TARP bailout package while also saying "I have abandoned free market principles to save the free market system" for that. Horrible!

So the solution is...more bailout money and more abandonment of the free market? Uhh...not the way to encourage people to put money INTO the economy!
  • Jack Kemp
Arlen Specter is suggesting Jack Kemp died because of the GOP's health care agenda. This man has no shame.

  • Re: Obama revelling in U.S. power unseen in decades
    From the Reuters article:

“The U.S. president and his Democratic Party have firm control over the White House and Congress and the ability to push through ambitious plans. “

    And:

“On the corporate front, the federal government's pumping of billions of dollars in bailout money into banks and auto companies has given Obama the power to force an overhaul in those industries, a remarkable intervention in capitalist industries by the state. “

    Note the Definition of Statism
    from the Merriam-Webster online Dictionary:

Concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry.
