NO HEALTHCARE FOR ILLEGALS

This one should have been a no-brainer.  Didn't turn out that way. Democrat Senator Max Baucus is making a big deal over the fact that our government's brilliant healthcare reforms will not cover illegal aliens.  So if the government won't cover the healthcare costs of illegal aliens, that leaves the burden entirely on the private sector.  The government already knows that it can't afford this government healthcare scheme, so this doesn't really make a big difference anyway.

So, why the fuss?  Votes.  The longer this idea of government healthcare lingers out there for the public to digest, the more people will begin to realize that we are making a gigantic mistake.  Government is incapable of providing a service better than any private business.  If you think I'm wrong here .. cite an example.  That being the case, why on earth would we want to hand over our own health, not to mention the health of our loved ones, to a bunch of incompetent government bureaucrats?  Democrats know they have to act fast to get this incredible power wrapped up ... fast enough to stay ahead of the wave of public opinion that is turning against a government health care system.

The looters also know how the voters feel about their tax dollars covering for the costs of illegals in this country.  So this is what the Democrats are willing to "give up."  This is their idea of compromise.  "Look, aren't we doing so well?  We are doing exactly what you want .. we aren't going to cover the medical costs for illegal aliens!"  Then you are supposed to get little tingles up your legs and praise the Lord that you have government in your life.

Trust me ... they drop illegals from coverage now to get your support, then add them right back after the legislation is passed to get Hispanic support.  They think you're too stupid to see what they're up to.  With so many Americans, they're exactly right.

create a fast track to citizenship for
    illegals. look it up!

  • Health Care
If Illegals need health care they should get it before they sneak into America! I hope the Health Care Bill also gives the Hospitals In American the Rights to refuse Service to uninsured Illegals!
  • Coverage Back Home
Why wouldn't the illegal aliens get coverage under the wonderful and enlightened government programs of their home countries. After all we all know how much the US health care system s*cks... right?

And for those reading this who went to government schools: It's called sarcasm.
  • criminal aliens
When criminal aliens show up they should be immediately deported.
  • @Subpar
Did you ever stop to think Subpar, that the reason that we have the highest cost and yet the worst "quality" may be because we actually take care of the sickest people no matter what? You ever think that at the other countries they just determine who has the right to live based on their age and actual chance of living?
It's kind of like being the top hospital for a heart transplant in the US, they may have more deaths, but that's because they actually try to save the life of a patient that no one else in the world would touch....
Oh, and I'm sure those other countries don't have a bunch of lawyers advertising in the afternoon during Jerry Springer hours about how "YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A CASH SETTLEMENT" even if you smoke, eat like a freakin pig, drink too much, and yeah, maybe you were driving with a BAC over the limit..but hey, you didn't deserve to get that rash from the antibiotics after they spent 13 hours and 175000 dollars saving your life!!!!!
  • Re: Cody & Internet costs
    Cody,
Don't you think that Wilson residents (or maybe NC residents) are subsidizing that cost through taxes?

As you say, this is local and not federal which seems to be the biggest piece of the issue.
  • Healthcare Woes
    Brad:

Yeah, some things need to change.

    1) Get government out of the way!!! All govt involvement does is increase red tape and cost, and decrease quality.

Doctors don't want to spend years of their life to go into a crap system managed by inept beaurocracy. Speaking of which:

    2. Lawsuits. These have GOT to be brought under control. Some are reasonable, but most are ridiculous and do nothing but drive costs up astronomically. How many doctors do we not have because they either decided to forget even getting into the profession, or retired into something else to avoid the immense liability they face?

Thanks to supply and demand: fewer doctors = higher costs.

It all comes down to government screwing it up....and the people want government to do more??? Crazy.
  • Why don't the corrupt-o-crat dimocrats
just come out and say they want to annex Mexico and be done with it?
  • Health Care for Legals only
No social security number= No Discount.
If your spouse is legal then you and your children by your spouse are legal. If neither of your parents are legal and you were born here you shouldn't be legal either.
WE need a system that uses common sense.

The money we save in preventive health care should pay for itself thrice over in the long run.

Let the legal aliens give the illigal aliens their health care vouchers if they want. That's as liberal as I'm willing to go.
  • Government vs. Private Industry
There is an idea that if the government were run like a business, we'd be much better off. This is impossible for two reasons: governments don't have a profit motive (i.e., they don't have to compete for their income -- they can simply take it), and they aren't spending their own money, so there is no incentive to run efficiently. Indeed, the trend is to just the opposite.
  • sub par health care?
I think you should look under the covers of the data so to speak. We subsidize health care of others. How do you think Canada gets medicine so much cheaper than we do? We also take on all comers so to speak. People come here for health care when their home systems fail them, and we treat them. If the US healthcare system was so bad, why do Canadians cross the border so frequently to obtain care. The statistics you look at should be normalized to take into account these issues before they are compared to the rest of the world. I think people vote with their feet and the rest of the world's feet vote that our system is OK
  • Your misinformed and flat out wrong Brad
People come from all over the world to receive American's quality Health care. Don't believe everything you read or at least verify it. Government intervention would only destroy a system that works.
  • Subpar Healthcare
After reading a recent article in Scientific American, I was surprised to find out that while the US has the highest cost of medical care in the world , it also has some of the worst quality of health numbers of any prosperous nation. So while I am not necessarily in favor of government controlled healthcare, it would be hard to deny that something has to change.
  • Government Healthcare
“Government is incapable of providing a service better than any private business. If you think I'm wrong here .. cite an example.”

I can give you one government program that worked exceptionally well albeit there is no way to test the proposition that it would have been better to leave it in the private sphere. The program was the Manhattan Engineering District or Manhattan Project. However there are two caveats. First, the government was so terrified that the Germans might get an atomic weapon first that they pretty much just assembled the folks with the knowledge to build the bomb and let them decide how to do it. They only insisted on tight security which of course didn’t work entirely because Klaus Fuchs, the Rosenbergs, and others gave the secrets to the Soviet Union. Second, private industry did play a big role. But you are right the government almost always screws up everything it does, i.e. once or twice a century it does something right.
  • Local and State
We have to get the power back from the Federal and leave it with the local and state as we the voters see fit.
  • Govt better than Private sector
    Here's one: Wilson, NC.
They have internet speeds up to 100mbps. Their cheapest plan is $35 (req bundle plan) for 10mbps. In contrast, AT&T DSL at that same price is only 6mbps, and Time Warner's offering of the same speed is $57/month.
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/22/time-warner-and-embarq-cant-compete-with-city-owned-isp-trying/

What I must say is, this service is by local government. I believe local government will always provide better services to the people than state or federal government. The federal government doesn't need to manage much more than diplomacy, war, currency, and interstate commerce.
  • To Mike
I am not a citizen of the US (I am a legal resident) and both my kids were born here and they are US citizens.
I came here on legal basis, I work and pay my fair share of taxes, and I cover their medical insurance via my work... but why are you denying them the right to be US citizens?

Or wait, would you make a concesion because my husband IS an American Citizen (born here)???
  • Government Healthcare
None of this crap is remotely constitutional. The bail-outs, ownership of private business, medicare, social security, socialized medicine...the list goes on and on. We need to get our country back to the founders' original intent. They believed in free-market capitalism and were greatly influenced by Adam Smith and "The Wealth of Nations" that was written around the time of our constitution. They believed in a small federal government with little power. They believed in a sound money system based on something of value and were against fractional banking. They believed in true liberty where people were free to succeed or fail.

One injustice done to the original intent of the constitution was to pass the 17th amendment which allows for the popular election of senators. The original intent was for senators to represent the states and not be influenced by the popular vote. The US House is the peoples' house. The US Senate should be appointed by the state legislatures. If we had the original system, perhaps there would be some sort of common sense backstop to keep the massive spending in check.
  • Forrest...no
While the military might teach discipline well, their spending and cost control still sucks miserably. Police and firefighters are local, not federal government, and not so hot, either. Poor cost control and riddled with corruption.
  • Forrest
Good point. Only thing I can say, those are all entities created long before our government went to hell. I think nothing new is working.
  • Forrest's examples
The sole privilege of being the state, is that you have a monopoly on the the legitimate use of force. Which means that almost every one of your examples (excluding firemen) are invalid. As part of the social contract we enter into with our government means that we don't privately build armed forces.

And as for blackwater vs. Marines. I'm a firm believer in the U.S. Armed forces, but if it came down to it, blackwater could get the job done sooner, more efficiently, and for much less money than the marines. The only advantage the marines have is that a state backs them, which leads to added protection in the realm of international law.

With police, again, one of the things we concede to the state is legitimate use of force. This includes a Police force to enforce law. Rent-a-cop's are by no means an alternative to the Police, as their goal is cheap, very cheap, private enforcement of security. They're hired mainly to call the police.

As for firefighters, they are another legal monopoly. You build a fire station, buy the truck, hire and train the fighters; then start selling fire protection, see how long the state will let you stay in business.
  • Health Care
There shouldn't be any.........illegal is illegal.
  • Health Care
There is an add running in the New York area that asks the question; "Why would you want a health care system with the efficiency of the Postal System, and the compassion of the I.R.S?"
  • I've got some examples...
"Government is incapable of providing a service better than any private business. If you think I'm wrong here .. cite an example."

    alrighty, here goes..

    Police vs. rent-a-cop Wackenhut
    Marines vs. Blackwater
    Firefighters vs. no one
    Air force vs. no one
    Army vs. no one
Blue angels vs. the Redbull stunt plane guy
social security vs. my 401k (just kidding on that one LOL)
  • Government health care
There is an add running in the New York area that asks the question; "Why would you want a health care system with the efficiency of the Postal System, and the compassion of the I.R.S?"
  • I'm tired....
Not providing tax-payer funded health care to illegal aliens SHOULD be a no brainer. On another note:

I'm tired of paying for other people's bad decisions.

Nobody FORCED them into signing mortgage papers without fully reading and understanding them.

Nobody forced them to finance a new car for 6 years they couldn't afford.

Nobody forced them into having unprotected sex and bringing children into this world they can't afford.

Nobody forced them into choosing not to have healthcare. If they are truly destitute, medicare, medicaid, and other government programs are available for adults and children. Nobody forced them to choose a cell phone or satellite/cable tv over healthcare.

Nobody forced them into not studying and dropping out of school.

Nobody forced them to not pursue advanced skills so they could actually get a job that pays more than minimum wage.

Shall I go on? Every one of these things is based on a conscious decision or choice. I've made bad decisions, live with them, work hard to correct them, and I'll definitely make more.

Most (I didn't say ALL) of the "less fortunate" are in their situation because of decisions they made. In a way, they're victims of themselves. So let them figure their own way out.

Sorry for the rant. Just in a mood I guess. I feel better now.
  • Inept Government
Yes, the government is completely inept at running anything well. The evidence of this is overwhelming, and yet, unbelievably, people still clamour for government-provided services!!!

Yes, there are bad companies in the private sector, too.....but there you get a choice. You can choose not to deal with a crappy company, and because of this choice that everyone has, the bad companies go under and the good ones rise up.

This is common sense. It is not rocket science and doesn't require a PhD in economics to understand....so why do libtards have such a hard time with this concept?

The best way to improve healthcare? Get the government OUT OF THE WAY. They are the problem, NOT the solution.
  • The current state of Medicare
From my own experiance I can tell you that they are wanting people to be dependant as long as possible. I lost my job back in Feb of this year and signed up for everything possible. By the middle of March I already had a new job making more money, however, it is now May and we are still reciving benifits from Medicare. Now the deal is my wife was prego when I lost my job which is why I started the blitz of forms. After getting the new job I expected everything to end. It didn't, we are still getting Medicare and will for another 4 months on my Wife and another year on my newest son. Even though my pay falls in the under $100K but over $60k. I shouldn't be getting anything, but they keep extending the benifits. It is crazy, and if they are treating everyone the same no wonder the program is in trouble.
  • Healthcare for Illegals
I think that's why they call it Universal Health Care instead of National. I think they want it free for all.
  • Even Canada doesn't pay for non-residents medical care.
  • Health Care
    Please read carefully.

Let me make it clear. If you are not a social security card carrying citizen, you are not entitled to any health care benefits from this country.
Also, if your parents are not citizens and you are born here that does not make you a citizen, it makes you the nationality of your parents and that is what you are. Canada had to undo its crazy law about being born there meaning instant Canadian Citizenship and if that is good enough for Canada its good enough for us.

That being said, as I said before we need a system where the minimum and the maximum benefit for a citizen from any nationalized health care would be that any citizen could see a doctor/nurse practicioner and get a prescription for a $15 co pay.
You ninnies out there who complain that that isnt enough money apparently don't know that you can see the doc in the box for around $50, make the co-pay $25 if you want but something should be paid by the recipient. If all the government is on the hook for is $25-35 for a visit, that would be so much cheaper than the alternative.
We are going to have a system so lets make it one that costs as little as possible. We could even limit this type of system by issuing health care vouchers (like dtv recievers). This way we could control the actual final cost. Everybody gets two or three per year. They would be transferrable. Neal Boortz could give his away to some poor kid. All the conservatives could get together and throw their vouchers in the pot at some rally for sick kids.
  • Citizenship?
No Boortz has got this one wrong. They are going to give amnesty to the "undocumented" and fast track them to citizenship so they can add 20+ million new voters that will vote Democrat.
  • Lefties love a good conspiracy, here's one that makes sense:
Boortz mentioned the fact that the longer this issue sits around waiting to be forced through the more likely people are to find out the ugly truths about it.

This is a very good point and I think a reason that the swine flu was blown out of proportion--or even manufactured entirely--by the CDC as a means of pushing nationalized healthcare and also as a means of showing off Obama's 'leadership skills' during a crisis.

Fortunately for us, the administration that won an election largely due to the flighty nature of its voters managed to underestimate just how short the public's attention span really is. The swine flu push was not substantial enough and now this issue of healthcare has been left to stagnate.
  • Crap!
They are already getting healthcare in many states, especially california!

This is a definite NO. Why should they?

And Neal, you are using the tag "illegal immigrants", it's "illegal aliens"!!!
  • Medicaid
Isn't the government ALREADY covering the medical expenses of illegal aliens? Isn't that costing the state of California millions every month? Go into ANY emergency room in this country and the waiting area is filled with Hispanics. You can't tell me they're ALL legal immigrants. Hospitals can't turn down emergency patients, so that's where illegals go. They come up from Mexico to have babies in our hospitals. I'm sure Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Cabo san Lucas isn't footing that bill.

So what else is new? These expenses will just come out of a different pot - but still funded by those people who pay taxes. And once again, it is a Democrat who is trying to appeal to a constituency that allegedly isn't allowed to vote (legally). Uh huh. But it's the REPUBLICANS who engage in vote fraud???
  • Of course there is no coverage for illegals...
Under Obama they will no longer be classified as illegals. Infact no one will be. Borders will completely open. Somehow they think that makes us safer.
  • Re: Government is incapable of providing a service better than any private business.
"If you think I'm wrong here .. cite an example."

I have to second that Comment – There aren't any examples, Private industry can always do a better job than a government bureaucracy
