The economy has hit broadcasting just as every other industry out there. Advertising revenue is down and people - damned good people--are being laid off. In one sense it doesn't seem logical. When business is bad you advertise to bring more customers through the door. Our weasels are trying hard to get that message across .... But in some cases the money just isn't there.

Well ... the Democrats have a solution. A solution, that is, if you're not a broadcast company owned by a white male. House Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC) is one of the preeminent race pimps in Congress. Every issue has a racial component for Clyburn. Clyburn has teamed together with Slobbering Barney and tax-cheat Charles Rangel to urge the Treasury Department to start spending some of that bailout money to minority-owned broadcasters.

If you're a broadcasting company owned by a white male you need not apply.

We'll just rely on your comments here. You pretty well know what I might have to say about this.

  • We're doomed
    Gods above. They've combined the Fairness Doctrine and Affirmative Action in one fell swoop. Ten to one, if all of those broadcasters aren't Democrats, the next step is to limit the funding to those who are "supportive in this time of crisis towards our valiant president". I think I'm going to be sick. This is a horrible trend. First, Kerry's been whining about bailing out the newspapers, and now their doing it with radio. Next, CNN will face some financial problems, and they'll have them by the short ones. Admittedly, they're only off by a hair now, but it'll be official. Look at what the President's doing to the other industries he's bailed out. They WILL control the media at this point. If that happens, game over. The Government's gonna hit the Socialist landmarks that Castro, Chavez, and Stalin set for them. If this goes through, game over. Game over, man.

    Did anyone read the article Neal linked to? Allow me to provide a synopsis, not only of the article, but of the completely misguided philosophy of the democrat lunatics:

    WTF?? "the government’s fundamental interest in promoting a diversity of voices"????? Are you f'ing kidding me? How the hell did promoting diversity become one of the government's fundamental interests?
    And oh yeah, how exactly are minority owned radio stations at a disadvantage? Are advertising dollars somehow easier to come by for white businesses and their target audiences? Something tells me that McDonalds advertising dollars haven't exactly plummeted lately.
    Excuse me, I think I'm going to go throw up now...

  • Here we go again
    Yet ANOTHER government supported advantage for blacks. Where will this all stop? Is anyone else other than the people on this site seeing what it happening? I've noticed through the years that in just about every situation where blacks take over, whether it be a company, a city or a country, things go inevitably wrong. I'm not trying to be racist here, I'm just calling it like I see it. Just look at most of the African countries that were once colonies of European nations. Once 'whitey' was forced out and these colonies were granted independence, criminal dictators soon followed. These countries almost always end up in shambles due to the poor leadership and corruption that followed their independence. Or you could look at the Mayor of Detroit that was recently imprisoned or Marion Barry from Washington DC, remember him? It's time that blacks take responsibility for themselves and quit blaming 'honkeys' for all of their failings.

  • Minority BS in other industries
    I go through this in construction all the time. They call it MWBE. In some cases, general contractors call me in to fix a minority business's mess they can't or refuse to fix.

    Maybe if I change my name to "Juan Carlos" or "Roosevelt Washington" I might have a better chance of pulling it off.

    It never fails.It is always the liberals who are so prejudiced and bigoted that race is the primary or most times,only criteria they use for making decisions.Why do liberals hate so much?What is it in a person's life that causes them to grow up hating another group that they don't even know?A person's race should not have any bearing at all on their ability to run a business.

  • Is there a "Reverse Michael Jackson" skin treatment?
    I can get a tan pretty well, but still not enough to 'pass.' I remember the book "Black Like Me" where a reporter had medical treatments to make his skin black and went through Alabama in the '50's or '60s. Apparently he had a rough time of it, but perhaps things have changed by now.

  • It quit being about civil rights a long time ago.
    It's been about privilege since the 80s.

    What many minorities don't seem to realize or care about, is they themselves are undermining the foundation of their own civil rights. It's a disgrace to all the blood sweat and tears of those who secured and enforced those rights, and it makes it likely they won't enjoy those rights for long. They can and probably will console themselves that those evil white people won't have any civil rights either.

    Got an idea. Front Herman Cain a little money so that you have say a 25% stake in one of your syndicate subscribers and then apply for the bucks. Should be interesting.

  • Loss in Advertising Revenue
    Many of these minority radio stations are loosing advertising revenue and that is why they're in trouble. What adds to the irony is that most of their advertisments were from car companies. Guess who cut automobile advertising? Obama. It's an interesting process: 1-Bail out Car companies, 2- Cut their Advertising budget in half, 3- Minority Radio hits finiancial trouble, 4- Bail them out, 5- once government owns some radio stations - regulate all the others out of existence.

    I think we should be concerned.

  • Hard to be outraged anymore
    Minority companies have been getting preferential treatment in the awarding of government contracts since the 70s. One of my partners, who is Hispanic, was key to our company receiving a lucrative contract with the State of Tennessee back in the 80s. Is it fair? No. But I enjoyed the money.
    Before we complain too much about minority preferences and the bailout of minority owned companies, we need to take a hard look at subsidies and corporate welfare in American agriculture. It's monstrous and has been for some time.
    Willie Nelson's Farm Aid never helped the small farmer. Small farmers can't exist today except in a commune. But Willie sure has influenced a bunch of liberal politicians to pump money into a system that has only resulted in making the rich richer.

    So the black stations are going under after Obama takes over the auto industry and reduces the amount they spend on ads. Obama creates the problem and rides to the rescue and takes over the radio industry. Wonderful.

    It's called working the system. You get a good government scam going then you work it to every advantage that you can get. Greed is a great motivator. It really gets me when President Obama talks about ethics and greed. Then his race pimps like Sharpton and Jackson use the race card to satisfy their greed to get every unethical advantage, through the US government, to pad their pockets with tax payer dollars.   • I am a white male who owns a radio station
    and, with my last name, I am often mistaken for a 'minority', even though I cannot trace my ancestry to any 'minority' peoples.

    The good news is that even if the US Government offered assistance, I would flatly turn it down. I will not have ANYONE giving me marching orders, talking points, or 'instructions' on how to run my business. I'll succeed or fail on my own, thank you.

    Of course, many who do own stations are on the same page with the Obamacons, in which case they won't mind... that is, until and unless there is a power shift.
