HOW ABOUT A COMFORTING THOUGHT OF THE DAY

One out of every seven detainees that are freed from Guantanamo Bay ends up returning to terrorism. This according to the Pentagon. But Barack Obama wants to close up shop in Guantanamo Bay. Our government can't figure out what to do with the remaining prisoners. Doesn't all this make you feel so warm and fuzzy?

Change you can believe in? Housing terrorists in the US instead of Gitmo. How's that work for you?

What others are saying

  • Detainees
Just make these losers disappear. They won't be missed.
  • @ Rullivan
I would think you were kidding but the comments by CopyLeft and t-shirt doctor make me think you are correct.
  • how do we know they returned to terrorism?
My question is, how do we know they returned to terrorism? Did we recapture them? Kill them on the field? If we're monitoring them, and know they are participating in terrorist activities, why have we not captured them or those around them? Could it be that we're monitoring them for intelligence reasons, thereby serving our own interests? We need more details before we can reasonably swallow the spin from the right on this....

And as for Gitmo, I say lets put them all on a small island in Alaska, far from anyone who cares. If you're concerned about said island being American soil, we can renounce said island as our territory, and let another country claim them, or sell it to the UN.
  • Closing Gitmo
What if we take the prisoners back to Afghanistan and release them in the middle of a minefield, in the middle of the desert. We leave a few guns near them with 1 bullet each. Then if they pick up the guns we have justification to open fire on them. If they don't pick them up; well good luck getting out of the minefield and that desert.
  • Cheney is an Idiot
Dick Cheney has been on the War Path for the last month trying to stop Obama from shutting down Gitmo. The question is why? Cheney does not care about the American people otherwise he would not have been on board with those whom sent over a thousand of our Soldiers in to a country needlesssly to search for WMD's that do not exist, yell Mission Accomplished and continue to fight. Remind me again when you say Mission Accomplished doesn't that mean the fight is over. Dick Cheney is trying to hide something from the American people. For all of those scared conservatives out there with extremely narrow minded views "ITS OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT." You Neo-Facists need to realize not everyone can be a white christian from Leave it to Beaver Land. I mean a lot has to be said when the best face of the Republican party right now is Rush Limbaugh. Did anyone else remember HE WAS A DROPOUT WHO BARELY GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL.
  • @Chuck
Chuck, there are currently no Grand Theft Auto games available on the Wii.
  • Reply
    Yes, it does include them.

They were likely released due to pressure from groups like the ACLU who defend Muslim terrorists. The people incarcerated at Gitmo were NOT put there for jaywalking or driving with a suspended license.

So what if they were not caught in the act of committing the next great terrorist atrocity? Prevention is a useful tool, one people on the left find highly offensive for some reason (such as preemptive strikes and violence of action).
  • How about a comforting thought
As the detinees are being flown to the US, the AF shoud do what should have been done when they were first captured. As they were blindfolded and chained to palets, it would have been so easy to open the rear cargo door and let the palets slide out over the Atlantic. It could still be done, either a long flight over the Caribbean or wide turn out over the Atlantic.
  • To: Killer
"Copyleft, the proof is that they were captured by our soldiers trying to destroy personnel and materiel. Call them insurgents if you want, they are the enemy no matter what you say."

Really? Does that include the ones that have already been released? Should we go back up and round them up because they "must have done something, or they wouldn't have been there"?
  • Gitmo
Today we heard enhanced interrogation did not make us safer and that Gitmo was a terrorist recruitment tool. Both are myths. Barry show us the memo's that Cheney claims will show that thousands of lives were saved, you say that you will be transparent about our national security. I am betting we never see the memo's. By the way the jihadis were recruiting long before Gitmo.. Barry the the gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn 't coming..
  • Isn't Hussein's Chicago house empty?
    It looked pretty big.
  • re:tshirt doc
Maybe they became terrorists so they could move in with you. They heard you had a rockin' big screen and the latest 'Grand Theft' on your Wii!
  • We are going to let the enemy have our country without a fight at this rate, kinda like Europe
Several things make me sick about this issue.

Copyleft, the proof is that they were captured by our soldiers trying to destroy personnel and materiel. Call them insurgents if you want, they are the enemy no matter what you say. My brother's unit is responsible for the capture of more than 10 of those detainees.

t-shirt doctor, i find it hard to accept that these guys were sitting around in their dirt huts with nothing but love for america until our soldiers arrived. suddenly they are terrorists? it's more deeply-seated and religiously motivated than that.

Lastly, could Obama have picked a worse day to try to close this institution (Gitmo) than a day when 4 would-be Muslim terrorists were caught with plans to attack synagogues n NYC?

It's becoming unreal the way liberals view the world. People who read the Bible and do not support gay marriage are the only dangerous people left on the planet. Which religion calls for the stoning of gay people again..?
  • Wouldn't Surprise Me
I wouldn't be shocked if obama's new master plan for Gitmo was to release 6 out of every 7 detainees. He could easily convince his fan base that he kept that one bad one locked up.
  • terrorists being released into US
Tell you what, they can bring them onto US soil only if they put into the max security prison under the watchful eye of Sheriff Joe in Maricopa AZ and give him free reign to deal with them any way he pleases. A no nonsense guy like him should solve that problem
  • "detainees that are freed"
They will be working for ACORN and running for Prez in '12.
  • places to release the orange suiters
I have an idea of where to release the orange suiters in GTMO. Put them in Illinois, Hawaii, Connecticut, California and Massachusetts. These are the quasi home states of Obama, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Boxer. If Copyleft would leave what state he is from, we should release them to his states as well.

Copyleft is evidently treating this war on terror as criminal justice matter instead of an act of war. He wants to apply US Justice Statues to Acts of War. If he would remember that was the Clinton Strategy in the 1990's and we had the TWA shot down in 1996 and September 11,2001.

This type of naivete will have the US praying to Mecca five times a day and will get people on the left silenced by Shariah law.
  • re: Copyleft
Well...could it be because they were captured on a battlefield with weapons? Maybe those ammo belts and automatic weapons they had stashed under the rug...Maybe their nieghbors noticed strange people coming and going at odd hours...things going 'boom' in the night. I don't think you wind up in Gitmo for chips and giggles. Why don't you go down there and ask them, just having to listen to American liberals would get them confessing to jaywalking or pulling mattress tags to get you out of there.
  • Community service
My Father-in-Law thinks that the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay should be used to perform groundskeeping duties at Camp David.
  • Did Obama lie
I guess Obama told a lie to get votes. Amazing. Politicians lying....who would have thought it? Not your average Obama voter .... or Pelosi supporter. Hmmmm...what's the flavor of the Koolaid for today I wonder.
  • Problems
We've learned before that these numbers need to be taken with a gain of salt. Some of the guys they've counted as "returning" to terrorism weren't terrorists before but became after year of incarceration and mistreatment. Others were detained again, but it wasn't clear that they were engaged in terrorism. A few were even counted as "returning to terrorism" when it turned out they were fighting on our side.

I'll wait until the full report is out and all the names are released before I start screaming blue murder.
  • I have an idea...
Since the Department of Labor seemed to think nobody was deserving of H2B seasonal workers this year, we have some openings for laborers running lawn equipment and planting trees, shrubs, and grass. Or maybe they could just go to Pat Leahy's house in Vermont and fix that drainage problem or plant those Sugar Maples he wanted to add. Clean the pool...walk the dogs?
  • terrorists
well, when the terrorists return home, the US soldiers are still there. of course they'll return to terrorism. i would do the same thing, if foreign troops invaded my country.
they are terrorists because we're over there, interfering with stuff that ain't none of our business.
  • I find it amusing...
...that Congress has yanked the money to finalize Gitmo, and when they did that, PresBO WENT AROUND THEM yet again, and is going to start dragging them up here for trial anyway...saw that on FOX last night...laughed my head off.

This has got to be the daffiest Administration I have seen in my 48 years. That guy (and no, he's not MY president) has to be about the most arrogant thing I've ever seen. He's running neck and neck with Bush. Bush, while an arrogant @$$, at least wasn't daffy.
  • Or...
Or, if you're so certain these detainees are terrorists, why can't you produce enough evidence (or ANY evidence) to actually prove it?
