The federal income taxes for every taxpayer would have to rise by roughly 81% to pay all of the benefits promised by the government under current law.

How do you figure that? Bruce Bartlett will explain.

What others are saying

  • Seignorage
In the short term, we'll end up paying it through seignorage (the inflation tax). As the government prints money to pay it's bills, the value of our dollar will drop and the less we will be able to buy with each dollar. In the long term, the price of goods and services will grow as will our salaries (eventually) which will create an equalizing effect (assuming government doesn't spend anymore... which we all know isn't going to happen). So the process will go as we continue to devalue the dollar.
  • HR1207
Subject line was enough said. Done.
  • Only a matter of time
It should be clear that if taxes when go up to 81% people paying the higher rates will simply stop working rather than have most if not all of their income confiscated and the point of a gun.

The result would simply be like Sh*t rolling down a hill, these rates would befall on lower and lower income brackets until the whole system implodes in on itself.

This is why Statism is always is a complete failure.

People also need to consider that the tax rates of such a draconian system would be antithetical to any type of Liberty.

But Hey!! Enough idiots voted for Fauxbama because they had the stupid idea that would be given other peoples money and free health care, so what does it matter!!
  • 81% of zip is still ZIP!
at least for 40% of tax return filers.
In order to average 81%, taxes on the taxpayers will have to increase by an average of 135%, which, in only 1 year, will put the folks at the very top at the very bottom.

Need to reread the parable about the goose that laid the golden eggs
  • Um, Neal, how do you raise taxes "81%" on someone who pays no taxes? When I do the arithmetic, 81% x zero = zero.
  • Taxes
If taxes have to rise 81% for every tax payer, can we spread the wealth and make sure everyone in the US see's their taxes increase that much? Think you will get a better reaction and more people watching where their tax money is going when everyone over the age of 18 is paying that sort of income tax
  • Just another example of public "education" at work
IF the dumb masses knew this, they would never have voted for this fraud of a president.

But they don't, and they did.

We are one step closer to becoming the banana republic the democrats have long envisioned.
  • Right Ivan
    "That'll be 13 yuan please."
  • And this is why...
the US dollar will soon be worth nothing and it will be replaced.
  • the grace commission report
oh neal. you are misinforming people once again. just like everybody else out there. the income taxes do not see the light of day. ....100 percent of what is collected is absorbed solely by interest on the Federal debt and by Federal Government contributions to transfer payments. In other words, all individual income tax revenues are gone before one nickel is spent on the services which taxpayers expect from their Government.

that was report by PRESIDENT'S PRIVATE SECTOR SURVEY ON COST CONTROL in 1984.

you cay see online at http://www.uhuh.com/taxstuff/gracecom.htm
  • Flashing in the Yearbook
Before the momma jumps on the "lawyer up" bandwagon she might seek advice on the pictures from her Myspace page. Jeanette Jack (mommy) has many pictures of her daughter and friends smoking from a hooka, drinking beer...you know, all the things teenagers love to do and have their mom take pictures.
  • Give Up
If the government starts confiscating 75% of my salary, I say it's time to throw in the towel, have 10 kids and move to the PJs. It's not even worth it anymore.
  • "Unsustainable"
Why do you think Obama has been telling us now after all this spending, that it is unsustainable? He is building us up for a big tax increase!
