texting while driving
i'm a truck driver i see it everyday people think they can do 100 things at once while they are driving, last week i saw a mother change her babies diaper while the little one was laying on the front seat while doing 70 on the interstate, god knows that an accident would have been fatal for that baby, so texting while driving is stupid and his butt hopefully will get fired, but if it's a goverment job he won't slap on the wrist and let the insurance and lawyers fight it out.

Losing their license for at least a year might give them a clue! That should include just talking on the phone also!

I hope more happened to this dork than just losing his job because of this stupid stunt. Should check to see if he has a green card too.

Last week
I was in an accident very similar to that last week. A guy was texting while driving and slammed into the back of my car. Thank God he wasn't driving a bus! I wonder how many cars that bus driver damaged with his inattention. The guy who hit me damaged FOUR. Let's ban cellphone use in a moving car - or at least have a significant financial penalty for doing so. The cops didn't even ASK about the circumstances. Of course, maybe they didn't need to, since the guy never stopped talking and texting the whole time the cops were writing the police report.

People don't realize how dangerous they are until AFTER they cause an accident. Most people I talk to who blah-blah-blah on cellphones while driving thing that younger people have this magical property that, apparently, old fogies like me lack... the ability to give full concentration to two things at the same time.
Yes, "full attention to two things at the same time" is a bit of an oxymoron, but try explaining that to a 20 year old.

What is his penalty? I bet he's still driving the bus, maybe with a stern warning letter in his file. After all, he's a government union employee.
Use Common Sense
We have all been behind the driver weaving and constantly changing their speed (usually driving slowly) only to find out there is a phone involved. Studies have shown that DUI is about as dangerous as phone use while driving.
With all the car related fatalities and injuries due to texting and phoning, more and more states are passing laws prohibiting use while driving. You would think this would be common sense, but the traffic accidents related to phones continue to increase. In Georgia, there have been several car loads of teenagers die only to find out the driver was texting.
Lawyers are winning cases where a driver was talking or texting causing an accident. If the driver was using the phone for business, they go after the employer. In fact, it is standard procedure now to request phone records with traffic accidents. This bus accident will have the city scrambling to cover the liability to the passengers and drivers.
Bad driver
My opinion is that this guy would crash like that sooner or later, regardless of texting. You don't crash like that unless you suck at driving. The texting just expedited the wreck.

dude, unless you are a 13 year old girl and can text without taking the phone out of your pocket or averting your eyes from what you're doing, dont frickin' text while driving! especially on a bus in traffic ...a BUS! YOU'RE CARRYING PASSENGERS!! PASSENGERS THAT DON'T WEAR SEATBELTS! idiot.
