AN INSENSITIVE THOUGHT

Headlines like this that remind me why the Republican Party is in its current state of pathetic existence: "Conservatives Urge Americans to Pray for a Troubled Nation."

No .. I have nothing against prayer. I use it every day. But I'm sorry ... as crazy as it seems there are still people who are looking to the dysfunctional Republican Party for some ideas on how to bring our nation back from the Obama-socialist precipice. Maybe it's just me ... but when I look to the Republican leadership for some sort of a brilliant plan, "Pray for a troubled nation" doesn't quite cut it. Our pastors can handle that suggestion .. we expect more from elected officials.

  • Republicans and Libertarians
If the Libertarians would shut up about legalizing drugs, about "Bush Lied!", and about the death of intellectual property...

If the Republicans would get their noses out of the Bible (and other folks' business), get their arses back into defending the Constitution as it was originally intended, and stop spending money like Democrats...

Then there will be another 'big tent' like Reagan had, that would do unto Obama as was done unto Carter.

And we lived happily ever after.
  • Separation of Church and State
Our founders were never against religion in the public sector. In fact they encouraged it. Read some of the writings of Washington, Jefferson, Franklin...they all advocated prayer. Jefferson believed that the US constitution was divinely inspired. That view today would have him branded as a kook.

The so called separation of church and state was against the foundation of a national religion, not against religion in the public sector. Jefferson was all for religion in the public sector as long as all religions were treated fairly. He is quoted about marveling how 4 denominations could share the county courthouse for services each taking one Sunday per month.

Please read the book "The 5000 Year Leap" by Skousen.
  • Alienating the Bigger Base
I'm Sorry... but I know a lot of Gay conservatives who will not vote for Republicans because of their obession with the religious right. Leave the religion to the church and politics to politicians.
  • In G_d I Trust
    Part 1.

Hey guy’s, why do you think being a Christian is preclusive to intelligent thinking? Remember, the same type of PhD Scientists who “exposed” religion as a myth, have also proudly proclaimed “Man Made Global Climate Change” as a fact.

Remember, were it not for “religion”, the United States of America would not exist. If your belief system prohibits the possibility of one true G_d and Jesus was his “only begotten Son” (John 3:16), then how could you consider asking G_d to “provide guidance” in times such as these as a positive, proactive approach to anything.

I for one KNOW that G_d has provided me with both guidance and assistance throughout my life. I have often ignored his guidance and have suffered the consequences. I see his assistance in my life everyday and gratefully confer all the credit to him. I can personally assure you that prayer does alter the reality of all things in existence. That being said, I also know that I must do my part as well. My part is to provide for my family, stand for the Lords word, follow the commandments, and abide by the laws of this nation. My obligation as an American and a Christian is to oppose passage of laws, which I consider incongruent with the Bible and Constitution, as I know them.

Jesus told us to “love one another, as I have loved you” (John 15:12). I love the disbeliever in a pitiful way, not because I think them ignorant or otherwise. The pitiful love I have for them is because they may never know the comfort of sharing life’s burdens with the creator of all things. They may never look forward to an everlasting life in heaven when their time here is over as I do. That is truly heartbreaking.

    Part 2, to follow.
  • Ron Paul
My primary problem with Ron Paul is his version of what constitutes national security, or more precisely, what doesn’t. He has been a strong opponent to the war in Iraq, saying it has no bearing on our national security and I just can’t agree with that.

We have tried isolationism before, and it has never worked and in today’s ever shrinking world, it will not work. We ignore the rest of the world at our own peril and that doesn’t seem to be something Ron Paul and many Libertarians see.

Something I really get tired of coming from Libertarians is their constant attacks on conservatives by impugning our motivation, just like the democrats do. We went to war for the benefit of the oil companies, Bush Lied, people died, Republicans hate homosexuals because they are all religious nut-cases. Seriously, if conservative adhered to their principles and Libertarians adhere to their principles, there are almost no differences in the two parties.

In fact, if you read the posts in here, conservatives are disgusted with the John McCain version of the Republican party, not the Ronald Reagan version, and until Republican politicians realize this and start actual being conservatives, instead of democrat light, they will continue to diminish in power.
  • Here's a plan:
    - End the Income Tax
    - Repeal the 16th Amendment
    - Abolish the IRS
    - Audit the Federal Reserve
    - Abolish the Federal Reserve
    - Return to sound (Gold based) money
    - Physically secure our borders
    - Deport illegal aliens
    - End Government Healthcare
    - End Government Welfare
    - Defer to State's Rights on Education, Abortion, and other social issues
    - Limit the Federal Government to its Constitutional powers of administering criminal justice and defending the national sovereignty

If that sounds like a good plan, can someone please tell me why so many people disregard Ron Paul and like minded politicians?
  • To "By America"
What does "the majority" have to do with what "individuals" worship or don't worship? My non-belief is not grounded in how many people are for or against religion/god(s).

"MAJORITY RULES" is the problem in this country and for that matter the world. It negates everything the founding fathers stood for and hoped for. Individualsim is about making your own choices...even when it goes against the main stream. Why do you think we left England to begin with?

    Religion is politics...plain and simple.
  • Solutions...
The event is based on the belief that "The solution to the nation’s problems is found in God – not in the Congress or the White House."
...sorry but the person quoted is wrong on both accounts. God does not care...we are on our own; hence that whole free will thing. God will just be around to pick up the pieces. As far as the Congress or the White House are concerned, they are collectively the crux of the problem.
  • Sam Wright
    you done good boy!!!!
you get a gold star and two I say two cookies. my prayer 'xactly.....

    DRIP don't return incumbent politicians
  • This might have some bearing on the topic of many comments.
It's a reply to Lee yesterday, too late to get posted, but the basics hold true here.

I don’t care who you vote for Lee, just don’t kid yourself why.

Most of our laws are based on, or agree with, Judea-Christian religious beliefs, it’s just that you probably happen to agree with laws against murder (or most murder, anyway) and theft.

My opposition to abortion is based on when I believe new life begins, and what constitutes murder. It also happens to be consistent with my belief that when a murderer kills a pregnant woman they are also guilty of the murder of the unborn child.

My opposition to gay marriage is based on the fact that it is not reaffirming right, but granting privilege. I’ve no problem with rights of inheritance and next of kin for gay couples, but I believe those are already covered by current power of attorney and contract law. The fact that even cultures open about homosexuality sanctify marriage as between a man and a woman should tell one there’s more to marriage than what those stuck on this issue are letting on, or probably even realize.

If you think anybody’s individual rights will be protected by the dp, which by their own logic doesn’t believe in individual rights (much less their primacy), you’ll know the truth soon enough once they socialize medicine.

When it comes down to it I wouldn’t deny God for anybody’s comfort or support, politically or personally. On the practical side, the unalienable nature of our individual rights comes from their divine origin, to deny it is to debase them. Doing so also destroys the primary constitutional restraint on Christians or anybody else from imposing a theocracy or socialist state in The USA. Leap, but look deeply and closely before you leap. Otherwise you’ll likely just land somewhere worse.
  • God is good
I am a Christian, and considered myself a Repub before the party went down the potty. I definitely agree that man must step up and do his part, and God does not answer prayers just because it is a prayer. He answers prayers that fit His will. I am tired of the Repubs pretending to be a party of Christians, when they are just politicians like the rest. I don't believe God supports politics, He is much larger than all this madness. He is still good despite man's failures. There is nothing wrong with urging people to pray, but the Repubs need to step up and get some real ideas on how to save this country.
  • Neal...are you friggin' insane???
okay. the repubicans are like stone statues sailing a straw raft in a hurricane or better yet, dumb and dumber.

yes the religious leaders should lead in prayers no problem there. but the statement "WE SHOULD EXPECT BETTER FROM OUR ELECTED 'OFFAL'" is friggin nutz!!!

if you ever 'xpect an elected offal to do to anything better I have some ocean front property here in Tucson I'll sell you at a very high price...

it is time for us to find an HONEST working man/woman that will go to D.C. and do the job as we tell them to do within the constitution. no perks other than a very good salary. one 6 year term then back to their work.

and for those of you that may have trouble with me using OFFAL instead of official rush to your dictionary, or for the gubmint edukated, the big book gramma sits on at thanks givin'

    DRIP don't return incumbent politicians
  • Response to Eve
This country WILL fail if we don't use our faith in God and Christ (which looks like what the majority of this country wants). The Bibly (to us)contains the rules by which to live- time for people to follow them.I know this is a free country, but when we first began this journey, I did not hear the country telling CHristians to shut up- most of them were Christians. AMazing how because we were tolerant of other religions that now our religion is being bashed! Did you ever pay attention to what is on the Supreme Court building - HMM?? WOnder why that was put there. Guess we need to knock down that building to appease those that might be offended by Christianity or the Ten Commandments. Christians are the most tolerant of all religions if you think about it.We don't alienate-we love-if we are true Christians.
  • The spoken word to the Lord is a powerful force. Make no mistake brothers.
    I voted republican.
Also, I as a christian and voter will continue to pray for our country AND our President to do the right things.
    Praise the Lord!
  • RON PAUL RON PAUL
"Do any conservatives who are cut from the Goldwater cloth even exist anymore? Am I the only one?"

no, you're not the only one.

Typin' it till I'm blue in the face...

    Ron Paul 2012
  • I pray for our country also
    Neal:

I would say that prayer is essential, but also we must work for smaller government, recover things such as the 10th Amendment and issues that Chirstians value. The book of James say "faith without works is dead," so I will work hard with you Neal on the issues we agree with.
  • to Eve
and that's exactly the point many of us are trying to make. This notion that the Republicans are a bunch of religious nuts bent on forcing Christianity on everyone is FALSE. Please, point out some legislation that Republicans have put forth and seriously pushed that would FORCE people into Christianity.

This is the game that the Democrats, with the willing help of the MSM, are playing. They know that there are a lot of non-religious conservatives out there and the last thing they want is for those people to vote for Republicans. So convince them that the “radical religious right” has control of the Republican party and they will go elsewhere. It doesn’t matter if they get you to vote for them as long as you don’t vote for the “evil, bible-thumping Republican”.
  • Remember?
... separation of Church and State ...
  • amen
keep God out of government. It's sad to read these comments, people obviously don't get it. Republicans will fall if they use Christianity and the Bible as a resolution or a reason for all things... THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, NOT EVERYONE IS CHRISTIAN!!! This way Republicans are alienating anyone who's not a Christian. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! THRID PARTY PLEASE!!!!
  • Republicans are useless
I was on the cpac website prior to the live simulcast. i watched the chat room for a while. in the few minutes i was there, i saw a conversations about abortion, religion etc... i understand that conservatives can have deep religious beliefs, but when you have a bunch of people speak that are identified as republicans, the 2 get linked. turning off much of the center. (me for example, but i'm not a centrist, i'm a fiscal conservative). until the republicans can shake this polarizing group, they are useless.
    all hail the 10th amendment!
  • cheesy pete
Ever think that reliance and faith in a variety of non existent entities might just have something to do with the shape the world is in?
  • Why not?
The democrat...excuse me, socialist democrat party, has their own religion in global warming, the "less fortunate", and a sludge of other issues. So why not let republicans get more fanatical?

Let their refusal of a solid base destroy them both and lets get a completely different set of parties in there. Five strikes me as a good number.
  • So a Lib editor devises a headline like this and....
we conservatives and/or Christians are supposed to shit all over ourselves. Get over it Neal. You're letting the left pull you around by your skirt. The day we (conservatives or Christians) get a fair shot from the MSM, I'll start worrying about dumb-ass headlines like this. Stories like this are about as hard to find as a needle in a needle factory.
  • huh?
It was "conservative leaders." The word "Republican" is nowhere in the article. Neither is "Michael Steele." I understand the frustration with the paucity of ideas (I share that frustration), but why criticize a group of "conservative leaders" for urging Americans to pray?
  • Trust in G-d but tie you up your own camel
Look folks, I am a Christian but the Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) does have a point. He had a saying, "Trust in G-d but tie up your own camel". This means that trust in G-d through prayer, but take some action.
It appears that the Republican leadership is shunning anyone with values of limited government, low taxes and personal freedom and responsibility.
Until the Republican party gets someone like Goldwater or Reagan to lead, they will go the way of the Whigs.
  • What are you people talking about?
Did any of you, including Boortz, acrually read the article he links? The article never once mentions the Republican Party or any elected official therein. It does mention the Family Research Council, which is a private organization whose membership includes many, many pastors. A couple seconds on Google also shows that the Call2Fall event is primarily promoted on religiously oriented websites as a nondemoninational religious activity. Further, a Google search for "Call2Fall + republican" doesn't return a single hit other than this page!

Turns out, this "insensitive thought" is more accurately described as an "uninformed thought."
  • 'Pray for a Troubled Nation'
Is anybody reading the article? The headline is very misleading and has nothing to do with the article. Conservatives are not 'praying for a troubled nation'
  • The Godforsaken GOP
The three idealogical pillars of the GOP are limited government, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. Weaken or remove any one of these pillars and the GOP becomes a blander version of the democratic party. We can either pray that the GOP rediscovers its defining reasons for being or just vote Libertarian.
  • If there is a god
Does anyone really think he/she would favor one group over another?
  • Prayer
Hmm-wonder why our country is in shambles? We keep telling God that we don't need him.I am not a crazy religious freak ok, but I would guess if my husband or wife kept telling me that (I don't need you),I might Leave as well. While I do agree that we can't just shove Christianity down people's throats, I do believe that those of us who still rely on God need to continue to do so-even when we are met with opposition. We can't sit down and shut up like people want us to.Amazing how this supposed free religion country is all about letting everyone except the Christians have their opinions or even a voice, but if we mention God or Jesus or prayer, we are crucified for it. Kind of know a little of what Jesus went through-kind of, but none of us will know that kind of pain and humiliation because he already went through it for us.I am not saying we are to rely on prayer alone, we have to be active and stand up and do something or else we do look like fools. But, we can not send God away and stop praying just because we may look or sound stupid. As much as the conservatives need to stand up, so do the Christians.
  • Just about as effective...
    Dear Santa,

I'd like a new country, one based on self-reliance and personal responsiility, where working for a dollar earns a dollar and no one can take another person's life, liberty or property through force or fraud, not even the government.

PS-If you could deliver this earlier than Dec 25, I will give you EXTRA cookies and milk.
  • What really is needed...
... is for Republicans to be less confrontational and to be more constructive. People don't want to hear a bunch of republicans just saying 'NO!' to the democrats. They want to hear republicans saying 'no, and this is what is a better way'. They need to stop trying to reach to certain groups and just aim to appeal to people who are naturally conservative.

Everyone is besically conservative at the core, but they also want their neighbor to do well too. Republicans need to show how conservative policies will be good for people and their neighbors.

1- Saying 'no' to democrats is not enough. Show people a better way.

2- Stop worrying about enforcing moral beliefs on people. Instead campaign to show people that even though you might not hold the same beliefs in regards to marriage or abortion, that you are going to work to make certain no one will try to make anyones particular beliefs will be supressed.

Doing just those two things could cause a dramatic shift for the republicans in 2010. It won't happen though because they are to concerned about restricting personal freedoms and driven by greed for power that being in Washington gives them.

If they would wake up and realize that most people really don't give a damn that Ralph and Dave the gay couple are spouses they may see a few more votes. After all Ralph's and Dave's personal choices and lifestyle have absolutely ZERO impact on my life. The same is true with abortion. As much as I disagree with it, what another woman does with her body, as terrible as it may be, has no impact on my life.
  • Reality Calling
    GOP moves to right - 1980, 1984, 2000, 2004

GOP moves to "center" at the urging of the left
    1988, 1992, 2006, 2008

Hmmm I think I am seeing a pattern. Yes we need to listen to the media and niimnods claiming to be God.

Either that or maybe we need to start rolling back some of the damages done to our country.
  • Time for a change
Time for a new party. The big R's have fallen out of touch with reality, and more importantly the people they represent. The Libertarians don't believe in defending America. The Democrats are a half step from Socialism.

    anti-federalist.org

Belief in the Constitution and the essence of 1776 and America as promised in the Declaration of Independence. All men are created equal. Rights are not "granted" by the government, they are protected by the government. Limited Federal government, states rights, power to the people. Check it out Neal, I think you'll like it.
  • I have a "Goldwater in 64"...
...license plate nailed up over the barn door. ...and that's no lie!
  • Getting Duped
It's the mainstream media, of course they are going to have a headline like that. That's exactly what they want you to think of the Republican party, a bunch of bible-thumpers who think God will solve all our problems. And you Neal, and many of your Libertarian followers, fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Yes, the Republican party is in trouble, and on of the main reasons is because they have let the press and the democrats create the definition of what most people think of the Republicans; racist, sexist, bigots, homophobes, god and guns, and when you take one of these stories and run with it yourself, you are in fact helping them create this false definition of us.
  • Republician Prayer
Oh Lord, please don't let that meteor hit the Congress, but if you must, well, I understand. And, if you must, well, can it at least be when they’re in session.
  • Insensitive Thought
Which is why you're the High Priest. However, others might not agree with you. My son, he of the tattoos and abrupt manner, keeps his personal faith even after two Iraqi tours with the Corps and his current law enforcement service. My thought is most Americans keep their faith to themselves but the overt attacks on their faith are causing more to "get their own back." Since religion is the opiate of the masses as espoused by Marx and held onto tightly by the extreme liberal wing of the democrat party. It seems to me the underlying currents are flowing against the liberals as shown by every day Americans fighting back by publicly announcing their faith more often.

It seems, Neal, you've bought into the media's portrayal of the "Religious Right" going back to the Reagan years.
  • exactly
as our nation becomes less christian the republican party has become more evangelical. for some reason that doesn't seem like a good strategy. leave the religion out of politics, it is not needed and counterproductive. i can explain why republican ideals are better for the country without bringing up abortion and creationism, the perceived republican view on these issues make us all look like fools.

    time for a change...republicanremix.com
  • I am not a republican, can you get that?
This is god calling. I am NOT a member of the republican party. You understand that, GOP?
  • Drop the religious part...
Neal, the Republican Party is in a shambles, and Steele is just as ignorant as his predecessors when it comes to real direction. What's needed is a new-age Barry Goldwater-type statesman who can lead conservatives, not just Republicans, not just libertarians, but all conservatives. Someone who realizes that Christian zealots have invaded the party, and have done nothing but get the entire Republican moniker successfully demonized by the liberals and left as trying to form a theocracy. Our country's Christian foundation is not in question here, and I'm not advocating freedom from religion, but the party needs to separate from the fundamentalist mentality.

Do any conservatives who are cut from the Goldwater cloth even exist anymore? Am I the only one?
  • Dear Lord in Heaven...
...please protect me from your followers. ...Amen
