A NATIONAL BAILOUT AGENCY??

How would you feel if I told you that our imperial federal government was going to set up a powerful national agency to bailout cities and states? Considering where the looter-in-chief and the Democrats are taking this country, it probably wouldn't surprise you. The man who orchestrated the financial rescue of New York City in the 1970s is advocating this type of agency. Felix Rohatyn says that Congress should consider creating an entity like the Reconstruction Finance Corp. that was created back in 1932.

Seeing as our government is doing such a fantastic job bailing out the financial industry or the auto industry ... don't you think that we should give the government even more power to bailout our cities and states? You know where this goes, don't you? The emasculation of local governments and the primacy of the federal government. Come on, folks. Can't you see this coming? We have a president who is completely and absolutely in love with government - a president that has no love for the private sector. Just where do you think this is going to take our country? Do you see those people driving around with Obama bumper stickers on their cars? Your children are going to have a lot to thank them for.

Speaking of bailouts ...

What others are saying

  • National Socialist party ---DEMONacrats
Face it people, we now have in El Districto De Criminales a majority of those who beleive that the Central Government is the cure and savior of the people, as long as the people and their States have no power to disuade the Central Savior. The U.S. constitution has been totally uspurped as our founders feared by a government gone totally awry and demanding absolute power. Those in power in D.C. have no liking of "The Free Market System" or "The Power of The People". they are totally immersed in their own power and thier love of thier own brand of Marxism. The "Brown Shirts" are forming up and will be on the streets and in your homes sooner than you think.
  • National Bailout?
Is this administration that crazy? Yep! The solution for this entire mess is so simple and direct.

    FAIR TAX!

Too bad our "representatives" are just too low down stupid to see that.
  • Bailout Death Spiral
tshirt - I would first question the premise that it's the Republicans that are the sole, "borrow and spend-ers,". Keep in mind it is Obama's plan to bury us in debt with China among others to pay for his socialist revolution.

The difference between the two is the amount of total spending. Taxation merely confiscates the earnings of the population directly, so the spending as a result can only go as far as is raked in by the gubmint.

Borrowing, on the other hand, has only the limit of how much the country will lend you, but the long term spending is much more. The lender expects interest, which will be paid off by, guess what, taxation. Nice catch-22 there.

To get the original point on topic, by creating a, "bailout division," of gubmint, the administration only makes another black hole for funds to fall into, and another alter for the parasites to pray to. Just another way to, "justify," increased or new taxes.

And round and round we go.

and what's the differece between democrats tax-and-spend policy and the republicans borrow-and-spend policy?

    nothing
    By tshirt-doctor.com @ 05/07/09 09:57:01 AM

YES, there is. One creates crushing debt for our children, that will EVENTUALLY catch up with us, and is just about to. The other supresses all abbition and desire to succeed, both on the personal level and the business level. While your throwing blame around, please open your eyes and see: Obama is now doing BOTH OF THOSE THINGS!!!!!!
True Republicans/conservatives are trying to get us back to doing NEITHER of them. Which of those 4 catagories are you in?
  • The Constitutional Party
A few weeks ago Neal mentioned Newt was suggesting a third party. I agree, but I don’t know if I’d call it a third party. The Republican Party is DOA. Conservatives need to build an entirely NEW party from the ashes of the GOP. I propose the new party be called the Constitutionalist Party and its core charter and sole purpose should be to restore the Constitution of the United States to the prominence and status it should have always had in our system of government. The immediate agenda of this newly formed party should be something like this:

First, the new party should create a list of roles and responsibilities of the federal government as established by the Constitution; a list that could easily be upheld by any court of law. If not specifically called out in the Constitution as being a federal role it then falls back to the state. In such cases the federal government would have zero authority in such matters.

Next, the new party should list all areas the federal government is unconstitutionally involved in, prioritize and eliminate any such conflicts and put these areas of responsibility back into the states hands as called out in the 10th amendment.

Their next priority must be tax reform. For too long the tax system has been used as a weapon and reward system. Whatever new tax system that is decided on it must have a few minimum requirements. First, everyone should have skin in the game. All voters should pay taxes in some way or another. This is to ensure we never again get to a point where one group of voters can vote another group’s tax dollars be taken and spent on themselves. Second, there must be a balanced budget amendment requiring a balanced budget unless there is a 3/4s or even 4/5s majority approving spending more than earned in any given year. In such a case there must be a minimum time requirement to repay any debt incurred.

The government should get out of the business of charity. PERIOD! They are inefficient and it’s nothing more than buying votes. Additionally, fraud is rampant in such a huge bureaucracy. Charity starts at home.

    Once the new party gets their arms around these issues they need to push for other reforms to restore our Constitution and ensure we never again get to where we are today. Here are just a few ideas;

Any bill introduced in congress should only be allowed to include related items. For example, if congress wishes to change the interstate speed limit (assuming they have any authority here) they can also include fines for speeding, but nothing concerning construction of interstates or protection of field mice in California. The purpose of this is to eliminate ear marks, and to keep items out that are nothing more than purchasing a vote for the bill.

    Term limits

    Line Item Veto

    Entitlement reform/elimination
  • I am confused...
Where are the results of the stress test that were supposed to come out today? This news should be THE leading news. All I can find on the subject are articles talking about Bank of America. Peppered throughout these stories are names of other institutions with numbers in the gutters. How come this is not a big story. THIS is THE story. Is the media running cover for the administration on this? The names of institutions that are basically insolvent that I know of are as follows in no particular order: Citigroup, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PNC Financial Services Group, Suntrust Banks, Capital One Financial Corp, BB&T Corp, Regions Financial Corp, Fifth Third Bancorp, Keycorp and GMAC. These banks under normal circumstances would be considered bankrupt. These are not normal circumstances though. The very fact that the stress test results were pushed back so many times and the fact that today is the day and it is already past noon tells me that the powers that be are going to attempt to get away with just not releasing the numbers to the media. Anyone else wondering the same?
  • PEBO and his doctor
Dr.: do you know how much a candy bar costs? PEBO: 'Bout a hundred dollars. Dr.: Do you know how much one of those new compact cars costs? PEBO: 'Bout a hundred dollars. (Thanks RAINMAN president)
  • Elections
Elections have always been more or less a farce in this country.

Back to topic-I can very much see an entity like RFC coming into being and California will likely be the first state taken over.

The question then will be when will the States be abolished.
  • To tshirt-doctor.com
Alot of people don't know that Lincoln wanted to deport all of the Blacks back to Africa after they were freed. He was doing because he was a racist. That is not taught in government schools...I wonder why.
  • state problem
are states allowed to surrender their sovereingty voluntarily like this?

at any rate.. I have a slogan that those libertarians republicans and conservatives in general can adopt in resposne to all this..

    its the constitution, stupid.
  • bob barr
i don't like bob barr. i don't remember when it was, it was long ago, some people where have a vote for medical marijuana. barr didn't like the idea, so he had the funding cut. without funding they couldn't afford to have a vote.
that's low down if you ask me
  • Big Africa
Big Africa, you're going to a lynched for your statements about lincoln. he is a hero. just read your history books. its got their propaganda write there.
    (/sarcasm)
  • To Doug davis
Yes it does. Awesome. You are finally catching on. The fed is literally taking over control of the states. It is only a matter of time.
  • Fire the Mayor
Does this mean that if a city decides to take bailout money the Fed can fire the Mayor and add Fed representation on the city council?
  • Writting on the wall
This is surely Obama's answer to those state governors who had the gall to reject, or who threatened to reject, his stimulus money. The continuation of the unfunded mandates would later cripple the states' economy further, and some recognized this. Obama can't have rejection of his schemes, so here it somes. Very likely, this agency would have the power to bypass state decisions, and give money (and take contrlol) directly to cities and counties. Just wait and watch...
  • MickeyPvX
and what's the differece between democrats tax-and-spend policy and the republicans borrow-and-spend policy?

    nothing
  • Agree with Red Leader...
....and when you think about it, its almost like America does not really have a president or much of a federal government, and hasn't in the last 8 years either. The president of the U.S upholds, defends and preserves the Constitution which is America ultimate rule of law. That is the president's job description...so what do we call this current administration or Bush's for that matter if they do not fit the job description, but have decided to get into to power and follow some other set of rules, some other guidelines that are not America's? But rather just make it up as they go rather than pay attention to their job description as members of the federal goverment? Just something to think about. The fact that Obama idolizes a white supremacist tyrant and overlooker of the constitution like Lincoln should scare us.
  • Red and Ben
I hear ya Ben! And Red Leader has many valid points so I'm with ya. Is Ron Paul going to run himself or support another Libertarian?

Also, as P. McCall pointed out in the Reading Assignments, Georgia has passed a 10th Amendment Resolution, SR632, so congrats to our state! They have more guts than I thought.

And Stan, that was just plain dumb.
  • The states must reassert their power
Read http://socialsense.blogspot.com/2009/04/state-sovereignty.html, and you will see one way we can push the federal government back through non-violent means.
  • The REAL issue with gov't bailouts
Those localities (cities, counties, and even states) that have been fiscally irresponsible are those that are clamoring for a federal bailout. The local citizenry will not tax themselves to support their own local governments, and why sould they? Here come Uncle Barack to the rescue! Why spend your own money when you can spend somebody else's ??
  • Asinine
How are you going to explain to South Carolina that they need to bail out California?
  • Tax Lessons
PappaTex: "It's rediculous that the Fed takes such a large amount of money from the taxpayers, and then expects the states to come begging at the trough to get some of it back."

That's what we're doing now anyways! All that a 1040 is, is a begging sheet for you to contest taxes that you have already paid to see if the gubmint will be gracious enough to give some back to you. Unless you're an evil rich person in which case along with your 1040 (and a myriad of other obscure tax documents) you'll need to include a check because you haven't paid enough yet (after all, you have more stuff than Bubba-J who collects welfare and doesn't work).

It seems to me that the current administration doesn't quite understand the death spiral that is the liberal tax-and-spend policy. It starts out with their well-intended programs to, "help the little guy," *gag*.

For liberals, the only way to increase tax revenue to the gubmint (despite pesky things like data) is to raise taxes or create new ones. What happens inevitably are a few things: in the case of sales taxes on things like tobacco or alcohol, sales will probably go down, or people will go somewhere else to buy them (Canada/Mexico/another state).

In the case of increased income/corporate taxes, people/businesses have some options as well. They can move, as is seen in New York, California, and in companies that are currently being demonized for doing business offshore, or they can do something that is completely opposite of the American Dream: they can stop improving themselves. Why get that promotion and pay raise if it will put me over the arbitrary amount the gubmint has decided is, "rich?" Why expand my business for the same reason?

End result: both productivity and tax revenue stagnate or go down, so to make up for the lagging tax revenue, liberals then look back to step number one, rinsing and repeating like a bad shampoo...

Have we learned something today? (Pardon the length)
  • Bailouts for the Bailout
atlmom, they will never lower taxes so that the states and cities will have the ability to collect taxes. they want our cities and states to BEG for their money back. that's called POWER
  • Wait
Neal likes the local government but not the federal government??? Isnt the local government the same thing just half as educated?
  • state and municipality bailout
I had not heard that the President wanted to assist the ailing states and cities but it does not surprise me. I we had a government that understood and followed the 10th amendment none of this would be happening. We would still be in a fairly severe recession (perhaps even more severe) but we would come out of it stronger, faster and wiser than before. As it is I only see our President bailing out the country into bankruptcy. Every time we have given the democrats control they have put in place policies which while seeming to be fair and compassionate break down the financial and moral fiber of this country. Obama's policies may end up being the straw (democrat) that breaks our countries back.
  • Like I was saying....
...the effects of voting for a non-conservative almost 3rd party type like Amnesty Mccain and splitting the conservative vote to give Obama the win when there were available conservatives like Chuck Baldwin and Bob Barr...no reason to complain now. We amongst the Ron Paul Republicans have been trying to warn about this stuff for about the past year and a half before Obama was even elected. You're KIDDING yourself if you think this is where Obama's radical lawlessness ends. Remember we're still in the first year.Mccain voters you made your bed, and allowed the media to convince you that REAL conservatism(Paul,Barr, Baldwin) could not win. We have a chance in the mid term to listen to Paul, lets see how many have the courage to insist that Republicans destroy the leftist neo-con world police mentality and return to traditonal conservatism and the constitution......it starts with overturning the Patriot Act and bringing troops home from everywhere and forging a new non-interventionist non-nation building foreign policy with secured borders. The ideas of the founders. Now I guess its time for the neo-cons to attack my traditional conservative stance, since they usually have a naturally occuring fear of freedom and responsibility.
  • We have to change our way of thinking
It's not a matter of "leave the power in the states". We already HAVE the power we have to stop letting the Feds TAKE IT!

Georgia needs to sign a resolution similar to Texas and Oklahoma.

Tell the Fed if we need your stinking money we'll let you know. Other than that keep out of our business.
  • atlmom and PappaTax
Don't you get it? It's all about power. The feds want to dictate every aspect of our lives.

    Joyce,
If something doesn't happen soon ACORN and Obama's other minions will have the voting system so corrupt we will never have another real election. They will all be farces.
  • So predictable...
The fed did not think that they would have so many states here in the US that would be threatening seccession. This move is to give feds direct access to the budgets of the states. They would have access to everything and they would have no trouble taking action to keep those states from secceeding from the union. This is also a move to soften their image in cities. The more "good" they do for us the more we will trust them. They are literally using the same tactics they use against other countries after they invade them.
  • Tax form
If the DemCong do this they can rewrite the tax code and make the the 1040 the size of a post card.

If you made more than $50,000, send a check for the difference.

Except of course, you are a member of the central committee, the DemParty, member of state or local Gubmint, political appointee, teacher, union member, ACORN, gay or lesbian, Hollywood star, or any other identified group other than white male.

If you made less than $50,000, we will send you a check for the difference.
  • 2010/2012 can't come soon enough
Is he going to strong arm these? Put cities through stress tests? Totally violate the 10th amendment AGAIN???
  • Why!
It's rediculous that the Fed takes such a large amount of money from the taxpayers, and then expects the states to come begging at the trough to get some of it back.

It they would leave the money and the power in the states, any problems encountered would be on a much smaller scale, and there would be 50 independent laboratories to develop a better solution.
  • Bailouts...
Instead of me sending money to the feds, so they can send it right back...can't the feds just lower taxes so that the states and cities will have the ability to collect taxes so they can pay for their services? I know taxes aren't popular (and seriously, the Atlanta govt's doing a lousy job with our money) - however, the local govts are more responsive (as in, my senator/house rep is nowhere to be found, but I know where my city council members live, I know how to get a hold of the more local reps).
Seriously...can't the feds say to themselves...hey, if only we didn't confiscate so much money, the states and cities would be able to bail themselves out?
