I thought that me hanging around with a group of private pilots and airplane owners this past weekend would stir some outrage. I really thought that revealing that I spent Saturday in the company of evil, accomplished people who (gasp!) own airplanes would cause a backlash. We are, after all, in the "everybody should have an equal amount of stuff" era. Maybe I can still salvage some outrage here if I tell you that Cessna was there showing off its new Cessna Mustang! This is a small jet twin that can carry a pilot and four passengers and can be had for around $2.8 million! It's not so much a business jet as it is a personal jet! Just think of the carbon footprint you can generate as you fly your friends and family off to a $1000 hamburger and weekend at the beach! You had other private jets on display that you could get for as little as a bill and a half! This is an outrage! How dare these people even think about buying luxuries like this when there are people trying to figure out how they can feed their nine children on food stamps and still have time to try to remember who all the fathers were!

What others are saying

  • Airshow Photos
A friend of mine was a volunteer photographer at the airshow. You can see her photos and read her journal here: http://thepinkpunk.deviantart.com/
Not bad for a teenager, huh? This young lady is going places!
  • His website, etc.
The point really wasn't about the content ... the point was about how stupid he sounds when he goes off on others enjoying (insert non-airplane related interest here) in their spare time.

Now we probably all agree that Boortz can have no problem sounding stupid and as you point out, it is his website.
  • You can fly green too in your private plane if that is your thing.

  • Angel flight broadcast
You & the owner/operator of the Angel flight need to be awarded people of the year for the rapid response. Not a dry eye when you posted the report of the child now on the way for the transplants.

You are probably the type of person that would just say, just doing my job.....

You are all Heroes, I do plan on buying a plane some day (been hard to get the hours lately & have not flown since last Sept) and when I do, I will be be part of Angel flight.

  • I love you Neal
I love you Neal... Love the plane more(maybe). Awwww I grew up on the airport... darn us rich people... or rather people who rather spend their money on airplanes than having the other fancies. I will tell you one thing, as a 27, who grew up, spending many hours, days, weeks, months, and years at the airport. Half of my dad's students were average joes with the need for flying freedom. And to solve the need for how to get more taxpayers money for their nine children.. it is possibly easier now that Obama wants to take 'federal money' from student loans and turn it into pell grants. Gzzzz, I am fornuate to work, hmmmmm... thinking.....
  • Angel Flight
You mentioned this on your radio. I might still have that 1996 "Best of Boortz" CD that says the proceeds go to Angel Flight.

People who live near and complain about airports such as PDK don't think that when a plane takes off it could be someone's child being taken to have a life-saving transplant done, as you mentioned on the show.

Neal, here's some big Kudos for your support of Angel Flight!

BTW, do you remember a late '90's call from someone named Renaldo? I remember he really stirred things up, saying you shouldn't have an airplane, and shouldn't have so much money that you would be able to afford to buy one. His call made for a great show that day.
  • Aerobatic Pilots
You mentioned once you have an Extra.
    Aerobatic Pilots make me sick!!
  • Yawn, where are the PW Double Wasps?
That'll get me droolin' on the keyboard. Nah, I like anything with Wings or blades. I'm a little outraged you didn't picture that new Mustang (there I go thinking of RR Merlins), will that do?. It won't make me look up like military engines will.

Before too many aholes built houses on Jackson Lake, A-6s and 7s used to come up the river and over the lake at NOE practicing their dambusting runs. Hussein can keep his da above 30k, but all you flyboys and gals in miltary or historic aircraft can come on down. If anyone complains they sure won’t do it in front of me more than once.

I appreciate and enjoy fine things whether I own them myself or not. I have a few very wealthy relatives and friends, but I know lots of people who raise and support families making and providing top shelf things for the very wealthy to spend their money on.
  • Mike
Mike, his radio show, his website, his twitter- he can do what he wants. Nobody forced you to tune in or access the site: you did it yourself. So be prepared for what he has to offer. Don't like it? Then I will offer the same advice that liberals tell conservatives: change the channel.
If I had the opportunity I would do it too, so I guess I am shameful too.
  • Plane stories
Flying is fun, but reading about you rubbing elbows with pilots is boring.
  • Spotted Bortz at AirShow Saturday
I spotted Herr Bortz at the airshow. I asked him if he flew in a vintage ME109. He said we wished he had such a plane as it would be in keeping with the FarRight ideas he is promoting each day on his
    radio show.
  • Ancient Vulcan Proverb
Only Cap'n Herb can fly a fling wing.
  • Plane
I rather let the pilots that have the money to qualify to have the planes fly them. I could care less if they are "rich" or not.
  • Yawn. . .
    ibid
  • Focusing on the Important
    Boortz,

The next time you get the urge to tell us how stupid it is to spend time watching (Pick one: the SuperBowl, the Oscars, Entertainment Tonight, other non-critical entertainment) please take a look in the mirror and ask "Does anybody else care about my personal airplane stories?"

Short answer .... no. Long answer .... noooooo.

You should be ashamed of wasting valuable time focusing on private airplanes when you could be doing something meaningful.
  • Wasted Planes
The real wasted planes are the ones that are rotting in the airplane graveyards in the desert. The fleets are grounding their jets, never to fly again (most likely).
  • daughter of an avionics mechanic
I love the mustang. My husband has a single engine pilot's license and wants to get his double certification. I would love one of those mustangs.

Growing up in the airline industry and knowing just how sensitive people are to the market, I agree with all who say, "keep 'em coming."

Will people ever learn the marketplace in which we live. You can vilify one part and expect all the others to survive as if they are completely independent.
  • Wrong Era
I thought we were in the "Fix all of the Republican mistakes from the previous 8 years" era
  • Love it!
Not everyone will get it. That's ok.
  • fly in
Just want to put in a plug for Tangier Island VA in the Chesapeake Bay. They have a freshly repaved airstrip and their great seafood restaurants are getting ready to open for the season. (a few are open already). This is a great place and these hardworking people could use your business.
  • flying
A plane would be nice, but I REALLY want a helicopter.
  • liberal ant bed
I love it. For those of you missing the point of this section, I will explain. Liberals are a bed of ants to Mr. Boortz. He can't resist jabbing them with a stick now and then. Ha Ha.

More power to you, Neal. Hope you enjoyed your day of flying.
  • Buying nice things
Wealthy people continuing to buy high end products is important to the industries that produce the products. Those industries employ the much vaunted middle class, so if the wealthy don't buy, guess who loses?
  • wasted airplanes
Airplanes that are not flown are wasted. Static displays suck.
Not flying those big and little airp[lanes and even just talking about "waste" has gotten 25,000 aircraft workers [many are union] laid off.
Airplanes, the finest machinew ever built by mankind.
  • Speaking of planes...
At least you aren't scaring entire cities with your flybys Neal.

Have all the fun you want with your plane you filthy, stinking rich guy, you!
  • Utterly pointless article on Nealz Nuze
This article is pointless. Thanks for wasting 45 seconds of my time.
  • Beautiful!
That last sentence was a grammatical and sarcastic masterpiece!! My hat is off to you.
  • Plane
Is that your's? Sure is pretty! Can't wait 'til I have earned enough to afford one for myself - I will get there, one step at a time! Anyways, we need to hear more about the Mustang...and Cessna needs to get you one for 'marketing purposes'!
  • And
no one cares. Everyone is watching the google flu map.
  • Sun N Fun
I had a Great Time at Sun N Fun. After I put my two boy through private school I will be buying my own Plane. Cannot wait to drill holes in the sky!
Hope to see you again Next year at Lakeland.
