What others are saying
add: Portland, OR Tea Party
Oh, and by the way, everyone's signs were on-topic, and very few were not handmade. Plus, there were no incidents, arrests, or scuffles of any kind. We showed class - a foreign concept to those who oppose us.
Portland, OR Tea Party a smashing success!
Early estimates indicate at least 5000 pissed off taxpayers in Pioneer Courthouse Square. Now remember, everyone - this is the People's Republic of Portland, one of the most liberal cities in the union, and we drew five thousand people. Bear that in mind when the MSM tries to tell you how few people showed up elsewhere.
One hitch: we were barred from dumping any tea in the Willamette River. Apparently it's harmful to the turds, PCBs, and mercury already there.
Cape Girardeau Tea Party
Somewhere around 550 people showed up at the park to listen to David Limbaugh and others. Weather was nice and had a wonderful time.
Tea Parties
These tea parties are the stupidest thing in the world. We're talking about a proposed 3% increase in the top income tax bracket, which makes it much lower than it has been for most of recent American history, including most of Reagan's term. And now, we're having "tax protests"? I mean, these proposed tax rates are the same as our longest period of peacetime economic growth.
And guess what? They're not even instating that increase.
These people are protesting fictional taxes.
Or is it spending? Cause I'm sure glad we had all these tea parties when Bush was spending incredibly huge amounts on invading arbitrary middle eastern countries (I'm sure that these tea partyers aren't worried about destruction and lives lost), not to mention handing out money to pharmaceutical companies and banks. Oh, wait? These guys didn't do anything about that? So they just care when Democrats spend money to actually help our people and economy.
Also, the historical analogy is crap. The Boston Tea Party was about representation in the Parliament, and what minimal tax increases today. Shortly after the US was formed, it instituted similar high excise taxes on some things, and we actually had some rebellions over it. Our founding fathers crushed them.
I have to appreciate the Republican party's ability to gather poorly educated and largely clueless people to ardently support policies that hurt them. We'll see if this ludicrous "tea party" endeavor works as well as past frauds.
It's sad that the media feels such a need to appease the right wing that they give so much attention to these tea parties. Compare these with the scope of the Iraq war protests, and then compare the media coverage.
And then there's Fox News. They are not only cheering on these guys in their supposedly objective broadcasts, they are directly supporting these tea parties.
History's comments
Sure, drive the SUV's in the water, get rid of consumer goods and while we're at it get rid of the internet. Grab a horse and carriage and be on your way.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!! - IDIOTS!!!
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!! Seriously, Ive seen these signs all over Hannity, Cavuto, Beck and Oreillys shows and they never call them out as being morons. Its ok to show idiots in Harlem that think all these oddball positions about Obama, but when some moron is on the right, they dont mention it. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION was a slogan in 1773, when we were a colony without representation in British Parliament. If these yahoos could remember last November, there was an election, which means there is representation.
Im just ranting I cant stand idiots who dont know their own nations history, and then try to exploit it. There were 4,435 registered casualties of the Revolutionary War, and those men died so that no American would ever have to use the slogan NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION again, and the collective ignorance of the people using this slogan on tax day is offensive, and an embarrassment to all who take pride in the fact that we have had a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY for more than 230 years.
This whole thing is a marketing gimmick promoted by Fox News. I appreciate the meaning and enthusiasm, but these people just make the movement look like a stupid joke. I bet these rallies (which dilute the true patriotism displayed in Boston in 1773) will amount to merely a glorified display of the ignorance of the conservative American public, and will set back the true conservative movement (not the Republican movement, mind you) by a decade. In 5 years, people will look back and laugh at these rallies. Not to be a Debbie-Downer, but there is no organization here... no leader... no direction. Just a bunch of angry uneducated people getting together to gripe, while not promoting any responsible solutions. They aren't really pushing the Fair Tax, they're actually in some cases stating that they don't feel they should have to pay any taxes at all. They need a cause to fight for, not a reason to whine and complain, and without a cause and a leader, this is destined for failure. It is a fad, and will go the way of the side-of-the-head ponytail by the end of the year if a leader and a cause do not emerge.
re:history's comment
Apparently you are not intelligent enough to understand. It may be called Tea Parties but that doesn't mean there are old English ladies sitting around having tea and crumpets.Use your brain for once.It has to be called something and Tea Party is a good name.We could call them "Stop bankrupting my country" parties but that is too long and has no historical connotation to RELATE to.God, you dense people really should just stay in the toilet playing with what you are good at.Dem, right?
Grayson, GA tea party
4-8 tonight in the Grayson Park next to city hall.
Iowa City Tea Party
I could not put time in at the Iowa City tea party, but I was able to drive past it just now and honk my horn in support.
At 11:30, just as the event was starting, there were around sixty people on the Burlington Street bridge, and more arriving.
The best part about the Iowa City location is that Burlington Street borders the University of Iowa, a VERY liberal institution. There will be a lot of perplexed undergards and angry faculty walking and driving past in the next hour on their way to and from indoctrination sessions.
I do wish the anti-abortion people had kept their "Hitler's Holocaust=America's Holocaust" sign at home. Aside from the fact that I don't agree with the hard-core pro-lifers, this is a protest about financial irresponsibility, not abortion. Plus, the MSM will smear the whole thing as an anti-abortion protest.
The historical ignorance of these people is astounding
If you're not driving your SUVs into the nearest body of water and throwing your consumer goods into the bays then you are useless. You have forgotten what the actual Boston Tea Party was about. This puerile grandstanding is a blight on this nation's history.
MSM pays attention

re:mailman
OK, the four federal agencies that just pop in my head are the FAA, the FDA, the EPA, and the SEC. To me, all three require oversight across state lines or require funding that should not come from a single state.
as an example, you can't have environmental regulations that vary by state for certain things because pollution crosses states. Food and Drug safety applies to all citizens, yes? Flight regulations should be enforced and applied universally across states, yes? and regulating trading in markets and corporate accounting should be universally implemented, yes?
Are agencies such as these explicitly called out as being able to be funded through the constitution? I don't think they are but, again, I'm no expert.
To me, these are federal agencies that do many good things across the board but under the guidelines of only spending money per the constitution, would be eliminated.
Augusta, GA TEA party
At the Riverwalk, downtown Augusta, GA 5:00 pm. JOIN US!
downtown tampa
if there's one day worth taking pto, make it today. show up, the more people we get, the more deafening the mainstream media's silence will be when they refuse to cover these events.
The location has changed. Instead of being held at the downtown plaza, the party will be held on the steps of City Hall. Same time so be there and show your concerns!
re:What should we cut?
"Mailman (and others) - I would disagree with your notion that we should return to constitutional spending. Maybe I'm wrong here (and please correct me) but what would happen to spending on things like the FAA, Fisheries, Parks dept, EPA, nuclear regulatory agencies, pubic schools, interstate hwy's, interstate commerce dept, the SEC, and other departments like that? fed spending that really shouldn't be privatized but isn't really part of defense?
again, could be wrong on how that would flow via the constitution. Can anyone speak to that? By Mark @ 04/14/09 02:56:51 PM" Anything not specified as Federal responsibility pertaining to spending is by default relegated to the province of "Local" government or private and personal responsibility.I dare say most programs fed by the Federal government would be better left to state and local administration or dismantled to come up with a better idea.Everything in our lives does not need federal oversight. The individual and up is where to start, not the supreme government and down.
Good Rally News from MO
We had an excellent turnout at our rally today in Jefferson City. Yes, we are aware that Tax Day is tomorrow. But you see, our Capitol Event schedulers somehow forgot that we had planned our event and so they scheduled a vastly-more-important event, a fish fry. So we had a massive email effort and about a thousand of us showed up. Midwest Rally June 13 at the Boone County MO Fairgrounds! Neal, thank you for coming, it will be an inspiration and a hoot to boot! Stay free, everyone!
re:roberta
Hey Roberta,
I appreciate your post and did not know these things were going on in the past.
Regarding the fair tax, I have read about it and have talked with many of my friends about it and one of the things that I can't figure out is human behavior as it relates to consumer spending vs new taxes on goods and services.
By that I mean, my taxes are taken out of my pay but I still strive to make more money. I think that's true for the majority of people. However, if I am spending money and I have a choice between a new good that is 23 percent more expensive than a used good, I am more likely to chose the used good. I am incentivized to chose it, yes? And would that not then reduce overall tax receipts?
Also, as a percentage of my income, I spend more on "stuff" the less I make. Now, I know a good portion comes back to me in a prebate under the fair tax to cover these costs and, for the poor, that sounds great. My concern would be the middle class. Those who make well above the poverty line but aren't making more than say 70-100k a year as an average family of 4. To me, the Fair tax shifts more burden to those wage earners because the poor are covered with the prebates and the wealthy, as a percentage, pay less of their total income on goods and services. So, in effect, the larger portion of the tax burden would shift to those that the economy depends on most - the middle class.
I'll be up front, while I guess you could say the greater majority of people would then be paying the greater majority of taxes and that's the way it should be. But, why shift a greater tax burden to the people who spend the most? I'll be honest, I'm a fan of the progressive income tax. it makes sense to me that you should pay more the more you earn simply as a function of how much each additional dollar matters to you. I also agree that shifting ALL the burden up is a bad idea too. I'd be more open to an even more highly progressive tax where there were more brackets as you increased income and it was more graduated.
but, I don't understand how a) the fair tax can be considered revenue neutral when there is a HUGE unknown component of consumer behavior driving tax revenue and b)it seems to shift a larger portion of the tax burden down the line to the middle class.
Am I missing something or can you help me understand?
Are there any Tea Parties in Massachusetts?
YES!! Boston, Cape Cod, Pittsfield, Lowell, Springfield, and Worcester. http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/massachusetts/
rePaul, mailman
Paul, tax cuts do not pay for themselves. That has also been proven. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=165
Besides, a tax cut is only a tax cut when I pay less, my kids pay less, and our debt goes down. Anything else is borrowing whether it's called a tax cut or not.
Mailman (and others) - I would disagree with your notion that we should return to constitutional spending.
MARK
During Bush's two terms there were tax protests and FairTax representatives doing the same thing that are being done this April 15th. There are many more people now on board with this. That's why you're hearing more about it now. It is growing! This is not a partisan issue. One of the benefits of obtaining federal funding via the FairTax is that it removes most if not all opportunities for political powers to manipulate the current (ever changing Income tax) and allows we the people more power in when and how much tax each of us actually pays - based on our spending on NEW goods and services. It taxes visitors to our country and people who earn money illegally (who currently do not contribute to our federal tax system).
This is not a new issue being brought forward because President Obama is now in office. The FairTax is over 25 years old. It was not created to benefit Republicans. It is for the benefit and empowerment of ALL Americans. Please try to review this with an open mind - you may be surprised if you just fairly weigh out the pros and cons without the political party predjudice.

Mark, less talk more action.
You have a point Mark, but what are YOU going to do about it. "The real question is how do you get a majority of the public to understand that in order to cut taxes you HAVE to cut spending and have that force exert itself on their representatives?" You've asked the question on a comment board and nothing happened. Lead by example sir, for words without action ring hollow. Good luck.
Are there any Tea Parties in Massachusetts?
We're not all socialists, hippies and liberals here in Taxachusetts! I haven't heard anything about any tea parties in our state, however.
The Man's Keeping us Down
I know why there are so many liberals,I mean Fascists, that are ranting about the folly os tax protests and tea parties. These people used to be the counter culture but now the counter culture belongs to conservatives. Liberals are now "The Man". Gotta love it. I think I'll let my hair grow.
government powers
James Madison - Federalist Paper 45: "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in state governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation and foreign commerce." What ever happened to this idea???

Tax Cuts vs Spending Cuts
Re: Mark's comments
I agree with almost everything you said, except one thing. We have proven again and again that cuts in tax RATES result in increased tax REVENUE. That said, I still would like to see HUGE cuts in spending.
You asked for recommendations on what to cut. How about we look to the Constitution, and keep spending on those things that are legitimately the province of the Federal government, such as defense. We can cut anything else, such as medicare, medicaid, social security (which was supposed to be temporary anyway) and yes, George Bush's prescription drug benefit.
If we actually read the Constitution, and follow it, we can keep the U.S. Congress busy for years simply undoing all the programs the federal government should never have gotten into in the first place. When they are finished with that, perhaps they will have time to do some of the things THEY were supposed to do, such as rein in activist judges and return the balance of power back to the people as represented by their elected representatives in the House and Senate.
So, we have what the fighter pilots call a "target rich environment" when it comes to spending cuts. Now, let's find some conservative politicians willing to do that and get them elected.

Mark, oddly enough,I mostly agree
You are on point with most of what you say I think. But I think we should give The FairTax a chance. If you think it is regressive then I don't think you understand how it will work.It has been thought thoroughly thorough by far more educated and knowledgeable people than you and I.It would have to be better than the present system if for no other reason than to remove the power of tax incentives and lobbyist influence. What should we give up in the way of Government spending? Everything that is not specified in the Constitution.

re:mailman
Oh hey, I'm all for fresh ideas but, here is the problem as I see it.
1 - the government relies on tax revenue to operate
2 - the govt actually does many good things for the country
3 - representatives can't reconcile a desire to cut taxes overall without also cutting spending in their districts so, they take the easy way out and cut taxes but don't cut spending.
and that is the circle we go through.
The real question is how do you get a majority of the public to understand that in order to cut taxes you HAVE to cut spending and have that force exert itself on their representatives?
It's all great when the conversation is this abstract "govt spending" but, your rep knows where it really goes and I think they're all scared to cut spending because they know what that will mean.
heck, how many states already take more federal dollars to operate than they get in revenue from taxes? I think it's quite a few.
Again, I'm all for lower taxes but, let's be honest - the fair tax is regressive. No one will vote for it en-masse. But even if we changed to it and it worked well, without major cuts in spending, it won't make a bit of difference.
I'm all for fresh thinking but I've yet to hear a peep from anyone about what they want to cut and how that works to reduce our debt and what the amount of tax cut / offset that will mean.
All I keep hearing is whining about taxes and liberals. Which does zero for the credibility of these "teabagging" events (note to event planners: consult urban dictionary before making signs)
btw, I am a troll. :-P
Fellow naysayers
Anyone with half a brain realizes how idiotic these things are. You are not achieving anything by coming on this thread and trying to get people to admit it is two-faced to protest Obama's tax plan that's about 2 and 1/2 mos old when NONE OF THESE PEOPLE lifted a finger at the gross overspending we had the 6-8 years prior to this.
WE GET IT.
Just come to the rallies and hear what folks have to say. I'm headed there with my Ron Paul tee, hoping to meet some other FairTax supporters.
Think of it as exercising free speech and a chance to rebel against the Fed.
That isn't so bad, is it????
Gadsden Alabama Tea Party
This isn't organized yet that I know of for sure, but show up downtown at the Post office with your signs. We can march from there to Broad street to show our support.

Hmm. I think Mark is one of those trolls that just lurk the internet and try to cause trouble.Come join us Mark, open your mind to fresh thinking.
re:rocket
Yes, you definitely sound like someone NOT having a tantrum.
But, what you've said does nothing to explain the purpose of these protests/gatherings. I really don't get it. Are you saying we should pay less taxes? Great! What are we cutting?
I think everyone with sense agrees the government could not let major banks fail. So, I can't accept your argument that the govt shouldn't be doing something to protect them.
I'm pretty sure the sec of treasury paid those taxes plus interest.
I've never gotten a job from a person, period. I've been employed by companies only. I think that's probably true for most people.
Which kind of leads to the other point about "taxing the evil rich". Last I'd heard rates were being put back to where they were under Clinton. Which, historically, are still low. So, I don't understand your point there. And, since we actually did cut taxes on the top earners for the last 8 years and those cuts did not pay for themselves, I am not sure that' a good idea either.
I read this about SS - http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=64
And would really be interested in your thoughts on the last bullet in that summary.
I'm all for lower taxes! But, without comensurate cuts, they are simply loans our children will have to pay back.
So, what do the Teabaggers propose we cut to equal the taxes that they'd like to see go away?
Suggestions: defense, SSN, Medicare, Medicaid. Those are the biggest line items in our budget. Heck, let's start with that Rx drug plan put in by Bush and the republican congress! That thing cost a fortune!
Tea Party nay sayers
I think I know why there are so many people getting involved with these tea parties now when they did not when the Rebubs were in charge. We had the proverbial straw that has broken the camel's back. Sure the Republicans spent like drunken sailors. It was bad. So bad that they were voted out of office. We voted in a new bunch. And this bunch is WORSE than the Rebubs were!We just can't take it anymore. We are spent out!The Obama administration with Bush's blessing has sold our future down the road.In three months he has spent more than all the previous administrations combined. This is just not possible to do.We have to make our voices heard to other Americans.Let them know that we are coming together and we are going to put a stop to it.Either the politicians will hear us or we will again vote them out.
Why are you running your mouths?
This is not a thread for debate, we are noting our protests, they should not concern you if you don't like them.
Yes Liberty Watcher we are approaching Wimar status but this is going to get results. Will the politicians pay attention to the Tea Parties and FairTax Rallies? Probably not. The point is, we are getting the word out. To American voters!!! If we can get more voters to start thinking and educating themselves, then I say job accomplished.
And part of that education is kicking them all out of office.
So, ya'll back off and let people post their party info. Go to one of the other threads and spill your guts.
reason to PROTEST!
Mark: reasons for protest: 1)the A$$hole in charge of the IRS doesn't pay TAXES! WHY THE HELL SHOULD WE? 2)it's not the government's job to save failing companies WITH TAXPAYER $! NO TARP! they should have valued the default properties b4 spending 1 damn dime! at least reformed mark to market values...remember? "we gotta be done with this by Friday, or else the ENTIRE economy will fail" 3)stimulus package $ is nothing more than vote buying/payoffs with OUR $. That $ should only go to infastrucure & national defense programs. IF THAT!...not saving rats in Peloisi's district! 4)Omnibus spending bill, Obama's "read my lips, no new taxes" moment, except it was for 'earmarks'. 5)GOVRNMENT SUCKS at EVERYTHING it does! except for the military. 5)do u like paying taxes to support lazy a$$ people whose, job in life is live off the efforts of PRODUCTIVE people? 6) GEORGE BUSH SUCKED TOO! I did not vote for him in 2000, or owl gore either. & only did in 04 because of the "war on terror". WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING? 7)raising taxes on the 'evil' rich will do nothing to help the economy...they spend $ that give the rest of us JOBS! I've never gotten a JOB from a poor person. i'm sure i could think of 2-3 more but that's a good start! my question is where the HELL have you been the last 6 mos.? keep up! ...bet you haven't heard yet the social security system collected less $ than it sent out last month. About 10 years AHEAD of schedule! You may want to consider joining the protest? someone else's $ won't be there to support your retirement!
Yes, yes but where were you people
When Bush was in office. Obama is continuation off George Bush. He's just a prettier face on the package and better speaker than Bush. We're looking at the new Wimar Republic folks.
Higher taxes are coming because of the trillions being thrown into the system by the Obama administration. We're buying toxic assets which is at least 900 trillion dollars in bad dervivatives that will never be worth nothing. Also trillions to buy our own treasuries because the rest of the world doesn't want them. We're printing our own money to pay our own debt.
This is craziness people and this we'll leed us all into what happend to Argentina back in 2001 overnight folks. Visit sites like maxkeiser.com, financialcombat.com and theinternationalforecaster.com for finance news you can use to give you all a headsup into what's going on today.
The government is going for broke and we the people will be left holding the bag. Taxes, debters prison and all kinds of other Tyranny thrown onto the people.
Please Mark, just Shut up!
Temperfests? Try the Acorn and union workers picketing AIG. How about Code Pink and their obnoxious behavior at the Marine Corps recruiting center (Berkley)? I can guarantee you that thse demonstrations will be informative and respectful. Nothing like the "temperfests" you are oh so very obviously used to from the left.
liberals...
they really make me tired, these are protests against government overspending. can you get that across your thick sculls, what's the big deal? liberals protest all the time, nobody bothers them... here's a good article about it:

April 9, 2009
For Immediate Release:
Fond du Lac TEA Party Preparations in Final Stages The Fond du Lac TEA Party Rally being planned for 5:30pm on Wednesday, April 15 at Veterans Park, downtown Fond du Lac, is now in the final planning stages. TEA stands for Taxed Enough Already. Being held in honor of the Boston Tea Party, the rally is intended to give concerned citizens a chance to voice their frustration with the high taxes that are being imposed by government officials and the loss of everyday freedoms that accompany intrusive government actions. The rally will include appearances by Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross, patriotic sing-alongs, brief inspirational speeches by freedom-loving citizens, and opportunities to contact government officials with personalized messages. Momentum is building for the TEA Party and citizens from surrounding counties are inquiring and making plans to attend. All citizens who truly believe that the path of endless spending and debt are not the path we desire as Americans are invited to attend, regardless of political affiliation. Rally attendees are encouraged to bring signs bearing their personal messages and even dress up in Revolutionary costume, if so desired, to enhance the theme of the rally. Over 1800 TEA Party rallies are being held across the nation on April 15, including a state-wide rally earlier in the day on the steps of the state capitol in Madison. For further information on the Fond du Lac TEA Party, email fdlteaparty@att.net.

Check their story out to see what we're up against in the People's Republic of Portland. http://www.schumacherfurs.com

A Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Party rally will be held at Joe Stock Memorial Park on Wednesday, April 15, at noon, one of many similar rallies to be held around the country.
Some elected officials will attend the event, including state Rep. Jay Neal, R-Chickamauga.
So who is going to receive the honorary pearl necklace at the Atlanta Tea Party?
I wish I could
Neal, I can't make it to a protest and I would like to show my support! I fly the ole glory in my front yard every day and have been considering flying the flag upside down and at half staff?
I get it, Joyce. You, however...
What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take...
...TEA BAGS? Thomas Jefferson

What makes the naysayers think that those of us who are participating in tea parties aren't active in other areas of political activism?
Acorn
Our tax money will be paying the paid Acorn protester's to protest us protesting taxes. It doesn't get much better than that.
I will be there....
With my boss :) If that doesn't tell the Gov't something I don't know what will :)
Columbia, SC
Neal,
I'm considering attending the rally in Columbia, but my son has a baseball game that night. It's very important to him I be there, as it is for me. I want to know that missing my son's game to attend will be worth it. Will it make a difference?
I'm retired from the military and feel the call of my country again. I want to help and I want to make a difference. Convince me and your other listeners this matters. Especially when you've been so critical of the tea party this is turning into.
Have you invited any of my elected officials from SC to participate? In particular, my governor Mark Sanford?
We're listening, awaiting your answer.
Scaring politicians
tea parties are nice if you like tea or you're 5 years old. politicians are not worried about tea parties.politicians are scum never never never forget that. now if you were carring a BALLOT around that will scare the crap out of them.
heres another way to get some reaction out of D.C. encourage your family and friends to send messages to YOUR elected offal and let them know you aren't happy. the second thing you do is offer a solution to the problem. and no don't tell them to kill themselves!
WE as AMERICIANS can make a difference if WE stick together with OUR ballots hanging out.

DRIP don't return incumbent politicians
Forrest's comment
Forget the stupid Fairtax Rallies. Let's have an "End the Fed" Rally and support HR1207, which would eventually lead to the elimination of Income/Payroll Taxes all together without replacing it with anything.
Salisbury Tea Party
There will be a tea party here in Salisbury, MD on 4/15 from 4:30 to 6:30 at Downtown Plaza.
Be there or be square.
Tax Tea Party in Stuart, FL
Tax Tea Party Revolt Main Post Office johnson street Stuart Florida April 15 4:00-7:00. Corners of Colorado & US1 and Johnson&Kindred. Please keep off of post office property.Thank You
Sagacity Now is right
How are these tea parties going to change one corrupt congressman, one idiot Obama voter, or reduce anyone's taxes by a penny? Wouldn't it be more effective to have 50,000,000 income tax filers refuse to pay their income taxes en masse? A REAL protest, in other words. What's the IRS going to do in this case, jail 50,000,000 people?
Once again...
we have naysayers. What difference does it make to you? BACK OFF. We are having these and believe it or not they WILL have an effect. Will it make politicians sit up and take notice? Maybe not very many BUT it will get the attention of other voters who will think about it, maybe even do some research and get better educated. Make people vote differently come 2010. THAT would make it a "mission accomplished" effort. Voting is how we "stand up to our government" peacefully. Get it?
tea party madness
better watch out peta combining efforts with the epa might throw the whole lot of ya in jail for polluting the rivers and killing the fishies.ahh second thought if youre gonna do it do it right and bring youre w-2 and have a w-2 burning party .try it youll feel better..not that the message will ever sink into those drones taking up residence in washingtons tiny little pea sized brains but at least it would send a statement.
Tea Party
Okay Gainesville, FL people. On April 15th, at the downtown plaza, there will be our Tea Party from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Be there and bring your tea!
Those Tea Parties are JOKES
Yeah--that's it. Pay for tea out of your own pocket & throw it in the harbor as a "symbolic gesture".
Afterwards, go back home with this big bloated feeling of "We sent a message."
The message is, "We don't have a clue as to how to effectively stand up to our government."
Until you people get a clue, grow a spine, & stand toe to toe with the muckity mucks in Washington, you're not going to change anything.
God forbid we should ever be 20 years without a rebellion. Thomas Jefferson
REAL rebellion.
Roanoke Virginia Tea Party

Tea Party People
Where were all you tea party people during the twelve years that Rebooblicans controlled the House? Where were all you tea party people when the Rebooblicans had the Executive Branch for six of those years? Oh, I guess as long as they have that "R" next to their name anything they do is just fine with you. You tea party people are screaming your heads off now but you're the same d-bags that are going to turn around and vote Rebooblican in 2010 and 2012 and probably beyond. Do us all a favor, vote Libertarian or stay home.
Bluegrass Tax Liberation Day!
Applebee's Ball Park, Lexington, Kentucky April 18, 2009 1100-1400 This event was posted on the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policies Solutions (www.bipps.org) I believe this will be a fun and exciting event. I agree with Boortz. Sending in the tea bags are a waste of tea. I suggest we hold voter registrations at these tea party rallies, then send in copies of the voter cards with the tea bag stamp. Now you have something to influence politicians.

parties vs teabags
I don't recall Neal saying the protests were bunk. I believe he said sending little teabags to congress critters was a waste of time. And he's correct.
Russ
"I'm glad people are finally waking up to all the problems, but I'm guessing these tea parties won't do much good. Politicians will continue to do what suits their aganda, no matter how much people write, call or protest. When election time comes around, they'll just trash their opponents and hope the voters have a short memory....I pray that I'm wrong on this, but the phrase "Let them eat cake" comes to mind. By Russ"
Russ you are probably right but I don't consider getting the point across to a bunch of politicians the main reason for doing these. I'm hoping that more and more of the voting public will see these, do a little reading and get more educated. THAT will be what makes a difference come 2010. Cause remember, most of the funds from all these idiot bills won't be spent until starting 2010 thru 2012. We have time to reverse at least a large portion and stop the long term effect.
4/15/09 Uptown Station
4-8 PM. Let's show 'em the Panhandle is ticked!
Coastal Georgia Tea Party
Join folks at River Street (along the Savannah River) downtown Savannah, Georgia on April 15th from 12 to 7 - bring signs and the labels from tea bags.
Tea Party
Tea Party @ The old capital 5-7 Tallahassee FL.
Watkinsville-Oconee County GA Tea Party Protest
At 11 a.m. April 15 at Oconee Veterans Park on Hog Mountain Road near Watkinsville, GA, join a public demonstration of outrage at being treated as a source of income for our legislators' insatiable appetites for spending. Come to show your disgust in Obama's plan in just five years to double the debt that built from presidents George Washington to George W. Bush. Bring play money or tea bags for a bonfire, carry a sign and make some noise for sanity.
Tea Parties
Hey, Boortz -- I remember you saying that the Tea Party rallies were bunk!! While I'm glad you changed your tune, what made you decide to do that?
Kansas City Tea Party
Dont forget the Tea Party in Kansas City on the 15th at 1600hrs. It will be at the Liberty Mermorial.
Tulsa Tea Party
There will be a Tea Party on the 15th 11am-4pm at the Tulsa Courthouse Plaza in Tulsa, OK.
John Gibson will be broadcasting his Fox News Radio Show LIVE at the rally!
PLEASE drop the TEA PARTY name, change to FAIR TAX RALLY
Please work with Dapper Dan Hannity to change the name from the Atlanta tea party (sounds kinda ghey) to a Fair Tax Rally. You need to work with him and let him utilize his celebrity to give an extra push to the Fair Tax. Calling it a tea party doesn't push any ideas, it just conjures up images of middle aged folks throwing $.07 Lipton teabags into some water somewhere. I understand the motivation for the event, but not the marketing. Make it serve a purpose, and call it a Fair Tax Rally!!!
Cincinnati Tea Party
Be at Fountain Square April 15 for the 11:30 party; starts at the Square and then marches to City Hall. We had 5,000 at the March Tea Party, and we'll need a bigger turnout on tax day.
Tea Party-Tax Protest
Glad to see Neal has finally realized that the Tea Pary movement can help make waves towards our common goals. No reason why the tea parties can't morph towards the Fair Tax.
Dear Hugo,
Congress appropriates money. The President merely spends what Congress authorizes.
Tea Party
I'm glad people are finally waking up to all the problems, but I'm guessing these tea parties won't do much good. Politicians will continue to do what suits their aganda, no matter how much people write, call or protest. When election time comes around, they'll just trash their opponents and hope the voters have a short memory....I pray that I'm wrong on this, but the phrase "Let them eat cake" comes to mind.
Hugo
Don't be a jerk. If you don't want to participate fine. But back off, we are having these protests and NO we are not leaving to find a country that taxes less, we will get rid of the buddies of yours that want to tax us more. You're really starting to wear thin.
Hugo's ghost
explain your statements, and use "spellcheck", moron.
Tea Party Tips
To EVERYONE- remember, there will be press. I say this out of aggravation with what I see when the press interviews people. You know the media will use whatever they can get to twist this thing to make us look like a bunch of nuts. Be prepared to speak with good, solid facts and words that are not left to interpretation. Pick a fact or example that isn't a "talking point". Remember, your audience is everyone sitting at home, people who aren't typically engaged, not the people at the tea party. Sound calm, intelligent and informed, not radical.
I'll be in Fayetteville, AR, on the square from 4-7 with Matt T. See below.
Austin Tea Party
Two Events: 11:30 Am- Gov. Rick Perry, Michael Williams, Rep. Wayn Christian, Micahel Quinn Sullivan and Peggy Venable. At Town Hall
Round 2- 4 pm at the Capitol http://www.havinganaustinteaparty.com/
Hey Hugo's guest- It's quite clear that these protests are not going on because of a tax increase by 3%. If you like what's going on, why don't you move across either side of the pond- communists to the west, socialists to the east. I happen to be proud of the principles this country was started on and they need to be brought back. I'm tired of irresponsibility getting bailed out.
Connecticut Tea Parties
Hartford April 15, noon - 2:00 p.m. On the north steps of State Capitol, Capitol Avenue

What a surprise
Where were all you myrmidons when George Bush was giving Wall Street a trillion dollars while raping the constitution? Oh that's right-"Get a brain! Morans!" Now that Sean Hannity and Neal Boortz might have their tax rate increased by 3%, you can't wait to start dumping tea in the harbor, can you?
Feel free to head to some country where the tax rate is lower-but I don't think you will like what you find...
Harrisburg,PA Tea Party

U.S. Citizen abroad
As a U.S. citizen living abroad, I support the FairTax for purely selfish reasons- why should I worry about making "too much" and suddenly needing to pay U.S. income taxes on it? And why should I need to file U.S. income tax forms (which I've still yet to figure out and am looking for professional help on...) in order to say nothing other than "Yes, I already paid income taxes on this, and so I do not wish to be charged again, thank you"?
Are there any events being held internationally for people in my situation?
IDEA FOR A SIGN
Put a COPY of your voter registration on it.

Fair Tax Rally in Dalton Georgia
There will be a rally for the Fair Tax April 15 in Dalton, Georgia, at the post office on Thornton Avenue
fair tax
Fred Thompson was only presidential candidate would addressed "fair tax" in its proper context, repeal the "16th amendment", can you imagine what the current congress and Obama would do?
TX Conservative
I did not make the rules for the Iowa City tea party.
The IDNR notified organizers (I am not one) that they would be ticketed if they dumped actual tea in the river. This rule was not made by me, nor was I consulted on the decision.
Fresno / Central Valley, CA Tea Party
Fresno Ca at the Savemart Center Arena 1-7pm April 15th. We do have a voice, make them hear us.
tea party
seems boortz likes the idea of a tea party now that hannity and others are planning one...didnt he say tea partys were absurd? guess not if theres cameras around and boortzy gets to hob nob with and have his name mentioned with the real talk show hosts...smile for the camera neal!!!
No time is a waste
For those of you who think protests don't do any good, if you were around during the Vietnam War and remember a little incident at Kent State, you might remember the campus sit-ins all accross the US the next day. It did make some things change. The tea parties may not be the answer but it sure beats sitting on your --- and not doing anything.
Dayton, Ohio Tea Party
There is going to be a Tea Party at Courthouse square from 6-8. Don't forget your Fair Tax sign. I'll see you there!
re: Rob Evans
I would advise you to do the same, my friend. I'll gladly explain the difference since you seem to be confused. The Tea Party concept is based on people reacting to policies they disagree with. ACORN wants to show up to try and shout down the people they disagree with. Do I need to go on or do you get it now?
But..but..
Olbermann said these protests don't exist!!
Maine Tea Parties
There are at least three planned for Maine, Portland, Augusta and Bangor. Check http://taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/maine/ for details. Regards from Taxationland
Dayton activity
I think they are having something in Dayton, but the commercial is so obnoxious that I turn it off as soon as it comes on, so I don't know any details.
Columbia
I'll be in Columbia!!!
Oh and not all Tea Parties are without solutions, many have been asked if they are just complaining or if they are putting forth solutions and several have said they are actually putting together ideas and things they want to see happen, handing out contact information for their local reps, etc. I believe two of those are San Antonio and Orlando.
Find a FairTax rally or Tea Party with a purpose. DO SOMETHING, don't just sit there and complain about how stupid these are.
Midnight Rambler
Rambler, thank you for your concern for the river and the Iowa Department of Natrual Rescources' rules and regulations. Good thing there was no MDNR in 1773, otherwise the original tea party participants would have had to provide their own water containers marked "tea".

Re: Chuck
"I have already been hearing how ACORN wants to organize ( that has to be an oxymoron! ) Anti Tea Party demonstrations. Now that would get me off my duff. I'd love to get in some ACORN members faces to ask them why it's okay for Democrats to protest and carry on but any opposing point of view has to be attacked."
You should think for a while about the difference between saying someone is wrong and saying someone should not be allowed to speak.
Tennessee Tea Party
We're having one in Nashville at the Legislative Plaza from 11:00 til 2:00 I believe. Then in the evening, each of the individual counties in the state are going to have their own rallies. That way everyone who wants to join in can participate.
The TN Tea Party website is http://campaigns.gohearsay.com/t/r/l/tlkhtt/xhklytri/y
You can go there and find out more information and even build a profile to blog and keep in contact with your friends who also believe in limited government.

Tax day tea party
Fayetteville, Arkansas at the square from 4-7pm. I'm sure people will be there all day. Oh yea, I heard ACORN might show up posing as like minded people trying to take down info from everybody.
The Anti Tea Party...uh Party.
I have already been hearing how ACORN wants to organize ( that has to be an oxymoron! ) Anti Tea Party demonstrations. Now that would get me off my duff. I'd love to get in some ACORN members faces to ask them why it's okay for Democrats to protest and carry on but any opposing point of view has to be attacked. I think I'll have to make a note on my agenda! I think the Tea Parties are a waste of time in a way,( not focused on solutions) but if people don't start communicating in some form, we are screwed, and deservedly so.
Iowa City Tea Party
Tea party on the Burlington Street bridge in Iowa City from 11:30 to 12:30 April 15. Bring water containers marked "tea". (The IDNR will not let people dump actual tea in to the Iowa River.)

Sen. Grassley's FairTax Answer
Yesterday I attended a meeting with Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Senate finance committee, during his annual tour of Iowa. The context was a young professionals meeting at a local university. I asked, What is your position on Representative Linders FairTax plan? We learned several things from his answer: Sen. Grassley does not support the FairTax, instead favoring a flat tax. He believes the goal of the FairTax is simplification of the tax code. He stated that a national sales tax would interfere with the states tax base. He indicated that the FairTax would merely move tax decision making from the government to the marketplace.
Shortly thereafter another attendee made the observation that for all practical purposes, todays tax code started out as a flat tax. He asked if there was a way to prevent another flat tax becoming as convoluted as our current code. Sen. Grassleys immediate answer was No. Some detail was added, but it was basically an admission that the current income tax is as good a system as he could envision.
Is Fox News Co-opting the Tea Parties?
The Tea Parties are NOT Republican protests against Obama and the Dems. They are protests against the growth of government and the Republicans have been just as culpable. It is time for a principled third party.
Taxgiving Day Festivities
I'm hoping I can make it to the Columbia event. I suspect there will be an enormous crowd at both the SC and the Jacksonville rally. Let's see how much press they garner.
