And in keeping with the theme of taxes .......

A new report being released today finds that millions of citizens and illegal aliens will apply for tax refunds that they don't deserve. I know you are shocked, right? The report's official title is The Earned Income Tax Credit and Illegal Immigration: A Study in Fraud, Abuse, and Liberal Activism, and it was conducted by financial analyst and economist Edwin Rubenstein.

Rubenstein found that the Earned Income Tax Credit is "the largest anti-poverty program in the United States -- and the most illegal-immigrant friendly." He found that about 30% of all Earned Income Tax Credit claims were improperly paid. That equates to about 6 to 7 million households and $12 to $14 billion in fraudulent payments. The Earned Income Tax Credit is "the most accessible of the major entitlement programs and used by more people than food stamps and welfare combined."

Those are your tax dollars.

Al Qaeda had no significant standing military force, and they hit us pretty hard.

Maybe North Korea doesn't represent a major threat to mainland USA, but his missiles could kill quite a few of our military men and women stationed at bases within his range. Is that acceptable to you? It isn't to me.

When enemies from places around the globe have threatened to kill every last one of us and destroy our nation, America has no CHOICE but to police the world.
  • Taxed Enough Already
fairtax now..I make good money have no vehicle and pay taxes through the nose @10k per year just to feds I lost my house after tarp 1 was passed my monthly fixed rate home loan mysteriously went up 500.00 a month.I am currently considering quitting my career of 15 years because it simply does not pay to be a working class American anymore..story sound familiar America?
  • Taxes
Did no one read that Suisse Bank UBS was fined by the US $780.M for providing an offshore tax haven for 52,000 US citizens? The estimated amount of hidden assets is $15Trillion. The very wealthy in the US find ways of avoiding tax payments. The people who pay taxes are ALL people who simply pick up the crumbs from the VERY wealthy. READ THE FACTS. Stop believing Corporate Media.
  • EIC
I actually didn't qualify for this one year, didn't take it and they sent me a check anyway. I called them and said I shouldn't be getting this. They said--yes, you can have it. I gave up.
  • AWK
Wall street and the bankers share the blame, yes. Especially lately. They have played right into the left's hands.

But it's really been a 40 to 50 year campaign from the left and MSM to demonize successful people and to paint capitalism as evil that has capitalism on the ropes. That and the government educated masses who believe anything the boob tube tells them.

So if you're not a socialist, what would you call yourself? You seem to relish in your statement that "capitalism is on its way out."
  • Ben Dover
socialist? absolutely not. but i can see capitalism is on its way out. and you can thank the wall street, the bankers, and our politicians for that.
  • t shirt dr
I hope our country does fail

to keep going in the direction it's going.

And I'll do everything I can to ensure it does fail to keep going in the direction it's going.

I will NEVER be a socialist. Will you? Are you?
  • The Man from Nantucket
i don't like that at all. i wish we could stop all of that. be we can't.

i want all of you to read "the empire has no clothes" by ivan eland. he's gone thoughout history and figured out why empires have fallen. and american empire is about to fall. if we don't do anything about it. that's why i'm upset
  • EITC
Sorry, but I have seen first hand that the amount of fraud with EITC is 2 or 21/2 times that 20 persent amount. i work in the industry of tax prep. People have learned to come into a tax prep office and give just the right info to cheat the system. I not only know it happens but have seen it, but we have to "take them at their word". People sould be required to file forms proving that the children LIVED with them.
  • ILL EAGLE??
SICK BIRD OR OUR UNDOCUMENTED BROTHERS AND SISTERS FROM THE SOUTH. LET ME MAKE A GUESS...........95%?
  • Tax day
Illegal criminal aliens are the only hope that the ACORN and Democrats have in '10 and '12.
Dems got to buy votes and they do it by robbing taxpayers.
  • EITC
This is a big waste of taxpayer money. You give people money for being lazy. How is this Earned income? They are not working and letting the gov't pay for them to be able to not work. The sad thing is the gov't is buying into it -literally. We need to STOP the EITC- it is such a waste and only encourages people to not work. I just don't see how it is fair that they don't pay taxes at all AND the gov't gives them money back. Why?
  • The Right Kind of Immigrant
America is a nation of immigrants. They may be America's eventual salvation since it is apparent that so many native born Americans have an attitude of entitlement.
However, welfare in the form of earned income credits does not allow immigrants, regardless of their status, to develope the attitudes and skills to make them into good citizens. We do not do any favors for our immigrants or America by turning them into wards of the state.
  • @By Red Leader @ 04/14/09 09:43:36
Right on. You seem to be one of the few posters here who isn't falling for the same old tired spy vs. spy politics that both sides are selling.

Why haven't we sealed our borders to the south? Why do we allow illegals such easy access to our country post 911? Bush, McCain, Obama -- they all played the middle so closely that they didn't want to risk losing the Mex-American voting block. Amnesty is one thing but unannounced travel back-and-forth has to end but neither side has been willing.

Nine Pies - Did you just ask the webwench to edit the content of the posts you screw up? Is that a special consideration you think you deserve or do you figure she could do that for each and every one of the increasing number of messages posted here?
  • Court of Last Resort
Anyone ready for a massive class action lawsuit against President Obama and Eric Holder to force the Justice Department enforce immigration laws?
  • jacob
Well, I guess that's what you get when you have to choose between Obama and McAmnesty.

Gee, wonder what the country would look like if Ron Paul won the GOP's nomination?
  • Speaking of pirates
    just look at these guys.

And then there's the federal government.

Tomorrow is the ultimate pirate's day.
  • T-Shirt Dr.
Because we have troops in 2 warzones, no to mention the Korean DMZ, Kosovo, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, etc. And that costs money! If you want to argue that they should be brought home, that's fine. But I don't want to hear any screams of outrage when "Rape is OK laws" are passed, homosexuals are shot, hung, and stoned, historic works of art and culture are destroyed. We station troops around the world to ensure that we ca n protect not only our interests, but what is Right. A prime example of what happens when we can't get somewhere: Rwanda. We had no military resources in the region, and had NO means of preventing it.
  • anti-poverty program.
EITC:'The largest anti-poverty program in the United States'
Nope, free-market capitalism is. But it looks it'll be ending soon:)
  • ...keep working hard Americans....
While illegals barge into the U.S right under your noses, and as the Demopublican party keeps you distracted with the idea that 3rd world nations with no meaningful standing militaries have the ability to threaten mainland America. Mexico uses their military to help keep people from coming in through central America, why can't America figure out how to get soldiers out of places like South Korea,Japan and Germany and start putting America first. America can't afford to police the planet. Why not put effort into getting the American border secured?
  • is that all ?
why don't you report on how much the military gets away with. i know, you are ready to name me "an america hater". i just want to know why the military wants to take 40 to 50 percent of the taxes.

and all the people who are badmouthing me, probably don't know where that taxes go, they just believe whatever the government tells them.

  • If the EITC is LEGAL for illegal aliens
then can we sue Congress for malpractice, "high crimes and misdemeanors" or some such?
  • Can anyone say "FairTax"?
  • Edit - I meant "any NON-US citizen"
To clear up my earlier comment, "Resident alien" is defined as any Non-US citizen who's lived more than six months in the US.

(Webwench, you could just edit the original post... sorry.)
  • Don't mess with Texas
I agree Joyce, and I think we should all contact our state reps to join Texas in enforcing our 10th Amendment rights to limit the power of the Feds
  • EITC is LEGAL for illegal aliens
The EITC is available to any "resident alien", which is defined in the tax code to mean any US citizen who lived more than half the year in the U.S. Believe it or not, there is no requirement that the resident alien actually be "legal" in order to get this handout. Maybe Congress should start by changing that one tiny piece of the tax code.
