Barack Obama's cap-and-trade plan has been floating around out there for a while. And I have told you several times how this scheme is nothing more than a tax increase, plain and simple. It increases taxes by creating a market for carbon emitted by companies, and these companies somehow have to recoup the costs to pay for these credits. How are they going to do this? Any logical business would increase prices for its customers.

And the Obama administration knows that this is the case. They have admitted that their plans to implement this cap-and-trade system will increase energy costs. Don't worry, Obama will make sure that the appropriate households aren't affected by these increasing costs. The plan is to use the revenue generated by the carbon trade system in order to "soften the impact of higher energy prices." But anyone worth more than the wheels on their house will not see any of these promised benefits. That's because the Obama administration says, "There will be those who are going to be vulnerable as we make this transition and ... we need to actually target the allowance value and revenues to those households, communities, and businesses."

Those who are "vulnerable" is just another way of saying .. those people who are poor and vote Democrat. Those people who can't afford to shoulder the burden of this society but are more than willing to reap the benefits of its massive government welfare system. Those are the people that the Barack Obama administration wants to aid in this transition. And are you really buying the fact that these government welfare checks to offset higher energy costs will only be temporary? No way. That's the beauty of government - once you get the people hooked on an entitlement program, you can never ever take it away and politicians will always have it as political leverage.

What others are saying

  • Obama's view of the economy plus a response
Obama, I understand, plans to shoot pollutants into the air to block the sun light to decrease global warming. Wait, isn't that what they say is causing global warming? Face it, the man will symbolically shoot some soot into the air and then...tada...suddenly the reports will change showing that the earth is cooling. He'll be the eco-savior and all will be well. (Nice way to dig the government out of the hole they have placed themselves with OwlGore.)Too many people have figured out it is a scam and won't be "buying" into the credit stuff; therefore they have to change their story.
  • Here is an idea
If we could get a law passed called truth in pricing were all business's have to have price sticker that list line by line why an item costs what it does including the hidden taxes we pay, maybe then people will finally get the fact that corporations and business's don't pay taxes WE DO THROUGH HIGHER PRICES FOR GOODS AND SERVICES, GOD I am so tired of how ignorant the average American is when it comes to this stuff!
  • instead of..
instead of helping people who are "vulnerable" to this kind of thing survive the "transition" how about we just NOT DO IT? I dont see any good reason why.. ESPECAILLY in a recession.. that the federal govt should TAX US FOR BREATHING.
  • Carbon Welfare
What welfare is to people, this will be to buisinesses. Sellable carbon credits? The buisinesses that actually produce goods and services, will also produce the largest carbon foot prints. There is no way around it. The only way to have a buisiness without a carbon footprint is to have a buisiness that does nothing. These non producers will sell (extort) carbon credits to the producers. They get to take money from the producers simply for the fact that they do nothing. There will be an entire new sector of companies that produce nothing but carbon credits. Welfare corporations.
  • The problem with robbing Peter to pay Paul
is sooner or later, too much robbing makes Peter sore.
  • Shifting State... of Reality
I'm no scientist...and I was educated in government schools...but I thought that we cannot CREATE or DESTROY MATTER. So, how do we "create" Carbon? All we do is change its "state" (converting solid to gas, or liquid to gas, etc.) Therefore, doesn't the world's "carbon footprint" remain constant? What a bunch of politically generated (and money grabbing) horse pucky.

Also, I can't think of one single Government entitlement program that worked so well that it actually solved the underlying issue...and therefore was no longer needed. (Maybe the polio vaccine?)...whatever.

My dad's definition of Liberal: "People who make themselves feel good...with other people's money"

    FWIW

PS- kudos to the TalkMaster...a voice of sanity in a cacophony of BS
  • SHIFTING THE WEALTH
you are mad because the poor wants some of your wealth. you don't like that, so you fight that. you know what the rich are doing? they're laughing at us. if the can get us fighting among ourselves, no one will bother them.

its like the u.s. back when iraq was fight iran. we didn't care who one, as long as they didn't involve us.

but you won't agree with me. its alright. i don't expect it. that's because your in tune with the world as it comes from your tv.

if you want to see a carbon trading movie go to here ---> http://blip.tv/file/1004193/
  • carbon caps
There's one way in which a cap-and-trade plan would actually work: let the businesses "own" their credits.

If your company stays under its production cap, you actually get to sell your excess to another company, and you make the money. Not the government.

This would be an actual incentive to decrease pollution, because the business would directly profit from it. As a result, pollution would decrease without prices going up and hurting the consumer.

The reason it wouldn't pass: the government doesn't get any money. So, there's a solution, but it's probably not one that the government is interested in.
