The Wall Street Journal says that North Korea will ultimately benefit from their missile launch .. condemnations now, concessions later.

Barack Obama wants to legitimize the United Nations Human Rights Council. Read this and see if you think this is a good idea.

Despite reservations from Russia (and obviously Iran), Obama has decided to continue with the missile defense shield to be built in the Czech Republic and Poland. Score one for Obama.

Teacher's unions are more important to Democrats than the kids are. Democrats are sitting on evidence of voucher system successes.

Here's an excellent Wall Street Journal column about Obama's goal to nationalize the banking industry. And Barney Frank's little Pay for Performance Act is just one of many steps in making that a reality.

Is anybody else in this country even slightly concerned about the fact that government is the only sector that is growing and hiring new workers? This is exactly what Barack Obama and the Democrats want - more government.

If I were senior management in any company considering taxpayer assistance, I'd be considering early retirement. Because Tim Geithner has made it pretty clear that he is prepared to oust senior management and boards of directors of any bank that requires "exceptional" assistance.

Which states lead the way when it comes to the tax burden on its citizens? Remember that we aren't just talking income taxes.

Here's a side of the financial crisis that you will rarely read about .. the story of the computer programmer who created the software to bundled home mortgages into bonds, eventually leading to the collapse in subprime loans.

Barack Obama says that he supports Turkey's bid to become a member of the European Union. I'm sure there are a lot of Europeans that would disagree. Me? I don't really care one way or the other.

The New York Times Company has threatened to close The Boston Globe unless labor unions agree to concessions. Unions strike again.

The Obama administration is going to "protect Antarctica's fragile environment" by imposing mandatory limits on tourism to the region. Wait? We own Antarctica?

After calling Barack Obama an ignoramus, Hugo Chavez now says that he wants to reset relations with America.

Why does legalizing marijuana make sense?

I guess there really isn't a point to have red-light cameras in place if the government can't make enough money off of them.

The anti-gun crowds are going to have their hands full with this story about the man who killed three police officers because he was afraid Obama was going to ban guns. Clearly, the guy was a complete nutcase..

A woman who was text messaging on her phone while driving and ended up killing someone was sentenced to six years in prison. Why only six? And how long do you think she will really serve? Six years? I doubt it.

What others are saying

  • Pay for Performance
Here's an idea I've had for 20 years. Declare a particular year's deficit as a baseline. If this year's deficit is >= 100% of that baseline, Congress gets 0% of their salary. If this year's deficit is 75% of that baseline, Congress gets 25% of their salary. Only when the budget is balanced does Congress take home their full pay.

Now what would Barney Frank think of that?
  • Legalizing marijuana
And so, a deal: give us drugs, after a certain age — say, 80 — all drugs, any drugs we want. In return, we will give you our driver's licenses... without having to hear us complain about our every ache and reflux.

I actually like this idea, but the part about not hearing bodily complaints is fantasy. Not only would we hear them in Cheech-and-Chong detail, they would forget they told us in only five minutes instead of a half-hour.
  • atlanta people
to anyone from Atlanta, MARTA is gonna be shutting down for one day of the week - at lease, because our i d i o t legislature decided MARTA can't use their own money. funny. sad. http://www.examiner.com/x-6571-Atlanta-Political-Buzz-Examiner~y2009m4d5-Atlantas-transit-looking-at-dramatic-budget-cuts-including-shutting-down-service
  • The Boston Globe's Demise
A number of years ago when we bought our first house we had a neighbor who was a union pressman at the Globe. When we got to know him, we were talking about how often my wife would see him home during the day when most of the guys were off at work. He told us that the Globe had about twice as many pressmen as they needed. That was because they really only worked every other day. When it was his turn to work, he would punch the time clock for himself and another guy. On the days when he didn't work, the other guy would clock in for my neighbor and himself. So far as I know, this "deal" continued for years and years. No wonder they are broke. They take positions on issues far to the left of most of thier readers and the unions not only are getting high wages but continue to turn a blind eye on fraud.
  • Don't Run the Light!
Ok, so why is everyone now crying over red light cameras and the fines? Look people if you are going to do the crime then you are going pay the fine. Running a red light is a crime, just as speeding, and the government is welcome to every cent it can collect from you legally for your actions. I would rather have violators of the law paying more for their actions then my property taxes having to pay the mess they leave behind.
  • rash of shootings
With the 5 recent multiple homicides involving guns expect to see another "crisis" and a call to ban guns, or tax their ammo out of existence.

Of course when a deranged woman drowns her 5 children in a bathtub, where's the outcry to ban bathtubs. There isn't one because that would be ridiculous. But this is no more ridiculous than banning guns.
  • bundling
I'm confused again. Surely Wall street wasn't bundling mortgages into securities during the Clinton administration. I thought W started that?
  • Woman sentenced to six (6) years for manslaughter
Why did said woman only receive a six (6) year prison term for vehicular manslaughter? Because she is a woman of course- in the book “Death of Right & Wrong”, author Tammy Bruce exposes a pro-feminist paternal society in general & a legal system in particular that coddles dysfunctional women by rationalizing & enabling their misbehavior. In this current state of institutionalized Misandry (Men=bad & Women=good), irresponsible men are accorded financial penalties at best and prison at worst, whereas irresponsible women are coddled by American Society. Men do bad things because they are inherently evil whereas women do bad things because of exterior/interior “forces beyond their control” (e.g., evil manipulative MEN, mental illness, unsubstantiated “abuse”, etc.): CAPT Lisa Nowak, Mary Winkler, Andrea Yates, Debra LaFave, etc.
  • Ousting Executives
“If in the future, banks need exceptional assistance in order to get through this, then we will make sure that assistance comes,” “Where that requires a change in management and the board, then we will do that.”
So says Secretary (Tax Cheat) Geitner. So, Mr. Secretary, when will we be "through this?" At what point do you give up your extraordinary, unconstitutional (Illegal!) powers to take over banks on a whim? I wonder if the list of executives in jeopardy will be compared with the list of those who contribute to the Democrat Party? Who is there that can stop it, or even blow the whistle on such corruption?
  • Pittsburg shooter
The Pittsburgh shooter "nutcase" went to Catholic elementary and high schools. I though private schools were great. What went wrong?
  • legalizing marijuana
Win/Win - Volunteers at hospices and retirement homes and communities will increase.
  • so many comments, so little time so...
NORTH KOREA AGAIN!...why do we even attempt to talk to this demented wack-job,we have been f**ked on every agreement ever signed with him.. no deals, isolate them, let em starve. UN HUMAN RIGHTS....when are we gonna just toss the UN out of here and let Europe foot the bill for em. Better yet put the UN home in Iraq. PAY FOR PERFORMANCE...GREAT IDEA!!! lets not deprive others of this brilliant theory, lets apply it to congress, the education system, freddie mac and sallie mae(goodbye Barney!) COMPUTER GEEK WHO CREATED THE MONSTER...You can't blame him anymore than you can blame gun makers for gun crimes or America for 9/11...oh wait, we've already done that...OK HANG THE BASTARD!! NY TIMES CLOSES BOSTON GLOBE....their just fishing for bailout money and since they're owned by Obama they would have no problem with the strings attached. WOMEN TEXTING WHILE DRIVING... simple cure..break her thumbs and I'm sure it won't happen again RED LIGHT CAMERAS....if they were really for safty concerns then just put promently displayed fake cameras & their cheaper when some one shoots them up & they do the job. SHOOTER AFRAID OF GUN BAN....does this fact have anything to do with the killings? I heard he was also afraid Obama was going to ban fudge ripple icecream and the color chaurtruse.Maybe thats why he snapped.
  • The only important issue today is
    LEGALIZE POT NOW!!!

    Actually, I'm all for it.

    Here dude, (cough), wanna hit?
  • missle defense in Czech..
So Neal are you fine then with Russia building a missle defense sheild in Mexico?
  • formulas do not cause collapses....
    People do!
There is also an interesting article 2 months ago in Wired about the hedging formulas used by banks which might be the same person but this article is much more detailed

As for the gun shootings, these definitely rise and fall by the person in the Presidential office, just my opinion.
  • make up your mind
you said, Score one for Obama, in that he wanted the missile defense for europe.

in another, you said that taxes would go up.

i guess you don't mind if our taxes go to the military. it not even OUR military, its the EU military.

the EU, which make as much money as the US, would not afford it. i didn't say they could not it afford, but the would not afford it. why should they, they've got the US government to pay for it, you know how, with our taxes.

i guess you want the cold war to get going again, don't you?

are you sure you a libertanian? it don't look like it.
  • Government Hiring
Wonder if the government is hiring any whites?
  • Boycotting
I will be buying a new car this year and have decided to boycot the auto companies that took a bailout.

That leaves me with one American choice. FORD.

I know there are people who don't like Ford cars for one reason or another and if it wasn't for the bailouts I would probably buy another brand but in order to make a point, I refuse to buy from any company that a took a bailout. They soak us with their outrageous prices then want us to bail them out when they go under.
