The Senate has voted to use revenues from cap-and-trade auctions to pay for higher gas and electricity prices .. I assume this will be limited to "poor" people.

Rick Wagoner got the boot from Obama in order to "start a new vision" .. why didn't the UAW's Ron Gettelfinger get "a new start" as well?

More than half of Americans do not support Obama's plan to bail out troubled banks.

Lawmakers in Washington want to end the travel ban to Cuba. This one won't go down without a fight.

Did you really think that every single penny of this economic stimulus package was actually going to be used to stimulate the economy and not wasted on pork projects?

Here are some more details of Obama Motor's government guarantee. Speaking of which, someone has created a mock phone call to the White House's auto warrantee department.

What are politicians having the taxpayers cough up the cash for their car payments? Needless to say, they aren't worried about your wallets.

A science advisor to Hillary Clinton says that there are too many people living on our planet.

Mark Steyn quickly highlights what happens when people slip from government "investing" to government control.

Here's an article from Forbes magazine explaining how our government has gone wild.

Just what we need .. air pollution monitors around our government schools. It's the kid's minds that are being polluted, not their lungs.

Residents in Washington are having to smuggle dishwashing detergent from Idaho because of local laws which ban detergents that actually work .. because of their effect on the environment.

Did you know that the taxpayers are funding government education experiments like teaching 4th and 5th graders in Baltimore City about a career in transportation technology?

What happens when a school in Canada installs an illegal cellphone jammer?

A redneck DUI.

What others are saying

  • Too Many People?
The argument about 100 square feet fitting trillions of people on the planet is completely bogus. It's not area, it's resources. We are using about 25 per cent of the earth's biological productivity to feed just us. You like to hunt or walk in the woods? Better save some room for nature. Also, you need emergency reserves. If we utilize 100 per cent of the earth's productivity to feed the maximum number of people, and have a drought, then what? Then there's water. How's your water supply situation in Atlanta, Neal? Sorta makes you wish the state had bought some first rate surveying equipment 150 years ago, dunnit? Then your state line wouldn't miss the Tennessee River by 200 yards. Atlanta's water problem is what happens when you cram too many people into an area lacking the resources. Of course you're all planning to live in town because you like lots of people around so much, right? How's traffic where you live? Just remember, traffic jams mean more people and more customers. Here's an equation you can take to the bank: POPULATION = REGULATION. If you want the minimal government we had 150 years ago, we're going to have to go back to the population density we had 150 years ago. And nobody has to "sacrifice." Just stop breeding like hamsters.
  • Population Growth and Global Warming
Obviously, Pop Growth has equated to global warming.

Perhaps the democrats idea of controlling the global warming would be a "good war" maybe even a nuclear war so we can have a little "winter" effect.

Afterall, lets not waste a good crisis.

    Peace / Out
  • MS Bridge
I believe I read somewhere that the microsoft bridge was originally supposed to be 75%MS/25% city funding. The feds pulled out the pocketbook and so the city decided that they could get out of paying which means it's now 50/50 MS/fed gov't. If someone could confirm that that'd be great.

It doesn't sound like a totally wasteful project. The bridge will remain in good times as well, and will provide traffic relief to the area. If only Atlanta had better traffic management (or at least better mass transit) so you won't be parked on the interstate twice a day.
  • Sen Stevens
Don't know how many of you are keeping up, but due to prosecutorial misconduct, all charges are being dropped against him. It's a shame that some people are so busy trying to make a name for themselves that they throw a wrench into the wheels of justice.
  • Lawyers
I hate to say it but, your website is not nearly as entertaining as it once was. The optical illusion is too tame, I don't see the redneck scrapbook anymore and Boo Got Shot is much harder to find than it used to be. I'm guessing that you've turned your site over to the Lawyers and they've decided that your site was much too risque. Someone might be offended.
  • Too many people, too few supporters
I agree with Betty. I personally have no kids, but I am educated and have a nice job (for now). Unfortunately, like most of you, my taxes are paying for so many others who feel it is their right to just go out and make babies that they can't afford. We can't blame it on lack of birth control anymore, since that has been free from our controlling government for many years now.

Another kudos to government education: I have two nieces. Both dropped out of school some time in their high-school years. Both of which got pregnant before the age of 18. Neither of which is educated (obviously) or holds any type of full time job. One of them just had another baby at the age of 22! There are no fathers here either. Those guys were long-gone when this whole process started. All five of those human beings (and that's just in my small family) are counting on the rest of us to pay their rent, food, heat, etc. They have NO CLUE what financial responsibility is. They were never taught that in school I guess, at least not before they dropped out.

I am all against government control, but perhaps it is time to propose a minimum age and education level before keeping a baby. I know that sounds crazy and controlling, but perhaps they should start teaching these teens about the large cost associated with having and raising children BEFORE they drop out of school!

Teach them that if they don't get pregnant, they will be able to afford a new BMW by the age of 24. That way it will be put in terms they can understand (maybe).
  • To Betty
    Betty,
I would not like living in 100 sf either. My point was to merely give a mental picture of how little available space we people take up. Your points were not only informative but right on.

    With lovr from tough love.
  • population control
    I agree.
Those who are truly concerned (I'm not) should go out into the fields, lie down, and simply let go of life, leaving their bodies to return to the earth whence they came.
Have you ever noticed that, when something like this comes up, the most vigorous proponents always want someone else to make the sacrifices?
    Hmmmm.

    troll
  • Travel to Cuba
It's way past time that the ban was lifted. It should never have been instituted in the first place since it only served to solidify Castro's power.
It showed the Cuban people that they didn't need the US, that they could get financial support from Russia.
The ban was only instituted at the behest of former Bautista cronies who hoped to strangle Castro economically and regain their power.

  • Where am I?
I don't even recognize this place anymore.

Oh and Rick, Is Is, that's 2 for you LOL!!!
  • hil's science advisor
Does anyone remember Logan's Run? Reach a certain age and the government comes along to scoop you up and take you to your eternal dirt nap.
  • Population
The problem with population growth is that a large percentage of the babies born are not born to people who can take care of them. Therefore a minority of the people are supporting the majority of the people. Who wants to live in 100 square feet. The resources to feed all these people are taking up most of the space in the world. And most of them are not contributing anything to their own upkeep. They think the fact that they can breed makes them entitled to a living.
  • Crowded planet
Only place on this planet too crowded is Washington, D.C. Since this bunch don't like our Constitution, let's send them to another planet and see how quickly their stupid Marxist ideas fail.
  • Isn't organic also the way the did stuff in the 19th century?
"A science advisor to Hillary Clinton says that there are too many people living on our planet."

She balks at critics of genetic crops as "going back to the 19th century". What do you think organic is? A return to our "agrarian-based society" and refusal to use modern pesticides/fertilizers. Care to show me the difference?
  • How many senators and congressmen running for reelection in 2010 realize that proposed cap & trade's economic effect on energy prices will become the breaking issue during their campaign?
  • Microsoft Bridge
$11 million, which covers the cost of the materials, grading, etc. in addition to the labor, which, according to Redmond Mayor John Marchione.

If the entire cost went to labor, $11 million/400 jobs = $27,500 over 18 months. Over a year, that would be $18,333 ($27,500 * 2/3). Considering only the payroll taxes for social security and medicare, the gross pay per worker is $17,030. Over 2080 hours in a full-time year, that comes to a bit less than $8.19 an hour. And, again, this excludes all materials, grading, engineering, etc. Just another politician pissing on our feet and calling it rain.
  • cap and trade
when america get there gas bills in 2012, there going to be in for a prize. the prize is what do you like more: the gas you need to heat your home, or the food you need to feed your family.

wear can you go for help? nowhere. because the people who you wanted to help you out, have already helped helped out their voters.

the voters are the global warming crowd. of course our represtatives don't give a rat's ass what becomes of the citizens...
  • Too Many People?
Let's use some simple math to put the worlds population into perspective. There are approximately 6 billion people in the world. Give all of them a 10'x10' (100 sf)area to occupy. That means we would need 600 billion sf to accomplish this. There are 27,878,400 sf in a square mile. Simple division tells us that we would need 21,522 square miles to accomplish this. This means that the world's population could have 100 sf each and all fit in the state of West Virginia.
Please tell me how we are running out of room on this planet. I think liberals really mean they don't think they can effectively control every aspect of the lives of this many people.
I wonder what they have in mind for the excess population if they ever get total control?

    With love from Tough Love.
  • Cell phone "rights"
Where in the Canadian constitution does it state they have a right to use a cell phone?

Right to free speech I understand, they can still speak all they want, just not using a cell phone.
  • Too Many People
Perhaps Dr. Nina Federoff, the Jenny-ass "science" adviser in question, will be first to set an example for the rest of us,and voluntarily leave the planet ahead of schedule.
  • FAIR...Yeah ok...
The idiot politician in Washington State concerning the Microsoft bridge said "The United States taxpayer is leveraging their dollars, and I think everyone is getting a fair deal." I guess we have to define the meaning of FAIR. It reminds me of "Well that depends on what the definition of IS IS".
  • Too many people living on Planet Earth
No worries, Shwartzenfuhrer Uhhhhbama will solve that by letting Iran acquire Nuclear weapons.
  • Too Many People
Not to worry, Government Healthcare will undoubtedly help lower the number of our population within its first 5-10 years.
  • Rights
Regarding the kids in Canada with the cell phones. Yeah it might be a pain in the neck for the school board and kids could definitely be doing themselves a favor by giving their best in school, but it's at least a positive sign that the youngin's up there know their rights and when those rights have been violated. Too bad a large part of America seems to have no idea that their rights are being stripped from them in plain sight.
  • Too Many People on the Planet
Neal, people can't have it both ways. You can have universal healthcare that promotes longevity and then complain about too many people. I guess the "advisor" didn't think anyone would take notice of the contradiction.
  • Cell phone jammer
The school should get a waiver for the jammer & designate a certain area of the school that is unaffected by the jammer where they can use their phones. This way they can call their parents or whoever so their "rights" are not trampled on. If it is a small area (similar to a smoke hole) then it can be monitored & truant kids can be herded back to class.
  • Cell Phone Jammer
Regarding the Cell Phone Jammer. I read the article and the comments on the story web site. It amazes me that people forget that 20 years ago, there were no cell phones. If kids don't have a cell phone, it is NOT the end of the world. My Mother or Father never had to call me and let me know they were coming to "pick me up". We used the far more archaic method of actually planning and coordinating the pick up point and time. In other words, we actually talked to each other. They need to tighten this school up. You can't use a jammer- fine. The child gets caught with a cell phone, confiscate it for the entire year. That is what teachers did when I was in school. If an emergency happens, the principal's office still needs to know. Call the office, and let them know.
