Finally, over a week later, the United Nations condemned North Korea's missile launch. The Security Council also said that it will expand sanctions and demanded the end of missile tests.

Obama eased restrictions allowing Americans to make unlimited trips to Cuba and transfer money to family on the island.

Are you really buying this line that work from the economic stimulus bill is coming in "ahead of schedule and under budget?" Yeah, I didn't think so.

A lot of people are upset that Barack Obama is considering boycotting the UN's international conference on racism.

Where are Gitmo detainees going to end up? Some think it may be Virginia.

A bloc of Islamic countries want to set up their own "independent human rights commission."

Will tax refunds help boost the economy in the coming months? Not as likely, given this economy.

Howard Dean is back in action, and he is using the limelight to promote government healthcare.

How do Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats plan on going after legal gun owners in America? Princess Nancy just wants them all registered.

Get out the pitchforks. The CEO of Exxon got a 10% raise in 2008.

Sad news for you warmers ... Al Gore's TV company, Current Media, has had to cancel plans for a 100-million-dollar IPO.

Someone is finally getting it .. two Florida lawmakers are pushing to end the practice of wasting taxpayer dollars on public art.

When you see a headline like, "White House Reaches Out to DC's Troubled Schools," the first thing that pops into my mind is allowing the DC voucher program to continue. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

How much money are illegal aliens costing the taxpayers of Florida every year? If you guessed a billion dollars ... keep guessing.

California is considering a bill that would limit the amount of time children in day cares that receive state funds could play video games, watch TV or be on the computer.

Vermont is considering a bill that would make it legal for teenagers to engage in "sexting" with each other.

What others are saying

  • gun registration
You will take my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hand...If I don't shoot you first!
  • There's enough outrage to go around, Rick!
There's plenty to go around. I was commenting on the article about Exxon's CEO getting a raise not anything to do with Fannie or Freddie!
  • sle Defense - Defense against thugs
Its incredibly ironic that just after the recent North Korean launch of its lastest version of Taepodong 2 "missile", Secretary of Defense Robert Gates anounced that the US will be scaling back its efforts at developing new and improved missle defense technology. Say What?

While Gates has considerable "gravitas" as defense secretary given his term in the Bush cabinet and his conservative background, this marks one of the greatest 180 degree moves in military tactics in the face of the mounting nuclear missle threat posed by rogue nations such as North Korea, Iran, and lately Pakistan. Has it escaped Gates' and Obama's notice for instance that this latest launch was yet another volley right over the airspace of the world's second most powerful nation, Japan?

Japan's current constitution, which was forced on it after WWII by General Douglas MacArthur acting as its military ruler, "forbids it" from having an "offensive military" capability. How long do you think the Japanese people / government will stand by and watch North Korea engage in further antics like this latest rogue launch while the US appears to be significantly waning in providing a "protective umbrella" for them?

Its been estimated that Japan as a nuclear nation has the resources and technology to build fully reliable nuclear tipped missles in only 6-9 months. That relatively simple move on the part of the Japanese would significantly upset the balance of power in the region which is a real concern for our enemy Communist China. While China may be concerned about such a prospect given Japan's militarist past, they seem intent at the moment to allow North Korea to act as their virtual proxy to cause mischief mostly to the US, apparently to test its resolve.

This latest action by the US sends all the wrong signals to both our allies and our enemies. It says to our allies that the US really can't be counted on to defend either Japan or Europe as we have committed to since the advent of the Cold War threat posed by the Soviet Union and China. It says to our enemies that the US is weak and would rather "talk" to them about their misbehaviour and issue strongly worded protest statements to the UN Security Council than to take some strong action to deter and/or stop their provocative moves.

"Because, really, who better to face down a Holocaust denier with a messianic complex than the guy who is
afraid of a debate moderated by Brit Hume?".. Ann Coulter - writer / satirist
  • please, i already know who's gonna win in 2012 - Barack Obama. I'm setting my eyes on 2016. I got through 8 years of Bush and his out of control spending, I'll get through 8 years with this nut-case.
No one - and I mean - NO ONE will beat the Messiah. The media won't let it happen. We might as well get over it. And if Newt runs, that's when we're gonna see a true landslide for Obama....
  • Rick Perry
I hear a man starting his run for the presidency in 2012.
  • Cuba
I am all for easing restrictions on Cuba. We trade freely with China and Russia. Why is Cuba so different? Is its human rights record any worse than than China or Vietnam?

Yes, they had missiles that could hit the US. 1) That was almost 50 years ago and 2) we traded with the country that supplied the missiles (and trade with its descendant nation).

A small group of Cubans, primarily in Miami, along with the sugar industry seem to be the ones behind the continued sanctions.

Let's have more free trade. Let's open Cuban markets to our products and our markets to Cuban products.
  • Art
It's about time we stopped wasting money on art. Almost all art purchased for state buildings is hideous. Why don't they just start buying everyone's garbage. That would stimulate the economy just as much!
  • sexting
Vermont is interested in making "sexting" legal because the majority of sexting is being committed by teenage girls who would normally be convicted of engaging in "child pornography" production/distribution. Unfortunately in the current climate where "men=bad/women=good", US Society can't possible hold women-children accountable for their pig-like behavior- hence, the solution is to legalize/encourage/enable an otherwise illegal offense committed by women-children. If the majority of offenders committing said offense were men, it would of course be considered a felony- just look at all the double-standards associated w/ Domestic Violence & statutory rape.
  • Home Land Security Internial Letter
Neal Please post the HLS internal Letter on line, I would Love to have a copy.
  • Ahead of shcedule and under budget
    Yeah right!

Any project planned today will need at lease 12 months for companies to come up with their proposals -- usually longer -- then more months while the local gov't puts in their two cents, then more time while the companies re-write their bids to accommodate the local requests, then more for the approval process, then more while the area gets set up, people get hired for or re-assigned to the project, funding gets actually put in place instead of just talk of the funding . . . .

TARP funds will hit the economy in three years, at the soonest. Four or five is more reasonable.

If you hear of something that is funded by TARP and is starting today, you can be sure it wasn't funded by TARP. Every project that this admin has claimed to help with TARP funds began at least two years ago, and some as long as ten years ago, because they were already laid out in a long-term package of planned improvements.

Does anyone remember Halliburton? Remember how Bush skipped the bidding process, which the Dem's were fine with until they thought that they would get more points by hating it?

The truth is, Halliburton got the contract because they were one of the few, if not the only, company that could provide services tomorrow, as opposed to four years from now, like you'd need if you wanted to go the normal route.

And yes, Halliburton is still over there, still doing the job, and no, there are no plans to replace them, because anyone who can do the job (and there are not very many) doesn't want the political BS.
  • Pelosi
    Pelosi ... insanity wearing lipstick!
Look what the drug culture dragged in.
  • Vermont
Frankly, what Vermont does is the problem of the citizens of Vermont. I really don’t care what any state’s legislature does except the State of Georgia’s. The real problem is that states have given up their Constitutional authority and allow themselves to become beholden to Federal money and all the required stipulations mandated by the Congress or the federal bureaucracy.
  • Art
Have you read the comments in the "Art" story? Aparently, without hideous, government subsidized crap, society will collapse, the moon will explode, and dogs and cats will sleep together. Here is what people aren't getting about the American dream, it includes the real risk of failure. There are no guaranties.
  • @By Rick @ 04/14/09 09:33:36 AM
Hate to interrupt your rage against the left-wing wacko machine but how do you reconcile leading conservative Mitch McConnell's outrage over AIG bonues with your overly simplistic right-wing rhetoric? Bad hair day?
  • Just wait...
Maybe Obama will go in and fire the CEO of Exxon!

Oh and so now we are going to be able to send money to Cuba? I'm sure they were doing it illegally before but now the flood gates will open. Let's stimulate their economy why don't we?
  • Michael where's your outrage...
You are right about Exxon. But where is the government and left-wing wacko outrage over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac paying out 210 Million in bonus's? Both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taken into receivership by the Government (aka: out tax dollars). Perhaps there isn't any outrage because, Left-wing wacko's don't consider the government wasting our tax dollars as a bad thing, or is it because the people running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are big supporters of Liberal Politicians?

So it is a BAD thing for AIG to give out 160 Million in bonus's and it is perfectly fine for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to give out 210 Million in bonus's. This seems to be the mode thinking for the Left.
  • Sexting laws
    You can't legislate morality.
    That's the job of parents.

It's just another way of government intruding into the lives of citizens.
  • Get out the pitchforks. The CEO of Exxon got a 10% raise in 2008.
No one cares about it Neal. Did Exxon receive a welfare check last year? Don't think so.
