OH YEAH .. THIS IS GOING TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY

And speaking of stimulus. Joe Biden announced that $2.3 billion in federal stimulus money is going to be spent on child care programs and to help the "less fortunate" get vaccinated.

Again, my question remains: how in the hell is the economic stimulus?

The money will go to the Child Care and Development Fund that can help states pay for child care for parents who are working, looking for work or going to school. The concept of these people actually funding their own means of child care is not an option .. because it doesn't make them dependent on government. And Joe Biden says that these parents "shouldn't have to worry about finding affordable, quality day care." Why shouldn't they have to worry about it? It is their child! This child does not belong to the government. The parents chose to bring this child into the world and therefore should be responsible for taking care of it, and that includes finding a dang babysitter. It is not the government's job to provide you with a babysitting service.

Oh and the other part of this announcement included $300 million to help the "less fortunate" get vaccinated. Don't ya just love that phrase .. the less fortunate? It implies that somehow, you are able to pay for your own vaccinations because you are lucky. And that person over there, they can't afford it because they have been unlucky. Therefore the government should pay to help them in their misfortune.

And part of this money will also be used to educate people about the importance of getting their shots. Again, my question: how is educating people on the importance of getting shots going to stimulate our economy? Seems like a simple question, considering this was included in an "economic stimulus" bill.

End result? A few more people are added to the list of those who believe that their health care is the responsibility of the government. That's the goal here ... government dependency. Nothing less.

What others are saying

  • More Excuses
More excused to pull the wool over the public's eyes all in the name of 'stimulus' give me a break
  • Vaccinations kill the economy!
Vaccinated kids get sick less frequently = drug industry suffers, doctors suffer, hospitals suffer, morgues suffer!
  • Free vaccinations
Last time I checked, the state gave vaccinations to school children whose parent's couldn't afford them.
  • CL and assumptions
"Ahhh, the old fact-free "most likely" argument!" by Copy

Well let's see a little deductive reasoning here then. If they AREN'T on welfare would they need the government to pay? Hmmmm I'm betting no.

All children are required to be vaccinated to attend school. Let the parents pay for it.

Flu shots are $20 to $30, anyone WORKING can afford that to keep from losing work. If you are not working, then you are staying home not infecting anyone.
  • vaccination
They are already free for children. To play devils advocate...the government requires children to be vaccinated in order to attend all colleges (and government schools)-so if someone can't afford it, it must be given because we all know education is a right, not a privilege. (that is sarcasm-btw)
  • Productivity = Stimulous???
Ok Copy...I'll yield the floor to you to explain to me how in the world some person, whose income is so low that they have to receive government assistance, can stimulate the economy by being more productive because they didn't miss as many days due to them or their child being sick. This is what you suggested - not my words. Re-read your response if you're not clear.

FWIW - every company I have ever worked for had a threshold for days off (sick days). And typically, anything greater than 40 hours (5 days) used in a year wasn't looked upon too keenly at performance review time. The point here is that regardless of what the government provides you or you child, miss enough days and you're toast. Maybe you're one of "the fortunate" ones who can come & go when you please, I dunno. Anyhow....

The notion that anyone who works at Wal Mart or Burger King or Target or summat, who goes to work one or two or three days MORE a year because the government provided daycare or whatever, that that will some how stimulate the economy is absurd and you know it.

The people we are talking about have never, and will never, stimulate the economy. Not because they don't contrubute or don't spend, but because they never make the amount of money necessary to buy, in large quantities, the frivolous (for lack of a better word) items that drive the economy - i.e. travel trailers and $50K boats.

The harsh reality is that we are a consumer based society/economy. And just buying the "necessities" such as food & gas & clothing does not DRIVE our economy. It is the conspicous consumption that drives it. And the folks you alledge would be more productive with less days off, never generate enough income to MOVE the economy. You need to do some research as to what income bracket in this country really does all the buying.
  • I want the Botox
Forget vaccinations... I want the same Botox plan that Biden and Copyleft are on. The Vulcan look is just kickin. Any plan for a stimulus on this?

And you want to talk about productivity. Wait till I stare down some clients with that look.
  • To: Claudia
Ahhh, the old fact-free "most likely" argument!

Like Neal's claim that the government is buying cars it "probably" doesn't even need, right?

Yes, it's much better to make assumptions without any attempt to learn the facts. That way your pre-determined beliefs can never be wrong!

Is it any wonder that right-wingers have been losing both elections and importance lately?
  • Vaccinations
Oi Copyleft you are a moron.
Most likely the people who want those free vaccinations are people who live on welfare, so explain to me how THAT is stimulating the economy?? all they are doing is sucking up more money from US the tax payers!!

Guess you are just too idiot to figure that one out....
  • CL
and your earlier comment also had nothing to do with whether this is stimulus or not just whether you thought it was good for the unfortunate. SO, my objections. And yeah I pretty much object to what lefties say cause most of what they say is crap! Not gonna change my beliefs just cause they happen to be in power AT THE MOMENT. There will not be any eight years.
  • Here Comes Socialist America
All Democrats should move to a Communist country and see what it is like to be "Coddled" by the Government
  • @ copylaft
I firmly believe that you are Boortz, just writing with an alias to tick people off. Surely no one would really be this dense without it being some kind of act.
  • I am willing to pay for "herd immunity"
I have nothing good to say about government sponsored day care or about "the unfortunate". However, if they're gonna spend my money anyway, vaccines are fine with me! The more folks who are vaccinated, the greater protection for those who are unvaccinated (some for good medical reasons), whose vaccines didn't take (does happen!), etc. Vaccines actually do protect us all (just as universal *good* education would . . . I know vaccines have a better track record than public schools! )
  • Wrong, Joyce
Neal's point was that he couldn't see any CONNECTION between vaccination and economic recovery--not how it was being paid for.

As I pointed out, the connection is obvious... to anyone not blinded by knee-jerk hostility to anything Democrats say and do, of course.

ODS: Gonna be diagnosing it for the next eight years, hope we find a cure....
  • What's a sick day?
There are days that I go to work. They're names are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday (and sometimes, Sunday).

There are days that I don't feel well. If I don't feel well and it's a work day, I go to work. If I don't feel well and it's not a work day, I'm angry because I don't feel well.
  • Vaccinations
In most states kids can get free vaccinations regardless of income through the state. Also, the pharmaceutical companies will provide free vaccinations to poor kids as well.
If a kid doesn't get proper healthcare this day in age, it is a reflection on how crappy the parent is and not a financial decision.
  • Copy
Are YOU really that stupid? The point is why should taxpayers pay for it!!! Geesh
  • Wow...
Are you guys really dumb enough to see no connection between sick days and economic productivity?

Sheesh, that's pathetic. So if poor people get sick less often and can work more... if their kids get sick less often so their parents don't have to take as much time off... you DON'T SEE how this has anything to do with the economy?

Yikes. Go back to school, folks; your ignorance is showing.
  • Vaccinations
I thought vaccinations for kids were free. All you have to do is go to the health dept. Was for me when I was a kid they came around to the schools. I only had to take my daughter to the health dept for her vaccinations. What the heck are they talking about?
  • Child care
Shades of Jimmy Carter. Back in the 70's I worked with a black girl who I liked by the way. However she and her husband owned a house and two new cars and were getting free day care.
  • "less fortunate"
"Oh and the other part of this announcement included $300 million to help the "less fortunate" get vaccinated. Don't ya just love that phrase .. the less fortunate? It implies that somehow, you are able to pay for your own vaccinations because you are lucky."

Well, in this case, we're talking about children who weren't lucky enough to be born to responsible parents. That actually is a case of luck.
  • Child Care
I thought the round the clock school would take care of this?

    asinine

And I don't wanna hear "you try getting a job with 3 kids at home". YOU had the kids, don't ask me to pay for your child care. My mom did it with no help from my deadbeat dad or the government.
