OBAMA'S RESPONSE TO THE TEA PARTIES

Yesterday was quite a day for a lot of you who are fed up with our current levels of spending and waste. So maybe you weren't able to catch the president's reaction to the tea party protests.

Obama's response was that he had already delivered the most "progressive tax cut in history, with 95% of families getting a tax break in every pay check." Now for most of you who attended some sort of protest or rally yesterday, this explanation should infuriate you because you know the truth. You know that Barack Obama has not cut taxes for 95% of Americans. It's a calculated lie. Over 40% of those people don't pay income taxes in the first place? You know better, folks. Obama has changed the American language in many ways. He calls the war on terror an "overseas contingency operation." He calls acts of terror "man caused disasters." Now he's calling government handouts to people who do not pay income taxes "tax cuts." The media, of course, lets him get away with this. His "progressive" tax cuts are what have people up in arms to begin with - the achievers in this country are being taxed at rates that will eventually lead to a giant shrug.

By the way ... under Obama's definition our tax code is an act of terror on the American people. Nobody can deny that our tax code is a man-caused disaster. As such it is, by definition, an act of terrorism against the American people. Nice.

Obama says that Americans need a "government that is working to create jobs and opportunity for them, rather than simply giving more and more to those at the very top in the false hope that wealth will trickle down."

No, no and hell no. It is not the role of the government to create jobs for people. There is this little thing called the private sector that is far more capable of providing jobs for people. But the more you tax the small business owners and the entrepreneurs and the evil rich ... the more jobs government is going to create, because it is squeezing out the private sector! Also ... and do I really need to say this? ... the government doesn't "give" to those at the very top. Those at the very top EARN. They ACHIEVE? The government doesn't GIVE to them .. the government TAKES from them .... And then gives to those at the bottom and call it tax cuts.

Finally, Obama says, "We start from the simple premise that we should reduce the tax burden on working people, while helping Americans go to college, own a home, raise a family, start a business and save for retirement." In other words, Obama wants to reduce taxes on the middle class while providing handouts to ensure that people can do to college and own a home.

What others are saying

  • big government and higher taxes huge debt
Those who believe obama doesn't get it. You're wrong he does get it; he just doesn't care. C.K.
  • Fair Tax
To Timmy: You're right it is an excuse. A few million of the American people marching on Washington would get their attention. The problem is how many of us can afford to do it? Those that are lucky to still have a job can't afford it and those who have lost their jobs are trying to find work. I believe obama knows he has the American people between a rock and a hard place. So far he's had everything go his way. The one thing we have left is our vote when the time comes that's if we are still allowed that privilege. We need more tea parties say right around voting time. Like so many others my husband( who is retiring this year and half our retirement gone)and I are very scared. Those who voted for obama are in for a big disappointment. At the end of the next four years I fear we will not recognize our beloved USA.
  • ...
to think that these republicans and these democratic officials actually care for you is laughable. i want everyone of you to get your heads out of your asses. Its Righty pointy fingers at lefty. Its Lefty pointy fingers at righty. Presidents from both sides spending billions of dollars. Do you see a pattern? Do you think these people are here to serve your best interests?? Nothing is gunna change, unless our entire governmental system gets a rehaul. Tobad it will never happen, unless the people actually wage war against our government. But even if it were to happen, all these new politicians would end up being just as curropt as the ones before them. The never ending vicious cycle of democracy.
  • Tax Cuts & Fair Tax
I am amazed, how many people are still not getting it! Obama spends our money like there is no tomorrow!
I came from Germany some 20 Years ago ( and yes, people, I am a legal resident, paid for with my own money! I worked for it!).
I came here because I believed and still do America is the greatest country in the world!
You have the freedom to create your own destiny. If you choose to get of your butt, and work to create whatever you want to be, in America you have the liberty to do it.
But YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT!
If you choose to sit on your couch, that most likely somebody else paid for, and wait for your welfare check, than to it, BUT DO NOT EXPECT ME TO WORK MY A.. OFF THAT YOU CAN KEEP WATCHING YOUR SOAP OPERAS.

I am all for the Fair Tax, because it makes everybody contribute, even the illegals, and God forgive me, also the "less fortunate"!
    "Less Fortunate" MY A**!
In Germany we do NOT have this word. Our word is "Mooch" here is the definition: Someone who wants something for free .. someone who takes and takes but doesn't give back.

I guess I am one of those "right wing extremists" now... Ok, but I am an angry one!

To copyleft, I don't understand. Why don't you get it?
  • Where we're going wrong
I am really starting to believe these tea parties are actually organized by the LEFT, as a truly insidious and nefarious scheme. Hear me out.

These tea parties focus on taxes. The liberal media claims the tea parties are all about too much taxation -- that they are tax protests. Even the connection with the Boston tea party -- which WAS a protest against taxation -- seems to support this claim. And the liberal media is READY for that argument, as they keep reminding us about the 'tax cuts for 95% of Americans'. They make us look like morons for complaining about higher taxes.

But the protests aren't ABOUT taxes. Or they shouldn't be, anyway. They should be about two things -- too much government spending, and too much government power. They should be about the government trying to nationalize banks and other businesses, leading us down the path to socialism. THOSE are the real issues we're upset about.

And yet the focus has become TAXES. It's almost as if the Democrats themselves secretly started this 'tea party' idea, as a way of diverting us from the REAL debate. Because they have a persuasive (if illusory) argument on the taxation issue, but they have NO leg to stand on when the debate focuses on spending and the race to socialism in America.

Let's get back to what it's REALLY all about. Don't let liberals sidetrack us!
  • Distorted View
The government does "GIVE" a lot to the rich, much more than the poor or middle class. Look at Neal Boortz. The FCC regulation of the airwaves is what makes his job possible. Or look at a large company (and the top shareholders and executives), who makes millions because of the availability of public roads while most people earn a tiny fraction. That's why they should pay higher taxes (as well as because they are able to pay higher taxes without incurring the same real loss).

Also, a significant portion of government spending is directly transferred to large corporations and the extremely rich through government contracts.

Now, the government does provide some services that benefit the poor (who don't benefit at all from most of what the government does) more than others, but they are relatively small.

The middle class tends to benefit from a lot of what the government does, but not nearly as much as the wealthy and extremely rich.

Medicare and Social Security are quite large, but they aren't paid for by the federal income tax.
  • Nah!
    They just don't get it.
  • Fair Tax
I'm with Betty. I grew up expecting to work and be responsible for my own future. I paid dutifully into SS since I was 14. I worked my way through college twice, I've purchased 2 houses. and I've run a small business since 1983. Unfortunately, a disability I've been able to successfully work around for the past 30+ years has reached the point where I've had to request some of MY SS money back. Guess what? After over 3 years of waiting, and wiping out my money markets, stock portfolio AND my IRA's, I STILL don't have a date for my #@! disability hearing. Plus, at the rate Obama is spending the American Taxpayer's money who knows if there will even be any SS funds left by the time I get my hearing. The Fair Tax is needed to stop the government hemorrage type spending.

And, for those of you who snub your noses at "the poor", lighten up. Not all of us are multigenerational welfare recipients or lazy, ignorant bums. I for one am not in this situation by choice.
  • 95% Of what
If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.
    Adolf Hitler
  • RE: Samael
More of our reps are for the Fairtax than you may think.
    http://www.fairtax.org/cgi-bin/scorecard.cgi

And more than half of voters in this country are completely uninformed. This is why they are against it.
Information can be provided to people to change their minds. The majority of the American public is dumb, but anyone can see the benefits of the FairTax once someone sits them down and explains it.
I was against the FairTax the first time I heard Neal mention it. I wanted to go down to the station and punch Neal in the face, but I went and bought his book first. I read it, changed my mind and bought 20 more to hand out.
  • B@*#$%!*!!!
As juvenile as it sounds, I never get tired of the old 'fake sneeze' as a cover up for the expletive used to describe Manure that eminates from large Bulls and also can be used to declare what one thinks or feels about a point another is making. That would be 'B@*#$%!*!!!' I believe that would apply to the er...uh...'tax cuts for 95% of Americans'.I felt so much better writing that check which I'm sure will be used to give a 'rebate' to some deserving minimum wage earner. What a friend we have in Obama...I'd probably just put that money in my kids college fund or something stupid like that...or to help my grandkids pay for the 'Massive Spending Increase Act of 2009'.
  • To Samael
Your right, doing nothing is the right way to go. Let's let the next genration do the right thing. They're paying for it so they might as well(Can you sense my sarcasm?!?!!?). It has to start somewhere and I'd be damned proud if our current citizens were the ones to get The Congress to get their heads out off their 4th point of contact. I know it would be a long haul to accomplish this but the payoff would be astronomical.
  • The Next Step
    The Statists are running scared.

They know that their power base is built upon wealth seized the from taxPayers at the point of a gun. TaxPayers that are the achievers and producers who make this country work.

The next step will have to be a 'taxPayers Strike' to stop this insanity.

Interrupt their vote-buying revenue stream for even a short time period and they will really start screaming.
  • Payroll Taxes
Anyone catch the Democrat talking head on CNN argue that although they don't pay income tax, they still pay payroll tax? He implied that since they do so, they should get a rebate on income taxes. What a spin!!!!!!!!
  • OBAMA'S RESPONSE TO THE TEA PARTIES:
    "Let them eat cake."
    ---- Barry Hussein
  • Being rich - hard work, and often luck as well
Being rich cannot be solely attributed to hard work or education in many cases. If you happen to be in a profession that pays a lot. If you happen to have talent in American football instead of, say water polo. If you happen to get lucky and land an executive position at a large firm that pays 500 times their average wage. Thirty years ago that same job at the same firm might have paid 30 times the average wages. Being a famous talk show host pays more than, say being a famous game show host. These are all elements of luck that contribute to making some people "more fortunate" than other equally educated or hard-working people.
  • Timmy - I agree, but....
There are 535 Members of Congress: 435 Representatives in the House, and 100 Senators in the Senate. Out of those numbers, only a handful will even discuss the topic and fewer than that actually know what they are speaking of.

As much as I'd love the FairTax, there aren't enough representatives to get anything done and more than half the voters of this country don't want it.

That's just the reality of it.
  • Tea Parties
One thing the tea parties accomplished: The DHS now has about 500,000 additions to their list of potential right-wing terrorists.
  • Re: Obama's "response"
"In other words, Obama wants to reduce taxes on the middle class while providing handouts to ensure that people can do to college and own a home."

The trouble is, he's raising EVERYONE's taxes and spending trillions in taxpayer's money.
  • Dangerous words
"government that is working to create jobs and opportunity for them, rather than simply giving more and more to those at the very top in the false hope that wealth will trickle down"

    "giving more and more"

He makes it sound like it was the governments money to give and not RETURNING some of the money.
  • Some thoughts on responces
Stan - go back to school, a private school and learn about inflation. That and bankrupcy is where we are heading if we listen to this MORON!

Copyleft - Your a moron and by now I would have thought that you would get the hint. Were in the consitution does it give the government the right to take my money to buy you a home or send you to collage. I paid for my own home and collage education.
  • What tax break?
All Obama did is adjust the tax withholding tables...at the end of the day (I.E. when you file) you will still owe the same amount of taxes...and now that Obama is printing $$'s like a banana republic, we have a new tax coming (already up 0.4% in January alone), inflation...Inflation eats up everyone's buying power thus acting like a tax. To all the poor who voted for Obama, they're going to be in for a real surprise when their messiah becomes their master..their just desserts too I might add.
  • broken record
    for 95%*skip* for 95%*skip* for 95%*skip*

Ever notice obama says the same broken false statements over and over again? Ever notice the media never tries to investigate HOW this "95%" is generated and not just a made up statistic?

Did anyone notice that when Obama went to europe he carried not 1, 2 3 or even 4 teleprompters but TWELVE.

now I'm all about redundancy.. but when a man is NOTHING without being fed a speech written by someone else.. what does that make him?

    a PUPPET.

who are the people behind this puppet show?
  • Correction, the WH does still use the word "terrorism."
The latest OIA Assesment makes reference to, ."domestic rightwing terrorists," on Page 2.

The cover sheet says, "The information is
provided to federal, state, local, and tribal counterterrorism and law enforcement
officials so they may effectively deter, prevent, preempt, or respond to terrorist attacks
    against the United States."

    Telling, isn't it?
  • Most Progressive Tax Cut in History?
Obama's response... he has provided the most "progressive tax cut in history, with 95% of families getting a tax break in every pay check."

Hmmm, I seem to recall that when the 16th Amendment was finally rammed through, the initial tax rate was just 3% on those earning over $100,000 (well over a $1 million in today's $$$)

So how does PresBO get off claiming his was the most "progressive" tax cut in history?
  • Response
    1. Poor people don't want to be taxed when purchasing non-essentials --We are already paying an embedded tax; Fairtax has an incredibly progressive prebate to compensate for essentials.
    2. Majority of Americans are happy not having to pay federal taxes today --Most Americans would be ecstatic to take home their ENTIRE paycheck, not some fraction of it.
    3. We allowed the government to move from a Republic to a Democracy - So we must take it back.
  • Obama and "tax cuts"
I guess it is hard for someone who has NEVER worked in the private sector to understand how it works... it would be nice if Nobama took some Business classes and have a little understanding of the Private Sector and productivity

But yeah, like THAT is going to happen!!

Copyleft, of course you do not see anything wrong with the picture, you are not the one working hard and paying taxes, you just sit in your butt all day waiting for your welfare check to arrive
  • To Samuel
I'm sick of hearing reasons why the FAIRTAX won't work. It's an excuse to do nothing!!! IT WILL WORK IF WE MAKE IT WORK!!!! We have to get off our collective @SS's and go out and force them to do it by doing exactly what we did last night. A couple million people marching on Washington would open many eyes in this country. Sewing the LAME Stream media for malpractice would be a good start also. It's got to start somewhere and I'll think we are off and running now. Let's do this and make it happen!!!
  • obamas response shows what?
white house says that obama was not aware of the tea parties? There are only 3 possible explainations for this comment.#1-Obama is blind & incompetent to not"be aware" of the events. #2-Obama chose to ignore the events because to give them attention would make draw attention to the real problems. or#3- Obama's so arrogant that none of it matters, because after all,as he said to repubs in congress "I won" and he's just telling us to go pound sand.(I vote for #3)
  • giving....?
"government that is working to create jobs and opportunity for them, rather than simply giving more and more to those at the very top in the false hope that wealth will trickle down."

Who is "giving" anything to "those at the very top?" I was under the impression that people earned money through the fruits of their labor.

I think they do not understand how their own system works. You TAKE from the "rich" or producers, and give the poor or non-producers. Of course you would not give back what you take from the producers, we are not asking that you give it back, we are asking that you not take it in the first place. Here in America we like to think that we are entitled to the fruits of our labor. I know that does not make sense to people who do not labor, but I know if they would just try it out they would understand, and they would probably be a lot happier. It feels nice to work hard and earn. Sitting around and leaching off of other must be depressing.
  • Copyleft
Copyleft would you not agree that the decomposition in our Government is from politicians who want to remain in office and will do anything to stay there? There is no party difference here as we have Arlen Spincter here in Pa. He is a prime example of say or do anything for his preservation. I personally am waiting for a new party to form sending both of these bloated corrupt parties packing.
    SEMPER FI
  • Re: Clarification needed
I have two income household, with all of one income spent to pay my daughter's college tuition. I go to work even when I am ill to earn money to pay her tuition. At the same time I know another family where only one person works, while another chose to stay at home. This so called "unfortunate" family sends their child with full tuition paid, because they are "poor", and can not afford to pay that tuition.

They can get a loan, or start actually working themselves instead of robbing others from the fruits of their labor.
  • obama peeps at tea party
I told the very few of them that showed up to tell their guy obama thanks for the $10 extra a week so i can eat at mcdonalds.
Oh and Samuel...keep being so negative about the fairtax instead of supporting it and it WILL never get passed...
  • progressive?
So in His own words, the it is a 'progressive tax cut'. WTF does that mean? Since He is speaking legalese, I'll translate for you.

As the tax bracket goes up, the amount of the tax cut decreases, eventually becoming a negative value (i.e. tax increase).
  • The BIG picture....
    People WAKE UP!!!!

Every one keeps thinking of PERSONAL income tax. That is small peanuts!!!! The "TAXES" that are going to DROWN US are the hidden ones!!!

A 3% increase on the top 5% is just a carrot. (ignore the man behind the curtain) It fuels the envy machine.

When its all said and done, the only way to support these huge Gov't programs is to have huge hidden taxes.

Has anyone noticed that the present Gov't spending plan, is JUST like the "Housing bubble" that burst? If we just take a third mortgage, that will cover the other 2 and make our payments less......

Which part of "we can't borrow ourselves out of debt" do so many people not understand?
  • To Copy and Stan
    To Stan:

If you make more money....and you are taxed more....then Stan you are actually making less money. Don't let the math get in the way. If you made the same money but it was taxes less...well then you would take home more money. No one has said anything about pay going down.

    To Copy:

Its not the governments job to pay to send people to college or buy a home.

It's your own individual responsibility to do those two things. And when you are being taxed to death...you're right it is hard to do that on your own.

So lower taxes, take home more money and then buy yourself a home and send your self to college.

Liberals don't like that because then you actually have to work to get those things. The "unfortunate" won't have those things......
  • Why the FairTax will never Happen
    1. Poor people don't want to be taxed when purchasing non-essentials
    2. Majority of Americans are happy not having to pay federal taxes today
    3. We allowed the government to move from a Republic to a Democracy
    4. Lower income folks learned they can vote property away from others
    5. It becomes more difficult to increase taxes because everyone would know
    6. Not being able to raise taxes easily makes it more difficult for special interests to get through
    7. Elected officials would earn less money/perks from lobbyists
    8. Elected officials would lose the ability to modify behavior using taxes
    9. Elected officials would lose the ability to debate tax policy during campaigns
    10. Because it makes too much sense
  • College
The standards to get into college have been lowered to 0. A college degree is pretty much a piece of paper half the recepients can't even read. As far as I am concerned people who go to college should have to pass strict tests and no I wouldn't have been qualified then because of strict standards or now because of color.
  • CNN coverage
Saw Anderson Cooper on CNN besmirching the tax protesters with crude inuendo about "teabagging". Wow, this from the King of the "teabaggers". LOL
  • Working People
I guess, according to our president, people making over $250,000 are not "working people", or do not qualify as "working people"
  • Taxes
Wonder what the income of everyone who attended these protests was. If I could I would have attended one of them. My income is $896 a month SS. $176 a month from a pension and a small amount of interest of some CD's. I come from a generation that was not willing to sell their soul for a little freebie and I paid into SS since I was 18yr old.
  • Copyleft, here's the clarification:
There would be nothing wrong with those handouts (the operative word here)if the people who were doing it were handing out their own money. It's not charity and it's not ethical to take money from some by force and give it to others in the name of "fairness" or anything else.
  • Clarification needed
"In other words, Obama wants to reduce taxes on the middle class while providing handouts to ensure that people can do go college and own a home."

And...? Is Neal saying there's something wrong with this idea? If so, what? This is an entirely reasonable and sensible policy that all but the most retarded fringe of far-right loons would support as basic to our society.

Geez, no wonder the right can't figure out why they keep losing elections.
  • tax cut??
The only "cut" I have seen in my pay is a SMALL witholding deduction. Is that the "tax cut" Obama was talking about? If so, that is not the same as 'cutting taxes'.
  • More in the check does not mean taxes were cut
My check went up because of the change in withholding rules. Great, what happens come tax time? Have they also changed the income tax formula or am I just going to have to pay this back at the end of the year? Does anyone know the answer to that question? The accountants in my office had discussed the same thing and so far haven't found a corresponding change in the income tax formula.
  • Repubs hate America
Republicans are so concerned w/ the individual, they could do much better if they just listen to the President. I would much rather make more money overall and pay more in taxes to fix the economy than pay less taxes and make less money overall. But I am just a silly liberal that likes making the most money I can.
  • What Tax Break
If you mean that $6 a bi-weekly check I got, he hasn't impressed me. Guess I am to rich to count at 60k a year. I have yet to meet any one that got the $13. Lets see, I get paid bi-weekly, (26 paydays a year)26x$6=$156

WOW! COPYLEFT, HUGO, AWK, STAN GABLE---Join me in singing praise to OBAMA, why with this out pouring of money to stimulate the economy, why its like christmas in the spring!

    IT JUST KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • He just doesn't get
that we see through his lies.

Maybe he's just so used to sheeple that he doesn't know how to react to someone who can actually think for themselves.
