Hold up, aren't we technically still at the tail end of an ice age?

Doesn't a large amount of particulate matter in the atmosphere have more of a detrimental effect on the ecosystem? If you block the sun, it will get much cooler down here. Plant life will go on a serious decline, and that will raise CO2 levels.

Then again, this is yet another case of the Glorious Party completely tossing history out the window, isn't it?

I'm confused. I live in Michigan and it is still cold as crap here.
The big thing here is carbon dioxide. Don't trees need CO2? And then don't they give off oxygen for us? Wasn't that something I learned in second grade? Why are we planting more trees to save rainforests and combat global warming?
There is still plastic on my windows because Michigan can't decide if it's going to be winter still or not.

CO2 is .0016 percent of the gas in the atmosphere and is not the most heat retaining gas in it as a matter of fact water vapor is and lets not even go into the fact that the volcano's erupting right now in Alaska and Antarctica spew more CO2 and Sulfur Dioxide (a gas which by the way is about 100 times more heat retaining than CO2) than humans have in their entire history on Earth, these morons are going to screw around with the albedo (light reflection) of the Earth during what real scientists are saying is a low sunspot activity cycle which leads to cooling and cause an even worse cooling period, google snow ball Earth to see what can happen.

I like the comment that I read somewhere from another blogger who suggested that we first try this atmospheric experiment on the planet Venus first. If we can alter the temperature on Venus, we will have an actual idea of what we may expect if we were to do this to our home world.

The biggest problem is not the expense -- it is the risk of unintended consequences. Who knows what kind of irreversible damage we might cause with these schemes?

Throughout the history of planet Earth, the global climate has gone through many temperature changes. There were periods in Earth's past when it was cooler than today, and there were periods when it was warmer than today. The question that NO ONE has been able to answer, but needs to be answered is this: "What is the ideal temperature for the climate of Planet Earth?" Until this question can be answered, there cannot be any reasonable claims for either global warming or global cooling.

I am an Earth Science teacher at a rural high school in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and I can assure you that I am not indoctinating my students to believe in the fallacy of Anthropogenic Climate Change.

Seriously. To combat the machines, we blocked out the sun (they were solar powered). Then the machines one upped us and turned us into batteries. Seriously... You don't screw with the planet you are living on like he's talking about.

Oh... real science... Um.. last I checked the pollution at the lower levels locks in the heat from the sun. How does raising the pollution up to the upper atmosphere actually REFLECT sun light. The other problem is that UV light is actually more intense on cloudy days. UV is what gives you a sun burn. So... if UV can burn you, dontcha think that might raise the temp a bit more than we're supposedly doing now?

Please somebody tell him to get new science advisers!

What happened to protecting the more tangible aspects of our environment? Shouldn't we be more worried about the filth that Atlanta dumps into the 'hooch or the floating trashburgs in the Anacostia of DC. Look at the "holy" river Ganges in India those poor people bathe in. All the while we are trying to enter into internationalist laws based on a clearly flawed-by-politics science of atmospheric carbon and planet temperature. Get real Washington.

Mind you. I don't think we have a warming problem here.

However, if we in fact do, there are some other ideas floating around that sound a lot less expensive and also less dangerous than intentionally polluting the sky.

How about the idea of making the roads more reflective to bounce the heat back. This could be done through regular maintenance so the cost wouldn't be insane.

That's 1 of many ideas that have been batted around that seem more reasonable.

First, though. We need to stop with the hysteria and find out if a problem even exists or if this will self correct over time.

FYI ... I'm freezing my bottom off ever morning right now in San Antonio. Not seeing much evidence of warming through personal experience right now.

There are other things we can do. For example...
- Remember to take a hybid limo from the private airport where your G4 is parked to the Global Warming conference.
- Buy a bag of ice and MELT it.
- Put an extra ice cube in your Scotch. It will cool your drink. Every little bit helps.
- Switch from regular margharitas to frozen. The ice will melt. The earth will heal.
- Eat a cow.
- Date an 18 yr old. Actually, I don't know EXACTLY how this will help, but science doesn't have all the answers yet.
- Destroy the US economy with a series of ill-conceived, Keynesian-based, pork projects.
- Follow Al Gore's example and live in a house of less than 20,000 sq ft. Don't have more than 9 furnaces.
- Stand outside someplace holding a sign of some sort.

Perhaps others will have their own ideas. Maybe none of these things are the solution. The important thing is that we DO SOMETHING!
