I was glued to the Masters on TV when the text message came through: The Navy Seals have saved the day.

You know the story by now. Three Seal snipers on the USS Bainbridge coordinated their efforts and delivered three simultaneous head shots to the three Muslim pirates holding Captain Richard Phillips. I'm really looking forward to getting the details on this. The seas were getting rough and both the lifeboat and the Navy vessel were rolling on the seas when the shots were taken.

On Friday I said quit a bit on the air about the United States showing weakness: Weakness with Korea, and weakness in dealing with these Muslim pirates. Well, Obama came through. He told his military commanders to bring this episode to an end if they saw the means to do so. Obama said yes to a Pentagon request for standing authority to use appropriate force to save the life of the captain. We have to recognize that a failure of this mission would have been used against Obama ... so his decision showed courage. I was surprised. Pleasantly surprised.

Now we're getting reports that the Muslim pirates are really PO'd that actual force was used against them. They're vowing revenge against the United States and France? Why France? Because the French military killed a few Muslim pirates while rescuing hostages from a yacht the pirates had seized. One hostage was killed in that attack.

One regret. The head shots that killed the three pirates were simultaneous. This means that none of the Muslim goons got to see their buddy's heads explode. Oh well ... can't have everything, I guess.

Now its time for the shipping lines to do a bit more to defend and protect themselves so that the U.S. Military won't have to do the job for them. Hire Blackwater .. get mercenaries .. do something! But put some really mean and serious guards on these ships so that they can feed the sharks some more good, tasty Somali garbage.

What others are saying

  • Use fo time
"One more time. I've got better things to do than waste my time on you two."

That is almost always put forth by someone who probably doesn't....
  • Todd's "logic" and Alabamastan's "New Terrorists"
Todd - I am not denying the existence of terrorists before or after, I am merely asking where are all these newly minted terrprists and why aren't they attacking us?

Alabamastan - Al Quaeda in Iraq was there before, but they were called the Iraq Army and Republican Guard. Some of these terrorists already existed in such garden spots as Syria and Iran, but were drawn to Iraq to fight our soldiers. Again, please identify all these NEW terrorists that the US has created. I apologize for calling you a moron, but your statement was moronic.

Bottom line - please tell me where these new terrorists are and what they are doing to the USA? Surely they are smart enough to attack the people who actually inspired them to terroism? Or are they just bigoted savages who will strike out at anyone with the wrong color skin or going to the wrong building on Sunday?

Apologies if I cross linked your two areguments at any time.
  • Ithink
Swim, swam, have (or had) swum.
    Examples:
"I could let Ithink swim in his own stupidity."
"Ithink swam in uncertain waters when he tried to correct someone's grammar." (That would be a metaphor; I'll explain that if you need me to.)
"I will have swum around in this conservative cesspool of thought enough after finishing this post."

Pick up a book, Ithink, and maybe someday you'll live up to your name.
  • How to stop future pirate attacks!!
People are suggesting that we need to arm the crews of these ships. That is not what is needed. We need to supply the crews with laser target designators that work with "smart bombs". When one of these small pirate vessels starts to approach a ship, simply point the laser at them, and call up your friendly neighborhood F-18 - should always be a carrier within a few hundred miles, and with afterburners lit - they can be there in minutes. Vaporizing one of those small boats should not be any different than taking out moving cars or trucks. Minced pirate for the sharks!
  • looks like Somalia's done it before...
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/WireStory?id=6372888&page=1

Also, it looks like America tried to fund Ethiopia to go into Somalia and establish a govt friendly to the U.S. America should stop doing this sort of nonsense. Let them figure out what they need to do. Time for some personal responsibility. Lastly America has been bombing Somalia already, no need to expand military powers to go in and do more, let the crew of ships arm themselves so that private companies can take of this problem with America pushing itself further into debt.
  • They should have
put the 16 year old punk a$$ wannabe pirate back on the lifeboat with his dead, headless pirate buddies and set them adrift.

Now we're in for weeks if not months of debate about how this poor child became what he is.
  • Alabamastan
Alabamastan.. "Swum"? Is that swim in past tense in Alabama? Maybe you and Forrest can go scrimpin in yo bote and leave the comments to those who can spell and have proper grammar. Obama gets no points in my eyes. A general order does not constitute success. As a Marine I salute those SEALs. Job well done
  • Piracy
It's about time these rat-hole people realize that piracy=death. No money, no fame, just death. There would be a lot less of it if death was the final answer to piracy.
  • Deterrent
I find it hard to believe that this would be used to recruit more people into becoming a pirate. I think the more the pirates lose in these situations the less likely there will be more incidents. We and other nations need to continue to use force in protecting our citizens.

Also I agree that these companies should employ their own private security.
  • Back to pirates - not conservative and liberals
Think about this...head shots off the deck of a rolling ship! Impressive for anyone and says allot about the SEALs. I wonder if the surviving pirate needed a change of undies after watching his buddies hit the drink.
  • so the DaleC....
by your logic since there have been no hijackers flying planes into buildings the last 8 years that means there must have been no real terrorist for the prior 100? What kind backwards logic is that. The same people who perpetrated 9/11 have been busy blowing up train stations, hotels, schools, churches non stop since then. If you honestly believe there are no adequate terrorist then surely it is time to shut down Iraq and bring our soldiers home, right? I mean you have certainly told us all where you stand on the terror threat. It basically doesnt exist any longer by your standards. Oh but wait...it's only American terorism you are concerend with. Not the Global War on Terror. Geez Louise. The things that pass for logic with some people is astonishing.
  • French
Charlie Scott, the French have some very good and very experienced counter terrorist forces. Unfortunately they lost one hostage, ironically the ship's owner who knowingly and against his government’s advice sailed his friends and family into the pirate infested waters.
  • Effective?
The Obama - Clinton state department should be ashamed. It took them 4+ days to kill 3 pirates and wound a 4th after the captain had already made one escape attempt. They were too busy in a committee meeting to make sure the other pirates' feelings weren't hurt or other such nonsense. Clinton ought to go back to operating her phone sex line with her philandering husband and leave the real work to the big boys - the navy seals that made the headshots. Lousy weak-kneed liberals.
  • strenght
jeff you are the biggest Dumb ass walking like george Bush deserved to be called commander in chief. I bet your one of those guys who make a lot of noise but really is a coward and you use Neal to make yourself feel good because you are incapable of doing anything for yourself.
In my last post I meant to type proper.
Since people want to correct other people's spelling mistakes.
  • 16-y.o. somali pirate
It has apparently escaped the attention of all commentators that the young scamp will likely be remanded to U.S. custody where he'll be tried as a juvenile, offered a doughnut, and advised to stick closer to church-oriented social activities.
  • Bottom Line
No one here is denying that the outcome was great. Three dead MUSLIM pirates... Great!! Too bad it wasn't 4, but I'll take 3 dead Mulim goons.

The problem I have is this:

    (1) Why take so long? Why not issue any comment? No action and no comment showed weakness. The fact that these little ragtag pirates even went after our ship, in an unprecedented attack, showed you how much they fear the new "Changed" in America.

    (2) Why should Hussein Soetoro get credit? What, pray tell, other decision could he have made in this situation? Seriously, for pete's sake, what else could he have done?

It's like you are a straight single male sitting at home watching the Master's yesterday and a group of Victoria Secret's supermodels knock on the door and ask you if they can come in. Then, everyone hails and praises you for letting them in.
  • Club a Liberal and Dale C
One more time. I've got better things to do than waste my time on you two.

Just like you guys to take only half a quote out of context.

"Our invasion of Iraq HAS CREATED MORE ANIMOSITY AND TERRORISTS! No way to deny it. There was no Al Qaida in Iraq until after we took over."

Read again: "no Al Qaida in Iraq..." New terrorists IN IRAQ.

And both of you, calling names...it justs shows for all what a couple of high class debaters you are. William F. Buckley would be proud.
  • Big deal, he did his job.
I knew this day would come for Obama and I don't give him any credit, he was just doing what his job classification says he can do. I know most of the dumb masses in America still think he has something to do with the economy which is why they elected him. Back before the election, the thought of this guy being Comander-In-Chief of guys like Navy Seals made me want to puke. It still does today. He's not worthy enough to lick the mud off their boots, let alone be their Comander-In-Chief.
  • Copyleft
Isn't it weird that every time Copyleft speaks, we smell rotten eggs?
  • To: Jusjon
Oooh, so close! For full credit, the correct answer should have been

"Victory--America, thanks to an EFFECTIVE president."

    Better luck next time!
  • Jusjon
    Excellent post!
  • At least one of you bigots had the cahones to come out and say it. 'Conservatism' is the new face of the KKK; politics for the rednecks.
Sure, and that's why liberals argue that farm and construction jobs are only for Mexicans b/c Americans won't do it and why they say you can't turn Iraq into a democracy because the people there are too stupid to understand it.

Come on. Take the log out of your own bigoted eye before you take the speck out of your brother's.
  • My contention...
is not that this was an Obama failure...just that it was not some overwhelming victory as seemingly perpetuated in the media and the WH press corps. Day 1 should have transpired like this:

AIDE: "Sir, we have a situation...seems a group of Somali pirates overtook an American flagged freighter...which was subsequently taken back by the crew...and the Captain is himself taken hostage by the pirates. They are drifting toward the Somali shore in a lifeboat. Pirates number about 4 to 5 and are lightly armed. The USS BAINBRIDGE is underway to the scene now.

PREZBO: "Tell the CENTCOM Commander to take care of it however he sees fit. Let me know when the scumbags are dead and Capt Phillips is safe."
  • I don't know
Gavin honey you sounding pretty hateful there buddy! Calm down you'll give yourself a hernia! Naturally I'm talking about us here on this little "discussion group" forum.

    You do get that right?

And if you had been reading instead of attacking me (don't you wish) you would have noticed that I was one that gave BO an attaboy. Twice, I believe.

And I don't "declare" anything (that sounds so southern don't it?). Just stating my opinion. Others might think I am wrong for saying your opinion is just as valid as anyone elses but I'll leave that for them.
  • Copyleft
I'm going to help you get your wishes fulfilled and tell you that Obama is a moron and had nothing to do with the success on the pirates. He gave the order....woopidy dooooo....Why don't you go back to your rathole and continue mourning the passing of the creater of Dungeons and Dragons with Hugo's Ghost.
  • Mad at France?
Because their military shot some pirates?

Are these the same French people that Neal and his ilk deride repeatedly as wusses?
  • @DaleC
Good point on the "creating more terrorists" slogan. It reminds me of the libs when crime statistics came out few years ago to show that crime was on a big decreasing trend. The stats also showed that jails were filling up at higher rates. The libs cried out and came to this conslusion, "This is ridiculous, the crime rates have decreased, yet, we have continued to fill up our jails at increasing rates. "!!!!!!!!! LOL! Can you believe these people?
  • Lets see here, Copy...
Comparing the Chinese Government's "delaying the return" of a crash landed USN P3 recce aircraft and Somali pirates capturing and holding hostage a US citizen on the high seas...apples and oranges, friend.

Chinese Incident: Military participants on both sides...the PRC F8 interceptor, the P3 and crew and the Chinese base at Hainan. Pres. Bush responded to the Chinese government within 12 hours of determining the status of the aircraft and crew.

Somali Incident: Somali thugs hold a Merch Marine Captain at gunpoint in a lifeboat after a near successful piracy...PrezBo spends 5 days before he makes a decision to let the regional military commander do his job.

Chinese Incident: one P3 recce aircraft located on soverign (albeit communist soil) and 24 crewmembers held in cognito

Somali Incident: a lifeboat floating in international water with 4 armed thugs and a captive U.S. citizen in immenant danger

Chinese Incident: U.S./Chinese/International releations affected with the final outcome being the safe return of the crew and the dismantling and transfer of the aircraft back to U.S. soil after significant negotiations with a hostile government ...GW's response his first international incident as President.

Somali Incident: Finally, a couple of douchebags get a well deserved ventilation, Capt Williams is freed only after the on site commanding officer gives the green light after finally getting very broad approval by the PrezBo. Obama's non-response to his first "international incident" as President.

    1. Deploy forces to contain the situation - done by the regional combatant commander
    2. Negotiate a peaceful resolution if possible - not necessary with criminals on the high seas and certainly not desireable
    3. Stay ready to use force if absolutely necessary, or if diplomacy fails - diplomacy will not work with thugs...precision firepower did
    4. When/if force becomes necessary, focus on saving the innocent life first, and take action efficiently and effectively. - exactly what happened...Capt Williams is alive, three ragsuckers are not.

Victory, USN (despite an ineffective President)
  • Joyce declares all opinions equal
Wow, so when Iran's Omedenablahblahblah says he doubts the holocaust happened and Israel should be wiped out, I should put him on equal footing with those of us who say differently?

BTW, Limbaugh's slogan is Rush is right. O shame on him. I'm sure you will send him an email telling him what you told me.

Look, you being consistently wrong doesn't make me less right. I say shame on those of you who are so full of hate that you can't even accept this event as a good thing for America. Almost like they wish it had failed so they could point fingers. And I say because you have done nothing but said good job to the US.

  • Weapons on ships
A lot of ports will not permit a ship to offload without accounting for all weapons. The weapons must be declared to avoid serious complications with various host governments. These inspections slow the ships down and are usually deemed to be prohibitively expensive from the standpoint of time and liability.
  • @Alabamastan
You said "Our invasion of Iraq HAS CREATED MORE ANIMOSITY AND TERRORISTS! "

These terrorists that we have "created" for the last seven years must be the guys conducting all of the successful acts of terrorism against US citizens. You know, like hijacking American planes and flying them into American buildings and what not.

Wait, you mean that HASN'T been happening? What have all these newly minted terrorists been doing for the last SEVEN FREAKING YEARS!!! These are some low-quality terrorists!

    Moron.
  • Seals the Deal
From reading most of these posts, I am like most of you here, WELL DONE!

At this pointI don't care why the Prez gave the order I'm glad he did. But one "Thumbs Up" doen't get rid of all the "OH CRAPS" he has recieved.

I ahd to laugh at COPYLEFT, boy the minute he thought somebody was saying some thing bad about OBAMA, he went off the deep end.

To you lefties out there, I want to hear a little fairness. I want to hear you complain that he took "unilateral" action. I want to hear you complain that he was just too ergar to kill people. I want to hear about how he should go to the U.N. for permission.

    (sound of crickets)

Thats what I thought, just like Bush couldn't do anything right, Obama can't do anything wrong. OH! but it's not about politics is it?

And this just keeps getting funnier!
  • China and Somalia
Copyleft doesn't understand the difference between a flea-bitten Islamoterrprist-toilet and a Nuclear Superpower.

Bush dealt with China and Obama dealt with these pirates.

    Good for them both.
  • Oh come on Gavin
you can do better than that!

No, you can't claim always being right anymore than anyone else can. We all have our opinions and like I said yours is not any better, just different.
  • Alabamastan
You say, "As has been pointed out here, this is not terrorism, it's piracy."

    ------

That proves my point even better about how hypocritical you libs are, not to mention completely illogical. You just said that this was piracy and not terrorism, and our laws governing such are different. OK..fine...That means terrorism is treated much more harshly and piracy is treated more as a crime/law enforcement thing.

OK, my simple question then is: Why do you libs nearly trip over yourselves in defense of terrorists "rights", and moan about so-called torture (the horror of putting panties on a man's head and making him walk on a leash - what torture!) when Bush is going after a terrorist, which as you said, is a much more serious crime, YET you are cheering when 3 pirates, who have committed a much smaller crime according to you, are shot dead!! What logic!!

    To sum up:

    (1) Terrorists are much worse than Pirates and laws dictate much harsher penalties.

    (2) Under Bush, we have the vile throatcutting terrorists on Club Med/Gitmo facing "horrific" torture such as having underwear placed on head (BTW, many of you libs would pay someone to do that to you on a weekend!). Because of this, you call Bush an evil imperialist aggressor.

    (2) Under Obama, we KILL 3 pirates (for a much lesser crime) and you call Obozo a hero!!!

As I said, the liberal mind is truly something that needs to be studied.
  • Ships Can't Carry Weapons???
Frank as far as I am aware there is not a maritime law against merchant ships carrying firearms. In fact I understand some companies do have limited small arms available to ship's officers.
  • Well, I guess I can just
rip out the page from my typewriter asking the UN to send a very sternly worded letter registering our OFFICIAL protest regarding the Somali pirates' behavior.

    Never mind.
  • and you, Joyce?
You are bitter, hate filled and usually wrong. Without reason to be, which makes it sad.

I'd rather be arrogant and right than humble and wrong! But it looks good on you, sweetie.
  • I'm waiting for the U.S. Navy's 20% budget cut announcement, like what happened to missile defense after the North Korean launch.
Obama got this right because he's running scared... not unlike Kennedy's escalation of Vietnam after his Bay of Pigs embarrassment.
  • Gavin
    "you're not relevant"

And you are? You really are arrogant. Without reason to be, which really makes it sad.

Your opinion and ideas are not any more or less "relevant" than any one else's.

I think earlier someone said "they win one election".... There are more to come.
  • @ JR
No, Boortz' view on privatizing security on US flagged ships is not a liberal one. While it is the responsibility of the US Navy to ensure the safety of our ships, the more merchant ships and private companies that get their butts into trouble the more they have to depend of the US government to get them out of trouble. Remember that thing about Libertarians wanting LESS government intervention in the private sector? This ship went knowingly into pirate-infested waters and if they'd just had their own hired hands they could've avoided the entire situation.
  • U.S. Navy Seals
The Seals Rock!!!! Our military is about the last part of the US Government that I have any faith or trust. This was truly a job well done by our Seal team.
  • And how do you plan to change international law?
It's illegal for merchant ships to be armed or even have small arms aboard for the crew.
  • COME ON NEAL!!!!!
I thought you were better than the media...

They are Navy SEALs!!! NOT Navy Seals. SEAL is an acronym for SEa, Air, Land.

Most of my SEAL friends are amazed that the media can't get this right.

    SoCal
  • strength or weakness
So Neal you got all riled up only for the suituation to be handled in the propre manner.
The President is not going to beat his chest and sound off with hot air like you, as usual he is calm and collected.
To all the nay sayers what say you now. Same old BS coming from your small minded brains.
Most of you are hypocrites. Just like Notre dame, catholic church molested hundreds of young boys and tried to cover it up but they have an issue with abortion.
Well the president seems to know how to handle his critics less talk more walk the walk. Show some respect.
  • Alan- Apology?
Obama is our employee so he gets an attaboy, but no apology. I do wish he hadn't taken so long, but it's done. And our Captain is safe. Now we need to launch a coordinated rescue for the 200 hostages AND get rid of the pirates once again.

"... to the shores of Tripoli.."
  • Hey, ClubaLiberal
Have you seen the left wing Blog "Crooks and Liars"? That'll give you something to get cranky about.

Pirate symapathizers, left wing nut jobs and general garden variety wackos.

I can't believe anybody would sympathize with pirates. Probably sympathize with terrorists of other ilks, too. Wackos. Let's ship them to Somalia so they can have a first hand observation.
  • Why the Delay?
I just figured out why OBozo took so long to make a decision on these pirates. My guess is that President Barry Hussein Soetoro had to first make sure that one of these pirates wasn't one of his Kenyan half-brothers.

I thought the whole world is supposed to love us now that Obama is Prez. Even his homeland is committing terrorists attacks on us now! Great job, Hussein Obama!
  • I give Obama no credit.....
....because I'm a hate filled little right-wing crybaby and I want my baba!!! waaahhh!!!!!!!!!

Those of you so eager to point out why this is not an Obama victory instead of simply celebrating it as an American victory are the same ones so eager to blame Obama for the economy he inherited. Had this situation actually gone badly -- like, say, I dunno....Iraq? -- you clowns would be all over him but since it went well all you can do is run your little mouths about why Obama gets no credit. Of course you're the same idiots who think Bush deserves no blame for Iraq so I guess in your demented way you are at least consistent.

Truly amazing. I'd call it alarming but like your boy copyleft said, you aren't relevant.

Hey Occam's Razor: Awesome name choice considering Occam himself would not agree with your unnecessarily complicated theory! Listen to Occam, the fewer presumptions the better! LOL.
  • Club-a-Liberal
Glad to see you're keeping the discussion on a high plane. I've been called a moron by people whose opinion I regard alot higher that yours, so keep it up.

As has been pointed out here, this is not terrorism, it's piracy. The fact that they are nominally Muslim has nothing to do with it. These guys are thugs and deserved what they got. I feel the same way when a shop keeper blows away some punk holding up a convenience store.

To address your other well-worn point, Our invasion of Iraq HAS CREATED MORE ANIMOSITY AND TERRORISTS! No way to deny it. There was no Al Qaida in Iraq until after we took over. In my opinion (and it hasn't changed since Day One) we had every right and duty to go into Afghanistan to destroy the people who attacked us. We had no right or reason to go into Iraq. Had we left Iraq alone and concentrated on Afghanistan, we'd be done with it by now.

As for your other well-worn point, "If this had happened when Bush was president..." give it a rest. I'm tired of the nonsense.

So go head, pee all over yourself because you can't pigeon hole my opinions.
  • Obviousness revealed
"besides me being happy that 3 scum sucking pork chop eatin'stinkin' muslims are dead"

At least one of you bigots had the cahones to come out and say it. 'Conservatism' is the new face of the KKK; politics for the rednecks.
  • Can't you hyperpartisans shut off the faucet just once
Just enjoy the fact that America won this one and stop with the childish hyperpartisn nonsense. America did something good, enjoy it and be proud!
  • Good Boys
They were just some poor mis-guided youths. Trying to get some funds so that they could attend college. Went to church on sundays. Thats why they was trying to get back home yesterday. They was good boys. SEE YA's IN HELL--
  • Navy Seals
I was unsurprised by the actions taken this weekend to free the kidnapped captain. I told my friends and family this week, be patient, as they complained this poor guy would get killed. It takes time to get the seals to the scene I explained to them. After all, not all ships carry these outstanding individuals on board. And again when other ships were being sent, I heard time and again why do we need all those ships and equipment. And again, I advised, wait, be patient, the Seals are on their way. They need transport to get there, believe it. I wake up on Sunday morning and lo and behold, the Seals freed the captain. WAY TO GO SEALS!!! I knew you would do it!!!
  • Piracy IS a Criminal Act
Sorry, but piracy is a criminal act, and not an act of terrorism. Currently the US has an agreement of understanding with Kenya to accept suspected pirates and to prosecute them. The other option would be to try them in the USA because the cargo vessel was registered in the US. Article III, Section 2 of our Constitution grants jurisdiction to U.S. courts over admiralty and maritime matters, in which acts of piracy would be considered.
  • unemployment droping
Long John Silvers is looking to fill 3 positions in the greeter department due to sudden openings....har har har har har!!!!

besides me being happy that 3 scum sucking pork chop eatin'stinkin' muslims are dead there are some in the home village that are also happy. they don't have to share their easter ham with the pie-rats....... har har har!
  • Head Shots?
Where else in the news world, except in ravings by Neal, is their a discussion of simultaneous head shots on the pirates?
  • pirates
I'm glad Obama didn't stand too much in the way, but can anyone tell me WHY he took as long as he did?
  • head shots
    BZ to the shooters.
for those that don't know what BZ is it's an old Navy flag signal that has become a salute and a pat on the back for a job WELL DONE.

they didn't act independently so osamabama did give permission finally, he was bizzy with more important things, 5 times a day prayers, and the damn dog.

much more needs to be done to let pie-rats know they are going to pay a very high price if they what to play pie-rat.

    DRIP
    don't return incumbent politicians
  • Easier to ask forgiveness, than permission
I can't believe, based on past performance, that our President authorized this. I would find it a much more likely scenario that the Captain of the Bainbridge decided to do this on his own authority. Now that it's been successful, President Obama will get the credit anyway. If it had failed, our President would have denied knowledge of it. Even better, since it was successful, they can't deny it was presidentially authorized.
  • AP story
    This line:
U.S. officials said a fourth pirate had surrendered and was in military custody. FBI spokesman John Miller said that would change as the situation became "more of a criminal issue than a military issue."

shows how asinine things become when the line between terrorism and criminal acts becomes fuzzy.

This IS the purpose of the US Navy - ensure the US and her interests have access to the sea. This is NOT a criminal act, let the Navy do its job and it will be done well.
  • Alabamastan
You libs are truly a piece of work! Alabamastan said - "As one of the left-leaning posters on Neal's site, I wanted to let you folks know that I'm trilled with the result, proud that there are brave and skilled people out there protecting us, and I want any other pirates treated the same way."

Too funny!! All of a sudden, the libs are agressive on terrorists! Can you imagine if this happened under Bush? These same libs would be whining about "This cowboy Bush is just assassinating people without even a trial. And you wonder why the rest of the world hates us when we do this to "freedom fighters". This will only create more pirates!"

Well, moron, how come you are no longer concerned about the rights of these pirates? How come you are no longer concerned what this action will do to our likeability factor around the Muslim world?? How come you are not playing the old braindead mantra slogan of, 'We are only creating more terrorists with these actions."???

Which came first, the liberal or the stupidity?
  • The Captured Pirate...
So our Atty General wants to bring this pirate to USA and and try him?

Hmmm, considering the gazillion people that actually WANT to come to the US, I can picture someone nutcase waving a waterpistol at a maritime ship claiming he wants to hyjack it, only so he can "surrender" and get a free trip to the USA.

    Yeah, that's the ticket.
  • Disturbing notion
Has anyone thought about this, or am I being alarmist and conspiracy happy?

Has it occurred to anyone that the timing of this is, well, interesting? Not that PresBO could have timed the hijacking, but do any of you think that the Administration might be so desperate to take attention off the April 15 protests, that they might arrange for Captain Phillips not to be returned to the States until April 15th?

Consider how long they dinked around rescuing this guy...and they could conceivably hold him for "medical observation and debriefing til Tues, then fly him home to be here by Wed morning?

    Just a thought.

On a lighter note, my husband also had a thought...lol...think Obama will charge Maersk for the rescue? Local gov'ts are starting to charge for stuff like police showing up at accidents to make reports, after all.
  • Give the man his due
God bless the snipers and their accuracy!! I'm happy to see an American coming home safe after such an ordeal.

I think there are several people whom commented last week about the "weakness" our president showed during the build up to this and owe the man an apology.

Our President came through for a fellow American and released the country's finest on a couple a hack-jack-sparrow wannabe's ....
  • Now we need to finish the job
I know President Obama has stated that we need some sort of international cooperation to end piracy, but really, we should take the steps whether or not other countries want to help. The Barbary Pirates ruled much of the Mediterranean and Atlantic until the United States decided to not pay tribute and destroyed them in two wars. Sure we had some help from other countries, but we started out alone and it took this courage to wipe out the pirates. I hope Obama has the courage to finish the job and eliminate the pirates. I guarantee you if he waits around for international approval the job will not get done.
  • Obama gets two points....
For actually letting the military do its job.
He didn't get three because they want to bring the 4th pirate back for "trial" when piracy on the high seas already has precedent....yardarm, hanging, etc.

One of the most interesting things is that libertarians/conservatives will give him credit for doing the right thing. However, the liberals would never do the same for Bush.
  • Wonder
I wonder: If a Republican gave the order to take them out, would they be given kudos by the media? Or would they be branded a bully or not being sensitive to the pirates needs?
    Just thinking....
  • Captain Richard Phillips
    Skipper,
    Welcome home!
    Be safe.
We are ALL happy and relieved that you are alive and well.
Terrible that you had to go through this ordeal.
  • Just shut up!
Copyleft, whoever you are, I normally defend your right to speak out, not this time. You, 'Big Africa' all the folks who call the right wingers 'bitter' and 'Anti American', just shut up! Nobody is tryig to take credit away from the President for allowing the Navy to handle it, which is what he should do! He did, they did, Pirates took one for their team, end of story. You guys are still hating on conservatives, gee, are you sure the right guy got elected? I mean, what happened to 'Hope', 'Change', 'one America'? That was just talk...just til your man got elected and then back to the old 'blame it on them' routine? And 'Big' lots of us support the Patriot Act because it keeps the U.S. in the driver's seat. If you don't agree, fine. Move somewhere else, see if you feel safer. We won't miss you, really!
  • I hope
I just hope the pirates don't start taking revenge on the hostages they still have captive. I say give them what they want to free the captives then nuke the bastards.
  • Pirates
I don't like BO period even if he does do somethings correctly. But we'll soon see if he has the guts to act. According to Bloomberg.com the military is preparing plans to attack the pirates land bases. They will be presented to BO soon. Will he act?????
  • HOOYAH Is the word
and SEAL speak for Well Done!!(among other things. )

Do you know freakin hard this was? I thought so- HOOYah to the spotter and team leaders and those unbelievable SEAL snipers!
  • pirate/terrorists
1.) For those who say that the pirates are not terrorists, what exactly are they trying to accomplish with threats of retaliation? Terrorists use violence to instill fear and in intimidation to accomplish their goals. Period.
2.) Obama dithered and hesitated long enough to make America look weak. After the fact he says"Hey, look what I did!" Yeah, right. Until I know for a fact he actually gave permission before the fact, I remain very skeptical.
3.)Thank God for Navy Seals!!!!! God bless America!!!!!
  • You gotta love him Neal
This is way better than Bush's response to pirates Neal. That response I guess was to let the economy sink so far that most American ships wont be in use. I know you like a President that knows how to use the military effectively.
  • Constitutions?
Neal, I think you are showing more and more signs of dementia. You wrote "Constitutions" on the home page (in relation to the Somali pirate thing) and make numerous "backwards" mistakes on your show. Stuff like saying "in" when you should say "out" and "Dem" when you mean "GOP."

Please get help although it is likely too late.
  • Give me a Freakin' Break
When the news bulletin came on yesterday, I was wondering how long it would take before Oprompter would take credit. It took all of 2 minutes. OBozo was silent all week long while these little pis$-ant ragtag pirates captured an AMERICAN ship and took AMERICANS hostage. The Bozo-in-Chief never uttered a word. In fact, when pressed a few days ago to comment, they said that he won't comment now because he is focusing on the housing crisis!!

Now, the snipers do the job, and the story, within minutes, the Administration comes out and leaks how OBozo gave the green light. The media laps it up and runs with it. And you NEAL, too, continue to fall for this crap. This is now the 3rd time in the last two weeks you've fallen under the hynososis of the Messiah. I thought you were smarter than that.

JUST THINK - what in the hell was OBozo supposed to do? As if he was making the strategy! The Navy simply told him:

NAVY: "Look, we are certain our hostage is going to get killed if we don't act immediately, do we have approval to act."

OBOZO: "Well, uhh...ummm.ahhh....let me be clear.....ummmm...uh...if that is the last option,...uh...ummm.. OK."

What a genius and hero this dolt is! Remember, not a single word for a week on this mess, only after things turned out well. If the sniper shots went bad, would the Admin have been so fast in saying that OBozo gave the green light? or would they have thrown the military under the bus?
  • Head Shots
Well, obviously Neal has the video and pictures of the head shots and brains splattering.

He wouldn't keep harping on about stuff he has never seen.

I am sure he would not just fabricate stories for our entertainment, would you Neal?

Please post your pictures and stuff to shut down these naysayers.
  • Navy Seals
This story has NOTHING to do with Obama. Had Obama interfered with the military solution, THEN it would be about him.
  • To: Copyleft
    I stand corrected.
  • Pardon, my cynacism is showing.....
Obama is not going to stand up to Vladimir Putin of Russia or Kim Jong Il of N. Korea, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran or Hu Jintao of China or Hugo Chavez of Venezuela or Hamas. Here was an opportunity to look like a no-nonsense president, able to make the tough calls - and only risk the life of 1 person in doing so. This was the right thing to do and should not have been a hard call to make. If it did not seem that everything else this administration has done so far was geared towards approval ratings I would be less skeptical of both the motives and what it porteneds about Obama's willingness to make a similar decision in regards to one of the aforementioned.
  • Counter Terrorists WIN!
    Boom! Headshot!
    Boom! Headshot!
    Boom! Headshot!

    ...or, it's like a game of Whack-a-Mole.
  • Gramma Nazi
To Grammar Nazi Allen: It's Neal, not Neil. Proofread your troll posts please, thanks. Do you have anything of value to add?
  • Obama saved the day? yeah right!
Obama had about as much to do with saving the captain from the pirates as Bud Selig had to do with the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series.

    http://www.blackfive.net/main/2009/04/how-the-rescue-happened.html
  • Good Hunting
Folks, I just don't see a community organizer knowing enough to give specific actionable direction to the military. I think he unknowingly gave the broadest latitude and the professional military did what they do best. One sign if I am right is to watch the future career of the commander on the scene. If he goes up on the next Admiral's board then you will know I am wrong. If his career stymies or he retires early you will know the community organizer got his socks on wrong.

I personally believe Obama is way in over his head in the ability to protect American citizens. I personally trust our professional military to protect us and not any career politician. Go NAVY!!!
  • com'on guys,giveB.O. credit when due
Well you have to give prez obama some credit even if its just for getting out of the way and letting the military do what it was formed for 200 years ago, preservation of freedom and protection of right to free trade on the hi seas between nations(besides there are a million other things we can bitch about that Obama's doing). Although the threat of future revenge from the "pirates" is something of concern its just gonna be dealt with as it happens and thats where Obama can either lead, follow or wimp out.How he handles the next one and the one after will tell. The basics of any economy is free flow of trade between markets and this pirate crap is something that has gone unchecked for too long.Yeah there will be some innocent hostages sacrificed by these thugs in the name of revenge or jihad or alla or whatever but "the tree of liberty is nurished with the blood of patriots(and innocents)" ....and to the people who say we can't afford be the "police" of the world ,your possibly right but we can use our(already paying for)navy to secure trade routes which make money to pay for said navy AND all the bleeding heart projects and such that we waste billions on for you guys.
  • Bring it.
"Somali pirates were quick to vow revenge over the shooting of their comrades..."

    I say, Bring it!

As one of the left-leaning posters on Neal's site, I wanted to let you folks know that I'm trilled with the result, proud that there are brave and skilled people out there protecting us, and I want any other pirates treated the same way. Sorry to damage the image you folks have built of us on the other side.
  • Back off Copy
We are enjoying the victory for the moment, don't spoil it by wiping your nose all in it.

Congrats to Obama are in order. And don't you know that Captain is the biggest hero we've seen in a long time!!! That was awesome, he is what is truly good about America!
  • one lonely pirate
If all four had been eliminated, there would be only our side to the story. Now, there is one extremely traumatized and impressed pirate to go back to his buddies and tell them to leave the USA alone! Hope he has nightmares for years!
  • Neo-Con = Anti-American
If you support something as rabidly anti-American as the Patriot Act, you might be a neo-con.
  • Im not a fan of his politics but....
No matter how you look at it, this is a clear and concise victory for Obama and the sharp shooters. There's just no 2 ways about it. The neo-cons can type their fingers down to the 2nd knuckle and they would be outright wrong if they try to undermind this fact. If it were Komrad Bush in office the neo-con mystics would definitely see it as a clear concise victory. Is Obama still turning America into a socialist nation? Yep. Is he still destroying the American currency with inflation and 11 trillion dollar debt and spending money on wars that have nothing to do with American security? You bet. Is he still leaving the border open and preparing to reward illegal aliens for their criminal acts? You bet.
  • Hopefully...
This isn't Obama just once again caving to politcal pressure in giving the ok to take these pirates out.

It's a great day to be certain, but I can't help shaking the feeling Obama only did this because it was the way the political winds were blowing that day.
  • yeah right
Real difficult decision by BO...SEAL snipers should have been authorized on day 1, any reasonable human being would have given such an authorization the thumbs up immediately. This decision took no courage.
  • Obama the Delegator
So Prezbo delegates the authority to take action to the commander on the scene. That way if the action would have failed, Prezbo can throw the guy under the bus and say it was the commander's fault it failed.
  • @copyleft
Here's the real difference between liberals like you and conservatives like us:

When a person on the other side does a good thing, we give them the praise they deserve. You just hope that the good deed irritates your opponents.

Seriously, which group would rather get the right thing done rather than carry on with political infighting.
  • Hypocritically writing, you are...
"Now its time for the shipping lines to do a bit more to defend and protect themselves so that the U.S. Military won't have to do the job for them."

I beg your pardon, Mr. Boortz, but while I am a fan & conservative, I WHOLLY disagree with your statement and would submit that a simple correction would not suffice.
It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the US government to provide for the safety of US-flagged ships & merchant seamen.
Sounding like a liberal, you are.
While I agree that ships should be better prepared to repel boarders, the job falls to the US Navy.
I think you need to dedicate a full segment on this one to explain your 'error'...
  • Grammer
That's Neal buddy. You try writing as much as he does and let's see how many mistake you make.
  • Remember: Bush was personally fighting in Iraq
The number of "This isn't Obama's victory, it's the SEALs' victory" responses in this thread is laughable. These are the same sycophants who praise Bush for the Iraq war when he was nowhere near it. Just more bias from the right-wing echo chamber.
  • This thread summarized:
"I'm not going to give the President any credit at all because I don't want to admit I was wrong."

At least Neal has enough humility to admit it, unlike the rest of these neocon dead-enders.
  • NAVY SEALS! OBAMA TURNS THEM LOOSE!
Obama can't make a decision. More likely, he told the Captain to do what he thought best. If the Captain succeeded, Obama would take the credit. If the Captain failed, the Captain would take the heat.
  • To: Jusjon and Shmoe
"That is what his predecessor would’ve done."

Wrong. When China captured one of our planes, that's exactly what Bush DIDN'T do. Instead he blustered and swaggered and eventually caved in order to beg for the hostage's safe return.

JoeShmoe: Wrong again. Point to anywhere that I said Obama should "never use military force" in this situation. The liberal approach--i.e., the RATIONAL, SMART approach--was to do exactly what C-in-C Obama did:

    1. Deploy forces to contain the situation
    2. Negotiate a peaceful resolution if possible
    3. Stay ready to use force if absolutely necessary, or if diplomacy fails
    4. When/if force becomes necessary, focus on saving the innocent life first, and take action efficiently and effectively.

All of which was done, at Obama's command. And WITHOUT the grandstanding and bullying threats that characterized G.W.B.'s ineffectual style.

Victory for Obama, and for America. You're stuck with it. Enjoy!
  • You people amaze me
Obama could have swum to the boat with a knife clenched between his teeth slit the throats of the pirates and had the fourth one hanged and left to rot on the Somali shore (my suggestion, by the way)and you people would still criticize his motive/will/initiative/guts. He didn't make any comment on the situation so as not to politicize the situation or make it "about him" and he consulted the military and agreed with their assessment (move if the hostage is threatened), then authorized it. It's not like Obama made up the rules of engagement out of thin air.

Can't you folks just once put the sour grapes away and acknowledge that Obama did the right thing for the right reasons and that you agree with the action?
  • Details ?
Who needs details: we want the video of the headshots.
In the words of John Ringo: ". . . that's what **I** call quality television"
  • Copyleftie
I get a distinct impression that our old pal copyleftie is a miserable never happy malcontent no matter what happens.
You can bet on websites that cater to copyleftie types ONLY. They are bemoaning some twisted reason about our Military using excessive force etc, Being a thief/Pirate just became a little more risky. How many will drop out of this theft rather than lose their lives?
Kind of reminds me of the massive carjacking in florida. really came to a decline in a hurry when the concealed permitts were issued,
    SEMPER FI
  • DON'T BE FOOLED
This IS NOT Obama's victory. I don't recall hearing in the news that the PrezBo was personally on the Bainbridge manning the sniper rifles.

This is a victory made possible only by our outstanding military. You know, the same military that our current president wants to diminish, weaken, and so forth.

Funny how the lefties (Copyleft *snicker snicker* by the way, those constant snickers bring a very weasel-like image to mind, not something a leftie should be going for) are quick to praise the military when they make (whichever) president look like some kind of hero, but condemn them when it suits their interests in defaming a presiden they do not like.

Show praise to the military because they are the heroes, Barack only said "yes" because he knows America would not be thrilled with him had this gone the Carter way.
  • Step 1
Ok, the pirates are dead, what about those in Putland that allow and encourage this activity? It is time to go some old fashioned pirate hunting on the high seas and the ports where they operate.
  • in commemoration
This should be a new national holiday. I'd call it Hat Trick Day. Since we already have Easter Sunday, we could celebrate Hat Trick Day on Monday.
  • The circus will continue
In about 24-48 hours the spotlight will be off of "elimination of evil" and on to "US Insensitivity and Lack of Restraint." Until then, chalk one up for Obama for being decisive on this.
  • Not an Obama victory
Sorry, Copyleft, but the heroes here are the SEAL shooters and the commander on the scene who cleared the order to engage. PrezBo issued broad guidelines in "ensuring the security of the hostage" ...not taking out the threat and sending a message that the US is not to be trifled with. Had PrezBo wanted to show some spine and decisive leadership, he would have told CENTCOM to "Kill the a$$holes and get our guys back safely" That is what his predecessor would’ve done.
  • I sleep well at night knowing
that there are hard men ready to wreak violence on those who would try to harm me.
  • How to prevent piracy
If there were no floating objects in Somalia, there would be no piracy coming from there. So, it's simple. Sink every boat docked at every port in Somalia, and there is no more piracy problem.
  • Hang 'em high
The fourth pirate should be publicly hung on the ship and the ship should cruise the coast displaying his dead corpse for all to see what happens to pirates!
  • Political Cover v. Successful Operations
First, congrats to our SEALS and their wonderful job. Go get 'em, guys!

Second, why does it seem to me that the President took cover on this one? He wouldn't say anything to start with and then, when it became clear it worked out, every (and I mean *EVERY*) news story has the words "the president authorized this" within the first sentence or two.

Yet, had it gone badly, I expect we'd be hearing from the other template about how some rogue SEALS had taken upon themselves to act while the President was still looking for a "peaceful way" to solve this crisis.

Can we please have our cowboy back? (not GW . . . RR!)
  • Go Navy Seals!
    Navy Seals 3 - Pirates 0 (final)
  • Obama says shoot the pirates?
I'll bet Hussein wanted to negotiate, wait, talk, see what happens...

Some smart person probably told him that he needs to take them out to get him some image points.
  • Hey Joe
I knew I'd screw up somewhere.
  • copyleft loser
By the way, it's obvious that copyleft is a moveonsoros.org or dailykos plant, a supreme (and irrelevant) coward who will never engage in debate, only take potshots like the extremist Islamic terrorist scum he emulates.
  • Hypocrite
COPYLEFT - Just last week you were spouting that this type of action was NOT what should be done and neither Obama nor his administration is the hero here. Jerk.
  • Obama is STILL weak
Obama's specific order with this pirate situation was for the Navy to do something ONLY if the hostage captain's life was in danger. This is a political cop out, giving Obama the best chance to be a winner for the effeminate loser-copyleft crowd. A president who had principles (not to mention balls) would have given the order for the SEALs to take out the pirates at the first opportunity (keeping in mind the captain's well being, of course), which the SEALs are eminently qualified to do. Watch the follow through on this by Obama. It will be the same as Clinton's, who allowed the Al Qaeda situation to fester until 9/11 resulted. The American Special Forces proved how they are the best in the world. Obama is not fit to even lick their shoes.
  • Allen
Proof read your own stuff before you criticize, my friend. It's NEAL, not Neil.

It was truely energizing to hear the story of the Navy Seal snipers taking out those pirates. America can still stand strong! Despite the threats from Pirates about making the US pay for the deaths, I don't think it will happen. They want money, not glory. Yesterday's events told them that the US will not be blackmailed or held hostage, and we shoot to kill, even for just one of our own. They WILL have to think twice before attacking a ship sailing under an Amercian flag.

Kudos to Obama for making the right, albeit tough, decision.
  • Seals
Navy Seals Rocks. Great headline to come home to after attending the Masters. Now the shipping companies need to do something to protect themselves, like moving through these areas in larger convoys with armed escort ships. That would lower the insurance costs and spread the security costs over several companies.
As far as the ships and crew still held by the pirates, give them 48 hours to release all or face invasion.
  • "mean and serious guards"
With the mention of "mean and serious" guards, I instantly thought of speaker pelosi. But she would welcome them with RED carpet, voting rights, and citizenship. Bite me Allen
  • Great shots....
Im glad to here things worked out well. As far as Somali retaliation though, they are out of their minds. They do not have the capacity to pose a real threat to the U.S. Get all American ship crews armed and prepared to defend themselves so this nonsense can stop.

"Now its time for the shipping lines to do a bit more to defend and protect themselves so that the U.S. Military won't have to do the job for them."

Wow a little conservatism on the foreign policy front Neal rather than neo-con mysticism? Im impressed!Have you been listening to Ron Paul? Let's DO get this done, and lets get this done on the global scale also and get American troops home from all over the planet (Iraq,Korea,Japan,Germany)and let other countries start taking some responsibility for themselves rather than waiting around for the American tax payer to provide military welfare for them.
  • Heroes
Yes, President Obama gave the order, but the Navy sharpshooters are the real heroes.
  • Hey Allen
    It's Neal, not Neil.
  • Amen
The SEALS, our navy, our military--those guys are just awesome. Glad to see that the prez actually believed in them this time. Hope its a trend to continue.
  • Sorry
Sorry Neal, but I am not giving Barry any credit. He refused to comment on it when it happened, he issued no warnings to the thugs. Even Hillary laughed about it.He probably only did it for his own political gain. This thing should have been over when it started. The 2-3 days they held him hostage was 2-3 days they held our country at bay. So no credit from me.
  • grammar
if you have listened for any length of time, you will know that these notes are not proofread. These are his notes for the day while doing his show.
  • Ambush the Pirates Randomly
Let's send a few "civilian" vessles through there waving a French or American flag filled with commandos dressed in civilian clothes. Get the pirates on board and wipe them out. Then do it again until the piracy stops.

230 more hostages? The U.S. can take care of it and send the bill to the UN since they aren't going to do a damned thing.

    Go Navy Seals!
  • Arming ships
Trained personnel and a couple of deck mounted Dillon M134's would stop the bastards.
  • Enjoy that helping of crow!
What a great headline: "Obama Administration Defeats Dangerous, America-Hating Scum--and some Somali Pirates, Too"!

I hope Coulter, Hannity, and the rest of the America-haters are choking on their own bile this morning. What a great day to be a REAL American, and not a bitter right-wing loser.

Not to worry... before this week is out they'll have come up with SOME sort of spin to put on this to pretend it's not a victory for Obama. And the right will continue its steady slide into iirelevance. (snicker)
  • Leave it to the Pros!
This could have gone badly. It didn't. When we take the politics and the media away and get down to the bare essentials, our 'Specialists' can do the job. What will the 'pirates' do next? I don't know but if that was their best and brightest, a career change would be a good move. Any bleeding hearts out there, forget these guys, they had it coming.
  • Navy Seals
    Congratulations on a successful mission!

The US military sent more than just bullets the other day!
  • SEALS Green Light
Glad the military did the job we set them up to do, and did it professionally. It will be awhile before details are released, but I suspect when the life boat began to get close to the coast, and the targets showed their heads, and a guy had a AK-47 near the Captain, that met all the requirements under a broad outline the military had gotten from Obama. I don't see Obama having indepth knowledge of actionable work as the military has nothing to do with community organizing. Point is; a professional military received broad instructions and they made the best of their broad latitude. Go Navy!!! Now, I don't understand why we have to bring the 4th guy back to dry land.

A captain has the power and the law to try the pirate. Makes more sense to try him on the high seas than in a land court.
  • Snipers
I was just telling my husband Friday that they needed to get some snipers on that ship and take those pirates out.

Personally I think we should execute the pirate in custody on the bow of the ship and throw his ass overboard.
