People are suggesting that we need to arm the crews of these ships. That is not what is needed. We need to supply the crews with laser target designators that work with "smart bombs". When one of these small pirate vessels starts to approach a ship, simply point the laser at them, and call up your friendly neighborhood F-18 - should always be a carrier within a few hundred miles, and with afterburners lit - they can be there in minutes. Vaporizing one of those small boats should not be any different than taking out moving cars or trucks. Minced pirate for the sharks!

Sorry, but piracy is a criminal act, and not an act of terrorism. Currently the US has an agreement of understanding with Kenya to accept suspected pirates and to prosecute them. The other option would be to try them in the USA because the cargo vessel was registered in the US. Article III, Section 2 of our Constitution grants jurisdiction to U.S. courts over admiralty and maritime matters, in which acts of piracy would be considered.

Folks, I just don't see a community organizer knowing enough to give specific actionable direction to the military. I think he unknowingly gave the broadest latitude and the professional military did what they do best. One sign if I am right is to watch the future career of the commander on the scene. If he goes up on the next Admiral's board then you will know I am wrong. If his career stymies or he retires early you will know the community organizer got his socks on wrong.

The American Special Forces proved how they are the best in the world. Obama is not fit to even lick their shoes.

That would lower the insurance costs and spread the security costs over several companies.
