A quite amusing column from Iain Martin at the London Daily Telegraph. Here's the link if you want to read it yourself, but I may have to whet your appetite ... so take a look at this excerpt. He starts out with a quote from Obama in Prague:

"For over a thousand years, Prague has set itself apart from any other city in any other place. You have known war and peace. You have seen empires rise and fall. You have led revolutions in the arts and science, in politics and poetry. Through it all, the people of Prague have insisted on pursuing their own path, and defining their own destiny. And this city - this Golden City which is both ancient and youthful - stands as a living monument to your unconquerable spirit."

Empires rising and falling, destinies being defined and a Golden City standing as a monument to unconquerable spirit... goodness, what a ham. When he really gets going he's worse than Tony Blair."

Martin finishes with this line: "But I'll wager that within a year or so he'll be marked down as a wind-bag." OK .. not I gotcha. You're going to go back and click on the link, aren't you?

What others are saying

  • Arrogant Pretender
I have noticed that 'The Pretender-in-Charge" likes to waggle and point his index finger a lot when making speeches. It reminds me of when I was a child being scolded by a parent or other adult.

Yes, I grew up during the '50s and '60s when you had to be good even if your parents weren't around because you were subject to discipline from any adult that caught you stepping out of line, and when your parents did find out, well, sometimes it wasn't pretty but you always got a reminder that your behavior was unacceptable.

'The Pretender-in-Charge' reminds me of those times and for someone that really doesn't know what he's doing and yet he wants to lecture the country and the world in hope of trying to impress everyone.

I'm not impressed in the least. I am amazed that so many sheeples were taken in by this rube. I don't think its going to work out the way the 52ers thought it would.
  • Glitz
What, is the bright and shiny finally wearing off of the Obamas over there? About bloody time. I'm getting sick and tired of having to read about their Gloriousnesses in the online papers.

It's getting to the point where I can't even look at his picture without getting acid indigestion, and gods help me when I have to hear him start rambling inanely on. Do they still manufacture Seconal? I may require sedation.

And, as I have stated elsewhere (probably in the Archives by now), I don't know who dresses the woman, but she either has a really big rear, or her clothes make her look fat. I am not impressed.
  • spot on, old top
"Windbag" is right....meaningless, flowery speeches....always turning his head and raising his chin...constantly striking poses. What a cheeseball!

Is this guy supposed to be inspiring? Am I supposed to look up to this glorified social worker who can only regurgitate prepared text (even when answering questions)? Nay, I say.
  • What do you think marketing is?
Being able to speak in public and actually say nothing of real value is nothing new. It wasn't even invented by the DNC. I know, it comes as a shock. The ability to dance around a subject(or subjects ) seems to mold the images and legacies of our leaders. On the rare occasion that one of them does say something of value, it's dismissed or spun or digested and then regurgitated to the public. Since we average folks can't begin to comprehend all of that rhetoric. Folks cried for 'Change' and a 'Rockstar'. What they got was a guy who does okay with a teleprompter, not so well of the cuff( who does?) and sure pauses a lot. But he has a 27 year old speechwriter who knows some catchy phrases and buzzwords and throw in that clever 'Change' and 'Hope' mantra and voila: instant media star! If Kato Kalin, Anna Nicole( may she rest in peace)and so many others can be 'stars' without having to prove they have real substance, why can't we have a President who fits the mold?
  • JT
Thanks, that is probably where it was stolen from!!!
  • In a year or so?
I thought he was a windbag during the campaign.
  • Golden City
I liked Reagan"s "shining" city better.
  • Comments
I read comments on many blogs and there is always someone who mentions Rush Limbaughs drug use. Rush got hooked on legal drugs due to taking them for pain not for pleasure. Nobody mentions that Obama bragged in one of his books about smoking weed (marijuana) and doing a little blow (cocaine) when he could afford it in school. Wonder how this affected his grades. No one knows. As for the teleprompter Rush was supposed to give a 30 minute speech to the Republicans. He ended up talking for an hour and a half without a teleprompter.
  • Speech
Without even reading the article or seeing that speech, I will bet anything that was read off a teleprompter with a speech that was crafted by his writers. This man is the emptiest of suits. How naive, how gullible, and how pathetic do you have to be to buy these intellectually insulting and contrived speeches?
  • Who wrote that?
He certainly didn't come up with it. Lefties talk about how articulate he is, but all I hear is "talking to the masses", telling them what they want to hear. This was actually well written. It's full of bull of course, but still well written.
