We are still experiencing fallout from that DHS report about right wing extremists. Janet Napolitano has now decided that she will apologize to veterans after the report says that troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan were at risk of being recruited by right-wing extremists.

A homeland security official says that when the report was sent to the office of civil rights and civil liberties, that it rejected some of the language in the report. But clearly the agency issued it anyway, and it is now being attributed to "a breakdown of the agency's internal process."

Gee, ya think?

But Janet's apology doesn't seem to be enough for some. Republican Rep. Peter King has asked for a hearing to investigate the DHS report about right-wing extremists.

We'll see how far that goes.

What others are saying

  • #1 target for DHS should be Obama then his voters.
#1 target for DHS should be Obama then his voters. Obama's background needs to be scrutinized further, Ayers, Rev. Wright, the way he was raised and his voters all hate the United States and want to hand it over to Terrorist, Dictators, etc.
  • Why does she work for government?
RToo fugly to do anything else.
  • Think again
To Alabamastan, you said, "When Bush was in office, we had strong indications of politically motivated surveillance of perceived "domestic enemies" and I don't remember a reaction this, well, reactionary." Let's keep in mind here that the purpose of this was to keep the bad things in check. Now, when Congress and other facets of the government were affected by these means, what happened? Do you remember the 11 politicians in New Jersey that were busted taking under the table bribes from state contractors? Do you remember the 2 judges in the same state that were caught fixing civil cases(specifically divorces) for money and other acts or property worth certain monetary value? Do you remember what they did? Congress held an emergency session in which the Patriot Act of 2001 was revised to remove the ability of the DoJ and DHS from monitoring their illegal activity. So, the actions of surveillance were doing what they were supposed to do, but because a bunch of Democratic congresspersons were going to get burned for breaking the law they decided to cover their own butts. To say that anything about this situation is "laughable" is a discredit to the intense level of this situation. This is no laughing matter. You had better more serious now than you have EVER been in your life. If you are a veteran, just remember that you swore an oath to defend that very Constitution that they are trying to undermind. You swore to defend the citizens against ALL enemies both foreign and domestic. They want to label you because when you, the only real means this country has to defend itself internally, are gone this civilian national security force will be able to do whatever, whenever and however with little to no resistance. I swear by the grave of my grandfather, who shed his blood during WWII, that I will fight down to the very last breath I have to give. Make no mistake, you cannot be quelled if you are strong enough and have enough endurance. Perseverance and raw determination are the only things that can save you now.
  • got one word for ya..
POLI-CHICKENS.. anger against a group or person is nothing more than fear turned outward. what do you suppose these poli-chickens fear?
  • Rightwing = Non-law abiding?
What a sad document. Also, funny how the economic downturn is presumed to favor the right. How can that be? The reaction to the economic downturn should be toward socialism = that's what the left thinks and is changing this country into. And where is the report on leftwing extremists. OMG they've already infiltrated the White House and Congress! Better keep an eye on that Ayers guy and that Pelosi chick - they have shown some anti-government tendencies in the past, you know.
  • DHS Report
Since when was Rachel Maddow in charge of the DHS?
  • that little change she refers to
I would like a answer to that qustion..what changes in that " foot note" would she make?
    I have more at; ...killpoke.wordpress.com
  • Is anyone surprised?
DHS head Napolitano's resignation would be pointless, this thinking and language comes from the top. She's just the messenger, and is one of the more conservative members of hussein's administration.

The fact that the administration only uses the word "terrorism" in conjunction with "rightwing" is now official policy. If you're islamic you can blow up a children's hospital, and hussein won't call it terrorism. If you're marxist, you can target whoever and whatever you want and it won't be called terrorism by the dp.

Nope, only if you're "rightwing," could you ever do anything that would get you called a "terrorist" by hussein's crew.
I known all along what they really thought of vets, other sevicemenbers, and law enforcement officers too, for that matter. I never bought their "we support the troops," bs, when almost everything they say and do shows condescension and contempt.
  • Hate Crimes
This is just an extension of the "hate crimes" laws the liberals passed a few years ago.

Orwell was only a few years off...

    BEWARE THE THOUGHT POLICE!
  • Great advice
"Stop...being angry at the world about statements in a government document."

Great advice. That really helps us avoid any historical mistakes conducted by other governments. Just ignore what they are doing, and assume everything is fine.
  • step down
The left always calls for people on the right to step down when this kind of thing happens. Its only fair that Janet Nopatriotano step down as well.

This characterization of conservatism as "extremism" is fascist and reminiscent of Hitler's actions during his rise to power. Obama should have disavowed this.. but of course he "distanced" himself form it.. just like he did ayers and wright.. and you know what that means right? HE AGREES WITH IT.
  • To abnrdo:
    You said:
    Veterans as targets
Homeland Security should be worried about Veterans. We have taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the Uniteds States from all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. The Constitution LIMITS which government????
    By abnrdo @ 04/17/09 09:10:14 AM
    **************************

I say that is exactly why you are now considered to be a threat to "their" security. Because you know what the Constitution stands for and are sworn to protect it, you might become an obstruction in their quest for a NWO.

Just a few years ago I would've dismissed my statement as lunacy, but with the things I've seen happen so far, I'm really starting to believe that something wicked this way comes.
  • I warned you.....
To the regular readers/posters (specifically our left of center friends), I warned you that every time you guys brought up that "But Bush did it too" crap that I was gonna remind you that the man YOU elected said he was gonna bring about CHANGE. Well if you were pissed that George W. did it then have the b*lls to admit that you're pissed that the administration YOU support is doing it too. Anything less proves beyond a reasonable doubt that you're a hypocrite.
  • quandary
Why are female Democrat bureaucrats ugly as hell and bitchy? This doesn't jibe, considering female Democrat voters are typically attractive and ultra-slutty.
  • Apology
When someone says they owe you an apology they have not appologized, they have issued an IOU.
  • YOUR GUBMINT IZ WATCHIN'
with a stinking marxist muslim inna whitehouse, a hippy in the house, a crook in the senate what the hell do you 'xpect?

ol jefferson said 'sumpin 'bout the tree of liberty needs a lil' blood now and then. what's wrong with now?

of course we get the stinking scum sucking politicians we deserve and we send them back again and again!

    DRIP don't return incumbent politicians.
  • Apology
As a veteran (US Army 1971-1977)I was unimpressed with the apolgy.
  • The Peter Principle Personified
Janet is a disgrace, and it won't be long before even leftards see through her buffoonery. As Governor, she spent years complaining about federal government inaction on the border while doing absolutely nothing herself. Expect at least one more 9/11 under her watch at DHS. The best thing she could do for America is resign.
  • DHS report
We don't want her apology. We want her resignation.
  • Rejected some of the language?
What does that mean? Did they disagree with the statement or the word?

Kind of makes the apology like "I'm sorry you're so ugly..."
  • a man in drag....
and a BAD one at that. yikes!!
  • @ Stan Gable's "Go outside."
We did on April 15th. You know what our leaders called us for doing so?

    Right-Wing Extremists.

Know what the news media called us on that day?

    Right-wing Extremists.

What does the report that DHS released the day before the rallies warn about?

    Right-Wing Extremists.

    Don'tcha think there's a bit of a pattern there? I don't think we're welcome outside. Do you?
  • DHS report
Folks, I find it laughable that people want an apology or even her resignation , that will not change a thing. The Ho'Bama administration has shown its cards, this is their fundamental position. The conservatives and libertarians our viewed as their enemy in achieving what they want, make no mistake this was merely the opening salvo, they are laying the groundwork. It WILL get worse. I think in the near future lines will be drawn and there will be 3 choices you will have to make.1. acquiesce 2. Fight 3. leave.
  • Apologize to the Vets?
What about those of us who believe in the rule of law or peacefully object to the way our government is currently being run?

This is like apologizing for the lesser of several crimes.

I read the report several times. At no point does it define what a right-wing extremist is, but it does leave it wide open to include anybody who believes Roe vs Wade was wrong, that the first, second and tenth amendments are still important, that our current immigration laws should actually be enforced and so on.

My beliefs are not a crime.
  • Wowie!
Holy Black Ops Helicopters, you folks are letting your paranoia run away with you! Take a breath.

When Bush was in office, we had strong indications of politically motivated surveillance of perceived "domestic enemies" and I don't remember a reaction this, well, reactionary.

Homeland Security (and, by the way, when the Government first came up with this idea, I didn't like it for the potential for abuse of power) is constantly coming out with threat assessment reports. This one has been latched onto by some who hope for political gain.

Try to keep your paranoia in check. I did for the last eight years.
  • Apology?
Apology ... we are not weak enough to let this dizzy nut case bother our patriotism. Vets, young and old, are ready to protect our freedom.
Maybe if she and her bunch concentrated on their job instead of trying to destroy this Country, we wouldn't be in this death spiral.
  • Anyone Else Notice...
That Napolitano has no problem with using the terms "right wing extremists" and the word terrorism when talking about right wing groups, however, she was quick to change the verbiage for Islamic terrorism to "Man Made Disasters" and to the war on terror as "Overseas Contingency Operation". So, let's review:

    Islamic Terrorism=Man Made Disasters

Potential action by right wing groups=terrorism.

    Any questions?

Oh, and Stan Gable, you're coming on here and spouting off nonsense about conservatives needing to go outside. Can you say hypocrite?
  • This is a big deal...
This is part of a bigger plan. Right now the ONLY thing slowing down the plans of the elite in the country are the "right wing extremists" that are constantly outting the elitists agenda. All my fellow "right wing extremists" need to make sure you are watching Lou Dobbs and giving Alex Jones an occasional listen. These men know what is going on.
  • Lost my breakfast...
Aaagh -- my eyes -- please don't post these photos so early in the morning. For a minute I thought that was Donna Shalala!
  • DHS
No excuse is credible, no apoligy is accecptible, we are now more at risk from Obama's gestapo than we are from outsiders.
I demand her resignation, this incompetent and arrogent fool
  • no apology necessary
This is John Boenner trying to make political hay out af a serious subject. The report didn't say that ALL vets would be likely to join dangerous right wing groups, it said that extremists might target returning vets. If you jump on this, you're being played.
  • Watch your behind
I have read over most of your comments. I am glad to see that most of us are in agreeance that this is a gateway statement to things to come. Despite the fact that you might not pose a threat to this administration, you are a perceived threat. For that reason, you must become a threat. Lynn Cooke, my Kempo instructor, once said, "The man that hesitates will meditate from a horizontal position." This is to say that if you stop to think about it, you will be thinking about it on your back. What is operational risk management? Doesn't it state that if the benefits outweigh the consequences that the goal must be achieved? You are about to go under attack. I am not a militia member, but I am a father and a husband. Any threat against me is a threat against my family. In the words of my father, "You might get what you want, but I promise you ain't gonna want what you get." If they want a war, I'm ready. It is not a threat, it is a promise of things to come if they get close enough to me. I am a military trained expert marksman and a close quarters hand-to-hand combat tactics instructor. They trained me and I will use that training to defend my home and family. All bets aside, only 2% of the American population could kill someone, according to a published study a couple of years ago. Just know that I'm not in the 98%!

Price-Less, Thanks, You Made My Day. Austin Powers Flashed Before My Eyes. I Needed A Good Laugh.
  • Wah wah wah
Quit being dorks. Get over this. Stop watching Fox News and being angry at the world about statements in a government document. Go outside.
  • Napolitano
    It's a man, baby!
  • Washington
Just like everyone else in Washington, too little too late.

    2010 out with them all
  • Veterans as targets
Homeland Security should be worried about Veterans. We have taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the Uniteds States from all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. The Constitution LIMITS which government????
  • Napolitano's Non Apology
She said, "To the extent veterans read it as an accusation ... an apology is owed". See what she did? She put the onus on the veterans that they read it as an accusation, rather than that her agency made the accusation. "An apology is owed"? O.K. I'm waiting.
  • Pissed Off
Whether the claims were substantiated or not, at least they know that we're pissed off enough for them to justify creating an "assessment" warning against violent attacks.

I see this as a step involved in trying to reinforce the liberal demand of taking away our right to bear arms. I can see it now, "oh, well we warned you about these extremists...if WE take away their guns, then maybe we can suppress some of this violence that we're afraid of". It's obvious that there are ulterior motives just be looking at the language in the document.

    What a joke!
  • DHS Report
All this sounds a bit too much like Janet Reno and could lead to more blunders by the FBI and BATF. After all, April 19th is only 2 days away. I'm glad this memo was leaked. We know they track all radical groups in the US. But to single out so call right wing groups and ignoring or not mentioning the leftist eco-terrorists that are actually running operations is blatantly partisan.
  • Geeze..!
That woman is horse-ugly! Boortz, couldn't you find a more flattering pic? Where do they find these people... her, Janet Reno, Princess Pelosi... Its like something out of a bad horror movie.
  • what's that smell?
"a breakdown of the agency's internal process."

Hmm. A report has language that the civil rights group within the DHS objects to, but the report is rushed out anyway. What event(s) could possibly have caused such hurried action? Hmm. You don't suppose that the Tea Parties had anything to do with it, do you?
  • apology
Neal, apologizing for the language used does not apologize for the intent - which appears to remain the same.
