Are you as pumped as I am? About Earth Day, that is. This is like Christmas Day to OwlGore. Princess Pelosi wants to make sure that this time next year, America is celebrating the expansion of our imperial federal government. But don't worry ...it will all be in the name of climate change!

Barack Obama and the Democrats are determined to make people more dependent on the government. This is how they retain power. I've been telling you this was on the way for ten years .. and here we are. There really isn't enough bandwidth to cover all of the grand government expansion plans the Democrats have right now. One, of course, is government healthcare. Another is creating a massive government system to regulate climate change. With "global warming" legislation comes the promise of new welfare programs. After all, it is a proven fact that climate change legislation is going to increase the cost of energy in this country. But this isn't a concern to Democrats for two reasons. One .. because ignorant voters will continue to vote for them based on the fact that they brought real change to our government and are trying to prevent the world from a total meltdown! The other is because the Democrats will create entitlement programs to ensure that the poor, poor pitiful poor and the parasite (Democrat) class do not see any energy cost increases.

Pretty clever, huh? But Nancy and her minions are determined to pass climate change legislation this year.

Meanwhile, our government schools are ensuring that we are raising a generation completely brainwashed into believing in this man-made global warming hoax. A new survey shows that one out of every three American children between the ages of six and 11 fear that our planet will not exist when they grow up. Guess who is the most anxious about an Al Gore-scripted apocalypse? Minority children. 75% of black children and 65% of Hispanic children believe that the earth will be "irrevocably damaged" by the time they are adults. Your government at work.

I guess South Carolina's James Clyburn is right ... global warming does seem to affect minorities more than whites.

What others are saying

  • Caution! New light bulb problem.
Those new light bulbs in the market that saves you money and energy to suposely reduse green house gases are actualy dangerous. If the CFL light bulb breaks it contains mecury content that can be harmful! The EPA has complicated steps on how to clean up the toxic mess. In my house there are CFLs light bulbs! AHHHHHH!!!! To late...
  • Moron
KJ, you're an f'ing moron. I'm a libertarian and find your comment offensive. Wastefulness just for the sake of wastefulness is just plain stupid. All you're doing is wasting your own money you jackass.
  • How I spend Earth Day?
    I spent Earth Day by:
    * Turning on all the lights in my house

    * Running my air conditioning longer by lowering my thermostat and opening the windows

    * Idling my car an extra hour while listening to Neal Boortz in my car

    * Filled my car up with premium gasoline (despite the fact my car does not need it) in the afternoon ensuring I topped off my tank

    * Teaching my kids Earth day is nothing but a ploy by the Eco-Marxist left to destroy capitalism and strip hard working Americans of their liberty and freedom
  • Greg
I think you're getting caught up in semantics. The fact of the matter is, fossil fuels will not be available forever, so now is the time to find new ways to meet our energy needs. As of now, I have not seen anything that will even get us close. Yes, nuclear is one part of the solution but even it has limitations so I think it's time for the scientific community to really think outside the box and come up with some real solutions.
  • This stuff really does stick in kids minds.
Look at me, Im 22 and can't stop trying to shoot those "Waskely Wabbits".LOL What happened to good old classic Violent cartoons, now they all have a hidden agenda.
  • "Earth" Day
    Nah ... it's Lenin's birthday!!!!
  • original Earth Day introduction, March 25, 1963
This was the VERY BEGINNING of the ENTIRE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT. While it has it's good intentions, many items which were carried out in the 70's for the good - remember the crying Indian? - you can easily equate the original statement to how far it has intruded and digressed with the left... give them an inch they'll take a mile, like a chil'.

Item 2: RID ourselves of the five most heavily used product...
    Item 5: regulate offshore drilling
Item 9: establishment of a national minerals and resources policy

    Read the bio page...
    link: http://web.missouri.edu/~webberd/Nelson.html

    --EXCERPT--
In 1962, Governor (Gaylord) Nelson defeated Senator Alexander Wiley, a Republican who had served 24 years, and Senator Nelson began an 18 year career in Congress. He gained an appointment to the Senate Interior and Insular Affairs Committee allowing him to pursue his natural resources interests. On March 25, 1963, Nelson made his first speech before the U.S. Senate in support of a bill to ban detergents from water supplies. After describing the magnitude of the detergent pollution problem, some 3.8 billion pounds used each year resulting in serious foaming of rivers and lakes, Nelson commented on government's efforts to preserve the environment. "We need a comprehensive and nationwide program to save the national resources of America," he said. "We cannot be blind to the growing crisis of our environment. Our soil, our water, and our air are becoming more polluted every day. Our most priceless natural resources--trees, lakes, rivers, wildlife habitats, scenic landscapes--are being destroyed."

On January 19, 1970, Senator Nelson delivered a major speech in the Senate presenting his "environmental agenda," consisting of 11 items many of which he accomplished during his career. The first item was his proposal for a constitutional amendment that read: "Every person has the inalienable right to a decent environment. The United States and every State shall guarantee this right." Next, he proposed that immediate action "to rid America in the 1970s of the massive pollution from five of the most heavily used product of our affluent age." These five are: internal combustion engine, hard pesticides, detergent pollution, aircraft pollution, and nonreturnable containers.

The third item on his agenda was to enhance the quality of life by establishing family planning. Fourth, creating a new environmental advocacy agency to involve citizens in environmental policy activities. Fifth, reduce ocean pollution by regulating oil drilling. Sixth, establish an environmental education program for all levels of education. Seventh, the development of mass transit to reduce the use of private automobiles. Eight, adoption of a national land use policy involving all levels of government to reduce the chaotic, unplanned combination of urban sprawl, industrial expansion, and air, water, land, and visual pollution. Ninth, establishment of a national minerals and resources policy that encourages wise use and conservation. Tenth, establishment of national air and water quality policies. Eleventh, creation of a nonpartisan national environmental political action organization which encourages public involvement at all levels of government.
  • Research
has shown that north america has had an ice age about every 12,000 years. Not sure when the next one is. So, given that, who the hell cares about GLOBAL WARMING? I'll tell you, it's those government thugs that want your money and will get it by hook or by crook with cap and trade, higher taxes on everything, inflation (another government created tax), death tax, increased tax on your retirement (401's 457's etc) and anything else they can come up with.
When will we put a stop to it?
  • Industrial Revolution Day.
I forget where I saw it, but someone had started an "Industrial Revolution Day" as a counterpoint to all this "Earth Day" foolishness. Sounds like a good idea to me.

The thing that really worries me is that when all this Globull Warming stuff is revealed as bunk, it's going to discredit the concern over real issues. Like toxic waste in the lakes...
  • Earth Day (This one's for you copyleft)
Today is my day to cut down trees to make firewood for next winter.

To keep costs down I do it the old fashion way, with an axe and two-man saws.

Heck, the way Obama's running the country I may need to look into a mule team to haul the timber out.

I'm betting that more people will be using firewood next winter, so I'll butcher a few dozen more just for your sake!

How about that, snuf out some trees and increase carbon emissions when they get burned.

    Happy Earth Day indeed!
  • earth day
I made sure I enjoyed earth day to the fullest. I drive my 4x4 Diesel truck to the airport where I cranked up my piston powered airplane and flew all around
Atlanta admiring the beautiful earth from 3000 feet!!
  • Gavin knock it off!
You're not making any sense today buddy.

back to subject: the scientist can't even agree on this subject so why are we basing policy decisions on it?

I'm for getting off oil but only because it'll weaken the Middle East hold. So how bout a drill here and keep it here approach to support our economy WHILE we are working toward other means of power. None of this carbon tax credit crap or increasing the ethanol requirements, just legitimate research and then LOGICAL implementation that doesn't endanger our economy.

Politicians can't even agree on the effect all these green policies will have. One minute it's creating jobs, the next report out says it's losing two jobs for every one created.

    Stupid
  • Science
The study of science is ever evolving. Dr Gold is just one example of one theory. That what most science is, theories. There are a growing number of scientists within the petroleum community that are not convinced that oil and gas is produced by decaying plant life millions of years ago. I am not saying we as a people should not develop new energy technologies, let,s just not throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak. I would love to drive my "Star Wars" type speeder fueled by nuclear power someday.
  • Earth Day Indoctrination and Disney Channel
I was watching cartoons with my 2 year old this morning. It was on the Disney channel and they had this little bit in between the shows - there was a little kid narrating:
"If I was the earth, I'd hate cars. Their gases make me sick and the gasoline they use make me real tired. I would love bicycles though. I wish everyone drove bicycles."
I may not have it word for word, but pretty close. And I thought indoctrination was only in the public schools, not my beloved Mickey Mouse!
  • Andre
I couldn't agree with you more. Nuclear energy is going to be one of the only ways to reduce our fossil fuel dependency. Wind fields, geothermal, etc...can't even come close to providing the amount of energy we need to continue life as we know it.

Also GEOLOGIST, does anyone in the scientific community actually believe that Dr. Gold theory has any weight. I mean, I understand that it may be possible for petroleum to be formed via natural processes deep within the earth, but is it plausable?
  • Fossil fuels won't suddenly end on a given day!
"There is only a finite amount of fossil fuels and one day, whether it be 50 years from now or 150, we are going to run out."

No, it won't just happen on any given day. Instead, as fossil fuels become harder to reach, supply-and-demand will drive the price up. This has the side effect of making alternatives like solar power look viable. People will start to shift to them, without outright converting 100% to them. As prices in fossil fuel continue to rise, ability to develop economies of scale in new options will grow, and we will be able to gradually migrate to something more sustainable.

That is the free market picking winners and losers. However, when the government steps in, picks winners and losers, EVERYTHING gets politicized. After all, politicians are really only vying to get re-elected.
  • Naderchaser
    Well said.

In addition + Stop deforesting the planet.

TREES = less carbon dioxide + more oxygen in addition to shade = cooler temps.
  • During the Carter years
we had two or three years of extremely cold winters. The eco freaks jumped on this as "proof" that we were heading toward another ice age and it was because of the greenhouse effect of all this oil we were burning.

Now, during the Obama years (and I'm sure there will me MANY other parallels with Carter) we are having a crises called "global warming" and once again it's because of all the oil we're burning.

There is a billboard with two check boxes. Beside one it says; do nothing. Beside the other it says; stop global warming. I've actually taken a picture of it so in 20 years I can pull it out and show everyone just as we are about to enter the next ice age...
  • CELEBRATE EARTHDAY in redneckvill-big friggin yahoo...
I'm gonna to start by turning on all the lights in the house and get out all my christmas lights too cause I didn't get to use them this christmas(I didn't want to offend the atheist). Then I'm gonna start my car,my fourwheeler,my bassboat and let it idle till it runs out of gas. Then I'm gonna drink carbonated, adult beverages to release the co2 into the air and maybe punch a hole in my airconditioner to release that ozone destroying freon all while watchin'NASCAR Races and have a bonfire with the leaves, trash and dead cats picked up in the neighborhood.Yep,thats how we celebrate earthday around here..oops gota go, I think one of those dam cats run unda the trailer and set fire to it,guess I'd better get my gun and a water hose.
  • Earth Day ... lamestream media coverage
I find it very interesting...and somewhat disturbing...that I could hardly find an opposing view of the "science of global warming"...and I know that those opinions exist...

So is Journalism Dead?! Are we relegated to just being TOLD what to think and then derided when we DARE to disagree? It's funny, but I find the most outraged supporters of (the issue or) Global Warming are those that get their "news" from Entertainment Tonight and People Magazine...

...suffice it to say I haven't bought in to the measurement of temperature increases that are taken on the tarmac's or next to the heat pumps outside the weather reporting stations...

    FWIW...
  • ClubLibHater
He's on the side of you Bush fans. Seeing his drivel day after day has to hurt. Knowing he believes in the same things as many of you -- LOL.

  • Sky and Telescope Magazine - Sunspot Article
March 2009 issue, It is a Hard Science review of sunspot activity in relation to global temperature.
This is not easy reading, but it is the information that gasbags refer to when trying to distort public opinion one way or the other.
  • @naderchaser
This is why we should be pursuing nuclear power.
  • Earth Day Barbeque
I aways buy loads of Charcoal and barbeque on Earth Day...of course I have to mow the lawn with my gas mower, trim the sidewalk with my gas weed wacker and then after eating steaks we sit around with the AC going and the door open and drink beer and fart all afternoon...it is my favorite holiday.
  • Fossil Fuels
To the naysayers please read Dr. Golds book "Deep Hot Biosphere" for a different perspective on how oil and gas were formed
  • Greg@, Yep...We're gonna' freeze to death!
I was also told in 6th grade that the next ice age was coming, and within 15 years we would be living in snow and darkness year round. It scared me half to death. Thank goodness my parents had brains and told me that wasn't going to happen. Sure enough, 15 years later I wasn't frozen in a block of ice, and was enjoying beautiful weather. I vowed not to allow myself to be hoodwinked like that again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all those who home school, or private school their children. I know God will richly bless you for it. Every home schooled and private schooled person I know is an exceptional human being.
  • Doesn't Matter
It doesn't matter whether you believe global warming exists or not. The fact of the matter is, this planet will not be able to continue to support the amount of life it currently does if we continue to consume natural resources at the rate we currently are. There is only a finite amount of fossil fuels and one day, whether it be 50 years from now or 150, we are going to run out. The only reason we have been able to increase the number of humans on this planet to the current levels is because of fossil fuels. Once we run out, that's it, there is no more. So whether you believe in global warming or not, conservation should be on all of our minds.

As a teacher, I am one who refuses to teach my students to believe in this crap. Thankfully, it isn't required teaching at my grade level, but any time a student brings it up I am certain to discuss the opposite view. My students are always shocked to find out that there are scientists (as opposed to Al Gore) who disagree with this junk. That's why I'm here...to enlighten!
  • Really?
Are we supposed to believe that kids even know what 'irrevocably' means.

Greenie weenies can screw off. Be sure to do one or all of these things today:

    * fill up your gas tank and purposely drive extra miles

    * start a bonfire
    * eat foods that will make you fart
    * run all of your appliances
    * spray aerosol cans

I'd be willing to wager that 90% of all government-educated kids don't know what the word "irrevocably" means.
  • Who cares?
Who cares whether or not Global warming is real? We all know the earth is messed up somehow. Hot girls like Earth Day. Therefore everyone should like Earth Day. Unless you have a stick jammed so far up there you refuse to consider that the climate is changing.
  • Left Coast Treehugger Land
    Happy Lenin's Birthday!!!

This year the 43rd Rhododendron parade may be a bit scarcer then previous years as far as the flowers because the blooms are still in the bud. It must be global warming... errr Climate change. If you ever want to see damage to the environment just go to an area after an environmental protest ends.
  • Say what?
I'm sorry, if someone with credibility and no agenda were to demonstrate clear evidence that we A) have really changed the climate to begin with and B) can actually reverse climate change...I might feel guilty. I recycle, use realtively little energy, and am always concious of the environment( for the slower among us...I'm a landscaper, 35 years ). But the Earth Day movement is being used to push a political angle on us. Proof? Al Gore...politician, law degree, no background in environmental service or anything related to climate. Won a Nobel Prize over a woman who helped Jews escape Nazi death camps. Credibility? Consensus among scientists, there isn't one, never has been, never will be. The so called 'Green movement' has hamstrung my industry and believes more needs to be done. And Earthing...the 'chicks' I know are more turned on by the idea that I don't have much tolerance for this B.S. They shave their legs, too.
  • @Copy
I have to agree with you here. I have all of my lights on(my energy savers) "in spirit," but not in reality. There is no way I am going to spend money to piss off environmentalist. It is just stupid.
The best way to "protest" it to just ignore it. Go about your daily life the way you normally would.

I would also like to comment on these scary statistics... Kids believe what ever you tell them. Be careful who you let educate your children.

When I was in public schooling, I can remember the teachers were preaching that we were returning to the Ice Age, and we needed to cut back on our consumption of energy to stop this, We were in the 4th grade and had the thermostat set back to 65 deg. There was one teacher, He refused to turn down his thermostat and even raised it. All of the other teachers met to discuss his daring to refuse. Ah but dissention is only good when used by the left. I can look back on this today and see how easily people are manipulated to strange ideals by the many inputs that organise to put across a point of view/agenda. Given enough time common sence usually prevails and the notion fades until the next crisis can be manufactured or exploited. Remember boys and girls its all about control. Class dismissed.

I just re-read "Somebody's Gotta Say It" this school thing just seems to be getting worse with all the scare tactics about Global Warming. Not to mention that they just don't teach the kids anything.

Maybe it's just me but 12 and 13 year old kids should be confronted with harder questions than what unit of measure would you use to determine the length of a pencil?????? I'm thinking meters or miles. Some math class.

Oh, and the latest thing with the Weekly Folders? They love to give updates about the "class average". Who gives a s***. I'm only concerned about one average, my kids'.
