Slobbering Barney Frank has never held a private sector job in his life. That might explain why this man holds the private sector in such disdain. Just two weeks ago, he was up there in Washington spitting nails about these AIG bonuses and how the government needed to "recover" this money. But people finally came to their senses and the bill quietly died.

But the latest move from the House Financial Services Committee .. which is led by Sylvester the Chairman has approved legislation that could be even more outrageous than the 90% tax on bailout bonuses. This new legislation is called the "Pay for Performance Act of 2009." Pay for performance? Since when has the government been one to pay anyone based on level of performance? If Barney is so hot about paying for performance, why not apply that to teachers in government schools? For right now Barney's legislation would impose government control on the pay of all employees at companies that have received bailout money from the government. The controls would be retroactive. That would mean that our government could walk into one of these workplaces, pick out one employee, and tell him that he has to "give back" some of the money he has already received.

So tax cheat Timothy Geithner - a government hack - will be determining the pay of thousands of employees of private American companies. Not only that, but the government will come up with the way in which to evaluate employee performance. And what is the excuse, according to the bill? In order to "prohibit unreasonable and excessive compensation and compensation not based on performance standards."

OK .. I know what you're saying. You think that Barney is serious when he says it would only be limited to companies receiving bailout funds. You may have been born at night, but was it last night? You really don't see that Barney and Friends would soon be looking for a way to extend these compensation controls to the rest of our economy? Look ... they have already put a floor on compensation with minimum wage laws. Why should they not believe they can install a ceiling?

What others are saying

  • Rep. Barney Frank
THIS TIME you've definitely crossed the line, Boortz!
In your typical rude way, you've poked fun at something that the Congressman has no control over---a personal physical trait. Disgraceful.
  • How does he do it?
I mean, he's a proven liar, known to be corrupt, yet here he is again with yet another blowhard, unconsitutional bill. How does Frank get away with it time and time again?
  • Performance - based Pay?
So what did that collective of clods and perverts in Congress do 5to deserve a salary of $174,000.00 plus 100% free healthcare, a full pension after two terms, and all the perks and graft you can sneak past the press?

When do we get to demand some of our money back from THESE losers?
  • BF
    Neal,
"... impose government control on the pay of all employees at companies that have received bailout money from the government." Translation: If your company takes a loan from a bank that received bailout funds your company received a bailout.
  • what we need
I think what we need is a very good lawyer, well versed in the constitution, with a set of cojones to sue this administration based on constitutional grounds. I think I'd even contribute a few dollars to his/her retainer.
  • solution to gubmint abuse
barnyard frankfooter is anal leakage, pun intended?
the morons of MA keep sending him to D.C. they should send him packing, oh wait he is already behind that idea.
  • If only....
If only we had "pay for performance" with government jobs. That would save a LOT of tax dollars!!

P.S. What's up with the security checker? I have to do it like 2-3 times everytime before it works.
  • Barney Frank
Referring to this guy as "Sylvester" is an insult to the cartoon cat and Mel Blanc.
  • So the states are getting wads of cash from the Feds
does this mean Barney can dicktate how much state employees make?
  • Pay for Performance
Surely the unions will never go for such pay cuts.
  • Congress and Pay Caps
I would like to know where in the Constitution it says Congress can interfere with private sector business and set pay caps? For all you folks who may be for this nonsense just wait until the governmaent comes after your paychesk. How long before the government dictates to all corporatins that they can no longer reward the good employees with a little extra called a bonus? Why in the world aren't the people of this counrty up in arms and marching on DC with pitchforks and torches? OMG, we are all just like sheep being lead to slaughter.
  • Sounds like Card Check for All
If the government thinks they can start setting wage rates and performance management systems throughout the private sector, what I see coming is employee unions and union rules everywhere. I wonder exactly how big Barney's payoff from the unions was????? Or maybe they have him on a "pay for performance" system...
  • Barney Frank
Not only could Barney ask someone to give back money already earned but he could lower their wages going forward. He could also say taht certain individuals are underpaid and demand that they get a raise. This is a short road to the equal pay for equivalent work nonsense that liberals have been spouting lately.

Why doesn't Barney just go whole hog and decide what each citizen should do for a living and how much they should make?

The problem with our system of government is that this hack can make national laws and regulations, that effect everyone, while only representing a small portion of the population, i.e. the liberal wackos in Boston that elect him.
  • Like I've been saying; it will not be long before everyone makes $50K from the person cleaning the toilets to the one running the company.

Stepcousin, his chin isn't the only place Barney's been taking it...
  • Pay for Performance
Buddy in Huntsville - I am afraid you are probably very correct. With this thing stretched to cover any company that receives any part of the stimulus package, would there be anyone left NOT under government control?
  • Wage Controls?
Hey, Barney! Is that a huge bag of dope in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? Do you or anyone remember the wage/price freeze of the Nixon administration? While it seemed to initially work, and the public reacted to "government taking control" of inflation and unemployment, it only led to more severe inflation due to increased pressure on the artificially low prices of goods and services, a great portion of which is wages. And that was caused by a "conservative" president. Supply dropped in response to reduced profitability, which raised prices, which brought us the WIN button.

If nothing else, the democrat congress and the president should avoid wage control because a republican has already proved its uselessness.
  • Barney
All through the Clinton administration, we heard talk about making salaries above a certain level non-deductible for any company. After all, a CEO, president, etc., could not possibly be worth that much more than an uneducated assembly worker, could he?

This is a new tactic, but the same goal -- limit executive pay for every company. With a leftist congress and radical leftist president, I expect limits to pass in some form.
  • Comrade Barney, Commissar of the Wage and Price Collective
The most beffiting end to Barney Frank would be that he were discovered "tango uniform" following an out-of-control gay sex orgy. Killer gerbils!
  • Barney and Pay for Performance
It will be extended to more areas of the economy through legislation requiring it of any company or organization receiving Federal Money...corporations, schools, etc. Soon we will all be on the same pay scale as the Military or the Civil Service...without the security of a job-for-life.
  • Should let this bill pass...
so that those employees who voted for democrats in this past election can start using their head when the next election come around. Change...change...change....They voted for democrats, and this is the pay-off. Nice.
  • poor guy
Don't be so hard-on Barney. He's been taking it on the chin quite a bit lately.
  • Problem Don
"When are people going to wake up? How about some "earning limits" on those who spend our money? How about we set their pay based upon "performance"? At the rate they're going they would owe the taxpayer quite a bit!"
    By Don R

Problem is, they wouldn't pay it! Anymore than they don't pay their taxes. Good idea though.
  • Our duly elected representatives ...
duly sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States - don't know diddly-squat about the Constitution of the United States.

These duly elected representatives now assert that they are capable of running for-profit corporations. The United States government is 11 trillion dollars in debt.

    What's wrong with this picture?
  • Race Factor on the Radio
I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I wrote a blog about this article last night. Couldn't keep myself in control. Here's a link if you'd like to read it:

  • Do as I say not as I do
These clowns want to tell private companies how to pay out bonuses yet they gave their aides $9.1 million on bonuses last year.
  • Another foot in the door
When are people going to wake up? How about some "earning limits" on those who spend our money? How about we set their pay based upon "performance"? At the rate they're going they would owe the taxpayer quite a bit!
  • Directive number 10-289
Each day it sounds more and more like Directive number 10-289 is being announced.
  • Pay for performance
OK, put some extra pay in the military pay for performing what most of the bums in DC were and are afraid to do!
  • Mr. Frank goes to Washington
Can we put the Congress on a pay for performance plan too?
  • Question to all the leftists trolls:
What exactly do you Dhimicraps consider yourselves to be – Socialists or Fascists?

    Maybe a hybrid of both?

    Inquiring minds want to know.
  • Minimum pay
You have accepted that congress can set minimum pay standards. So now they have finally come up with maximum pay standards. The government has no business telling anyone how much to pay for anything or how to run their business. This is what comes from "TOLERANCE" for socialist ideas. Intolerance is what we need now.
  • Pay for Performance
"you should not get rich off public money, and you should not get rich off of abject failure." Hi Pot, meet Kettle.
  • Private?
Sorry Neal, but these are no longer private companies. They are now government sponsored corporations.

If they wanted to keep their status as a private company then they should of just filed for bankruptcy.
  • Performance incentives
Barney Frank is a great example of a guy who has never actually run anything. Not as a businessman. He was shooting first and not wanting to ask questions later. Another beauracrat who can't find his rear end with both hands( why, oh why did I use that analogy?). And he thinks the role of the Government is to dictate CEO and top level management pay to the companies that get bailouts. What kind of talent can you get when you're competing with Fortune 500 companies for the same people? Way to think that one through, Barn. It's easy to see why you're such a big hit with the Pages. Lookin' out for the little guy, eh?
  • Horrible Ideas
Why is it that Barney Frank has his name attached to some of the worst ideas in congress? Please people of the 4th in Mass. wake up and vote this guy out! He was one of the loudest voices in congress to laugh at McCain when he said "the fundamentals of the economy are sound" dugin the campaign, but just a few months before said that Fanny and Freddie were "safe investments"... Puulease!
  • experience
didn't Barney run a brothel out of his home at one time? or does that only count as a hobby?
  • "Pay for Performance Act of 2009."
Let's apply this ACT to all Government Employees. Let's start with Congress. We pay their salaries with taxpayer dollars, right? So we taxpayers should be able to determine their compensation, based on their performance. And of course, in keeping with current trends, it would be retroactive. B. Frank and C. Dodd would have to payback thousands for years of incompetence. P BO wouldn't be able to cash the first check.
  • Barney
Neal....I'm seeing a big resemblance to Barney the dinosaur from PBS in the picture. Photo-shop him purple and start putting text balloons about being "fair" and "sharing", you might see it to!
