Well .. here we go. This is the day for the media "100 Days" orgy. Let's face it, if you're a right-of-center journalist or pundit you are not going to give him very high marks. If you're left-of-center he is going to be the BPE (Best President Ever) for these seemingly magic first 100 days.

The media loves Obama. Studies show that he has received more positive media coverage in his first 100 days than Clinton and Bush combined. This is easy to understand. The media had a large part in creating Barack Obama. Bernie Goldberg had it right with the title of his book, "A Slobbering Love Affair." Since the media had a large part in creating Obama, accepting the fact that he is less than a stellar president constitutes an admission that the media got it wrong. Not gonna happen.

So .. just how do you grade these first 100 days? Do you judge Obama by the goals he set for himself? Or do you judge him by what you would have liked for him to do. From Obama's perspective, the first 100 days have been immensely successful.

Obama wanted to begin a new era of dependence on government, and that he has done. Across this country there are people just sitting and waiting for Obama to come rescue them from their own fiscal irresponsibility. Just yesterday I was reading you stories from local politicians about constituents waiting for Obama to cover their house payments or past-due electric bills.

Obama wanted to go on a world apology tour. Lord knows he was a raging success with that. He's been all over the place apologizing for the horrible sins of the United States. Ours is a nation that twice saved Europe. Ours is the nation that kept the Soviet Union at bay for decades, and finally defeated them. Yeah ... we have a lot to apologize for. Obama took care of that nicely.

Obama wanted to denigrate the private sector and present government as the solution to all problems great and small. Another raging success. After 100 days of Barack Obama the newspapers and magazines are full of stories about the death of capitalism and the evils of the private sector. Government is definitely in right now. The man who gravitated toward Marxist student groups and professors during his college years has done his old friends proud.

So .. based on just those three factors Barack Obama has been a marvelous success over these first 100 days. However ... if you have dreams or expectations that your children might have the same opportunities to work hard, achieve and excel in this country; if you think that your children will be able to use their talents to create wealth and use that wealth to create a lifestyle free of financial stress .. these first 100 days have been a disaster. If you believe that America's greatness comes from the incredible dynamic of free people working cooperatively with one another in an society based on the rule of law with individual and economic freedom, then this first 100 days has been a train wreck.

You believe in socialism? A great first 100 days.

You believe in capitalism? A horrible first 100 days.

You believe in individualism? A bad first 100 days.

You believe in collectivism? A grand first 100 days.

You're proud of your country? A depressing first 100 days.

You think your country is the focus of evil? A wonderful first 100 days.

You believe in federalism? The first 100 days were a disaster.

You believe in an omnipotent federal government? The first 100 days were wonderful.

You think a president should be elected on substance? Bad first 100.

You think a president should be elected on style? Great first 100.

Perhaps you can add to the list through your comments.

But for those of you who are still in the mode of "yes we can" ... here's a little insensitivity for ya. It looks like other world leaders have jumped on Obama's bandwagon of "change."

Noon to 1pm ET Thursday we'll have a roundtable discussion about Obama's first 100 days. That should be fun!

What others are saying

  • obama a legal citizen
let us impeach obama and then deport him
  • Obama Tag
No joke, I saw a new Mercedes C-Class about 2 weeks ago with a personalized license plate that said, "09OBAMA". This brainwashing is scarier than I thought.
  • You missed on one point, Neal
"You think a president should be elected on substance? Bad first 100. You think a president should be elected on style? Great first 100."

You can't honestly believe that John "McCain-Feingold" would have been any more than a slightly marginal improvement over Obama.

McCain's "substance" is about as present as a fart in the wind... whereas Obama's is a noxious load in a diaper.

    Some trade-off.
  • Lyn, Why do you hate blacks?
I am white, libertarian, and I hate everything Obama stands for, but that link is racist hate propaganda.
  • Why?
I cant believe people are still giving him high rating's. Look people he has not done one thing right. he has helped pass a monster of spending bill, bowed down to our enemies and has alienated our allies. Also our economy is still in shambles. Can anyone tell me one thing he has done right?
  • Cycle and Hammer times
I'm just waiting for the stars on the flag to be replaced with the Cycle and Hammer... No way 50% of the voters in this country believe Marxism is the way to go, then again what I'm hearing on the news networks, I guess I can... I wish the Republicans will gain more of a vocal backbone... For that matter even the Libertarian Party, where have they been lately?
  • easy way to read
I've figured out the easy way to read these replies is to start with the author and ignore everything from copyleft and tristan. Also, if you see them quoted in a reply you can ignore that one too (like this one). It makes it a lot easier it wade through the tripe to get to some intelligent comments.
  • 100 days
my family have 100 bad days
  • 100 days?
Has it ONLY been 100 days?God, I wasn't this tired of a politician this fast since the moron Jimmy Carter screwed the country up.
  • Crazy
You people are all crazy. You sit here and assume that the United States is in so much trouble now that we are doomed to fail and we should all be planning our way out. Well you sound A LOT like the liberals who spoke during the Bush years. Grow up already, be better than that and quit your whining already.
    So pathetic.....
  • @those labeling Tristan et al trolls
Why are they trolls? They're just stating facts, albeit with occasionally random capitalization and misspellings.

Tax rates for Reagan, Clinton, and Bush 2 are factual data that are simple to look up and compare.

GDP skyrocketed throughout the Great Depression until 1937, when spending cuts coincided with a temporary recession that ended once the spending was reinstated. This is also fact, that's simple to look up.

That we have tortured and abused prisoners under Bush is also fact; the number of casualties in the wars is also fact.

Do you disagree with the facts or with the conclusions?

If you disagree with the facts, there's nothing to discuss, because it's impossible to talk issues unless both sides live in reality.
  • re: Chris and revisionist history
Chris, you mean the Axis Powers already knew we were coming to finish what our brave Brit Brothers and Sisters were stuck with after the rest of Europe bailed on them? Those two wars?
  • Jonestown calling...
Yeah, Jim Jones had adoring throngs chanting his name. Then one really bad batch of Koolaid and well...
  • Ivan
Ivan, well put... you have got it. I study and study and study all sorts of websites for financials. And I think you are absolutely 100% correct. I have big connections of all angles and it matches my Special intell. I have copied your second big note and forwarded it to my political book club. And my attorney friend loved. Good job, too bad you were not president... it would be better than the one we have right now!!!
  • Approval Ratings
Hmmm.. I watched the tv news - first time in a month - they gave approval ratings for Democrats & Republicans... but what about Libertarians and Independents? Hmmmm... I wonder. Libertarians want to tear him up. No president has helped this country in many years.. so you know our approval rating for Obama would be like 4%. It is kind of funny.. they forgot about us. Knowing it would look like that. Republicans are little bit more easy-going with ethics and the constitution, than Libertarians. So they gobble it up when they think it is 39%. HA!
  • russia
I thought they, more or less, broke themselves on their Afghanistan war. I realize we supplied the Afgans with stinger sta missiles and small arms, but I dont think we can credit ourselves for that one.
  • Do not rely on one source
    Read
  • Joey Williams is right!
So basically the only accomplishment BO has made is winning a popularity contest. Understandibly so... he is a great speaker and wonderful salesman to the media... But to all of you who think having a president who is popular is an accomplishment, just remember - Hitler was respected by many (he also had superior public speaking skills). Unfortunately, if the more of people knew how to be conservative instead of purchasing a bunch of bull we can't afford, we wouldn't be in such a deep hole.

Joey - I'll be joining you the Convoy out of here. Its such a shame that so many unwilling to see this wonderful nation is being destroyed.
  • Do not rely on one source
Did the last guy actually cite wikipedia? I'm astounded by the banality. And, just to help balance here a little bit. Where was all this concern over big government when the Patriot Act was enacted? Or No Child Left Behind? Or ignoring a country we're at war with for legitimate reasons to invade another because, "the man tried to kill my father". Try reading a more diverse selection. Not all viewpoints are great, don't get me wrong. But, the only way to learn is to do something difficult and try to understand the other side. I just think it's demonstrative of the intellectual bankruptcy of radicals that the same people that were fearmongering are selling the same wears and people are still buying it.
  • Obama must go!
Comparing Obama to the late, great W, during GWB's final 100 days, my 401K went down 29.3%. In Obama's first 100 days, my 401K has increased 6.3%. This is unacceptable and we should all send dollar bills to our congressmen as a symbol of our outrage!
  • Conservative Tears
Keep crying your conservative tears for us people. They taste good. They nourish us.
  • To: Joyce
Well, for once I agree with you completely, Joyce. That's exactly the approach to take.

You can't fight terrorism with conventional military. You need intelligence-gathering, investigation, and similar techniques to track them down and root them out.

The brute-force option simply won't work. You're absolutely correct.
  • what a scam
This is no president..! he is however another welfare bum..and why for a moment do these sheeple believe he is going to bring about anything to their benefit..health care what a joke he already has his own guaranteed for life why would he care weither you have any or not.a job..ha why would he care if you have one or not he clearly doesnt work so why should you.?money in youre bank account..haa.. why would he care about you having any if he wants it. all he has to do is send over his thugs from the irs to help themselves to whatever you have..and the 16th ammendment says thats fine and dandy for him to do so..all of our rights and freedoms only apply so long as its to their benefit..welcome to the new ..U.S.S.R. United states of socialist republicrats..God Help us All..assuming it is still legal to pray in my own home.?
  • Tristan and anyone else
All I can say is thank God for GW Bush. OOOPS I said God. I don't even go to church but I sincerely mean it. I don't agree with a lot of the things that he did while in office but he was a man with convictions and loved this country. I feel no shame in saying President Bush. I can not say that now about this new president. This is the first time in my life I have felt this way.
  • minor point on Afghanistan
Now tell me if these folks at InfoPlease are off base but found this:

    http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/history/A0802662.html

Seems the Taliban didn't come about till after the Afghan/Russian war.

Copy, the Taliban are nearing Islamabad, which is on the OTHER side of Pakistan, near the India border. They are, after all, a nomadic people.

My main point is we are not going to get to our enemies by force in this part of the world. We should pull out all ground forces and rely on intelligence, infiltrate, find them, then call in a tactical strike!!! Over and out.
  • Obama's First 100 Days
Obama is a disgrace. His term can't end soon enough. He's humiliated this great country at home and abroad. He has handicapped people's minds. Obama is the pusher for the Democratic welfare junkies. Obama = disgrace. Lyn martinlutherkingslegacy.com
  • Saved Europe?
Which two times did the USA save Europe? In both world wars we got to Europe after the winner had been decided.
  • Ivan..
...Bro, I think my pucker factor went up a smidge. Sure glad I'm going cash!

There is so much that we don't know and the Left thinks it knows, we are in very sad shape.

Lawd hepp me, hepp me pleaz!!!
  • Ben Dover
It is hard to say exactly how it will play out "exactly" next week, but I can say for certain that the stress tests will be so bad that the only logical conclusion would be a run on the banks. But hey...hard to say how the public will react. You have to remember that the majority of the country KNEW that the stimulus/tarp was a HORRIBLE idea, but we literally just sat back and let it happen. I dunno man maybe we deserve this. I mean how could we possibly let Bush do this to us and then just take quadruple doses of it from Obama. It makes no sense. I wish someone would just snap me out of this nightmare. It is truly like the twilight zone. I have never truly been scared like this. I think I know why the CFO from Freddie Mac killed himself. The **** is about to hit the fan and I mean it...for the first time in my life I mean it.

  • Re: By John Galt To those trolls, guys, cut it out. The Left doesn't need any help to look stupid.
    That's for Dam sure!!

Oh no!!! I criticized the Statists, now they will be EVEN more empowered /sarc
  • Ivan
Yeah, the wheels are about to fall off.

So what you're saying is I need to get financed for that new truck THIS week?
  • Tristan
Or if Ivan is correct just wait until next week.
  • Tristan
I sure hope you're looking in the mirror when you use the word ignorant.

Just put your head back in the sand and put your blinders back on. In 4 or 5 years you will see the folly of your ignorant bliss.
  • Tristan:
"The Right in this country was taking us in the direction of Theocratic Fascism"

Statements like that is why nobody will take you seriously. Except, perhaps, people who spell as well as you do.
  • Tristan
Your statements are completely unfounded. Can we see some source on your blatant Obamunistic statements? FDR did nothing to help the depression, except let Japan attack Pearl harbor so he could justify entering a war that would bring out this recession. By the way, you heard it here first. Obama will spend the next three years setting up a major war scenario quietly. If he is a failure towards the end of his term, he will put us in a major war to boost the economy. And then give his Marxist policies credit for the improvement.
  • Ivans comments
He's got a very strong case here, folks. I know it's coming, have known for awhile. Just didn't know when or how.....until now. I was guessing by end of this year. Now, when it does hit the fan, the libs will be truly happy.
    Thanks for the info Ivan
  • Conspiracy Theory
I have a theory about Copyleft, Tristan and Hugo's Ghost. I don't believe they're socialists at all. They are conservative plants posting here, attempting to make the Left look mal-informed and cult-like in devotion to Leftist dogma.

  • What are you babbling about?
You keep saying, "Obama wants to do this, and wants to do that, and wants to destroy all we stand for!" However, you fail to point to any actions that support that. You talk in board terms with no supporting details. To use the lingo of the kids, "[citation needed]"
  • shock and Awe
It's amazing how ignorant a lot of you folks seem to be.

Barack a socialist? Really? By what measure? His taxes aren't much higher then Clinton, and still lower then Reagan, No real issue there.

$250,000 increase? not a huge deal ether. Keep in mind, the way the system works that the increase doesn't effect the tax rate on your first 250k, just on the amount OVER 250k. Tax rate is still lower then it has been in the past. Truman's rate, for example, was like 95%.

No folks, FDR's spending didn't prolong the depression, his attempts to balance the budget to appease 'conservatives' did. Look up the Recession of 1937, it was cause by FDR cutting down on spending. His actions were working fine prior to that, and when he resumed spending, they continued to improve.

Yes, the US did some bad things under Bush. Kidnapping, widespread, systomatic torture and prisoner abuse, and killing some 60,000 people in an unnecessary war, insulting and driving wedges between allies, and making all sorts of new enemies. LEts not forget that 3,000 american civilians died under Bush's watch, and no one in his administration was punished for that failure.

The Right in this country was taking us in the direction of Theocratic Fascism, Iron rule by religious extremists and ultra-nationalists. You can see that in their actions, then lust for war, their disregard for human and civil rights, and their love of forcing religious doctrine upon this nations citizens. Its a good thing that Obama and other Americans are doing to undue this legacy of tyranny and restore America back onto the correct path.
  • Tea-bag DR.

    You were saying?

Now, if you want to argue that we need to focus operations on the Afghan-Pakistan BORDER, where most of the Al Qaeda activity is reported to be concentrated lately, then fine. But the claim that our enemies aren't in Afghanistan is, quite simply, wrong.
  • @ Copyleft

Let me get this straight. If he is popular with most of the people, all is somehow well?

I certainly you do not have the ability to reproduce or have a driver's license.
  • Damifino
LOL, ok you get one, that was a large part also. But do you think we can get our enemies out of those mountains? IF they are there which I still doubt. Serious question, not a dig. Would like to hear opinions from military folks on this board.
  • To Ben Dover and JoeShmoe
I happen to work in the banking/finance industry. I was unfortunate enough to be working for one of the banks that already got shut down by the FDIC. I had many discussions with some of the officers from the FDIC and they told me that over a 1000 banks will close in 2009. I fully understand how to interpret the balance sheets of banks covered by the FDIC and even as of Sept 08 the banks were already practically insolvent. The bank stress tests will be officially out on May 4th. Those stress tests are being HEAVILY appealed because they expose to the public just how bad the outlook is for these banks. It will be announced soon after the stress test comes out that 2 of the MAJOR banks in this country need immediate emergency funds from the Federal government just to stay open. I know the names of these institutions, but I cannot give them out due to the possibility of a lawsuit. We will be fully aware as of May 4th that 16 of the top 19 banks in this country are basically insolvent. Further than that if any 2 of the top 19 banks fail the FDIC will not have the funds to cover those deposits. The FDIC requested an additional 500 billion dollars roughly a month ago because they already knew what was about to happen. This brings the FDIC’s deposit insurance coverage to about 530-540 billion. Once that money runs out people that have accounts at other institutions will lose every dime of their money unless the Fed prints new money to cover that debt. What is insane is that we haven’t even seen the complete collapse of the commercial market yet. We are seeing a glimpse of it though with the bankruptcy of Chrysler and eventually GM. This is just the beginning. The question is what will the Federal government do once everyone is out in the streets protesting and wanting answers. It will be violent. How could they blame us? They literally are going to take every red cent from us. Everything we worked so hard for.
  • FDR destroyed production, and Obama will do the same
Want to read a good book? Try "FDR's Folly" http://www.amazon.com/FDRs-Folly-Roosevelt-Prolonged-Depression/dp/140005477X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241018320&sr=8-1

Shows how FDR kept instituting anything people suggested, and how they kept destroying production, which prolong a recession and turned it into a depression. And we celebrate Obama doing the same?
  • to;joyceand copy left
Joyce, the terrain did not defeat the russians,WE did it by giving our support to the taliban at that time and supplying them with stingers to deal with soviet airpower. The soviets left because of our superior weapons put in taliban hands. There was no way a taliban horse calvery was going to defeat russia, without our help.and copy, as far as N.Korea's concerned, the UN is responsable for that mess since the 1950s and have solved nothing. and yes we should always pick and choose our battles with how easy or hard in mind(its called a cost/risk factor and to fight without considering it is insane) I personally believe its time to rearm Japan with whatever they need, including nukes, and possibly giving S. Korea means to protect itself also. BY THE WAY keep repeating the"Iraq was not involved" mantra ,eventually it will be taken as fact, thats been the way almost every leftest cause has been promoted. Just keep repeating it till eventually the facts are forgotten and only the lies remain.Keep it up I know most people are stupid enough to buy it.Hell most who supported Obama still believe Tina Fey IS the gov.of Alaska.
  • "And, hey! He hasn't started a bungled and unnecessary war on an unrelated country that did nothing to us! So for that alone, he's already miles ahead of Bush."

Oh good. Then there ARE times when it is necessary to go to war. I was worried, because many liberals seemed to disagree that war was EVER any good.

What should we do regarding nations that, according to intelligence, are developing weapons? We need to wait until they actually drop a nuke on one of our cities? Or should we act on intelligence that is recognized by the international community? And should we give the country over a year to hide/relocate things to another country?

QUESTION: Am I talking about Iraq and the intelligence Clinton+world had, or am I talking about North Korea and the current situation? HINT: It might be both!
  • Ivan
Scary dude. Glad we doubled our garden this year.

oh and yes guys I noticed I spelled recession wrong oops
  • FDR
Every news outlet likes to point to FDR and his sweeping Socialist programs used to boost the economy. What history books fail to emphasize to students and what the media fails to mention is that his policies were not working. He was on his way out of office until he found a big ass war to fight. Then when the nation had to produce, the economy rallied. Behind war, not Social Security.
  • In honor of his first 100 days...
Let us give thanks and praise to Barry, the Christ, who lives and reigns in the kingdom of the Federal Government, one community organizer forever and ever. Let us celebrate he who hath resisted the temptation of free enterprise and smaller government over these 100 days and hath provided for the people tax refunds, delinquent mortgages, and electric bills!

But please, more is needed for the miracles at work! Please give what alms you can, Copyleft is holding the collection plate.

BTW the housing market has fared very well WITH gov't interference, hasn't it?
  • Copy you missed the rest
Copy: "So yes, Afghanistan is a better "choice." We're going after ACTUAL enemies there, who ACTUALLY attacked us. That matters a lot more than the terrain!"
    -------------------------------
Did you miss where I said our enemies are not there? It is a wasted effort. But you'll not admit that anymore than admit that turning America socialist is a bad idea.

Brother239, his numbers are slipping. Especially among those likely to vote.

Chainsaw, sorry, tried to ignore the little troll but he keeps spewing garbage that cannot be allowed to go unchallenged.

I think everyone tried to give Obama a chance at the beginning. I withheld my concern to see what he would do.

Unfortunately, he chose to ignore the experts that said the rececession would be easing up toward the end of this year. He chose to go the route of FDR who would have sunk this nation if it hadn't been for the war that pulled us out. Listened to a FDR speech last night, he said "no American should make over $25,000". Those were his words. Yeah $25,000 was a lot back then but that was the upper level. What Obama wants is for no American at the upper level to make over $250,000.

Hillary proclaims herself to be a Modern Progressive modeled after the woman that started Planned Parenthood. The same women who was part of a group of eugenisists (sp). They believed that no poor people and some races should not be allowed to reproduce. There is a picture of this woman with the KKK. And this is the beginnings of the Progressives that many of our government model themselves after.

    We're in trouble.
  • Ivan
and I thought I was pessimistic!

Unfortunately I don't think it's at all far fetched. I think everything you said is not only possible, but most of it is probable. Especially the dollar becoming worthless. There will be another pandemic. It's very possible large numbers of people will stop paying their bills and banks will fail. One thing you left out; when people quit work who will get the groceries to us? Add mass starvation to your list.

Fortunately, I don't see all this happening next week. Much of it by the end of the year? Maybe. Within 5 years? Probably. I'm just waiting on the catalyst. Maybe you're right. I sure hope not!

I'm starting to think the Mayans knew something we don't yet know.
  • 1930's-40's Germany
Here we go again. Boortz, you always said "plan your escape routes", and, now it seems more important than ever. Thank God George W. Bush didn't build the wall along the Mexican and Canadian borders like we wanted him to. Cause sooner or later, Americans will flee this trash pit called "democracy". Ya'll want it - You can have it! Change YOU can believe in! Not me.
  • To: Ivan
I am curious as to what substantiates your predictions. Just asking.
  • Obama in Missouri
Here's a mental picture for all of you guys!!!!!

As Obama's motorcade approaches the auditorium, there's the drunk from 'Blazzing Saddles' on the rooftop.

    Thank you Mel Brooks!
  • I believe
I believe in supporting science in order to find cures to medical illnesses. Which is what Obama did by striking the abortion known as Bush's ban on federal spending for stem cell research.
  • To: Joyce
"Do you really think Afghanistan is any better than Iraq? The terrain alone beat the Russians...."

What an odd statement. Should we pick and choose our battles based on how easy or hard they will be? (After all, we invaded Iraq, which couldn't stand up to us... but we negotiated with North Korea, which had nukes.)

What matters is not ease or difficulty, but the REASON for fighting at all. If you've forgotten, it's to go after bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Iraq was clearly uninvolved with either.

So yes, Afghanistan is a better "choice." We're going after ACTUAL enemies there, who ACTUALLY attacked us. That matters a lot more than the terrain!

I'm with Gov. Perry: secession is the answer. See http://mises.org/story/3427
  • Obama is already a failure...
Forget everything else. If Obama wanted to help this country he would have opposed ALL stimulus/tarp spending. Our economy will collapse this year because of the measures taken by Bush and Obama. What I find so crazy is that normally sane intelligent people are not admitting what is really going on here. Our very sovereignty is at stake here. By this fall our economy will fail and our dollar will literally be worthless. It will be killed off by being replaced with a new international reserve currency used for international trade. Of course right now it seems like they are trying to strengthen the dollar ultimately Obama will give in to the demands of the international community and the IMF. For a learned person to ignore this fact is scary to say the least. May 4th is just around the corner and the news ain't gonna be good. I predict a run on banks next week followed by incredible losses in the stock market. The swine flu will be a full on pandemic and we will have tons of deaths here in the States. People will start keeping their children home and some people will not go to work. Alot of people will stop paying their bills and the banks that were still slightly capable of day to day operation will fail. I suspect by the end of the Summer there will be a voucher program put in place by the federal government so people can obtain the necessities. Think this is far fetched? Just wait til the middle of next week when the FDIC warns that it will not be able to cover everyones deposits.
  • Re: t shirt doctor
Yes, it would be better to have another Washington or Jefferson.
  • OBAMA
We realize you far right zealots will never support President Obama. All I can say is that the overall public opinion of him is good and if you could simply remove your partison blinders perhaps you will see some good as well. I live in Naples and listen to your show but disagree with 99% of what you say. I listen to you to remind myself of why I have the values I have.

    Best regards!!
  • Copyleft is a Statist, don't bother reading it's stupid rantings
As usual the Statist Copyleft is spewing Lies courtesy of the Demoncrats.

After all, they have nothing to advance their agenda except LIES and DISTORTIONS.

But, according to Copyleft (the Statist), criticizing one of their idiotic Statist trolls and revealing the truth about them will cause other to vote for them somehow.....
  • To all Liberals

You believe any man or woman of any race or religion can become the most powerful person in the world? A great first 100 days.

You are appalled that a social worker, who blanks out when his puppet-master has a techno-glitch, can become the most powerful person in the world? A bad first 100 days.

You're excited to have a president who wants America to be popular? A great first 100 days.

You're amazed that this idiot befriends the world's most blatant dictators and apologizes for Americans who are not sorry for their country's actions? A bad first 100 days.

You are happy an American president has finally shoved his fist right up rich, old white guys' arses? A great first 100 days.

You're sickened that this moron spends tax dollars on photo-ops and has absolutely no sense of the value of a dollar? A bad first 100 days.

I give the oxygen thief a D-. The only reason I grade him that high, is because he has kept his word, and is being the Marxist he said he was going to be, all throughout the campaign.
  • chopyleft
do you think mccain cares about freedom any more that obama?

if you do, i have some swampland to sell you
  • Copyleft wrong on all points
Do you really think Afghanistan is any better than Iraq? The terrain alone beat the Russians. The Taliban is nearing Pakistan, you can bet that what remains of Al Qaida is on their tails NOT in Afghanistan so again we are chasing our tails while Pakistan is in danger of having it's nuclear capabilities in the hands of terrorists.

ALL while our southern border is WIDE open.
  • Madison
i think we should go back even further that reagan. how about all the way back to washington? the president, i mean.

of course no one would vote for him anymore, expect the libertarians. and you know how badly they did in the last election.
  • Jimmah
    Madison,

It is really a shame that Jimmah didn't learn how to keep his antisemitic mouth shut and disappear into the sunset.
  • Doesn't make much difference
I can remember 1 thing BO has done right so far and that was turning the Seals loose on the pirates. As far as everything else he's done that I've heard about, he's absolute disaster. The problem that I don't 2010 being a recovery time even if the Reps retake the Congress. The reason being is that there NO difference between the two parties any more and there has been any difference for at least the last 2 decades. At this point the only hope I see for this country is the complete overthrow of our current government and the reestablishment of the government system our founders envisioned. Anything short of that at this point will simply not get the job of controlling the government done in my opinion.
  • Judge him on his promises
How about we judge him on his promises?
    1) Cut spending with a scalpel not a hatchet - FAIL
    2) No bill will pass if it has pork - EPIC FAIL
    3) All bills will be shown to the public for 5 days before they are signed - TOTAL FAIL
    4) Bring back adherence to the constitution - MASSIVE FAIL

you get the point... and that's just off the top of my head
  • almost forgot...
"You're proud of your country? A depressing first 100 days."

What an odd statement. I'm more proud of my country than ever, thanks to this new administration's efforts to improve and restore America.

Seems like the ones who are angry and ashamed of America are over there on the fringe right. Good thing they don't have any influence!
  • If you believe in Statism? A great 100 days
If you believe in Freedom? A horrible first 100 days
  • A solid B-plus
Of course, Neal's starting from three completely wrong assumptions, so it's impossible to use his criteria to evaluate the President.

"Obama wanted to begin a new era of dependence on government."
Nope. He wanted to restore some public accountability and control, which the Bushies spent eight years evading by waving the terrorism flag. He also wanted to fix the broken economy, an inevitable result of having no public oversight or accountability (there's that word again!).

"Obama wanted to go on a world apology tour."
Wrong again. Obama wanted to improve relations with both our allies and our enemies by showing a bit more courtesy and respect, rather than bluster and swagger--the true mark of weakness. Again, that's what America wanted, and it's gone pretty well.

"Obama wanted to denigrate the private sector and present government as the solution to all problems great and small."
Not even close to reality, but then, what can you expect from talk radio? Unregulated and unaccountable corporations produced the same results they always do: nothing "trickles down" except disaster. The market works best WITH, not without, government intervention.

Now, Obama has made some missteps here and there. He tried to exempt Bush officials from prosecution for lawbreaking; he (or his staff) missed some screening opportunities in his nominations; and he, sadly, has preserved some of the ultra-secrecy policies of his predecessor, invoking the "national security" excuse. (Which, by the way, every REAL libertarian was screaming about when Bush did it. How 'bout you folks?)

But overall, he's delivered on what I wanted to see, and is making good progress on a lot more.

And, hey! He hasn't started a bungled and unnecessary war on an unrelated country that did nothing to us! So for that alone, he's already miles ahead of Bush.
  • To Madison
Obama will make Carter look like Regan.
  • He gets a D
and the people that still think he's great get a D also. D for Denial.

    Recovery begins 2010.
  • Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama
The media discovered and promoted Carter, as Lawrence Shoup noted in his 1980 book The Carter Presidency and Beyond:

"What Carter had that his opponents did not was the acceptance and support of elite sectors of the mass communications media. It was their favorable coverage of Carter and his campaign that gave him an edge, propelling him rocket-like to the top of the opinion polls. This helped Carter win key primary election victories, enabling him to rise from an obscure public figure to President-elect in the short space of 9 months."

This comes from the Wikipedia article on Jimmy Carter. It's quite amazing the similarities between the two. If Barack doesn't change for the better, he will be remembered as the second Jimmy Carter.

Makes me hope there will be a second Regan.
