HERE'S ANOTHER IDEA: CLOSE THE BORDER ...

.... and keep it closed. The idea of closing the Mexican border has been brought up. New York Democrat Rep. Eric Massa is one of those people who suggested that the border should be closed until the threat is resolved.

Great idea. Why haven't we thought of that sooner? Why did it take a flu pandemic for this to seem like a logical idea? If we can get our butts in gear to close the border to protect ourselves from a flu infection, why can't we use half of that urgency to seriously arm and protect our borders from illegal aliens?

In that case, I don't think you typed what you think you did cause it still don't make sense. And yay I do care about facts so kiss my tookus jerk. Too bad I didn't catch this earlier, I'm not here to be your entertainment.
  • joy/schmoe
Joyce -- you said exasctly what I said but made it sound like you were disputing me. If you cannot comprehend what it is written, just stay on the sidelines and watch, honey. making yourself look dumb isn't entertaining. And it isn't just the libs but I know you don't much care about facts.

JoeShmoe -- Time for you to step back to the sidelines yourself. Name calling doesn't suffice as a rebuttal. Make a statement and call me names, sure, moron, go for it. See the difference, dummy?

I think you idiots saw my name decided, well I can't agree with that even if I am too stupid to comprehend it.....
  • Why now to close the border?
Obviously, you can't butter up the flu virus, grant it amnesty and than expect it to vote Democrat. Yet.
  • Wasn't Carter
    It was Ford.
  • Rob is dead on
    @Clueless Gavin

    Rob is dead on.

    Here's where you really shine:

“If we could use this outbreak of swine flu to demonstrate how easily we could close our borders, I'm all for it. Too bad for Republicans that it took a Democrat to come up with this idea.”

    Ludicrous

Really shows how idiotic libtards are.

Additionally, I believe there was a swine flu outbreak during the Carter years. What a coincidence.
  • Taking jobs isn't the only thing
I agree with "why did it take a pandemic to suggest this?" It's been floated around for a long time by people that are often-times labeled 'racist' and such.

But what many are finally understanding, and it isn't rocket science is that illegals coming into our country are not just taking away jobs and sucking up resources, but they also bring diseases, bring additional crime (those running from the law in Central America and are escaping to the U.S. where they start over), add more cars on the road and contribute more traffic accidents, etc.
  • Fear.
Yeah I know about 9/11. It was the day America gave up its beliefs in the name of fear. It was the day our rights were stripped from us in order to make us safe.

Are we any more safe? NO.
Are we any less free? YES!

    http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/FASTATS/deaths.htm

I don't see death by terrorists anywhere on the list...

The answer isn't closing the border. The answer is two fold.
Step 1: Enact the fair tax, thereby taxing all the illegals without giving them a rebate check.
Step 2: Remove all handouts to illegals. Health care might be tricky. You have to register to go to school and to receive food stamps, removing those to items from illegals would save the country millions.
  • Rob
Your right immigrants did build this country. Not illeagal ones though. duh!
Are you really OK with letting more of them in that could be infected for the "good of the nation".
This swine flu could be a solution in disguise. What better reason to shut down the borders than letting in a potential viral epidemic?? Terrorism does'nt seem to be a good enough reason too......
  • Stan and Gavin
Stan, Cancun and Cozumel are tourist traps, not hardly indicative of real Mexico. You could move them to about anywhere and not tell the difference. Hmm maybe we should annex them and let Mexico keep the rest.

Gavin - "sailed here and remained"? No, he's talking about the ones to meant to come here and leave but found out the libs would provide for them and fight for voting rights for them so they decided to stay! They gotta go!
  • Mexican Swine Flu
Close the borders! Stop travel. This could be Obama's Katrina.
  • Janet "nitwit" Napolitani will never close the borders
even if it means the deaths of millions of Americans. She's as hard core a liberal idiot as they come.

We just have to resign ourselves that liberals are bent on the destruction of this nation.
  • What about the criminals?
    Ok,

So closing the borders is OK when a few people in this country have gotten sick but, when the illegals rape, murder and kill in DUI accidents that is OK? I assure you that more die from the latter cause than this flu.

    Gotta' love liberal illogic!!
  • Clueless Rob....
Your imagination aside, immigrants are not the problem. Illegal immigrants who come and go as they please are the problem. Too many people come here who have no intention of building our nation -- they want to make some cash and go back to their families -- then return and do it all over -- the immigrants you foolishly compare them to sailed here and remained -- they didn't travel back and forth. Post 911, we cannot allow people to come and go unannounced. You did hear about 911?

If we could use this outbreak of swine flu to demonstrate how easily we could close our borders, I'm all for it. Too bad for Republicans that it took a Democrat to come up with this idea.
  • Closing borders would backfire
Gee....if our borders were closed to help stop the spread of this virus, that means the borders actually COULD be controlled. Ya think the powers that be want that bit of info. to get around??
  • Clueless...
    How would that help?

The 8 cases in New York where from US citizens who were on a field trip. I would imagine that they were on a youth missions trip.

I imagine the other cases are similar. Closing the border would do nothing.

What happened to the great melting pot America? When did we become xenophobes?

Stop the handouts and the free lunch, the issue is entitlements, not immigrants. Immigrants built this nation, entitlements destroyed it.
  • DON'T WASTE A CRISES!!!
Rebublicans should take a lesson from democrats and not waste this "crises".Us it to force the issue and close up the southern border. We can't close it completely of course but what better excuse to raise the level of control to at least those limiting admission to an amusement park rollercoaster. Such as the ability to pay admission, be of good health and be at least this tall. Seriously this crisis should be exploited to control our borders not close them. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD ONLY DO WHAT THE PRIVATE SECTOR CAN NOT, WILL NOT OR SHOULD NOT DO.
  • Until the threat is resolved?
How about just doing the first part ... CLOSE THE BORDERS!
  • Control
May not keep them off the airplanes, but sure will help screen them before they enter the country. Yes, control the border. There has been a growing number of TB case in Gwinnett Co., GA within the “undocumented” Latino community.
  • sadly we won't close the border
George Bush didn't want to close our borders after 911, why would we expect government to close it now -- even temporarily -- over this outbreak of swine flu?
  • Re: NOOOOOOOO
Stan, aren't you scared of getting rolled in Tijuana?

I wonder if the Mexican authorities waited until the end of spring break season to release the news of the epidemic...
  • NOOOOOOOO
I have been to 2 bachelor parties in Mexico. Dont close the borders. If most the people that leave comments here would actually venture out of Gwinnett County then they would know how awesome Cancun and Cozumel are.
  • really?
Every time I hear an estimate for the number of illegals in country I feel like I've been robbed. I mean really. The more pessimistic esitmations are around 25 million, while some of the older more optimistic versions say 7 million. Any way you slice that it's a ripoff. Every time I hear about one receiving government benifits I feel like I've been mugged and beaten. We should control the border more effectively. If we can pull that off, then we can worry about the ones that are trapped inside.

Of course, I wouldn't get that sick feeling if we had the FairTax. All of a sudden millions of illegals would be paying their fair share of taxes.
  • Maybe the Demonrats should consider erecting a “Smart Fence”
It will selectively screen out unwanted illegals, as in those that may vote Republican.

But selectively let in Illegals that will vote Demoncrat if sufficiently Bribed, and let So-called Assault weapons through so the Statist Demoncrats can 'USE' that crisis for more restrictive laws to disarm the law-abiding.

Oh and selectively screen out Illegals that might be diseased.
  • Border
Closing the border ain't gonna keep them off airplanes unfortunately...
