You may remember that Barack Obama met with bank CEOs before heading to Europe. And more details are emerging from what exactly was said in the meeting. But according to two sources cited on Politico, here is a direct quote from the president:

"My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks."

Well ... let's see. The Obama administration and the Democrat Party demonizes the private financial sector in this country, and then Obama claims to be their ultimate protector. What a guy!

    And you are right as evidenced when Copy was presented with Constitutional evidence. He even denies Obama has fired anyone. In his delusional world he has won some sort of contest, guess it truly is best to ignore him.

    Thank you for conceding that the Constitution makes NO reference to corporations or a free market in any way.

    Now, as to Article I, Section 8: Yes, this clearly gives government the power to regulate interstate commerce (which, thanks to globalization, is pretty much EVERY type of commerce). So there we have the established power.

    Finally: The President has no power to fire anyone, and of course he hasn't done any such thing. We DO, however, have the right to set conditions on the public bailout money we spread around... and if GM doesn't like the terms they're offered, they're perfectly free to do without their handouts.

    Game, set, match. Thanks for playing! (Sorry if I come across as arrogant, but it's just soooo easy with ignorant talk-radio drones.)

    First disadvantage the banks with the CRA. Then, when some banks fail, force all banks to accept money. Upon accepting the money, all banks lose self determination. Just try to get a loan in 5 years if you're not a Nazi...er ah, I mean Democrat.

  • Constitution is pointed at the government, not us
    "...To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes..."

    So, if a corporation doesn't deal beyond the state lines, then the federal government would appear to have no jurisdiction over its business practices. Isn't this the same thing being tested with "Made in Montana" firearms?

    The Constitution defines what the government can and cannot do, NOT what you and I can/cannot do. Throw in the 10th amendment, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.", and I think you have nice cogent definition of the free market!

    The feds can't regulate EVERYTHING! Just business between the states and the Native American tribes. Of course, Copyleft will argue that cross a state line, and the POTUS can fire you! Yeah, that is what our forefathers fought against the King of England for.

    Not only that, but tens of billions of the 'stimulus' is going to support those who generate this outrage on demand.

    Copy, though it's up to you to show where the US Constitution authorizes the power the federal government is excercising, it has to come from somewhere. The 10th Ammendment was the main barrier to the dp's stupidity until FDR's second term when he enlarged and stacked the US Supreme court.

    We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    Note the Posterity part? Wouldn't that also include commerce, free market, etc.?

    Now Copy, YOU go find where the Constitution gives Obama the right to fire ANYONE!!! And quite being so arrogant, we might confuse you with O

    Did you see the last episode of "Life on Mars"? At the end they jumped to the year 2035 and were told "President Obama wished he could be there to congratulate them"...

    President Obama in 2035? On network TV? Maybe we aren't the only ones to see this coming...

    It's simple, these business' should not have accepted this money and if they were forced to accept it then they should be screaming from the mountain tops exactly that. In all these idiotic congressional hearings we haven't had one CEO stand up and call any of them out on being hypacritical or say that they wanted their company back and we're returning the money.

    It is amazing when a statement from the President of the United States sounds like it came straight from the Godfather. The mafia used these lines before. They were the cause of harm and the protections for the businesses. The legal term for this is extortion, only when the government does this they call it good politics. Perhaps we should indict the demcrats and Mr. Obama for racketeering.

    Copyleft, today's reality is not always tomorrow's. Times change, and I am afraid with all these rapid changes that are taking place in Washington DC, that there will be a backlash against the Democratic Party in 2010.

    Americans have traditionally voted either center left or center right and with Obama not being on the ballot, there won't be as many new Democratic “Obama” voters that will turn out for this election. We saw how important riding Obama’s "coattails" was in Georgia when the general election for senator went into a runoff and then the Republican won hands down in the runoff because the Democratic “Obama” voters did not turn out.

    Anyone else that would create a hostile environment and then demand payment for protection from that threat would be indicted for extortion. It's absolutely sickening that these kinds of criminal tactics are considered acceptable to the Democrats simply because they want to like Obama. Anyone condoning this kind of thing is disgusting.
    And spare me the wails declaring the Bush 'crimes'. Whether Bush was guilty of anything or not is irrelevant. Is your position that because Bush did something bad that your guy is now entitled to because it's your turn? Obama is turning into the biggest confidence man (Con-Man for the government educated) in history.

    The outrage is not against the banks you moron, it's against Congress and Obama. Regulation is one thing, this is WAY beyond any powers granted in the constitution.

    Because what Obama said is true. He's trying to preserve some structures of the market, before the populist outrage completely overwhelms it and destroys capitalism entirely.

    The free-market purists may not like having to bend in order to survive, but that's the reality today. Unregulated capitalism is DEAD, and whining about it won't change things. You can either go forward with regulations and oversight, or give up on capitalism entirely. Which will it be?

    Hmmm..this practice sounds a little like mafia tactics. I know, I know, the mafia doesn't exist. But in all those pretend stories, the pork store owner is always paying the mafia boss for protection. From the mafia thugs.
    (For those of you who need to relate to it on a more childlike level, there is a parallel in the children's movie An American Tale. Warren T. Rat (who all the mice are paying for protection from the C-A-T-S so they don't get eaten) is really just a cat in disguise. It sounds like in this case Big O is taking the place of Warren T.

  • Good Fried Chicken is a gift from God
    I love good fried chicken. There's a lot of bad fried chiken out there. Some is greasy or overcooked or undercooked or underseasoned, or the breading is lousy, etc., etc.. I can see a joint that serves bad fried chicken changing its name to include Obama's name. The best chicken I ever had was in a little soul food joint in Chattanooga. I'd crawl on my hands and knees over broken glass to get in that place. Blacks make the best fried chicken. My admiration knows no bounds.
