DID YOU WATCH OBAMA'S TOWN HALL MEETING?

Let's face it .. the guy just can't talk without a teleprompter. Every third word is "ahhhh." Now I know that I insert a few "ahhhs" and "uhmmmm" when I'm doing the show .. but this guy makes me look like Paul Harvey. At one point during his town hall meeting with Turkish students he actually said: "As I've said before ... ahhhhhh ..." Well, he had that one right. I also liked the line about "We have the responsibility to do things in a responsible fashion." Now that was a real gem. It's just tough to use a teleprompter at a town hall meeting. I hate that for him.

What others are saying

  • The Teleprompter
Bush had better grades than Obama in college, I dare anyone to prove me wrong!!! Without a TelePromTer, Obama is a babbling idiot like Pelosi (her classic line during this CIA lied to me thingy) I'll tell you what I remember, wait a second there here in my speech somewhere! Even Joe Biden made fun of Obama's TelePromTer over use!!!
  • point to Alabamastan
I'll give you the point on Bush's sycophantic behavior - doesn't make it right though. Where's that change we can believe in - and by that I mean asserting USA superiority in all things - because we Americans are just that - better than anyone else in the world. Ronnie didn't pull that crap.
  • anonamous
people should say whom they are and be true to what they are.To be an annomious figure depicts ones integrity, once when organizing a union i was asked to whom will they respect one whom they can relate to.. or one whom just portrays what they wish to be..
  • Alabamastan
"And it finally occurred to me: this is strategy number one out of Carl Rove's playbook. Attack your opponent's greatest strength until enough people believe the big lie about it, thereby taking it away from your opponent."

Gee, I think I read that same thing, only talking about the approach liberals take..... are we both using the same tactics??? Probably.
  • Shuttin' Down.
What I hear that you apparently refuse to is a man who can present the hell out of a prepared speech (that would be the ones with the TelePrompTer), which he has a great deal to do with the authorship, and someone who chooses his words very carefully and THINKS while he speaks extemporaneously. And he HAS to choose his words carefully because if he doesn't, he's pounced on by the likes of you who wait for the least misstep.

And speaking of fellating Middle Eastern potentates, I seem to remember Bush literally kissing the Saudi Prince, and that was in public. I shudder to think what went on once the doors closed.
  • I thought the President was highly educated
I did not have the "privilege" of attending an Ivy League Law School. I graduated from a smaller private, Midwestern Law School. Listening to President Obama speak without a teleprompter is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard! Speeches of the quality he's capable of without the teleprompter would not have been tolerated where I went to school (and certainly not from the Law Review Editor). Has anybody checked his transcripts?
  • Obama's speaking
FWIW....if BO were to enter a Toastmaster's speaking contest, he'd lose from the uhhh's and ahhh's even if his content was good. Be that as it may....

My issue is that everytime he talks it's as if he's giving a sermon. Added to that is the mental image a friend planted one day when he said, "Ever noticed that when Obama speaks he sounds like the WWE wrestler The Rock?" LOL....I keep waiting now for the day when he says, "Can ya sa, sa, sa, smell what the Barack's got cookin'" Anyhow....

My wife commented (and I think she hit the nail on the head) that every time BO speaks, it sounds like he's still campaigning or trying to convince folks to like him.

Personally - the uhhhh's doesn't really bother me TOO much as I am exposed to it day-in & day-out at meetings and such. So I tend to filter that out and look for content. And that's what concerns me most. Because when you actually LISTEN to what he's saying, it's a very disturbing message that I truly believe is not what this country is all about. For what our country is all about is what we see here - people with differing views being allowed to express those yet still getting along. This current administration is NOT about that. Sadly, the bulk of BO supporters don't really understand that. And it will be them that will be disappointed the most. Disappointed that he didn't deliver and disappointed in themselves that they could so easily fall for such a facade of a leader.
  • bambi's ahhhs
this is sad that a person that is suppose to be our PRESIDENT and represent a cultured nation can not speak i hear too many young people that are educated using "like" with every other word in a sentence what is it you say repeatedly "gov't schools" i went to public schools but guess when? 1948-1960 we did not have 3 months of black history
  • what the hell am I missing
Alabamastan? What brilliance do your ears pick up on that cause you to swoon at every scripted word. No really - I need to know, when I listen to the guy, and cringe at every uhh, ahh, and pregnant pause punctuating every third word, as he waits for the words to scroll on the screen - what am I not really hearing? His brilliant statements of the obvious that even a schoolchild can tell me? And am I supposed to smile and beam with pride when he practically fellates King Abdullah - a known slave-holder?; and say "Oh look - he plays so well with others"
Tell me one brilliant thing this man has come with on his own - and maybe just maybe I'll go fellate King Abdullah myself.
  • Did I hear that right?
It was 4-something in the morning and I was listening to the umms and ahhs of the Prez's speech. On one of the questions (it was in turkish because Obama had to put on his hearing aid) the translator keep asking Obama "can you hear me know? During his answer, he said and I cannot quote... Like I said, it was 4-something in the morning and I could have sworn that is what I heard. Can someone clear this up for me, I cannot seem to find a transcript of his Q&A portion of the townhall meet and greet. Thanks.
  • I think I've finally figured it out.
Boortz relentlessly brings up this specious criticism about TelePrompTer use, and he's timid compared to Limbaugh. It a drumbeat throughout the conservative talking head population. And it finally occurred to me: this is strategy number one out of Carl Rove's playbook. Attack your opponent's greatest strength until enough people believe the big lie about it, thereby taking it away from your opponent.

All of you hear over and over that Obama's not really a phenomenal orator, he's not really smart, he's not really the intellect that he obviously is. You believe these idiots and not your own eyes and ears. What a bunch of sheep!
  • The dimmest of bulbs.
No wonder the dunce couldn't hack it as a practicing attorney. If you've ever wondered about the politics of Harvard Law Review membership...I think your question has been answered. AA all the way.
  • Attn. blatant hypocrisy:
To the courageous "anonymous" post titled "Blatant Hypocrisy", the difference is that Bush never tried to be someone he is not. He may have made many mistakes, but he never used a teleprompter as a crutch the way the chosen one does. Many people claim that he is such a wonderful orator, but take away the TP and he flubs as much, if not more, than Bush did. He's not special! He's a phony! He's stuck in campaign mode, and every breathing moment is all about himself. That is why it is fair game to criticize him.
  • TOTUS
A lot of you may have already seen this 20 second gaffe by the chosen one, but if not, it's absolutely priceless. Thanks Michelle Malkin. Love that girl! http://michellemalkin.com/2009/04/04/teleprompter-aided-saturday-open-thread/
  • Blatant Hypocrisy
This begs the question, who cares if he can't talk without a teleprompter?

George W. Bush could butcher grammar, string together incoherent sentences, and make up ridiculous words, but for 8 years Neal Boortz never talked about this. For the past 3 months, all we have heard about is how much President Obama cannot function without his teleprompter.

    Why the hypocrisy?
  • I thought
I thought he was the President of the United States. Why is he over there giving stump speeches and "town-halls" anyway?

What is he aiming for...Global President of the Terra Firma? I thought the Secretary of State was supposed to be over there building relations? Oh, I forgot, she is lost in Mexico....Maybe she should ask directions from the nearest illegal immigrant heading this way. Maybe they can ride together?

That's what I get for thinking...
  • Obama the orator
I have always been very suspicious of someone that has to choose EVERY....SINGLE...WORD....SO....CAREFFULLY.

It gives the impression that the person is somehow not trustworthy or does not believe what they are saying. If he is speaking from a core set of values, and he is speaking from the heart, then the words would flow much better.

Yeah, I know there are times where everyone stumbles, but Obama always stumbles and bumbles without the teleprompter.

When someone is saying what they mean and means what they are saying, the need for the verbal crutches vanishes.
  • Obambi the great orator..LOL
"Obama is a mesmerizing speaker and would beat the pants off of almost anybody with a tongue in a debate. "

I wonder about the intelligence of people who think this way...THE GUY IS NOT OVERLY BRIGHT! what passes for intelligence these days is amazing.
As far as debate skills...I want to see him shine against Bill Buckley (RIP) or how bout Christopher Hitchens, just to name 2. I would to pay to see that. O' bambi would be a whimpering mess in about 10 minutes.
  • Thinking of an answer?
You don't have to ahhhh ummmm while thinking. If he's so bright he shouldn't need that long to "consider" his response. It's not like he hasn't been coached for the typical questions.

    2010, just to start
  • Stan Gayble and Mike S.
What planet are you two on?

Mike S says, "God forbid a President should think about his answers rather than automatically fall back on memorized platitudes.".....Are you serious? This man is to platitudes what my wife's PMS is to tampons. He is completely dependent on them. His whole campaign, in fact his whole being, is one giant platitutde after another - "Change", Hope", Yes we can". If you oulawed platitudes and "umms, ahhs", this dolt would be Helen Keller.

Meanwhile, Stan Gayble, you whine that Bush does rehearsed interviews and leaves long pauses, and no one cares. WTF??? You libs bashed day-in day-out for that. Besides, you are missing the point. Bush's claim to fame was never that he was a great speaker. On the other hand, OBozo's rise to fame was due to his so-called oratory skills.

You libs truly have a mental disease or just live in a cocoon.
  • ahhh -mmmm
ahh mmm sounds wicked commonsencicle to me..mmm..ahhh yea yea .. go get em beavis..
  • re:AWK829
You're correct! Obama is a mesmerizing speaker and would beat the pants off of almost anybody with a tongue in a debate. Unfortunately, we don't live in that world. We live in an uncertain and often hostile world of Actions and Deeds. And this man's actions are dangerous for America!
  • Teleprompter
Who cares - talk about irrelevant stuff!
W couldn't even handle an audience WITH a teleprompter for the pre-screened questions and audiences!
  • no shame
This teleprompter thing is PURE GOLD. Too bad SNL is in the tank for Dum Dum, because this would make a GREAT skit.

Does this guy have no shame? Does he not realize this issue exposes him for the ignoramus that he truly is? Why can't he just wing it???

If Jimmy "Turtle-Head" Carter can hang in there for four more years, he'll surely see a day when he's no longer considered the worst president in U.S. history.
  • Turkish Town Hall
Yes, I saw part of the event and learned a few things.
Our president says that not signing on to the Kyoto Protocol was a mistake - don't worry, his peeps are getting ready to remedy that blunder at Copenhagen.
We cannot predict just how disastrous the rising sea levels caused by global warming will be for Istanbul but, inferring from his pronounced arm gestures, it will be bad.
The US has been wrong but he is not like most Americans, learned much from his Muslim father, and will fix us.
Never mind his style/ability or lack thereof; listen to what he says and realize that we are on the verge of losing what was bequeathed to us at great cost by those who went before us.
  • Get's Old
To feed your 'oh my god he is not perfect American Presidential Idol' frenzy, here is a link to a short clip from the French town hall meeting in reference to the teleprompter and losing his place.

  • TOTUS
During his town hall meeting in Strasbourg the other day, there was a moment when the camera shot was just perfect, and his entire head was framed by the outline of the teleprompter. I wish I had a still shot of it.
  • Whats the standard?
So Bush does no interviews except for rehearsed ones for 8 years, and leaves 10 second long pauses throughout. But there is no problem with that. Obama makes a noise when he is thinking of an answer and he gets criticized. Come on Neal, I know you have a life. You dont need to complain about this. This is what tedious babies that do nothing but watch Fox News and be mad all day complain about.
  • Affirmative action?
Steve, there's no need to bring race into this. Stand or fall on his own, Obama was elected because a slim majority of people of all colors voted for him. Saying "affirmative action" in one line and "sub prime" in the next equates his color with failure to achieve a job not on his own merit, but by virtue of his race and that all the sub-prime loan recepients were of color. When I see Pres. Obama I don't see his color, I see a failed political ideology brought to life and trying to destroy my country. God help us all.
  • Yes
God forbid a President should think about his answers rather than automatically fall back on memorized platitudes.

Obama's full of it a lot of the time but he's still a better speaker impromptu than Bush was with a prepared speech.
  • ahhhhhh
Yet President Bush was deemed an idiot when he said "ahhhhhh"! BHO says it far more if I am not mistaken.
  • Barry on speaking
This man cannot speak extemporaneously! It’s downright painful, he makes W look like Abe Lincoln for God’s sake, pitiful.
  • That's ok
his numbers drop every time he does this as people realize more and more "what the hell were we thinking?".
  • Phony
I can't stomach hearing this guy talk anymore. I don't even have to look at the TV anymore to know whether he is reading a teleprompter, index cards, or lying bare on stage without the props.

When on teleprompter, he has the strong, confident tone, with his head up high, looking down his nose on everyone. Off teleprompter, his head is down, eyes are closed, and it takes him 20 seconds to spit out a few words in between the umms and ahhs.

I call him the Milli Vanilli of Presidents.
  • teleprompter
I think all the "uhhhhhhs" are his "pauses" to wait for the teleprompter to catch up with him.
  • poliferation of nicknames for obama
you got to love the nicknames that are showing up for this guy. you really should assemble a list just for laffs. I really like THE WINDY CITY WINDBAG and AFFIRMATIVE ACTION FIGURE OBAMA.These came from the UK.
  • It's been 2-3 days, time to resurrect the "teleprompter theme" again
Here we go again with the teleprompter issue. Despite the occasional verbalized pauses, I'll pick Obama over "W" (or McCain) in a forensics contest any time.

After all, almost all objective observers and legitimate polls (i.e., not instant polls of self-selected Fox News viewers) awarded victory in all 3 presidential debates to Obama.
  • Obama's town hall meeting
The president, in dissing America, is beginning to sound more and more like his wife did early in the campaign. Probably just another example creeping in of their 20 years under Rev. Wright's influence.
  • What did you expect?!?!?!?!
This American Idol Prez is doing his job Neil, he's looks good and can read a teleprompter like no one else. :)
  • a new term for the current President
I have started calling B.O sub-prime President Obama. It should be apparent to any clear thinking individual by now that his election was little more then an affirmative action appointment--so I thought the use of sub-prime was pertinent. Thanks and keep fighting the good fight .
  • ugh
Why did Obama do all those town hall meetings in Europe, yet refused to do a series of them against John McCain during the campaign??? hmmmmm
  • DID YOU WATCH OBAMA'S TOWN HALL MEETING?.
I saw it this morning (live?) on FNC and I am pretty sure I saw a teleprompter at one point.
