The House has adopted the Looter in Chief's budget. The cost: $3.4 trillion. There is nothing sophisticated about this budget. The only thought process that went into this mess is "what can we spend and who gets to spend it." One rule ... spending must increase the dominance of government in our lives. Hang on, folks. This is just the beginning, based on the expansion of government that will necessarily happen because of the policies included in this budget.

What kind of policies? I'm talking about Obama's agenda to ensure that Americans look to the government for their healthcare needs. Making Americans dependent on the government for their healthcare will be an incredibly expensive task, thanks to the taxpayers. It will not make our healthcare system in this country any more efficient or cost-effective. In truth, it isn't supposed to. The goal here is not cost effectiveness. The goal is to make people dependent on government. The goal is enslavement.

What does this mean for your grandchildren? Well, deficits under Barack Obama, thanks to budgets like this, will rise to as much as $17 trillion by the end of 2014. Read that again, folks. We are talking $17 trillion. Just last year, the Democrats were whining about a $455 billion deficit.

Beyond healthcare, the budget also includes funding for green energy and tax increases for the filthy, evil rich making more than $200,000 a year. There is absolutely nothing to celebrate here. The parasite class may feel good about the government lifting even more responsibility off their shoulders ... but future generations of Americans are going to read about the freedom and opportunity that used to be ... and wonder what went wrong. Truth be told ... Obama, that's what.

    Okay Copyleft....

We get LESS care per person because our population is generally MORE healthy than other countries. Why? Because WE HAVE EXCELLENT HEALTH CARE!!!

Now I suspect what you really mean is that people in countries with socialized medicine visit their doctors more regularly. I'm sure they do. Otherwise healthy people in the U.S. tend to not go to the doctor. Whether that's wise or not, it's certainly not an indication that there's something wrong with our system.

This is WHY a large chunk of our populace isn't covered. It's not because they can't GET or AFFORD coverage. It's because they are young, healthy, and don't see the NEED for it. They'd rather spend the money on freakin' IPhones. The poor HAVE health care already.

If we had FREE bumper-to-bumper car insurance coverage, we'd have that car in the shop every other week. Oil changes, lube jobs, every teeny little scratch and ding fixed. Why not? It wouldn't cost us a cent, right? But it's that same mentality that crushes the socialized medicine programs. THAT'S why it takes 6 months to get in to see a GP -- because the waiting rooms are clogged with people who run to the doctor for a sniffle.

Yes, our system works fine for me. I have health insurance through my employer. Nearly 3 years ago I got cancer. I was out of work awhile for surgery, radiation and chemo. My health insurance coverage gave me short-term disability payments, and paid a HUGE part of the total costs for my treatment. Without it, I would have been financially devastated.

My treatment was FAST and it was EXPERT. I returned to work, and am healthy and cancer-free today, for which I thank God.

If I lived in a country with socialized medicine, I would probably be dead now. Which might make YOU happy, but my family would miss me.
  • Nonsensical Hypocrisy
What you don't mention is that Obama is actually including the cost of fighting Bush's war in his budget, wheras Bush used emergency appropriations to avoid this.

That war, by the way, will end up costing around $2 trillion. The Republicans spend more than 4 times as much on destroying an arbitrary country than the Democrats spend on necessary (though not optimally structured) stimulus, and the Republicans whine. Even when it's the Republicans that caused the problems that necessitated the stimulus.

I just hope the Democrats don't listen. They're the only ones capable of bringing down the debt, as we saw with Bill Clinton (especially compared to the utter lunacy of Reagan and Bush Jr.)
  • Copyleft....
Please forgive my little brother for his rants and ignorance. We tried the best we could be we could never get him off the couch. We truly wanted him to take responsibilty for his own life and not depend on mom and dad. Once they cut him off he turned to uncle Sam to solve all his problems.

    on to Obama...
How can a man stand in front of the nation and deny he has anything to do with the deficit???
  • Neal
I understand what you are saying and like I said I try. And I started out by trying to give Obama a chance to see what he would do. You can show him respect, as you said we have opinions and that is your choice.

He needs to first remember who he works for. ALL of us not just the people that voted for him.
  • The Public Teat
The MBA Master CPA is spot-on correct and there is no freaking way these obligations can be serviced by the current government teat. Meanwhile, the president answers questions about his most enchanted moment. A socialist president who controls the press is in a great position to confiscate property to keep the teat going. Look for the estate tax to be ramped up- and I don't mean a little and I don't mean on the "Ted Turner rich."
  • Cheaper Healthcare
If you and other LIBs took an honest at SOCIALIZED HEALTHCARE instead of listening to Politian, they would see the truth. On the cover SH looks great, its when you turn to page two that run into the problems. Paying for it! When was the last time that a government project cost what you were told? I my self listen to folks in the U.K. that tell me that the system nothing we think it is. Rationing of services. Waiting rooms so full that you get to know people because you are waiting so long. People who die before they can see a specialist. I work with a couple of guys from Canada. They will tell you real quick that we are being lied to.

Why is it that Liberals think that we can take something like this that has failed, is failing and/or trashed economies around the world, bring it here and make it work?

Obama has spent a ton of money and has done nothing. Every time he and congress open their mouths, people lose their jobs. I believe that the biggest problem that we have are people like the liberals you see here. They made a bad choice, and rather then admit it, they will watch every thing go down the tubes and it will be BUSH’s fault. We didn’t like it when Bush did it and here comes Obama, the exact same thing and spending more money doing it. Carter tried the same thing and it didn’t work then and it won’t work now!

This isn’t about doing the right thing, its simply about who is in office, Democrat or Republican. Liberals were all upset when BUSH did TARP. Now that Obama is in office doing the same thing and spending a butt load more the BUSH ever thought about, its ok! You can run your line of BS, but I see you for what you are, hypocrites. He says he is going to tax the evil rich, but he comes into office and starts giving money to who, the very people the he vilified to get elected. I don’t see congress whipping out their check books to pay more. THEY ARE THE EVIL RICH you dumbsh*ts!

    AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • So, you LIKE our current system? LOL!
I never thought I'd find anyone so far gone as to claim our current healthcare system is great! That's just sad.

We spend more per capita than any nation on earth, we get LESS care per person for it, AND a huge chunk of our populace isn't covered/insured at all... and you think THIS is as good as healthcare can get?

Do some reading, folks. You may enjoy being ripped off rather than face the "horrors" of a cheap and effective system, but your numbers are dwindling every day. The rest of us want something that serves America better.

  • The Real Budget
I audit the books of the biggest of all types of business in the Fortune 100. These companies must budget, by law, what they are going to spend in a straightfoward way so that it is easy to see how much money is going to be spent in the next fiscal year.

My problem with the 2010 budget is the $3.4 trillion figure. They have already commented to spending, by my estimate, another $2.1 tillion during that fiscal year in so called deficit spending. So the real budget for fiscal 2010, as of now with no additional spending, is really $5.5 Tillion. This does NOT include the off budget accounting that they use for SS or Medicare which is somewhere around $60 Tillion right now.
The CFO of a company would go to jail for trying to hide what they were really spending. Why do we allow Congress to do it?

If it is already part of your spending plan, why is it called a deficit and not part of the budget? For me the only reason that comes to mind is that $3.4 Tillion looks and sounds better than $5.5 Trillion.
  • Read about pre-Obama freedoms?
..."but future generations of Americans are going to read about the freedom and opportunity that used to be ... and wonder what went wrong."

I have to disagree with this optimism. Given the tendency of revisionist history that our "Ministry of Truth" has displayed already, what makes you think that these histories and books will even still *exist* for future generations to read?

I rather expect that this brand of National Socialists will have a similar delight in book burning that the last bunch did.
  • GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU'RE HAPPY COPY
and enjoy it while you can because you and all your twisted liberal buddies are going down with this ship with the rest of the nation. And it's sinking faster than you think. See ya' 'round!
  • Copyleft
"A healthcare system that is both cheaper AND more effective than our current, inarguably broken one."

Your logic, as usual, was totally illogical.

Inarguably broken? That is a false premise. I would argue that the system works when not interfered with by Government insistence that it provide gratis treatment or beaten to death by greedy malpractise trial lawyers. Certainly the system, like all systems, could be improved, but you cannot honestly name me one nationalized health care system that works on a par of the US system. And don't quote me biased WHO statistics that ignore factors such as military deaths. Leftist promises that 'our' system will work better than Europe's - without providing any factual basis for that assertion - fall on deaf ears. Just admit you want to control everyone's life and be honest about it for once.
  • Happy? Pretty much - but you won't be.!!
I usually only lurk on these forums, reading the commentary and getting a laugh or two out of the economic ignorance on display by some of the participants of the (copy)left-ish persuasion.

As economist Ludwig von Mises proved in his 1920 treatise "Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth," (available here: http://www.mises.org/store/Economic-Calculation-in-the-Socialist-Commonwealth-P59.aspx), under central planning any rational economic calculation, that is, ANY method to efficiently allocate resources, is practically and theoretically impossible — not just of higher cost, lower quality, and reduced innovation; not just uncoordinated, inefficient, and ineffective; but literally IMPOSSIBLE.

Keep on cheerleading for your Corporatist/Fascist state. You probably don't know that virtually *all* of the major pharmaceutical and health-care Corporations are lobbying *for* this nationalized health-care, do you? Why would these 'caitalist' industries be lobbying *for* state control of TRILLIONS of dollars of GDP? To ask the question is to answer it. There will be a net transfer of wealth from you, to them, with the middle-man (the one holding the gun) skimming off his cut of the booty to fund a massive new bureaucracy that will determine what you will get, when you will get it, and how much. You *think* you're going to get free health-care, but you will be lucky if it takes only 6 months to get an appointment with a General Practitioner.

Contrary to popular belief, Reagan didn't cause the downfall of the Soviet Union. Though his actions probably helped it along, its demise was predicted in 1920. The reason is the impossibility of Economic Calculation. Yet, in spite of all this knowledge being readily available in this, the "Information Age", there remain all these useful-idiot intellectuals who believe that it (socialism) can finally work, if only they can do it here, and they are the one's in charge of it. It will not, and cannot, ever work anywhere. Sure, the Soviet Union lasted some 80-odd years, but go ask a survivor of that regime what a hellhole of a life they lead. The United States still stands today, not because of its Government, but in spite of it.

Lets wrap up with an appropriate H.L. Mencken quote:
"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

You're about to get it. Good and hard.
  • Freedom
Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.
    -Alexis de Tocqueville
  • Who the H*ll is Chopytheft talking to?
Seems like if it can't harangue any of us on the forum, it babbles on by itself – with the idiotic Statist DNC talking points of course.

Question is, if Copyheft speaks and no one listens, is he/she or it still wrong?
  • RE: 17 trillion
I'd like to agree with Brad and ask, Neal, that you please update your article to reflect the difference between the forecast 17 trillion DEBT and the dems getting hysterical over a $455 billion DEFICIT.

Don't get me wrong, I agree this upcoming budget is a travesty, but let us portray it as it is and not invite ridicule by misrepresenting it.
  • Respectfully Disagree
If but for NO other reason than the fact that he is the POTUS, Commander & Chief, Leader of the free world- he deserves respect. To be the "first president who has been so condescending and directly critical", is ones own opinion. I participated at the Atlanta Tea Party, and am a Libertarian- and was upset by the comments he made about the Tea Parties, and about the people who showed up. I have a right to be upset though- just as he had the right to make the comments he did. Disagreement should not be a basis to rationalize disrespect. Give to Ceasar what is Ceasars- and in this case, it is the dignity and respect which comes with the appropriate title for which he was voted in to.
  • Looter-in-Chief. How appropriate
But Neal, you forgot to mention his accomplices in Congress and the 3 traitors (oops, 2 traitors now) in the Senate--Snowe & Collins.

These criminals have destroyed my children's future. They should be impeached, imprisoned and tried for treason.
  • the time for talk is nearing its end
this flat out theft of power from the american people is unethical at least and unconstitutional at best. Within 100 days we have a king-in-cheif who has seized a private auto maker, private banks, fired private employees from said private banks, who has apologized to our enemies and snubbed our allies, who has done more to destroy our nation than any single man has ever done in the past 200+ years of history that our nation has.

We have tried to reason and to vote against the enemies of the untied states, but the left and its organized crime ring has seized power by threatening and lying their way in anyway and explotiing and destroying our founding document, the constitution in the process.

We cannot vote our way out of this, the time for revolution is on the approach. We cannot allow our nation to fall to its enemies because we do nothing to protect it. If we all sit idly by and let it happen our lives, our childrens lives will all be for nothing. FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.. turn off your american idol and WAKE UP. The united states is dying. Are you going to help it? or just turn the other way??
  • Respect?
I try real hard to respect each of our presidents whether I agree with them or not. But this is the first president who has been so condescending and directly critical of a group of voters/taxpayers. So I would say he has lost our respect. Until he shows some for us.
  • R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Neal, I have always been appreciated how very objective you are when making your points and arguments. Not caring if someone agrees with your level of honosty if something I admire. However, Using language like, "Looter in Chief" - as you did in this topic- was disrespectful.
  • The Budget
$3.4 Trillion? Huge Deficits? Who cares, it's all free money anyway, isn't it?? (that was directed at mindless liberals like YOU, CoppyLefft)
  • The only people happy with this budget...
...are the individuals amongst us who have no hand in creating prosperity. They feel safely smug thinking they will not be footing the bill.

What they fail to realize is they will be paying the cost indirectly.
  • Obamas budget
Just step back and look at what we have.Obama is simply put just another "tax and spend liberal".That is their solution to every problem.Liberals never change.Tax and spend. No new ideas.Just tax and spend. If you disagree with them they get personal and go to name calling or hate speech.I guess the reason that liberals always elect tax and spend people into office is because like them, they have never had to make a balanced budget or run a company where you can't just increase you income instead of cutting your costs.Obama is nothing special or new, just another tax and spend liberal.
  • Happy? Pretty much
    Let's see:

A healthcare system that is both cheaper AND more effective than our current, inarguably broken one.

A closer approach to the proper, progressive tax structure that's needed to support economic growth and a thriving middle class.

And investment in conservation, renewable energy, and other ways to get us off the oil habit, which is now a matter of national security as well as common sense.

Yep, I'm pretty happy with this budget. Thanks for asking!
  • Science spending
None of us will be able to see our grandchildren had it not bee for Obama to push more money into science. Of course this is a theory but so is the fear that government is going to control our lives(ex: government may want to outlaw abortions)
  • Joyce
Yeah, it puts in in perspective, don't it? FEMA should put it in their coloring book.
  • $17 Trillion?
Deficits at $17 trillion? I think you mean the national debt will be $17 trillion.
  • Just in case you Statists (And you know who you are..) want to whine about the Definition of Statism
Definition of Statism from the Merriam-Webster online Dictionary:

Concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry.
  • Woman in Kansas
WOAH that graph just made me lose my appetite for breakfast!!! I mean, I've known it but seeing it fulling demonstrated is even scarier!

    Thanks I think.
  • Out with incumbents
Liked this part: "Republicans say Democrats rely on the usual bag of budget tricks: savings that won't appear, spending caps that won't hold, and tax cuts that aren't "paid for" as promised."

    True!
  • The Statists don't care about people or children – they just want power
Can't people get it through their heads that the Statists don't care about Health or 'protecting the children' or any other such nonsense.

The Statist only want power – They have to know that their 'health care' plan will destroy the health care system in this country– just like it has elsewhere.

They don't care that their initiatives to protect the children from guns by disarming the law-abiding will only make things worse – they don't care!!

They just want their power -that they think they are entitled to because they are the smartest people on the planet – just ask them they'll tell you -Repeatedly

They want the power over all of us, they don't care how they get it, or what the results of them having it. They don't give a rip sh*t about people, they just want power.
  • Bush vs Obama deficits in pictures
Is this really the change people voted for?
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/graphic/2009/03/21/GR2009032100104.html
  • Budget
Why are we not rioting in the streets?
  • What went wrong? Obama (not)
"what went wrong. .. Obama, that's what."

No, it's much deeper than that. The people elected him, and by most polls, strongly approve of his job performance. What went wrong? The mis-education of the people over a period of generations.
  • Obama's Budget
I hope everyone on the left is pleased and giddy and bumping chests today, because tomorrow they're going to have to live with THEIR OWNERSHIP OF THIS DEFICIT. As sorry and impotent as the GOP is, at least they won't have to take the blame for what is essentially going to run this nation's future into European style mediocrity.
