I was wondering yesterday how the media would be responding to these anti-tax rallies across the country yesterday. I suggested that the leftist media would be presenting the protestors as rightwing extremist nut jobs who were motivated by greed and wanted to make sure that none of their money was ever used to help the (ugh) "less fortunate."

So, how did it turn out? Have you heard about this CNN reporter named Susan Roesgen? If you have the time and want to listen to her report from the Chicago tea-party you can click right here or watch below. If not, well ... let me tell you. This Roesgen person was, as I said, covering the Chicago rally. She picked out a rather inarticulate person from the crowd: "Ok, you're here with your 2-year-old ... why are you here today?" The protester said that he was here today because he heard the president say that he believed what Lincoln stood for and he then tried to explain Lincoln's attitude toward taxes. Rather than interviewing this guy, Roesgen started to argue with him: "Sir, what does this have to do with taxes? What does this have to do with your taxes?" Then she asked "Do you realize that you're eligible for a $400 credit ...?" At that point the man said "let me finish my point?"

Wait a minute! Read that again? This guy is protesting taxes, and this ignoranus CNN reporter asks him if he realizes that he is eligible for some type of $400 credit? What is she saying? I'll tell you what she's saying. This guy shouldn't be protesting taxes because he's going to be getting a check!

The interview proceeds. The man says that Lincoln believed that people had a right to the fruits of their own labor and that "government should not take it." Roesgen then stuck her finger in his face and said "Do you know that the state of Lincoln gets $50 billion dollars out of this stimulus, that's $50 billion dollars for this state." At this point someone in the crowd says something and the man becomes a bit frustrated. Roesgen turns away and starts talking to the anchor. Now listen to this gem from this wonderful, objective CNN reporter:

"OK, Cara, we'll move on over here. I think you get the general tenor of this. It's anti-government. Anti-CNN since this is highly promoted by the right wing conservative network Fox, and since I can't really hear much more and I think this is not really family viewing it's time to come back to you Cara."

The CNN anchor ... Cara or Kara or whatever ... then says "Wow, that is a prime example of what we're covering here. Susan pointed out everything plain and clear what she's dealing with."

Well .. there you have it. These tax protestors are "anti-government." The don't want to be taxed out of fifty percent of everything they earn .. and they're anti-government. They're also anti-CNN. Where did THAT come from? Do you know that Pew research did a poll last year and found that more Democrats and independents watch Fox News than Republicans? But to Susan Roesgen Fox is right wing and conservative.

The fact is Roesgen was saying just what the Democrats wanted her to say. Last night the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was reporting that "...critics -- especially Democrats -- have labeled the gatherings as frauds created by Republican advocacy groups with the backing of deep-pocketed lobbyists and Fox News." Yup ... these idiots at these rallies couldn't possibly have opinions of their own. They're just a creation of the Republican Party and Fox. Roesgen handled the Democrat message a little clumsily ... but handle it she did.

It was also rather odd that when Roesgen would look into the camera when she was talking about stimulus checks for Illinois. Why? Because she was making her own statement. She was the person being interviewed ... not the actual protestor. She wasn't really that interested in what this guy had to say ... she had her own opinions and she wanted to make sure they got aired.

There you have it folks. This is the way much of the liberal media will be covering the protests today. These are anti-government right-wing kooks

What others are saying

  • Roesgen
How can the tea parties be the creation of the GOP and Fox when the libertarian Party is rightfully claiming ownership of the idea. Will our news media lie to us: Yes but only the under educated sheep and lemmings will believe the lie.
  • I just saw the clip on fox.
I wonder if this air head realizes Obambi has spent more in a few months than ALL of our presidents combined from washington to Bush the second..thats combined all together.. but what does she care you start to talk she cuts you off..you make youre point she redirects attention to something else.typical left wing yesterday mainstream media.. goodbye to romance cnn...
  • Neal, you hit the nail on the head....^%^&&&believable.....she certainly has an agenda. All very scary!!!!
  • Susan Roesgen
Susan Roesgen has cut a wide swath. She was an anchor years ago in San Diego and was problematic there (I know this, a very close relative of mine was her superior), same when she was in New Orleans and she defended Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law on murder charges saying he got a raw deal on CNN's sister station HLN. This individual has a long history of this behavior but as many of us a reminder a reporter's job is to report the news and facts, not to interject your personal bias or thoughts. Susan Roesgen is as she's always been ever since her days in San Diego, not a reporter but a loose canon.
  • Nothing like a little self-importance
I especially enjoyed Susan Roesgen's remark that the protests are "anti-CNN". She is clearly overestimating the importance of CNN, which sounds more like MSNBC each day.
  • Where's the coverage?
We had a great Tea Party here in St. Louis. 6,000-7,000 people, according to park rangers. Almost no media coverage that I can find.

Why? Because it was peaceful. The speakers were respectful of all political parties. The attendees were polite. To these media hacks, that is not news.
  • CNN is now . . . . . .
the Clueless News Network. They could regain a little respect (only a little) if they fire Roesgen immediately.
  • God, how I wish that man had stopped the reporterette and asked this simple question: "Excuse me but is your purpose here to interview me or debate me?".

If that cr@p is journalism I'm the Pope.
  • $400 Tax Credit
That $400 tax credit is a joke – At $65,000 per year I pay more than that in income taxes (not including payroll taxes) every payday ... and I'm supposed to be SO GRATEFUL for that?
  • what stimulus check?
to hell with ignoranus Susan.. Why settle for the small piece of pie, when we can get the whole pie.? FAIRTAX..now
  • CNN Roesgen
This girl should be the poster child for what is wrong with the "news" media in this country and why so many are going down the toilet.

It's apparently not their job to give us news an more, only political propaganda.

What a discrace she is to her profession.
  • It's apparent this is the right path to take
With all the outrage and hub-bub from the Neo-Socio-Fascist Party, it is clear that this is the good fight.

    Forget abortion. Forget gay marriage.

It's all about money and taxes. The spewed bile by the left dictates that we have the right cause that can re-level the playing field.

Now if we can just rid ourselves of the big spending RINO's we might actually have a country left in 20 years.
  • Also
For anyone who thinks the media is leftist, compare the coverage of these stupid, paid for protests compared to the coverage of the vast public opposition to the Iraq War (including the largest and most diverse protests ever).
  • Right wing media
It's ridiculous that anyone could interpret the media's coverage of the "tea parties" as biased against them.

The CNN coverage wasn't biased, though the reporter wasn't tough enough. For those who are oblivious, they are harassing her. There was no way for her to cover it easily. And she didn't say anything wrong. The anti-goverment thing is obvious (I'm fairly certain most of the protestors would be proud of that label). The "not family viewing" is also true, with a bunch of boorish jerks screaming at the reporter to get attention, though I don't agree that a network should restrict itself to family viewing (sometimes the truth is not family friendly). And you can tell from the jeers and outright support by Fox that it is anti-CNN, which again is not in my opinion a good reason not to cover it (but also not a leftist reason).

She maybe should have let the guy speak some more, but he was never going to make a meaningful point. Beyond the fact that the supposed huge increase in taxes these guys are protesting is totally fictional, Lincoln himself actually raised taxes to a much greater degree than Obama imaginably will. Lincoln supported protective tariffs as trade policy, even beyond revenue raising, and he instituted the first income tax. Lincoln did believe in liberty, but he wasn't stupid enough to think that reasonable tax rates went against that liberty, let alone fictional tax increases.

What's really surprising is how Fox has totally given up on even the slightest pretense of being Fair and Balanced. They not showed outright, strong support for these right wing tea partyers, but they helped promote and facilitate the tea parties. They're beyond strongly supporting the Republican party, they are outright working for them.

Regardless of the veracity of it, the study Boortz mentioned means nothing as far as the bias of Fox News. There's far more Democrats and Independents combined in this country than Republicans (though many of the former two do vote Republican).

We need real, tough, reporters in this country. They should have asked these people what additional taxes they were going to pay compared to what they payed in the past; how much their taxes were going to increase. They should have asked where they were when Bush spent trillions on unnecessary wars and corporate giveaways. They should also have asked how this is similar to the nonrepresentation of the actual Boston Tea Party. They should have asked how liberty fit into their agenda.

The answers, of course, being that they aren't paying any more taxes, they don't really care about spending or debt, there is no similarity to the Boston Tea Party, and these people don't even have a vague concept of freedom.

Instead, Fox sponsored and cheered them on, and CNN had them spout some nonsense and then let them scare the reporters off with verbal harassment.
  • what can I say?
    except disgusting.

I went to the Boise ID Tea Party. It was cool until they got to the religious garbage. While I don't have any problem with people who find comfort in religion, this was not the place for it.
  • Cable News Reporting
If a cable news reporter's ineptness is so irritating to Neal, it makes me wonder why he didn't comment when Fox News reported that Alec Baldwin had mistaken Sarah Palin for Tina Fey (when Palin appeared on SNL).
I am getting a sense of desperation from most of the conservative talk show hosts, looking for issues even if they have to make them up.
Remember Hannity trying to convince people that Obama was having an affair with Scarlett Johansson?
  • No Wonder They're In 3d Place
You would think that after getting beaten as bad as they have by Fox News, for as long as they have, MSNBC and CNN would want to try to figure out why they can't catch Fox. I guess they'd rather be liberal than profitable. No wonder so many MSM outlets are going under. This just accelerates the trend.

  • Stimulus Comment
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the $50B in stimulus money she was referring to is TAXPAYER'S money! Where else does she think it comes from???
  • Jeff J.
To your question "Where were the blacks"..I have a couple of politically incorrect answers. 1. Government stats show that whites earn more than blacks. 2. Gov stats also show that most of the taxes are paid by a very small percentage of tax payers. It is not a stretch to make the claim that mostly whites showed up since mostly white people are the ones paying the taxes. Also, as a percentage of population, blacks are more likely to be the beneficiaries of government hand out programs. So, as a rule blacks are more likely to be in favor of big government Obama style of government.

Plus they supported Obama in lock-step and it will take something huge to shake that support. They would have to find Obama in bed with a gay midget or something. Even then most blacks would still support him.
  • The State of Lincoln - UH?
Where is the state of Lincoln? Is that a new state?

I did not hear anyone being anti-cnn. Where did that come from. What a moron. No wonder no one ever listens to to CNN.
  • No Representation
Actually the democrats are trying to change the rules in the senate so things can be passed without 60 votes. Also they don't let republicans have any say in any of the bills they are trying to ram through. I would say this would qualify as taxation without representation.
  • I think we touched a nerve
Please do let yesterday's events be the last of your involvement. I have been a FairTax supporter since the begining and we are thrilled with the volumes of people that took the time to show their support for tax reform - FairTax, FlatTax, NoTax - whatever you believe in we are letting ALL politicians - right/left - local/state/federal know that we are tired of working for their allowance and they need to start earning their keep. Keep talking to people, keep planning and attending events, keep calling, writing and e-mailing your elected officals - we are starting to touch a nerve. Just look at how the Media covers it both extremes - and we are getting both extremes in the responses from Washington... when there is response good or bad..we are making our voices heard! THANK YOU - ALL OF YOU!!!!
  • @ Helen - keepin' the fun alive :-) pt 2
As to my claim about ‘terrorist-coddling hippies’ … I can site Hannity –

To attorney Stanley Cohen: “Is it you have this president or that you hate America?” 4/30/2003

“'I hate America.' This is the extreme left. There is a portion of the left -- not everybody who's left -- that does hate this country and blame this country for the ills of the world" (1/23/02)

“Governor, why wouldn't anyone want to say the Pledge of Allegiance, unless they detested their own country or were ignorant of its greatness?” – 6/12/2003

There are many more quotes like this every day from him, and O’reilly, and Beck. Now, I agree with many of their points, but it’s no fun to point out how much I agree with someone, especially when they call those that disagree with them un-American, or un-patriotic. I just loathe their concentrated viewpoints on Fox without any counterbalance. Part of being an American is living with people you disagree with, and doing it peacefully. Just because someone differs in their views does not make them any less American than you, it just illustrates how we’re all a bunch of different people with different ideas and different morals. During Bush’s term, liberals heard from Fox that if they didn’t like that the country was at war, and spending their tax dollars in ways they did not like, they were welcome to leave the country. Funny, that doesn’t seem to be a reciprocal suggestion, in that it doesn’t apply to the extreme right now that they’re no longer in power.

Thanks for making my work day more fun :-)
  • @ Helen - keepin' the fun alive :-) pt 1
Regarding Habeas Corpus, and my statement that Bush suspended it (and your counter that he did not) I ask that you read this article: http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/rightsandfreedoms/a/habeuscorpus.htm

It is well-known that Lincoln and Bush both suspended Habeas Corpus. In Bush's era, Habeas Corpus combined with the Patriot Act and the paranoid fears of post-9/11 America could have opened up the legal opportunity for the government to apprehend, and detain without trial, citizens of the United States. All it would take would be for the Government to renounce their citizenship and poof! they're no longer Americans, they are enemy combatants. Now, imagine if Obama had done that, in combination with the recent right wing extremism report which came out of DHS this last week, and tell me that you have nothing to fear from your trustworthy government.

Yes, I know LizardMan Carville is a former Dem strategist, and I'm sure he talks with WH staffers. But, look at Fox.. Rove works there now, Tony Snow (whom I liked) was recruited from Fox, and virtually all exclusive interviews during the Bush administration were granted to Fox. Pair that up with their selection of prime-time commentators, and you have a network that is blatantly biased. Yes, CNN, MSNBC, and all the other liberal news organizations are losing ratings, but that is because their audience is predominantly getting their news online. Fox's audience is mostly middle-aged or older, and those groups of people are less tech-savvy. This is why talk radio doesn't demand a huge audience of young people... young folks don't like the fidelity of AM. Fox’s ratings have nothing to do with the quality of news, people tune to it to hear what they agree with.

To your point about Rev. Wright, yes, I know Fox thought it was a story and presented it. That has merit, it was a story, and it needed to be brought to light. BUT – Fox dwelled on that story and tried and tried and tried to drill it into the public because they have an AGENDA (just like other news organizations have an agenda). The difference between you and I is that I acknowledge that all corporate news organizations carry an agenda, and you believe that all news organizations except for Fox have an agenda. If their afternoon lineup of commentators, Beck, O’reilly, Hannity, and Greta (when she can tear herself away from the latest beautiful white damsel in distress story) is not enough to show that they are not “Fair and Balanced” as they claim to be, I know not what could convince you of their abundant bias.
  • Oh Dear Susan!
Just got the sound to work in my crudy speekers and heard the Susan Roesgen "report", wow that sure was hard hitting reporting! I did like the CNN version of let's blame Fox News for this whole protest...did she seemed more then a little bitter? Was that because she could not get a job at Fox News and had to settle for CNN? Hmmm……?
  • Missing the story
Neal, you and everyone else in the blogosphere/talk radio need to see the real takeaway from this story. It was that toss back to the studio with "I think this is not really family viewing..." That is the blatent bias line that needs to be hung around CNN's neck. Act UP, Cindy Shehag, the G20 rioters, those are all fit for family viewing but perfectly peaceful tax protesters aren't?

With a little work it could really damage CNN's reputation..... not that they have much left going by the ratings it appears even most Socialists (known in the US as Democrats or liberals) have abandoned the network for it's lack of news content.
  • no negros???
I can tell the airhead CNN babe why there where no negros at the tea parties. 1.people of all colors were bizzy workin'.
    2. with unemployment in the negro community so high they have to keep their jobs by being at work.
    3. with so many in the negro community unemployed, who the hell cares about taxes.
    finally
    4. no food, no sports, no free stuff.

I have been saying all along the stinking muslim marxist non US citizen in the whitehouse is a stinking marxist muslim.

Who besides a stinking marxist muslim would cover religious icons at a university founded by a religious group many years ago.

    Be afraid be very afraid.
  • Welcome to the NWO...
We are in for a crazy ride the next few years. I wish all of you the best. Make sure you protect your families. The New World Order has arrived. We need to proceed with great caution cause we are treading into very dark waters.
  • Who said "only watch FOX news"?
"When you limit yourself to only one source of information, like Fox, then you're essentially granting them the right to determine what you hear, and therefore have great power in molding your opinion. Getting rid of CNN and MSNBC wouldn't solve any problems, it would just give Fox complete control over your perspective of the world."

That is why I read articles posted on the Huffington Post, RightWingNews, Politico, Boortz, Salon, and whatever else people will link via twitter, forums, whatever. I also listen to radio shows and read essays and columns posted by both sides. I don't need to buy a newspaper to stay informed. Fox/CNN/ABC/NBS/CNBC/CBS aren't the be-all/end-all of political information. How's that for getting a wide enough perspective???
  • the 2 year old
Should have let the two year old talk. Perhaps she was aware that our government doesn't have any money to give anybody or state. Perhaps she realizes that it will be her and her generation who is left to carry the burden of our governments' bailing, socializing, nationalizing, and promising.
  • Forrest, you fail.
    "
“the founding fathers did Not make income taxes legal, in fact, they made it ILLEGAL!” – Please see U.S. Constitution, Article 1, section 8.1: The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States: but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States. …...Article 1 is as “Founding Father” as it gets."

    AMENDMENT XVI
Passed by Congress July 2, 1909. Ratified February 3, 1913.

Note: Article I, section 9, of the Constitution was modified by amendment 16.

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

    Epic Fail.
  • This is why the lefties do it.
They misquote, misrepresent, and circumvent anything their oposition says in hopes that they will create an audience for thier non-sense. By doing this they also draw our focus away from what we should be concentrating on, the very people causing the issue, Congress. We know the facts, we know that most of the people arguing against these facts are loons. Let the loons lie and don't give them merit by arguing back.
  • What have we learned...
Nothing new. Just confirming what so many of us have suspected for years...the media has a real h@^don for conservatives. That poor little CNN reporter was about to burst at the seams. She just couldn't stand having someone cite Lincoln or explain what the Founding Fathers had in mind(which, if I'm not mistaken, includes freedom of speech for everyone...). I hope she is proud of herself. She just became the new poster child for liberal bias in reporting. Once again, you're only allowed to voice an opinion if you are on the left, otherwise, you must be a racist, a bitter conservative, or just another right wing extremist. And please don't bore us with the facts, and that 'Constitution' thingie...OMG! I can picture the comments by Copyleft and the rest of the CNN contingent...don't even have to read them! "We won, you lost, get over it!" Yes, that's why we're starting early to boot the useless ones out of Congress first and then set our sights on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. People are already tiring of the ridiculous way liberals do things and the leash is going to get even shorter. And the best part, we didn't have to pay anyone to get on a bus and travel. Yo, CNN, I got something extreme for ya right here! zzzzzzzzzip... Oh, BTW, Forrest, Fox makes much more of an effort to balance their reports than anyone in the media..you just hate them 'cause they still let Hannity and O'Reilly loose, and they don't drink your flavor of Koolaid!
  • OK, Don, be proud of the guy, but .. .
What you fail to realize is that people like that fellow who either refused or was unable to explain why he thought Obama is "a fascist" are NOT CONVINCING swing voters and ideological moderates to come to their side.

If you're marketing a product . . . say "Don's Chocolate Chip Cookies", and I ask you why I should buy your cookies, and all you can tell me is "they're the best", I'm gonna ask "how so?", and if you respond, "Because they're the best", I'm going to reach for the Chips Ahoy instead. On the other hand, if you can talk to me about ingredients, freshness, value for the money, chewiness, etc., then you might sway me.

Maybe Obama is very clearly a "fascist" to someone like you, but to the other 90% of America, this is not self-evident, so help us see the light. Make your case. Tell me your definition of fascism and cite specific examples of how Obama is practicing it.

"Because he is!" will not get one single moderate or liberal to change his or her mind. "Because" is a 3rd grader argument, and when used on your 3rd grade teacher as an excuse for why you hit Sally at recess will not keep you out of the principal's office.
  • Reporting
Can we all just put this notion that reporters were or ever have been fair and balanced? They never have been and never will be! This is just a plain old historical fact. Can anyone even name a reporter who did not in at least some small way show favoritism towards or dislike of a story?

Fox News had to cover the Tea Parties in a favorable manner since most of their talent was at them. On the other hand CNN had to be less than supportive because they did not want Fox News to succeed.

The question is where are we going after this? Back to work, back to paying taxes, back to complaining about the Congress and President Obama? If we want to truly change things then we need to get our state governments to step forward and insist that the feds. adhere to the 10th Amendment, just as we must insist that the feds. adhere to the 9th! Will it take a new amendment that redefines in very uncertain terms how much authority the feds have in every conceivable matter in manner that even a Carter appointed Federal Judge can understand?
  • What Susan Roesgen was telling the man.
She was telling him to take his government determined 'share' of the loot, go home, and quit complaining.

In her view the man wishing to keep what he earns, and let others keep what they earn, though it's 'legal' and he would personally benefit in the short term, is unreasonable and illogical. The immorality of theft never figures into her 'logic,' only the legality and politics.

I almost added, "not to mention the long term social nd economic effects," but I think that's the whole idea, make everybody a complicit thief and retard wealth creation, advancement, and upward mobility. It doesn't matter if she is even conscious of it, the result is the same, a nation of immoral thieves content to get their cut of chump change.

Now bring on the good bed wetting stuff I'm used to from you;)
  • @ Helen, pt 2
“But FOX news saw this as a NEWS story! Duh!” – Fox made this a story. It was sponsored by its anchors. Fox made a business decision. It knows it caters to the moral conservatives, and it is making an effort to rebrand moral conservatism as fiscal conservatism. I’m not against the movement, but there needs to be a little honesty here… Fox pushed this.

…...Article 1 is as “Founding Father” as it gets.

Yes, I support the Fair Tax and the repeal of the 16th Amendment, but you were mistaken in stating that taxes were illegal until the 16th Amendment was ratified. Who was that Texas Democrat? I thought it took three-fourths of all states to ratify an Amendment, not a single individual…

You ma’am are the ignoramus for stating “[people] don't like the fact of the government spending money they DON'T HAVE...IT'S EITHER COMING FROM CHINA OR YOUR TAXES!” - Here’s the deal… Our government is not spending our tax money right now… they’re spending money that they aren’t raising through taxes. They are simply lowering the value of the dollar as a short-term fix to this bailout. It is a taxing process, in that it fatigues the dollars you and I already have, but it does not TAX us. Please see Ron Paul’s take on the Fed Bank, he knows what he is talking about and can explain it better than I can.

Cigarette taxes are an apportioned tax, and is a tax which is actually fully supported in the Constitution, and was the original means of raising income for the government. If I don’t want to pay that tax, I have a choice.

Call me a liberal if you wish, but don’t discount how much I actually might agree with you on.
  • @ Helen, pt 1
Ok, let me address your points..

“We have a REPUBLIC!!!” – Citizens in a Republic don’t vote for Senators or Presidents. Please see my subsequent post @ Tim

“NOT ALL COLONIES WANTED TO BE FREED FROM ENGLISH RULE” – Don’t really see the relevance of this statement, which I understand and am aware of. According to this statement, you’re advocating that only the wealthy should have deciding power in the original design of our government. The beauty in America’s design is Her ability to adapt over time to the will of the people, which is why blacks no longer count as 3/5 of a person. Sometimes going back to the beginning doesn’t mean getting better quality.

I agree with Polk, the National bank should not exist. Taxes should only be levied through an apportioned means (cigarettes, gasoline, etc.), as specified in the Constitution prior to Amendment 16.

“Obama has spent MORE in his first 3 MONTHS as President than ALL 43 Presidents combined!!!!!” – I have heard this a few times from diehard righties, but have never seen actual numbers or confirmation that it was adjusted for inflation. I somehow doubt that Obama has spent more than FDR, Eisenhower, Reagan, Bush and Nixon (I’m a centrist, I’m allowed to lump Democrats and Republicans in criticism). I’m open to facts, please present them.

  • Let's Take it to the Mall of DC!
What we really need to do is plan for tax day 2010 and take the protest to the National Mall! When the representatives see us all there, packing out the mall, brandishing our signs, they will know this is a growing movement to take back our gov't and contain spending.

I'm 35, and I was very proud to see so many young, college-aged kids at the ATL Tea party yesterday.

Also, the tea party was very organized, and everyone was very polite. I saw no disruptions or property damage. Or any KKK.
  • re: Roesgen and the MSM
Of course there was the obligatory disprespect from the effete liberal MSM, (CNN and MSNBC, in particular)who just can’t understand why average, working class Americans would be pissed off at government gouging and THE ONE.
It goes without saying that Roesgen is a mealy-mouthed leftwingnut CNN hack who thought she could stick her microphone in a patriot’s face and intimidate him. No dice.

Congratulations, CNN. Take a good look at her behavior and you’ll see why your ratings are in the toilet.

The MSM largely ignored the protests because they weren’t comprised of left-over unemployed 60’s radicals burning George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in effigy. When you’re talking about a 21st century Tea Party movement representing millions of people who’ve never protested before, or rarely protested, that’s something that makes the liberal media crap their pants. They’d rather ignore it than acknowlege it, or simply insult those who take a stand against THE ONE they helped put into office. Maybe a large crowd in front of the New York Times, CNN, or MSNBC might get their attention…if they come out from under their desks.
  • Hey, CNN Viewer
Do you know the definition of Fascism? The government runs everything. They tell the car companies what to build and the banks where to lend money. They tell the ststes to take the money and where to spend it. Sounds just like Obama, does it not??
  • Leftist Idiots
Hugo seems to think that laying all the taxes on the top few percent is not tyrany. What would he call it?
Copyleft is convinced that the 3000 tea parties were organized by the far right promoters and Fox News. If he checked the web sites he would find hunreds of organizers all over the country. This is obviously not a Right Wing Conspiracy.
CNN Viewer has to be one of the dimmest in that he/she does not understand that Fascism is exactly what is happening. Are we proud of this guy? Of course we are. He is one of the few that understands what Fascism really is.
  • Tea parties
I attended a local party last night and was amazed to see several passersby angry about the rally...accusing us of being "haters" and "racist". I didn't realize that hating big government was a direct affront to The One himself. Surfed between Fox and CNN during Hannity last night. While Hannity covered the tea parties, CNN did a story on "paranoid" Americans buying guns. Never did see a mention of the tea parties.
  • Forest's post @10:10
Forest, Forest, Forest.....Have you been living under a rock? Try watching only NBC, CBS, and ABC for decades. That was the ONLY choice most Americans had in getting their news. Talk about ONE source of information. CNN has Paul Begala and James Carville who also call the WH everyday. ABC has George Stephanopoulus (sp?) and he is the voice of the WH too. Where is the unbias reporting? The left HATES Fox because they do not report the same b.s. as the MSM have been doing for years. They are losing audience and are scared and jealous. I've never heard ONE single Fox reporter refer anyone who is against the war "terrorist coddling hyppies". The other networks FAILED to mention that Bill Ayers who DID participate in terrorism held Obama's first campaign party in his house. They simply IGNORED that and didn't think Rev. Wright was important either. Only Fox thought it was important that a man running for President sat in a hate-filled church for 20 years.
Next, Habeus Corpus was NOT suspended by Bush. Of the Americans caught in the battlefield in Afgahnistan and Iraq - all have had their day in court already. The GITMO dettainees are not representing a state, therefore, the Geneva Convention does NOT apply. These prisoners are NOT Americans, therefore, they do not get representation in American courts. The wire tapping cases are from FOREIGN countries that come through the U.S. and there are only a handful at best. My best friend worked as a Arabic translator in GITMO and these people are very dangerous. They constantly threaten with death threats to OUR soldiers and get treated better than ANY convict here. They would Not give a rat's butt in contemplating YOUR rights if they were free.
  • CNN "reporter"
What a partisan hack. If CNN had any shame they would be embarrassed. We all knew that the MSM had long since abandoned any pretence of impatiality, along with journalistic ethics. This is just the latest typical example.
  • The right not allowed to protest..
It's perfectly alright for tens of thousands of illegal aliens to march in Los Angeles demanding rights and welfare. But not okay for a few thousand unhappy taxpayers to protest, per the liberal mainstream media.

Yeah, right. The revolution might be sooner than I thought.

  • CNN
Before this "reporter" talked with the man with his daughter, she bereated another man for having a poster of Obama dressed like Hitler. She that was offensive. However, in a 2006 CNN report, she said that a man wearing a Bush mask with horns and a Hitler mustache was a look-a-like. So now all of a sudden she has ethics when someone is lampooning the President???
  • @ Big Africa
    Now you know...
...the frustrations the Ron Paul supporters felt when CNN/FOX propagandists(some call them reporters) would simply make nonsense up as they went during the 2008 presidential campaign. And by the way the Ron Paul followers were the very first ones to start tea parties across the nation, its just the media once again dismissed common sense as right wing lunacy. Glad to see Neal and massive groups of people around the country coming around to Ron Paul ideas. If we keep on this path this country WILL be fixed! Hopefully more people can start to see the need for the elimination of the Federal Reserve also.

    HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Huh?
"She picked out a rather inarticulate person from the crowd"
Sorry, that statement made me chuckle. Like they did an articulation test on the crowd and picked the guy who finished last ;)

I like the idea behind the tea parties. However, I don't like the people that are joining them. Where were these people during the last 8 years when gov't growth was at its highest during the FDR years?
  • You should have long ago been used to it...
It is no more a CNN's (or MSNBC, or CBS, or ABC...) reporter's job these days to report the news as it is Bill O'Reilly's, Sean Hannity's, or Neal Bortz' job to report the news.

Our media is reduced to editorializing from preconceived or dictated notions and prejudice.

So, get over it, and continue to support that one network which at least makes an attempt to separate news from editorial.

I guess that's why they trump the other networks so severely.
  • CNN "reporting"

Just to let you know, the Department of Homeland Security has photos of every one of you conservative extremists that dared attend these Tax Parties and they are now processing the necessary information for the IRS to begin sending out this year’s audit letters. • Darn leftist media with their facts.... (snicker)
well... that'll teach me to make sure MY name is in the "your name" box next time. :P
  • @ Tim
Tim, I concede to your point, but offer further clarification on mine. We were originally drafted as a representative republic, back when Senators were selected by the Governor and State Legislators, and the President was chosen through an actual Electoral College. Over the first 100 years of our Union, our processes evolved to that of a representative democracy. By definition, a representative democracy is a type of democracy in which the citizens delegate authority to elected representatives, which is what we do. In a representative republic, we elect representatives to the state level, and those representatives elect representatives to the federal level on our behalf. So, I agree, we are a representative republic by original design, but we've not really practiced that system for over a century due to the invention of speedy communication (starting with the railroad) which led to the direct involvement of the public in the democratic election of federal representatives.
  • what happened after the cnn carera were off
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd2tg8gxCDU
  • Yes, and FOX was so neutral. Neil Cuveto got caught making numbers up. When a major media station activily encourages people to attend it looses any grass roots label.
  • Tim, if the dolt on CNN wanted convince ideological opponents, he needs to do more than call people names
My point was simply this: the fellow was on CNN live and had a chance to articulate his opinion to a national television audience.

So he repeatedly asserts Obama is a "fascist", and is given several chances by the reporter to back up this rather bold assertion with some evidence or facts or deeper explanation, he was completely unable or unwilling to do so.

"Why is he a fascist?" "Because he is" is not going to convince others of his point. It only serves to make himself look like an idiot and undermine the rest of the protestors, whom I'm sure on average were at least somewhat more intelligent. But the clip I referenced is now the one circulating among moderates and those on the left, and it is not winning friends for your side.
  • @ That woman in Kansas
I completely agree that our Representatives are ideological fools, but I also acknowledge that WE put them into office. It sounds like you should elect someone different to represent you. The point is, you have a Representative, whether they are a slacker, or have a differing viewpoint than yours, you still have a Representative, and I'll bet they are bringing home bailout money (your tax dollars) back to your state (an effective federal tax refund at the state level) so you are still represented. My gripe was with those that misuse that ‘No Taxation Without Representation’ mantra. Attending a rally in Atlanta when you live in Tallahassee doesn’t really send a message to your Congressman, especially when that rally is rather small (sorry). If you don’t like your Representative, target that Representative and protest them in your district, or seek their office. I can say that this week I went to my Representative's office and sat down with the head staffer for half an hour and discussed my concerns. Maybe if more people took that kind of action our Representatives would pay attention.
  • Be grateful for your pittance
That seems to be the attitude from this "reporter". A $400 credit and the gift of a $50 billion in stimulus from our benevolent leaders. How dare you people be outraged?

I wonder if Susan is aware of where the $50 billion originated from. Oh well, the government clearly knows how to spend your money better than you do.

  • Copyleft...
...you maintain that these events were right wing lobbyist sponsored events? According to you, CNN was spot on in their analysis regarding "The principal organizers of the local events are actually the lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works." you must mean Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity (as interviewed in a CNN piece of all places). Truth be told he coordinated exactly three of the 800-100 events that happened over the country. The rest were coordinated by local and regional "offices" linked by blogs and chat rooms. I believe that the primary web site has three national organizers. I attended a local event that had over 300 show up. My brother in law is the local organizer, HE VOTED FOR OBAMA and has since decided he made a mistake.

Next thing you will say is that the Million Man March and the Million Mom Marches were spontaneous "grass roots" movements...just like Code Pinko
  • It could be a good thing...
When it gets to the point that the "objective" reporters on the left start hurling insults you know a nerve has been touched.
The FairTax rallies demonstrate handily that not everyone is willing to fall under the spell of Utopia and it hurts their ego.
The old saying is; "a hit dog will holler" and the more they holler the more we know they've been hit
  • Has CNN made a statement yet? How many of us have written the pres of CNN to ask about this mean spirited attack?
  • Protesting rather than working?
I got into work an extra hour early and stayed at work late that day so I could take an extended lunch to be at a two hour rally. I did not miss any work. Many other people probably used one of their vacation days to go (which are part of the compensation package of their job and obviously acceptable to use for whatever purpose).
  • Re Luke
I don't know where you went in Missouri, or if you even did.

I was at the one in Rush Limbaugh's home town of Cape Girardeau and it was a mighty fine time! There was no racial hate, no gunfire, and no riots in the streets.

What I saw and heard were people with common concerns exercising their right to assembly.
  • Susan Roesgen
I think everyone should cut Susan Roesgen some slack. Put yourself in her shoes for a moment, and try to understand she has to service 10-15 tricks/johns to make $400. So that amount money bestowed from our keepers does change lives.
  • Forest's post
Oh, MY GOSH! I just HAVE to reply to this idiotic post. First, Forest, we do NOT have a representative democracy! Sorry, but you are wrong!!!! We have a REPUBLIC!!! The founding fathers were SCARED to death of a democracy! Next, the Revolutionary War wasn't just about the "never to be used again" slogan of taxation without representation. Sorry, but it was not just about taxation. The King of England kept changing the rules in our courts, representation, taxes, no trading with France or other countries - only England, etc. Alexander Hamilton actually smuggled goods into the Bahamas to send to the Colonies. Next, NOT ALL COLONIES WANTED TO BE FREED FROM ENGLISH RULE! They believed that the ONLY people who should vote were land owners! If you believe that this whole thing is a marketing gimmick from FOX news then YOU are the idiot. Even President Polk wanted to do away with the National Bank and wanted to use tariffs on coffee to pay for the government. And the POOR people were the ones to be affected because that was a luxury to them. That of course, did NOT go over well and didn't pass. People from all walks of life are mad as heck with this spending. Obama has spent MORE in his first 3 MONTHS as President than ALL 43 Presidents combined!!!!! Now, you can put all the leftist hate spin on this and call it a fad. But FOX news saw this as a NEWS story! Duh! And for YOUR education, the founding fathers did Not make income taxes legal, in fact, they made it ILLEGAL! Not until the 16th amendment did it become legal by means of a Texas democrat who told his fellow congressmen that it would ONLY affect the rich in the northeast! Now, whose the spinner here? You are the ignoramus here with calling people uneducated who don't like the fact of the government spending money they DON'T HAVE...IT'S EITHER COMING FROM CHINA OR YOUR TAXES! Please do the math and take a history lesson. Last, but not least, it is a total LIE that Obama tells us that ONLY the people making over $250,000 get a tax hike. NOT TRUE! They've raised cigarette taxes. Know what? Most people making under $50,000 smoke. Tax hike. Point made, Forest.
  • Lincoln
WTF! "Do you know that the state of Lincoln gets $50 billion dollars out of this stimulus, that's $50 billion dollars for this state."
When did we get a new state?????????
  • Slanted Coverage
I was at the Chicago protest. Very well organized, great signs and great speeches. Federal Plaza was full to overflowing. My guess, 3,000 people.

I watched as many local news channels as I could at 9 and 10. They ran video from before or after the noon event when the crowd was thinner and claimed low numbers. The Chicago Tribune buried it on page 12 and only ran quotes from statist democrat politicians who were not even there!
  • Forrest
I have to say that I agree with your general thought here. While there are many people at these gatherings who are educated and who do know the facts--there are also plenty of people who show up to these protest(on both sides of the isle) who are generally fuel by emotion and not much more.

Republicans are trying to copy the left, but without the media support that the left receives--we all end up looking like a bunch of fools because that is what is reported. I like the overall energy, and I am happy to see that people are waking up, but it would be nice to have some fresh ideas and some real leadership.

I actually find it a bit ironic that liberals believe this entire thing to be orchestrated by "lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works" because this would have been a preferred move, in my opinion. We need real leadership here, not just a bunch of morons running around with stupid signs.
  • Tax protest
Copy and his ilk have fun deriding the "Reagan trickle down economy". Well brace yourself because we will soon have the Obama "Trickle Down Taxes". Anyone who truly beleives that the taxes will only be on the "evil rich" has been filling the pockets of the Mexican drug lords, by walking around in a pot induced stupor. Take NY's proposal of a "millionare tax" that starts to kick in at $200,000 (but I thought it was a millionare tax?). Wait until we are all taking it in the backside(use your imagination) with increases in all our utilities with the Carbon Cap & trade plan. (its not really a tax, its for the children)
  • Letfies mentality
Over and over the Lefties in this country can never understand nor tolerate anything not in lockstep with their religion, [SOCIALISM] They are raised with the mentality of someone needs to do everything for us so we can feel secure. Where the rest of us have to earn everything by ourselves and generally view Government intrusion as wasteful and overbearing at its best.
I have a few liberal freinds and one thing they have in common is weakness deep in the inner core. Just watch obama in his next few years and see what I mean. Already the left has started attacking our veterans and opposition through homeland security. I will bet that the guidelines have already been changed for the muslim's. obamas speech overseas was shameful to listen to the ingrate calling America names then appeasing islam by saying the US is not a christian nation. Did he forget his history or decide to rewrite the wording in the Constitution.
    SEMPER FI
  • Constitutional Convention
It's time to start agitating for a constitutional convention. Neal, you all libertarian and conservative commentators need to get behind this. I am starting to believe that nothing else is going to stop this process of finally burying the republic. IMHO, that would include amendments to require original interpretation by the courts with a provision for strict adherence by the legislative and the executive branch to separation of powers and to the amendment process (no more making it up as you go along), a limit on the % of GDP that could be borrowed or taxed away from citizens except for dire emergencies where 2/3rds of the House and Senate agreed to a temporary increase and repeal of the 16th and 17th amendments.
  • protests
It seems like that protest are only for left-wing radicals and liberals.
  • Orlando Media
Wow the turn out in Orlando was over 5,000 people! The OrlandoSlantinel actually coverd the story in the correct light too. This was Orlando's second tea party in a month.
  • To Forrest
Yes, Forrest, there was an election last fall. I would hardly call members of Congress who vote on bills without reading them "representation."
  • @ Mark
Mark, in the interest of being fair and balanced, wouldn’t you like to be able to watch what others are watching, and see both sides of an argument? When you limit yourself to only one source of information, like Fox, then you're essentially granting them the right to determine what you hear, and therefore have great power in molding your opinion. Getting rid of CNN and MSNBC wouldn't solve any problems, it would just give Fox complete control over your perspective of the world. Think for yourself, question authority (and the media) and inform yourself of all positions, even the ones you disagree with. The only way to truly serve your role as a voter in our society is to inform yourself on all sides, from all perspectives, and then make a decision.

As to your point about CNN insulting average Americans, you must forget that it was acceptable for Fox to refer to people that disagree with them as anti-American, terrorist-coddling hippies. Well, one can take a pro-American stance and be anti-torture, but Fox didn't see things that way. You wouldn't hear anyone on Fox state that when Habeas Corpus was suspended by Bush, that yes, the terrorists could be detained without trial. Fine. But what then of a US citizen that they want to detain for suspected terrorist activities? They could simply negate his citizenship, and he'd lose all rights including right to trial by a jury of his peers, in the interest of national security of course. Any American could be legally held, with no right to trial, because Habeas Corpus was suspended so that we could detain terrorists, and this also gave the Government the right to hold a US Citizen without cause or due process. You don't get that side of the argument from Fox...
  • CNN's criteria for family viewing
Watching right wing extremists protest is NOT family viewing, but watching a right wing extremist getting blown away by an al Qaeda sniper IS family viewing.
  • For those of you who think this was astroturfing
I have another term for you: sour grapes. You are just upset that hundreds of thousands to millions of people showed up at hundreds of rallies across the country to protest big government when you could not muster anywhere near those numbers for your precious war protests.

As for astroturfing, many efforts by disgruntled Americans are going to be called astroturfing for the next several years. The fact is that people would have gone to the tea parties regardless of Fox News or talk radio hosts being there. This is illustrated by there being over SEVEN HUNDRED events. Were they all covered and promoted by Fox, Hannity, Rush, and Boortz? Methinks not. Sure there was some promotion going on, but not nearly as much promotion of Obama administration policy by other media groups. They were negative about the tea parties to a much greater degree than Fox was positive about them. The hatred towards the tea party attenders was sickening. If Fox News treated war protesters the same, we would not hear the end of it.

The irony is that the left would jump off a cliff if the New York Times or CNN told them to do so. But traditional liberal media is about to suffocate from insufficient funds. Raise your glasses and toast to schadenfreude.
  • CNN Viewer, you need to study fascism
Sorry, but fascism is a system under which government leaves the means of production in private hands, but takes control over it and forces it to sumbit to government direction.

How is that different from what we are seeing in this country?
  • Kamisar reporter
These two women collectively have the IQ of a basket of cabbages! The same mentality as the “protestors” of Tom Tancredo at the Peoples republic of Chapel Hill Tuesday night. Freedom of speech is allowed, but only if it is the “proper “speech. Any speech not from the DNC/PC talking points need not apply! The two of them will probably get the “Legion Of Merit Award” From CNN, and we will award them the “Footstool Stooge of the Day Award”! I hope this is shown over & over until the masses understand why the battle is so important.
These folks in Chicago really have a right to beef. Cook County just had a big Sales tax increase to 10.25% (10.75 in the city) plus a big property tax increase. In the mean time it was discovered that Cook County Hospital was not checking insurance info, residency, etc. They were also not BILLING anyone who used the services. There was a influx of “patients” from 3 states & surrounding counties stopping by for free (universal) healthcare at the county’s expense. Not to mention the 9 month “temporary” Head commissioner who now qualifies for $100,000+ pension plus the 100,000 pension from the Chicago City Council.
  • Darn leftist media with their facts.... (snicker)
yeah... b/c those housewives who got this movement started certainly are part of the vast right-wing conspiracy...
  • Longbow64
there are stateist on the republican side as well.
  • Forrest, you are not entirely correct
We are a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC, not a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY.

Sorry, it may sound trivial to you and others, but there is a clear difference, and I for one do not want to live in a DEMOCRACY. Why? Democracy is 5 wolves and 2 sheep trying to decide what to have for dinner.
  • CNN
First, to Luke: Why is it wrong for some groups in your mind to protest like Code Pink and others who a couple of weeks ago at the G20 summit were far more violent than yesterday? Those leftists groups were given plenty of coverage. Did we hear any reports of any violence yesterday? And lastly, you are missing the point, as most leftists do! THAT stimulus package either comes from CHINA or money that will be taxed from you and me. WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM? If you HAVE nothing in your checking account, then HOW can you pay for anything?
Second, as far as the reporter from CNN is concerned, she should be fired! How unprofessional. She never let the guy finish his point but wanted to spin the liberal talking points. Her JOB is to ask questions on WHY he is protesting on tax day. She didn't like the fact that he was raising Lincoln as an example. I might add this woman knows nothing about civics or history. She probably doesn't know Lincoln also denied habeas corpus to many and threw his detractors in jail. Exactly who Obama wants to emulate..... She is also ignorant that the income tax was NOT constitutional until the 16th amendment in the early 1900's. TR wouldn't sign it because he knew an income tax was unconstitutional. Someone make her go back to school.
  • Know your history
"Hugo, I truly believe you are stuck on stupid! You keep making the same comment! This goes way beyond 3%."

The reason for the 3% is that was the percent increase in taxes that triggered our rebellion against England.

We've gone so far beyond that today. The point is that our founding fathers would have revolted again many years ago. We're coming late to the scene.
  • CNN coverage
Saw Anderson Cooper on CNN besmirching the tax protesters with crude inuendo about "teabagging". Wow, this from the King of the "teabaggers". LOL
  • Simple Susan
What a stupid idiot! CNN should just come out of the closet, stop calling itself a "news" organization, and admit what they truly are: America's Pravda; America's Al-Jazeera; America's Tass. What a pitiful, sorry, brain-damaged bunch CNN are.
  • They can't all be as AWESOME as Steve Doocy
This just goes to show that all networks employ idiots. This lady was on par with Steve Doocy and most of the other attractive talking heads on Fox. We don't have reporters anymore, we only have hot chicks that catch the eye (or dapper older men like Doocy who lure in the up-at-5am-to-read-the-paper grannies) and none of them have any substance at all. No facts, no preperation, and they all have an agenda, be it corporate or personal. I love how critics of the mainstream media always forget that Fox is the leading news organization in America, and somehow, that makes them not-mainstream. Wake up people, Fox is a business too, and they are out for advertising dollars. They are exactly like CNN in reporting, but differ greatly on their commentary programs. You get the same crappy reporters on all the stations.
  • CNN.com
Not a SINGLE mention of the tea party protests on the front page of their site this morning... We as a country as SOOO in trouble if we cant keep this movement going!
  • Anti CNN
Susan is right . If you are against taxes then you are against this government, and against CNN, because under Obama, CNN is the chief supporter of government.
  • Ratings
This is the reason why the ratings at MSNBC and CNN are tanking. They cannot handle the reality of the moment, so they resort to insulting average Americans? I wish my cable provider would give me the option of whether or not I want these two programs.
  • “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!”
    “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!”

Seriously, I’ve seen these signs all over Hannity, Cavuto, Beck and Oreilly’s shows… and they never call them out as being morons. It’s ok to show idiots in Harlem that think all these oddball positions about Obama, but when some moron is on the right, they don’t mention it. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION was a slogan in 1773, when we were a colony without representation in British Parliament. If these yahoos could remember last November, there was an election, which means there is representation.

I’m just ranting… I can’t stand idiots who don’t know their own nation’s history, and then try to exploit it. There were 4,435 registered casualties of the Revolutionary War, and those men died so that no American would ever have to use the slogan NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION again, and the collective ignorance of the people using this slogan on tax day is offensive, and an embarrassment to all who take pride in the fact that we have had a REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY for more than 230 years.

This whole thing is a marketing gimmick promoted by Fox News. I appreciate the meaning and enthusiasm, but these people just make the movement look like a stupid joke. I bet these rallies (which dilute the true patriotism displayed in Boston in 1773) will amount to merely a glorified display of the ignorance of the conservative American public, and will set back the true conservative movement (not the Republican movement, mind you) by a decade. In 5 years, people will look back and laugh at these rallies. Not to be a Debbie-Downer, but there is no organization here... no leader... no direction. Just a bunch of angry uneducated people getting together to gripe, while not promoting any responsible solutions. They aren't really pushing the Fair Tax, they're actually in some cases stating that they don't feel they should have to pay any taxes at all. They need a cause to fight for, not a reason to whine and complain, and without a cause and a leader, this is destined for failure. It is a fad, and will go the way of the side-of-the-head ponytail by the end of the year if a leader and a cause do not emerge.
  • re,, she was right
So Luke, you went to protest the rally?? I thought you "progressives" believed in the right to dissent. I guess it is only those whom agree with you that have that right. How typical!

    You "SEEN"???

YOU are the epitome of stupid and part of the ignorant ilk that voted Obama into office.

.....it's time for your pablum and your nap......
  • How did this get out?
Thank you to the producer or whomever thought to put this out!!! I salute you! No one would have believed this, if the story was "told" instead of "taped"!

Media bias??? Why NOOOo. That's impossible!!! We are Neutral, un-biased observers and reporters. We are PROFESSIONALS who know how to remove our prejudice from our reporting.

I am from the Government. I am here to help.

Neal -- That guy did a great job articulating his point to the extent that he was allowed to speak. The one who thinks Lincoln is a state is the only who looked bad.

We can be glad she identified herself as the fraud she is. Susan Roesgen, don't forget it. Who was the anchor? Cara someone? Just as guilty.

Hey Jeff -- I have no opinion on why you are injecting race into this issue. Do you have anything resembling a coherent thought on the subject?

CopyLeft -- Of course you love the attention you get in here but your characterization of what happened in that video is just about the stupidest thing I have read around here, aside from everything LiberalHater/Club-a-Liberal (same guy) has ever posted.

Just to let everyone know, houston's ABC affiliate led the news (4/15) with the tea party that occured at Jones Plaza. Not much info, but they did lead with it. Thank you channel 13.
  • Tea Party. What not property damage and arrests
This was incredible. To watch the crowd grow after our protesters finished working and came out was something else. Know what is really interesting? We were not "Paid Protestors". We were working people taking time off for something we believe in. Oh and our protest did not result in property damage and arrests. Has anybody interviewed the business owners and Underground and found out how it impacted their business? Probably provided a good wedensday for them.
  • Where does this go next?
I am a strong fiscal conservative. I can not and will not support the Repubs. Maybe those like me should move to Texas and convince them to secede? Is there anyone out there who can start a true grassroots 3rd party based on fiscal conservatism? Neal?
  • Who Advertises on CNN?
The journalists miss the point. It is not just INCOME taxes that worry me. It's the HIDDEN TAXES (cap in trade, investment in the "FUTURE")that are going to make me a pauper, and my children slaves to the Government.

If we were spending this money on REAL projects (Nuclear power plants, better oil exploration and refining, truly needed infrastructure) I wouldn't complain as much.

I am telling the government like I would my son, Don't "Invest" your money on the 22"wheels and tires. Save your money to buy your next car cash instead of having to borrow the money.

I am going to write to the advertisers on CNN. If someone knows how to find the list, I would greatly appreciate it. I don't want to have to sit down and watch for that long. I guess I can reverse DVR it.
  • Selective editing omits exchange with a moron
Prior to the clip that Neal shows, Susan Roesgen interviews a genius with a poster of President Obama dressed up as Hitler . . . see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCA-3q6t57Q

I'll admit Roesgen went beyond reporting to injecting herself into the story, but nonetheless are you proud of this fella . . . who was obviously captain of the debate team given how articulate and fact-based he was with his assertion that Obama is a fascist?

    Here is a transcription:

CNN: "What is this supposed to mean? What do you mean by this?"

    Genius: "He's a fascist, the pirates . . ."

CNN: "Wait, why do you say he's a fascist, the president of the United States?"

    Genius: "He is a fascist"

CNN: "Do you realize how offensive that is?"

    Genius: "I think he's a fascist."

    CNN: "Why?"

    Genius: "Because he is."

CNN: "In what way can you say that?"

Genius: "Because the real pirates are in the white house, in the Senate, and in the Congress. We need one-term limits for all these elected politicians."

CNN: "Why be so harsh on the president of the United States with such an offensive message?"

Genius: "Because he is, he's a fascist."
  • Now you know...
...the frustrations the Ron Paul supporters felt when CNN/FOX propagandists(some call them reporters) would simply make nonsense up as they went during the 2008 presidential campaign.
  • Dim bulb CNN reporter
If there was any question as to why the Communist News Network is on life support - this should've answered it.
  • That "reporter" from CNN
I don't have to say much, she made a compleat fool of herself, and she is probably too stoopid to realize it!

Last night on FOX, 9PM easter, Sean Hannity was at the rally at the Georgia capitol. Someone had a big sign in the crowd, which read:
    CNN YOU SUCK
Wow! What a premonition that person had!
Right in downtown Atlanta, home of CNN no less! Priceless!
  • What does she say at the beginning?
It sounds like she says, "You're here with your two-year-old and you're already in debt." Maybe it had something to do with his sign which I couldn't read.

She should be fired. She didn't even bother with a pretense of being neutral. She thinks that Illinois getting $50b in stimulus should appease the guy. But that's why everyone was there yesterday, we don't want a friggin' stimulus! Leave us and our money, however much or little, alone!
  • Freedom rallies- your picture was documented
The liberals will try to dismiss and slander any protest which counters thier agenda. Homeland security has already classified anyone who protests taxes as a potential terrorist and right wing radical. Do you not think that those who would publish such a report and try to keep it under wraps, would not have agents "watching for potential threatening persons who are really radical". Unlike protests for illegal immigration or against the Iraq war, people yesterday left thier jobs to protest. The protest was not thier job which they were paid to attend. How do I know this, my step mother travels the country working with illegals, trains them how to organize, march, protest, and gain benefits. BTW, they either get paid to march or get assistance gaining "benefits". Who do you think pays her salary and all costs related to this? the AFL-CIO.
  • She was right
I went to protest a rally in missouri, there was much profanity, the KKK even showed up and I seen rifles and guns

If you took your kids to one of these things, thats child abuse!

Just a bunch of angry extreme rightests that are mad because Obama is really in there to fix things and FINALLY bring change to this hole of a nation.
  • Go figure...
If I paid over ten grand in income taxes last year, which I did, why would I give a rip about a stupid $400 credit?? Should I get excited about that like I was supposed to over the extra $11 a week I get in my paycheck, thanks to the Great Leader?

What a vile wretch, I love what Savage said about her last night. Not kosher for repeating here on this family website.
  • Susan is clueless
She honestly believes it is acceptable that we straddle the country with this immense debt since only the “rich” will have to pay for it? That is asinine and naïve.
  • THANK YOU!!!
Thank you, THANK YOU so much for putting this on the top of your Nuze today. I live in Chicago and I was there, I was by her before she began to talk and I regret not standing near her to say something worthwhile! Yes, she was being heckled a little bit by the crowd, but that is an even lower level of journalism than I expected, and not even CLOSE to the tone that the rally actually presented. All protests bring out the obnoxious people, but for the most part everyone was very positive, and all of the speakers were fabulous. Mostly it was just a gathering of like-minded individuals to realize that we are not alone. And it wasn't about removing taxes so much as protesting how the taxes are being spent, and the lack of control that the budget is having (Any American with half a brain knows that even a minimal gov't will cost some money, paid for by the citizens).

Really, the tone of the protest was leadership. Having this go beyond the protest to an actual campaign of getting people to listen. It was such a positive and uplifting experience only to be brought down by women like her. I was so angry when I saw this, knowing people would get their news and impression of the event like that. Makes me sick.
  • News Coverage
I reviewed MSNBC and CNN's coverage this morning of the tax protests that happened across the nation. Folks like Paul Begalia and Ed Schultz just did not get our message. They think some vast right wing conspiracy sneaked out of a closet for a few hours. They do not get that the tax payers are tired of the Republicans and the Democrats wasting our money. All too quickly the democratic news outlets want to take shots at FOX for its coverage of what they see as extremist while they ignore their own ratings. They did not get the message.

Call or write your Representatives today and tell them two things; stop spending money that is not in the Treasury, and support Fair Tax legislation.
  • Liberal sensationalists <or> non reporting

  • Unbelievable
Somebody should've rammed one of those signs down her throat.....$400 credit? WOW..whooppee..yeah...He gets a whole $400? WOW!!! Couple that with the extra $13 per paycheck, and this man is living the high life!!

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what $400 credit she was referring to. The reason I ask is that most likely the credit is phased out for anyone who probably makes $75K or more. My response to Susan would have been, "Unfortunately, Susan, I do not qualify for that whopping earth-shattering 400 buck credit you are championing, because your beloved government states that anyone making over $75K is too rich to qualify. Now, if you don't mind, Susan, can someone please get another reporter here who actually has an IQ higher than that of basket of hammers? Thanks for the question and have a nice day, Susan"

Think about the logic here: You should be OK that you are getting overcharged with tens of thousands of dollars in taxes, becuase afterall, you are getting a $400 tax credit!! That's like be willing to pay an extra $5,000 on a purchase of a new car so you can use that coupon that gives you free oil changes for the first three years!
  • Media whore
    nuff said.
  • Democrats and Republicans should both fear peril from the movement arising from these rallies. Be warned, Democrats, to not ignore us, and Republican, do not assume we are on your side either.
  • Susan Roesgen
Susan Roesgen started out her career in New Orleans, where she was local street newscaster. She was often called "Nipsy" due to several on air open blouse shots. She will do anything to get attention and move up in her career choice.
  • Neal, no offense, but Please stop calling those people the 'liberal media'.
These people are Statists through and through, they are Liars, and their first and foremost lie is that they are 'Liberal'.

They don't give a rat's A$$ about 'Liberty' – they only want POWER, and they don't care how they get it and hold onto it, they just want it.
  • CNN (Can't Notice the News)
Don't call her a reporter, because she's not.

Probably never was one and will ever be one either.
  • Morons
I love how these morons protesting about taxes were doing this instead of working hard at their job.
  • Nancy Pelosi
If you haven't seen her response to the Tea Parties, then you definitely need to. She said that its not a grass roots effort, it was an "astro turf" effort. And everyone knows that only the rich can afford astro turf. Fox News showed her comments this AM.
  • Reporting
"frauds created by Republican advocacy groups with the backing of deep-pocketed lobbyists and Fox News."

In other words, the truth. How DARE the media report that these events have been organized and staged by far-right advocacy groups when that's what actually happened!

"The principal organizers of the local events are actually the lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works."

A "grassroots" movement? More like "Astroturf."

Darn leftist media with their facts.... (snicker)
  • Tea Party
Let's us see how these tea parties change things. I think they will be forgotten about in a few weeks anyways. I happen to agree will most of what these tea parties represents: lower taxes, limited federal government, personal responsibility, and no Wall Street bailouts! But I think by Friday (or whenever Congress is back from Easter break) Washington will be back to their spending ways.
I sure hope Saxyby Chambliss or Johnny Isakson didn't show up to any of these rallies. Both of these Senators representing the State voted for the TARP bill back in October. Isakson is up for re-election in 2010. C'mon lets find someone to replace him. Herman Cain are you listening?
  • Its as if...

  • Where were the blacks?
I saw very, very, very few black faces in any of the crowds yesterday. Anyone got a good answer for that?
  • WHAT????
Hugo, I truly believe you are stuck on stupid! You keep making the same comment! This goes way beyond 3%.
Its people like you on both sides, limited, hearing, limited thinking and limited thought. Been here before, some guy by the name of Carter was the President, didn't work then aand it will not work now.

    IT JUST KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER!
  • CNN
This is why we hate CNN. Dumb reporters telling us how to feel instead of reporting facts and letting us make up our own minds on how to feel and think.
  • It's a shame
I was able to watch some of the coverage yesterday and purposely went to CNN, MSNBC, and read the coverage online from other media outlets. If I were an average American with not much knowledge of politics, I would have assumed that this movement was created by conservative rich people and Fox News. I am highly disappointed with the media we have today, and I hope people wake up to this reality of the unfair slant to the left. I honestly don't care if they disagree, but the least they could have done is presented it in a fair way. It truly is a shame. You know, the word "liberal" used to have a negative tone when meantioned. The media has made "conservative" to replace it and has put a positive spin on liberalism.
  • Old Everett
To paraphrase Everett Dirksen, 3% here and 3% there, and pretty soon you're talking about a real percentage. It's the death of a thousand "little" cuts. Let me tell you, the six figures for 2008 income and self-employment taxes in taxes that I sent to the government amounted to real money. And it is amazing to me that anyone, let alone a so-called news reporter, suggests that anyone getting $400 should has forfeited his right to protest and should just shut up. What that says is they truly believe votes are for sale, and the price is an incredibly cheap $400!
  • Thank God
Thank God that we have this woman on video doing this. I have no idea how she can be seen in public AT ALL after humiliating herself this way. I never would have believed that people could be brainwashed to this degree and then given a job as an interviewer. I am flabbergasted.
  • CNN and Tea Parties
Same CNN reporter said and I quote: "Hundreds of people across the country protested the governments use of their taxes...". Hundreds? There was 15 to 20K in Atlanta alone last night...you get five women on a street corner against the war in a Iraq and you get a flood of coverage...
  • Outrage!
Just remember, myrmidons-a 3% tax hike on 5% of the population equals TYRANNY!
