We are getting there, folks. This country is heading rapidly down a path of government imposed mediocrity. And that's the way the people of Europe want it to be.

Almost half of the people in France believe that it is acceptable for workers who are facing layoffs to lock up their evil, greedy bosses. What's more, 56% of blue-collar workers approve of boss-nappings.

This is the type of attitude that is fostered and even encouraged by the constant hammering on the high-achievers in our society. Never have I seen wealth envy so intense, and never have I seen it so eagerly promoted by demagogues in power.

I would love to see this same poll taken in this country. I think I'll ask on the show today just what actions my listeners believe they can legitimately take against their employer if they are laid off.

What others are saying

  • Euro-trash
The prevailing attitude of the Euro-trash is one where they aren't looking to better themselves, like moving up the wealth totem pole, they see those at the top being pulled down to their level so everyone is at the same socio-economic level.

The Pretender-in-Charge also believes this way, that's why he is doing everything he can to tank the American economy.
  • A Better Life
Every parent wants to be able to give his or her child a better life.

The difference between a liberal and a conservative is a liberal only wants his child to have the better life. If someone else's child has a better life, the liberal wants to take it away or punish the conservative's child back down to the lowest common denominator.

    How's that for fairness?
  • France part deux
We have two things in this country that aid the double time to mediocrity. One is the rather lousy education system all the way up to colleges and universities which allow teachers to give any version of learning they want and punish students who dare question them. Two is the media in this country which seems to feel it's role is to punish opposing points of view and cater to the DNC. That, along with a poorly educated number of willing consumers, makes it like shooting fish in a barrel. The mentality of a scary number of people is "we need the government to make everything fair". Which is not how I was raised. My parents were lifelong Democrats who still believed that everyone is responsible for their own well being. The Government is there to protect our borders and maintain the infrastructure, not dole out payraises and healthcare benefits. And employers' only obligations are to provide a safe working environment and opportunities to people who apply themselves( ya gotta earn it!). Healthcare is a perk. Vacation time and sick days are benefits. Unions should be helping management run a lean, profitable company, if not, they should be the first to go. At what point do we stop allowing this country to decline and become what we all used to laugh at? That'd be France. It's not so funny when the morons are are on our side of the Atlantic. And I do hope I offend someone with this, maybe that'll be their wake up call!
  • Politicians are "successfull" let's demonize them...
Why are only business men/women who are successful demonized. Aren't the politicians in Washington "successful" and very wealthy. They are as much or more the same as those they demonize. Hey, turn about is fair play right? :)
  • Something about the European
If you have ever traveled in Europe you will know that the average European you meet on the street seems to know more about what is going on in America than you do. What's that about? Probably wealth envy.
  • KC
Ditto that! And like I keep saying, it's not about wanting Obama to fail, it's about wanting America to succeed. We need to do some firing of our own in Washington.

    2010
  • The Employer owns the job...not the employee
I think most workers forget that the job or position they hold is not "theirs"...it's their employer's. They just happen to occupy the position for the time being. They represent the entitlement mentality to the nth degree.
Remember, it's supposed to be like this...
Government gets its power from the people...not the other way around. Too bad this isn't taught in our government schools...
  • kidnap the boss?
So where is the poll to find out how many bosses would like to lock up their employees who don't pull their weight and do their jobs properly?
  • Layoff Repercussions
Every job I've had in my adult life has been with companies with policies of "termination at will" Not a lot you can do about that if you want the job.
  • The Euros vs the U. S.
I have consistently taken the position that the Euros would go over the cliff first and that we might see the light in time and make a sharp turn before we follow them. About 2 years ago I gave the Euros about 5 to 8 years before the end. I haven’t seen anything to persuade me otherwise so now their down to about 3 to 6. There is one thing that I am not sure about now however. Since O and his minions now have the socialist pedal to the metal it might possibly be us that will take the dive first!
  • Another perspective
Wealth envy is very human and natural. Any person saying the have not felt it are either lying or a saint of some sort. But the feeling can provoke us into becoming more productive. However, if crippling taxation, government regulations, unions, or personal immoral work habits prevent people from achieving, wealth envy can turn toxic.
Europe needs hope. It needs the Libertarian philosophy.
  • Unemployed French Hostage Takers
I can solve a French hostage situation in ten minutes.

Just bomb the place with deodorant and everyone inside will scatter like roaches.
  • Democrats forget too quickly....
....that we fought a war of liberation NOT to be like the Europeans. And now we get Obama the america-hater...going around on the "I hate America" world tour....telling everyone how bad and evil we are and how much we need to be more like them.....pass me a barf bag, please. He's a traitorous piece of scum.

America is and always has been great because of the "American difference". Dimocrats just want to drag us down into world socialism, pure and simple.
  • BE GLAD WE AREN'T EUROPE .. YET
    Employee's rights?
You have the right to do the job. If you don't do the job,or unable to do the job, you have the right to quit before getting fired.
... and then we have OUR employees in DC ... !
  • You have the right to quit, and they have the right to fire you - that's it.
  • response
It may be counter intuitive, but the best response is to thank your employer for the time you worked together. Then hustle to get another job.

That's my plan if I get downsized.
  • perceptions
I'm certainly glad we're not Europe. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between straight and gay men (especially with the English and French)....not that I have anything against gay people. I just consider the anus to be an exit-only door.
  • Actions against one's employer
I think the only legal actions you should be able to take against your employer if you get laid off are the exact same actions your employer can take against you if you quit.
