AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS --- AGAIN

Here we go again. At least George W. Bush and Barack Obama agree on this one.

Our economic downturn over the past year has certainly shown one thing. If you deny jobs to the illegals (the hell with this "undocumented" politically correct crap) they will head back from whence they came. As jobs have disappeared illegals have been heading back home. Now to the rational mind this would indicate that if we were to step up our enforcement at the job sites .. denying employment to people who are in this country illegally .. the problem would, for the most part, be self correcting.

Instead we have race pimps like Al Sharpton screaming "racial profiling" in Arizona and protests being staged against a Texas mayor who is demanding that all new employees hired in his city be screened for their immigration status. Oh ... and this stimulus bill? You do remember, don't you, that the Democrats refused to require that the federal e-verify program be used on projects paid for with stimulus money. That's the rule-of-law Democrats for you.

The New York Times is now reporting that President Obama is going to keep his campaign pledge - a pledge that got him the Hispanic vote -- to move forward on legal status for approximately 12 million criminal illegal aliens in this country. Yeah ... criminal. Ignore those absurd "we are not crooks" signs these illegals like to wave around. They violated the law when they came here. They violate the law when they stay here. They violate the law when they obtain jobs here. What do you need to define a criminal if breaking the law on multiple fronts isn't enough?

Think about this. (If you're a liberal, we'll use the word "imagine" instead of think.) We have millions of Americans out of work. The job market isn't exactly popping right now. And here comes the president with his wonderful idea of granting legal status to 12 million illegal, job-sucking aliens. Makes perfect sense, right?

What others are saying

  • cares
i think the illegals are coming here in our country not to vote in the election

common sense!!!!!!!!!! they were here coz they work for money note to vote!!!

use your head, not just judging some people

if im not mistaken those illegals are hard workers than to us legalize here.......

    thank you !!!!!!!!!!
  • Alan
There is nothing "moral" about amnesty! They are also a drain on our welfare and health system. Out they go, complete the fence. It's really not a left versus right thing or shouldn't be. EXCEPT that lefties see them as future voters. THAT is the ONLY reason they are pushing for this.
  • Plan for Mexico
Mexico has been around for quite some time, why in the hell should anyone care how "bad" they have it. Why don't they ban together and clean up their country? Maybe....wait...I must have forgot, they are more corrupt than Madoff; every one can be bought at a price.

I've seen these "walkouts" and "protests" in California. Why don't we call out the National Guard and march them straight out of the country? Hell, you've got them all right there and they are all illegal! Might as well take advantage and get rid of a big group of them all at once.
  • Hopefully
The answer to illegal immigration is absolutely amnesty (I'll use this term, because you guys seem to like it). Not only is this the most economically and morally sound option, but it's also the option giving us the least government involvement. There's no reason for any "small government" conservative to oppose it except for xenophobia. Now, a labor-oriented left leaning politician has some reason to oppose it (but he's still wrong). Even Reagan supported amnesty.

Right now, businesses like hiring illegal immigrants. This is because they can abuse them, not follow labor law standards (including minimum wage), prevent anything approaching unionization, and cheat them. And the workers have no legal recourse, because they are in danger of deportation if they complain. This makes them better employees than citizens and legal immigrants, but in a perverse, artificial way.

If we get them legal status, they will be competing on a level playing field with citizens, and they will pay all their taxes. This will limit immigration in a free market way, because there won't be an artificially high job market here for them. The only reason an (otherwise illegal) immigrant would be preferable to a citizen would be if they were a legitimately better worker. And guess what, if they are willing to work that hard to support their own success and their family, there is absolutely no reason to say they shouldn't be in this country. Someone like that is more American than many who are born here.

And, if we make it easier for workers to get into this country legally, we can focus our border policing efforts more on actual criminals.

So, yes, what we need is a strong guest worker program along with getting the people already here legal status.

For those who complain that they haven't respected our immigration law, do you expect someone to respect unfair, unenforceable, arbitrary, and ridiculously complex laws that benefit no one at the extreme expense of their families? The answer is to change those laws, not hurt us all trying to enforce them.

I just can't see how you would want to spend tons of government money futilely increasing the border patrol and building a wall that infringes on American property rights and stands as a horrid symbol against liberty.
  • @ God's Motive
Hey God - Two comments and two personal attacks ... how very Christian of you! (And not one solution offered - you must be a republican - just say no to everything President Obama tries to accomplish and offer nothing new to the conversation)

The comparison and point being made was the severity of the crime. Illegally crossing a border is a non-violent crime in-and-of-itself. Stop portraying all illegals as violent criminals.
  • It didn't start in 2000...
BTW, the mass exodus a la Norte didn't start with the Bush Adminstration...it goes back a ways. And I have met some terrific folks who came here in the 70's and early 80's but were grandfathered in by the '87 Amnesty( Reagan). And I have met some more since then. The time to address it was,oh, 20 years ago or so. Not when we have so many in country that we almost can't. It is hard to get Americans to work in my industry, and nobody...that's no body, works for minmum wage in my industry except high school kids at Pikes. Even they have bills to pay, soon as they find out BK or McD's pays a quarter more an hour, they're gone. Again, trying to do things the right way is only marginally better for a business or an individual than making a run at the border and taking your chances en las Estados Unidos. Maybe it helps to know how frustrating it is for everyone involved. Then again, maybe it doesn't matter.
  • Alan's comments
Yes speeding is illegal and if you get caught the penalty is a fine. Entering the country without a visa is illegal and if you get caught you get deported. Consequences for both. You don't get off your speeding ticket simply because the highway patrol didn't catch everyone speeding. Your comparison makes no sense. Neal is right about government schools...people today are really dumb.
  • Wrong on more people=more money in system
Too many cities are reporting that there is a large percentage of illegal aliens on welfare. There aren't enough jobs to go around. Too many won't learn english so they are limited as to what they can do. Send them back, I would rather work with Mexico on ways for THEM to improve their own economy. Send the packing.
  • Sensable Solution
    Where I agree:
    1) Al Sharpton is the kind of person that needs the spotlight shined on him and looks for any chance to get it. Anyone that listens to him is simply looking for someone else to solve their problems.

    2) I agree with the checking immigration status prior to employment. I see that as following our laws.

    Where I disagree:
    1) Illegal is illegal is illegal .. so is speeding, parking ILLEGALLY, and a million other NON_VIOLENT crimes. Yes, they broke the law entering this country. And you broke the law when you sped. Don't blame them for seeking a better life. Blame the gov't for not protecting our borders and doing its job.
2)A rational person will realize these people are here and this problem will not be solved by attempting to round up 12 million people. Yes, illegals are a drain on our system. But what if they were paying taxes, think (or imagine) expanding our tax base by another 12 million people.

simple math dictates more people equals more money in the system = less of a drain on the system!!
  • Red Leader said
    "if you voted Mccain...
...then really there is no logical way for you to disagree with Obama and his amnesty plan"

Well that's a pretty weak argument. That would presume that the only reason one voted for McCain was because of his stance on illegal immigration. How about if I disagree with both of them on this topics but picked McCain over Obama because McCain isn't a socialist? Would that make my vote legitimate in your eyes? I can most certainly complain about a stupid Obama policy even if the fellow I voted for shared it. Had McCain won, I would be opposed to amnesty for illegals as well. Geez people...use your brains for something other than holding up your hairdo.
  • I Love You, Eve!1
You and I are on the same page and I think that is a good thing.
I have no problem with imigrants who are here legally. I DO have a problem with illegals...Illegal is illegal is illegal. I agree that immigrants are hard working. But they need to come here the RIGHT way.

Thank you for your comment Claudia!!

Stepcousin...I like the Reality show comment too....that would be the only Reality show I would actually watch!1! LOL
  • Cash Back
Where do I apply to get the $2000 that I spent on getting all the relevant paperwork, and traveling to all the interviews. If they PAY and PASS ALL interviews and tests then let them stay.
  • Fair
I agree with Laughing. Any felon with a family should not be incarcerated because it tears apart the family.
    AND,
If Hitler, Braun, and Goering would have forced companies getting TARP to use E-verify jobs would be available for Americans.
Also, with less ILLEGALS the cost of social services to ILLEGALS would be cut.
I read somewhere that California alone spends 11Billion on welfare services to illegals. Hmmm...an extra 11Bilion + a year would certainly help.

With the 4 year Reich saying it's OK to commit a felon with NO consequenses, I should be able to steal a car and since I have a family all will be excused!?
  • Red
You are probably right. But that is so sad. Even if we do find a successful true conservative, we will not be allowed to undo the 14 million that will then be "grandfathered" in.

Oh and for those that don't see the harm, LA Times had a report a few months ago. In it they said out of the millions in their county only 2% of them actually worked in the agriculture business as so many say we need them for. Of the rest, 40% (FORTY) were on welfare.

Do we really want these people to stay?

Chuck, I would like to shake your wife's hand!!!
  • Why limit amnesty?
An immigrant is someone who, following the process of law, came to this country in order to make a contribution to the country (as opposed to simply making money to send back to where they came from) and to become part of this country. The folks crossing the borders illegally just to get a job are not immigrants.

Why is amnesty only being considered for criminal border crossers? If these people deserve a break, then why not issue a blanket pardon for *all* criminals who haven't yet been caught? Why not give everyone who committed a crime a chance to start fresh? Let's see Obama make an announcement that, as of the date of the announcement, all crimes that have not yet had prosecution commence (that is, where the perp hasn't yet been caught) are hereby pardoned, and that all those who committed now-pardoned crimes are being given a new chance? If illegal border crossers deserve amnesty, why not citizens and taxpayers who have committed crimes but haven't been caught yet? Gee- since almost all illegals are Hispanic, wouldn't providing amnesty for illegal border crossers be racist (as per the common but improper definition of racism)?
  • deport all illegals now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    4/9/2009

Get these scumbags out of this country now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Illegals
as a LEGAL immigrant in this country, it really pisses me off to read things like this. I also had to jump through loops and hoops to come LEGALLY to this country, I work and pay my taxes and do not receive any kind of government assistance (We take care of ourselves thankyouverymuch)

This people ARE ILLEGAL, when is that going to be taken into consideration?? if you go ILLEGALLY to another country, they would not employ you or give you all this things for free... just ask the Central Americans who enter ILLEGALLY to Mexico
  • McCamnesty
Yes, McCain was all for amnesty but at least he begrudgingly conceded to building a border fence. Somehow, I doubt Barry will propose the same. Keep in mind that when you are speaking of 12 million workers, you are leaving out all the women and children so the number is probably closer to 30. I don't think even Geraldo disputes that.

    Enjoy people!
  • AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS
If amnesty for these felons is forced, then we need to also extend amnesty to all the felons in the US.
    Only fair.
  • reality show
I'm all good with illegals, as long as they're women who are at least 7's on a scale between 1 and 10.

I have an idea for a new reality show. Basically, there would be hidden cameras at the border. Viewers would call in a ranking from 1-10 on each female invader. Women ranked 1-6 get rounded up and catapaulted back across the border. 10's get instant amnesty, but 7's, 8's, and 9's would have to mud-wrestle in an elimination match. The winner gets amnesty.
  • I would not oppose this so much if...
There is a flip-side to this proposal that should be part of this (as far as I know, it is not currently) that would make it much easier to swallow for most of Obama's opposition.

The idea should be this: Fine, we will provide the opportunity for these 12 million or so illegals to go through the appropriate channel to obtain their amnesty and citizen ship. HOWEVER, those illegals that choose not to take advantage of this amnesty offering within a given time frame will be SOUGHT OUT, arrested, and deported immediately following confirmation of illegal status.

We've provided a golden opportunity, take it or leave.

Further, we will tighten border security and job screening in order to mitigate this problem in the future.

    I wouldn't have a problem with that.
  • no problem
Chuck, these people are gonna have to jump through hoops, fill out forms, wait for years, pay a bunch of money before they become citizens just as your wife did. Neal needs to read the definition of a libertarian again...
And with any candidate - whether it's McCain or anyone else - if you're a thinking human being, you're not gonna agree on everything. Did everyone who voted for Bush second time around agree with out of control government spending? The reality of it is, that even in this economy, we STILL have jobs Americans don't want to do - they'd rather wait for that government check and watch their soaps all day long. At least Illegal immigrants are hard workers, who simply want a better life. I say - send all the welfare people to Mexico, and legalize all of the Illegals.
  • Mccain voters split the vote
Anyone who put their vote towards Mccain voted for someone who had no real chance of becoming president. For REAL conservatives who wanted a traditional conservative in the white house Mccain was obviously not a serious choice. Just because people will not look up what other conservatives are available (Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin) and confine themselves to what TV dictates and convices them does not mean that people should have abandoned conservative principle by voting Mccain. Mccain was simply taking Obama's and Bush's ideas and tinkering with them. When he should have been throwing them out completely. Why didn't he outright support abolishing the income tax...a communist idea? In reality since Mccain was not a conservative choice and Paul was, then it is the Mccain voters who decided to split the vote by allowing tv to convince them that Mccain(a non-conservative) was their only choice. Just the plain ugly truth. People who voted Mccain, for the most part just voted Obama lite. Let's stop allowing tv to convince us who is going to win an election, lets vote on who we WANT to win, not who tv SAYS MIGHT win.
  • I-9
As someone who has worked in Human Resources for YEARS, I do not understand why there is all this fuss over enforcing immigration laws with regard to employing illegal aliens. For every new employee, we are REQUIRED BY LAW to obtain proof of identity as well as proof of ability to LEGALLY work in the US. If we can't verify that, we cannot employ the individual. We are REQUIRED to document this information and to provide this information to the government. Then it is up to the government what they are going to do about it. So anyone who says it is somehow discriminatory or racist to complete the form I-9 for new employees, needs to refresh their memory about the law. For the past 30 years I have been wondering which part of ILLEGAL alien these people don't understand!
  • Joyce
I know what you mean. But amnesty is coming either way. Its pretty much a guaranty at this point and no stopping it. Bush did his part for years as govenor in not securing the TX border. He and his types have wanted amnesty for quite some time. The current Republicans/Democrat(is there really a difference?) know they can't count on Americans generally to increase the size and scope of govt, and the degree of government dependency, so what do they do? Let in about 12 million people who are more likely to go along with increasing govt size and having a larger welfare state, overlook American citizens, and get the voters who will grant them a larger govt in the long run. And the very minute amnesty becomes law, is the minute we kiss America and its rule of law goodbye. My point earlier was that it could have been prevented easily with Paul. Now there is no preventing it.The neo-cons who have infilitrated the republican party and drove the traditional conservatives back want amnesty also(Bush,Mccain, patriot act types). Who knows, remember when Jefferson said something to the effect of "the tree of liberty from time to time must be watered with the blood of tyrants and rebels" ? What if this is one of those times? One has to wonder if its due? At best maybe in the midterm we can get enough REAL conservatives in office to reverse the amnesty be that WILL be made law in the upcoming months.
  • Anyone who voted for Ron Paul put their vote towards someone who had no chance of becoming president and thus only helped BO become president. Therefore they can't complain about anything since helped him get elected.

Listen, get off it. Its America, people can complain about whatever they want, no matter who they voted for or if they voted at all.

And anyone who voted for McCain despite his 'moderate' side would have fought him just the same on these issues as well.
  • More workers HELPS the economy.
The economic downturn started after the government started cracking down on both legal and illegal immigration. (Ask Microsoft why they opened an office in Canada... because the US Government reduced the amount of professional visas.)

Why are employers asked to be the immigration police? Any regulation on employment is an added burden (tax) on employers. We need to UNBURDEN employers right now. Spur the economy and make it as easy as possible to hire good workers to create wealth. More workers makes for a healthier economy. The feds didn't enforce the border properly (which they should fix), but now we've got millions of people here who are part of our community, part of our workforce, part of our customer and tenant base, and part of many US citizen families. To help the economy, the government needs to provide stability. The way to do that is to give some form of legal status to our customers/workers/tenants/wives. This "Economic Stability Program" would cost government nothing. It would be just words on paper, and it would have an immediate and beneficial effect on our economy.
  • Response to Red Leader
As a McCain voter, I can say that I look at the totality of programs and what each person wanted to do as President. There were several things I did not like about McCain, but there is almost nothing I like about Obama's policies.

I voted for Bush the second time around because of his stand on taking it to the terrorists. I did not care for several of his programs, but I had to weigh those disagreements and they were less important than keeping us safe from terrorists.
  • Rewarding the wrong people?
What does this say to those who go through the process legally? Like my wife, who had to jump through all kinds of hoops and provide an enormous amount of information, fill out forms, answer questions...she got her citizenship. The process that needs to change is the way the people who try to do it the right way are treated and how long it takes to handle their cases. It's an insult to the ones who do that to try and make a sweeping change that basically says, "Okay, so you broke the law, no problem". It's not their fault that millions decided to skip the legal process and take the shortcut. Am I a racist for saying what I think? Ask my wife. We speak Spanish all the time, eat foods from her native country, dance salsa, let our kids visit their relatives in their home country. Doesn't sound racist to me. She's more vocal than I am, does that make her racist? Oh, she must not be a true Latina, she's too Americanized, she thinks she's special, better than her own people...that's what the losers she has to listen to say. That's the treatment we can expect from the 'more tolerant' and 'more diverse' Left. Oh, the Republicans aren't sitting on their hands, George Bush was criticized for not doing more for or against illegal immigrants, depending on who you talk to. The fact is, he put off doing anything because a lot of good Republican businessmen had illegals on the payroll. Doing nothing was actually doing something...allowing folks to continue living here who had no legal right to be here. Not bad people, willing to work, all that. Just not legal. Drop the 'undocumented' label. They are less of a problem than the race baiters and the well intentioned but plain wrong bleeding hearts. Before you start with the labelling and the insults, check the facts. But then, that's what separates the Left from the rest of us, no regard for the truth or the law. Welcome to America...a nation of laws...sometimes.
  • Red
Red I hear ya, but that didn't happen, Paul is not in office and we cannot let these ILLEGAL ALIENS become citizens or get amnesty. Now can we just deal with THIS issue?
  • Stupid
This is the worst thing Obama could do. There are a LOT of things bad he is doing but this really ticks me off. Anyone who votes for this man again is an IDIOT!!!! Sorry. But this sucks.
  • if you voted Mccain...
...then really there is no logical way for you to disagree with Obama and his amnesty plan, because Mccain had the same exact plan.In fact Mccain spearheaded the effort to do away with the rule of law and reward criminal behavior, if you remember correctly with his amnesty plan. If you voted for Mccain then you voted in FAVOR of amnesty, there's no 2 ways about it. So again, ANY Mccain voter who opposes Obama on his horrid reward illegal aliens with amnesty idea would simply be swimming in irony. Neal Im looking at you also bud. Mccain voters really should not complain on this one since they obviously were in favor of amnesty(and bailouts) by voting Mccain. They could have easily voted Ron Paul who was against both.
