A man gives up everything in life, including half a million dollars to build a solar-powered car and drive it around the country. He has been touring the country in his solar-powered car, followed by a van of international volunteers. They pull into an American city and within one hour, over $10,000 worth of passports, laptops, credit cards, and cash was stolen from his escort van.

Now my question is: In which American city were they robbed?

Think about it folks. A city that is crawling with parasites. Any guesses? Ok, here is your answer.

What others are saying

  • My first guess was Detroit, second Philadephia. Both known for riots etc...
But New Orleans comes as no ewal suprise.
  • Ignorance
The ignorance and racism I see here is breathtaking. Yes, I said racism, sorry if it offends you, but it's the truth.

According to this post and these comments, the people in New Orleans are "parasites", as well as being lazy, dishonest, and manipulative. Additionally, you believe that New Orleans should have been destroyed. And lets be honest, the people who you cast these stupid insults at are poor and black.

Obviously, the poverty and problems of New Orleans are the fault of the evil people there. Destruction, neglect, and cyclical poverty couldn't have anything to do with it.

If you idiots would actually take the time to understand the reality of the situation, more could be done to remedy it. These people are not evil parasites beyond help.

The city of New Orleans suffered a hurricane with an utter lack of relief, even to a large extent to this day.

For years, it has suffered under a horrible conservative Southern state government. Not only was it corrupt beyond belief, but also incredibly racist. The Republican nominee for governor in 1990 was quite truly the head of the Ku Klux Klan. Yep. And he did quite well, winning the majority of the white vote.

And New Orleans still manages to be a great and valuable city.

Also, anyone posting here is getting far more from the government than the poor in New Orleans get from welfare.
  • NOLA "parasites" II
The problem with postings is that it is hard to determine in what style it is being written. Sarcastic, joking, "gocha" or simply with out no ulterior motives. Chocolate comes in dark, milk or even white! I guess someone would call me "sexist" by saying white/dark chocolate with nuts, but that may be "OH-fensive" to the rationally challenged. Lighten up dudes & dudettes!
  • Could Have Happened Anywhere
    This could have happened anywhere.

The owners of the items obviously didn't care enough about the security of their goods to take the time to put them out of sight or someplace more secure. I guess they learned their lesson now.
  • what kind of mentality
I simply don't understand the kind of mentality it takes to do this to a person. To me, an ex-construction worker, it's like stealing a person's tools, thereby depriving him of a living. I don't get how you can justify this sort of thing in your mind. Unless you just plain don't have one...animals.

On the other hand, if he was driving around with a van full of groupies, why was it necessary to leave this van full of valubles unguarded in a city notorious for their high crime rate? That just doesn't seem very bright.

Unless it was full of liberals, full of love and understanding for their fellow, ahem, man. That's the only kind of people I can think of who would be stupid enough to leave all that stuff without a guard...who has a gun.
  • Washington, D.C.?
My first guess would be Washington, D.C. because it's crawling with parasites too.
  • Um, Rockhound
I lived in Atlanta in the '80's and '90's when it was referred to as "Chocolate City." If Nagin called NO that, he's borrowing it.

And note I never said "Racist." And none of this changes the fact that the original poster is a bigot.
  • chocolate city?nope more like caramel
the influx of mexicans, legal and illegal...oops, I mean UNDOCUMENTED MIGRANT WORKERS FROM SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL AMERICAN FREE DEMOCRACYS, have tipped the balance of color in Nawlin's from dark chocolate to a shade of caramel. Not racism ,just a fact. And Ray Nagin is a f#*kin' idiot studying to be a moron, again not racism just a fact.(N.O. is my home town so I have every right to bitch about what Nagin and other bottomfeeding scumsuckers have done to a great city and people long before Katrina)
  • New Orleans LA
    Got it. First guess.
A company I worked for tried for many years to have an office in New Orleans. They eventually gave up after finding that they just could not find anyone willing to show up at work every day.

Another company offered a sales contest where the winner would get a trip to New Orleans. I asked my sales manager, "Did I do something wrong?"
  • Crime in NOLA
It figures. It had to be New Orleans. This fantastic city has been turned into a real cesspool because of crime and the lack of political will to do anything about it. Unfortunately.
  • couple of thoughts...
Clark: "The culture of crime and entitlement is so entrenched that it's going to take generations to eradicate."
If the government and people like Ray Nagin weren't trying so hard to re-establish the status quo, NO would better itself much, much faster. I wish you the best of luck, Clark.
I also loved this: "[she] lost...nearly $2,000 in cash. She had planned to spend it in New Orleans, da Luz said." Well, NO's local economy thanks you for the contribution! Just not the way she had planned on making it, I'm sure.
  • That sun powered car
Well i guess New Orleans do i win a trip there......if do i best carry spray
  • I guessed right!!
The parasite quote gave it away!
  • scum
I took a wrong turn in New Orleans while driving a moving truck with my car in tow. About 20 of those cockroaches attacked the truck, and some of them jumped on the trailer. After running a couple red lights, me and my Lab/Chow got out of the cab to scare away the leeches that were attached to the trailer. They almost sh!t their pants when they saw my dog. I had to agree to restrain her before they would get off of my car....should of let her maul the bastards (no pun intended).
  • Chicago
My guess was Chicago, but I should have known I was wrong. All of those crooks have moved to DC.
  • Took me about a second
Granted I was torn between two, but within a second of reading that I knew it had to be either New Orleans or Los Angeles.
  • Dang, missed it
I was going for Chicago, but you are right, the "parasites" should have told me!
  • No monopoly on parasites
We in NO have no monopoly on parasites - mentioned DC & Chicago have more (in number if not pct), Dallas & LA are well-stocked with parasites. In fact, though NO is bad, I suspect there are plenty in dozens of cities across America. With millions added every month.
  • Thank you very, very much
I am so very, very happy that my comments offended Alabamastan. I am thrilled, for I too felt offended, when Mayor Nagan referred to New Orleans as a “Chocolate City.” Nagan made these remarks a full week after America sat stunned, watching these poor helpless people sitting on their rooftops suffering. Many people donated time, some donated money, but I’m sure all donated their prayers and hopes for the welfare of the citizens of New Orleans. And now, because I quote Nagan, and use the exact same phrase he used, “Chocolate City”, Alabamastan feels justified in calling me a bigot. Well, Alabamastan, screw you. I think you showed the world today that not only are you a bigot, but a complete idiot as well. The next time you try to comment on a story, and feel compelled to insult somebody, better make sure you know what you are talking about to begin with. Moron.

P.S. You can keep Atlanta too. Hell, I’ll even throw in Houston if you go away now.
  • Dang!
My guess was Detroit. Ah, well, can't win 'em all.
  • Reading the story about the solar car...
    I liked this part:
"this technology is clean and sustainable. We could be using it, but we lack the political will, " da Luz said.
    And then...
"He has been stranded in places for days when the sun didn't shine."
Uh, sorry boss, I can't come to work today, the sun isn't shining enough. Maybe I can come in to work tomorrow, or the next day.
    Political will my hairy butt..

"grasped the car's front and rear edges and split open the body like a giant boiled crab. Da Luz slid into the form-fitting seat. It's unlikely the car could accommodate anyone less svelte."

Good luck trying to fit you, the wife and two kids and a load of groceries in there! We could be using it, but we lack the political will.
  • ding ding ding
    I got it right!
  • Alabamastan, get your facts straight
Remember that toolbag mayor of N.O. who called his city the chocolate city after Katrina? That was what Cimarron was referencing.
But this could equally as likely happen in Atlanta too.
  • Um, Alabamastan...
It was New Orleans Mayor Nagin that dubbed New Orleans "Chocolate City" so the next time you want to throw around the "racism" card I suggest you do a little research on the term.

That said, this is a shame because New Orleans is a beautiful city. It isn't a crap hole like Detroit.
  • Partisans
Where were all these people crying about Obama's spending when Bush was spending billions on NOLA? That was the dumbest investment ever.
  • My first guess was Detroit
But I should have realized that there is nobody left in Detroit to do the robbing.
  • NOLA - the city that care forgot
I grew up near New Orleans. It used to be described (by itself) as the "city that care forgot"

I never knew what it meant then, but I know what it means now.

    How sad!
  • $10,000 worth stolen from his escort van
Kind of like what the government now is doing to all of us.
  • So many choices
My first guess was Detroit, but parasites and NOLA go together like cheese and crackers so I should have known better.
  • NOLA "parasites"
Got it! Could not narrow down the cities plagued by NOLA parasites, so it had to be the home nest!
$10G in one hour was way too small for it to be D.C. or any other city.
  • The interesting thing
is that this was the best publicity thjey got. I never heard of this design until they got robbed.
  • Blast it, I was wrong
Seeing the word "parasite" I immediately jumped to the conclusion Washington DC. But I think a lot of people will forgive my lapse in judgement for not thinking of New Orleans.
  • not NY?
I went with New York, seeing that Neal is not overly fond of Europeans. Frankly, it could have been any big city, they probably guarded their stuff better elsewhere.
  • Making it harder for the rest of us IN NOLA
I just finally got a chance to move back after the storm to do some good rebuilding and stuff like this happens?? Man, it's hard enough to try to do something right by this city without ridiculous crap like this happening on a national stage. The culture of crime and entitlement is so entrenched that it's going to take generations to eradicate. Reminds me of the family who trashed the gift home back up in Maryland after the storm. Never grateful and always looking to take more from others.
  • Could have Sworn...
I had guessed Chicago, it being the home of the "green" president...
  • DC
I figured it was DC. Aren't they robbing everyone in the country?
  • I have had the dubious opportunity to work alongside a number of refugees from this city. The stereotypes are true. Lazy to the point of lethargy..pathologically dishonest...and masters of manipulating the system (i.e. our Federal Government) to get what they felt was owed them. I have no compassion for this class of people.
  • Cimmarron
Hey, you bigot, Atlanta is Chocolate City. If you plan to insult an entire race, get your insults straight.
  • NOLA
    Cool I was right!
  • Crawling with Parasites
    Trick question!

I "assumed" that when you talk about a city crawling with parasites where things are stolen from a producer you had to mean Washington DC.
  • Ok, I'll admit...
My first thought was Houston, TX...because I thought there were still NOLA parasites there. NOLA was my second guess.
  • parasites
You gave the answer away when you used the term parasites. Anyone who listens to you on a regular basis knows that N.O. is where you refer to when calling a city parasitic. You couldn't be more spot on with this definition.
  • Sollar man robbed
The N.O. was my first guess. There are more parisites there per capita than any city in the U.S.
  • It couldn't have been NYC
    both vehicles would've been gone
  • Car robbery
The waters should have never receeded.
  • NOLA
What a watse of humanity. The world would have been better if Katrina would have returned NOLA to a fishing hole.
  • It was my not my first guess
    My first guess was Detriot.
  • Crawling with parasites
    I nailed it!
  • Either Detroit or NOLA
Okay, now I'll go read the answer...
  • In can think of a few places.
Crawling with parasites: Washington DC, Wall Street (not a city, I know), Detroit, New Orleans. Had to be one of those.
  • City crawling with parasites
Darn: I would have sworn the answer was "Washington D.C."
  • I was certain it was Detroit, but alas, I was incorrect. If it had been Detroit, it wouldn't have taken a whole hour for them to be robbed.
  • Stolen Solar Vehicle
    I was right!

I promise I did not cheat.
  • well...
What did you expect from the "chocolate city?"
  • NOLA
    What a cesspool.
  • Mystery City
Ha ha! Got it on the first try!
