The Obama's have decided that now is not the time to take $100,000 of taxpayer dollars to re-do the White House. This allotment is offered to every incoming president to renovate, but the Obama's have decided that they are going to pay for any changes out of their own pockets. Give them credit for this one. PrezBO hasn't even redecorated the Oval Office used by the hated George Bush.

Don't Jump to Conclusions
Just because he made a big deal of turning down the allotment for redecorating, that does not mean in any way that he will pay for the job out of his own pocket.
Obama didn't pay for his campaign, or his inauguration, or that street party in Chicago, with any of his own funds. Why would he start now?
Heck, he barely used any of his own money to buy that million dollar mansion in Chicago.

This is an obvious political stunt. We all know this. This is like my wife maxing out all of our credit cards and then telling me she is going to pass on desert this evening because we really cannot afford it right now.

Taxpayers money
@Ro - believe it or not, the First Family pays for their meals. State Dinners are another case, but personal meals are on their ticket. There is also an entertainment budget to be used for meals like this one. This was a meeting with members of Congress and I think the menu was appropriate.

Calculated TOTUS political stunt
The Organizer has been busy emptying to treasury of trillions of our tax dollars, so much so that any spending bills passed will now require printing truckloads of even more money, to say nothing of the cost of this insanity to future generations of Americans who aren't even close to being born yet.
The paltry $100,000 the Obama's are "saving" us hapless taxpayers disappears into invisibility in comparison.

Re-Decorate Public Housing
Taxpayer funded housing for the 1st family should only be 'refurbished' if it is substandard. And I'm not talking accoutrements. You don't like the color of the paint? Too bad. The drapes aren't to your liking? Tough cookies. You don't like the type of carpet? Get over it. The china is used? Oh well. You want the stuff changed or replaced? PAY FOR IT YOURSELF.

I'm willing to bet there will be many posts just talking about how Obama is an idiot etc... but come on people, be an adult and recognize when someone does something of merit, even if they do other things you disagree with. This is something we all should applaud, and I tip my hat to Neal for mentioning it. You certainly won't hear someone like dapper-Dan Hannity mention this on his broadcast.

Oval Office redecoration
He doesn't need to redecorate. He's too busy traveling to Jay Leno's studio, 60 Minutes locations, and everywhere else to avoid the Oval Office and the responsibilities he cannot handle.

Good deed? Neal, do you honestly think he is doing this out of the bottom of his heart or is it another phony calculated political move? Why do you even acknowledge such nonsense? The fact that something so trivial made it to the media shows that it was a calculated move to make Obama "feel your pain".
Why doesn't this Idiot-in-Chief donate all his book "excessive, greedy," earnings from the book deal he signed mere days before he took office to really show how he cares??? Why doesn't he give a few extra bucks to his brother who lives in a hut? Surely, he can at least send him a rice cooker or something?
Obama's redecorating White House
Unlike the Bush's who HAD to redecorate much of the White House due to vandalism and/or plundering, the Obama's don't have to. The Bush's, despite all the problems, at least have enough class and respect for the place to not leave it a mess, unlike certain previous administrations....
