WANT SOME CHEERY NEWS?

This one isn't going to make your day ... at least not if you're a person who believes in yourself and your own abilities. I'm reading the book "Comeback, Conservatism That Can Win Again" by David Frum. Now a lot of conservatives are a bit upset with Frum because he is delivering a message that they don't particularly like. That message? That Reagan politics were for the Reagan years .. and that conservatives need to adjust their policies and philosophies to the current era if they are to regain any semblance of power in Washington.

Well .. you can judge that one for yourself. But I did want to share some points Frum makes in his book that I found, to say the least, unsettling. Let me just present them to you as bullet points. Here are some of the reasons why the Statists have the advantage for the time being ...

  • Republicans draw votes from white voters, Democrats from nonwhites. European Americans were 80% of the population in 1980. The number is now 70%. By 2020 it will be 60%.
  • Married women vote Republican. Unmarried? You'll vote Democrat. I would venture that this is because unmarried women look to the government for the security that should be provided by a husband. The number of women in this country who are unmarried in their late 30s has doubled since Reagan was elected.
  • If you have children you are more likely to vote Republican. No children? You're most likely a Democrat voter. Since Reagan was elected the number of women who have not downloaded a tricycle motor by age 40 has doubled.
  • Go to church, you'll vote Republican. No church? Democrat. You don't need me to tell you that church attendance is in a steady decline.
  • Just a high school education? You're probably a Republican voter. Uneducated? You'll vote Democrat. Ditto if you're sitting on an advanced degree. Guess which two groups are growing and which group is stagnated. I think you can figure this one out for yourselves.

Here are some other gems from Frum's book:

  • Democrats are far less likely than Republicans to define themselves as "extremely proud" to be an American. Nice.
  • Democrats are less likely than Republicans to believe that the United States can solve its problems. In other words, we need to look outside of our country to the international community for those solutions.
  • Democrat voters are far more likely than Republican voters to feel that their own success in life is beyond their control. If you can't control your own future ... just what good is freedom anyway? Right?
  • Democrats are more likely than Republicans to basically give up when faced with adversity. Yup ... give up and rely on government.

Things have changed out there. Self-sufficiency is out. Government dependency is in. Politicians love this .. they just absolutely LOVE it. Those who love freedom are shocked and dismayed.

Now .. as you ponder these documented statistics and facts from David Frum's book, can you tell me where the next great Republican leader is? I hate to say this ... and it isn't going to make me any friends ... but we aren't going to save American by sitting around and chanting "Reagan, Reagan, Reagan" all day long. The young voters out there that we need to rely on couldn't write one cohesive paragraph about Ronald Reagan, and they're not going to sit down and do the research. Someone needs to step forward with the eloquence and charisma needed to convince our young people that true fulfillment will come from personal achievement realized through interaction with others in a free society, not from government dependence and eventual enslavement. If you see someone out there who can deliver that message ... let me know. I've been looking for him (or her).

Getting a lot of email inquiries about this one. The book begins with an EMP attack on America. That would be "electromagnetic pulse" weapon. Within minutes the entire electric grid across America is disabled. Anything with a computer chip or advanced electronics in it that was not protected is toast. A '65 Mustang will run. Any newer car will not. No communications ... nothing. The intriguing thing about this book is that these weapons exist, they can be procured by our enemies, and the scenario presented in this book could begin today. The book is One Second After by William Forschten. Why do I think this book is important now? Because the threats are still out there, and we have a president who I believe is showing unmistakable signs of weakness. We're vulnerable. This could well be the weapon of choice for someone out there who wants the end of America.

BE GLAD WE AREN'T EUROPE .. YET

We are getting there, folks. This country is heading rapidly down a path of government imposed mediocrity. And that's the way the people of Europe want it to be.

Almost half of the people in France believe that it is acceptable for workers who are facing layoffs to lock up their evil, greedy bosses. What's more, 56% of blue-collar workers approve of boss-nappings.

This is the type of attitude that is fostered and even encouraged by the constant hammering on the high-achievers in our society. Never have I seen wealth envy so intense, and never have I seen it so eagerly promoted by demagogues in power.

I would love to see this same poll taken in this country. I think I'll ask on the show today just what actions my listeners believe they can legitimately take against their employer if they are laid off.

Race pimp Al Sharpton is at it again. This time he is making his way over to Maricopa County, Arizona. His latest battle cry is over Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has been a guest on my show. Sheriff Joe is doing his best to enforce immigration laws in his city, and Al Sharpton wants none of it. In fact, Sharpton is calling for Sheriff Joe's resignation or removal.

Al is accusing Sheriff Joe of racially profiling Hispanics. He says, "I am first calling for the resignation and or removal of Sheriff Arpaio ... harassment based on color is nothing short of racial profiling, which many of us ... helped to fight to make against the law." Well .. an interesting take from this overblown race pimp. The people invading our country are from South of the border. It just happens that their skin is, for the most part, a bit darker than that of white Americans. Sharpton, who wants to increase the non-white numbers in this country as much as possible, uses the fact that the people staging the invasion are darker skinned to scream racial profiling. This lying sack of bloviating bull squeeze would probably require that Arpaio target an equal number of whites in Southern Arizona in his search for illegals.

Oh there's more. Sharpton says, "Arpaio needs to be confronted, he needs to be removed. ... We also need to suspend the law that he is using. We must stand with our brown brothers and sisters."

Wait a minute! Isn't the very phrase "brown brothers and sisters" racial profiling?

Will someone please tell me who takes Al Sharpton seriously anymore?

ENSURING THE POOR VOTE

Attorney General Eric Holder has his latest marching orders from the Senate: sue any states that aren't helping the needy register to vote. You see, Democrats have made it so that federal law requires agencies to register people to vote when they are distributing government welfare like food stamps or unemployment benefits. The poorer you are, the more uneducated you probably are. The more uneducated you are the more likely you will vote for Democrats. Not all that hard to figure out, is it? Please note that Democrats aren't all that eager to get the achieving class registered to vote. Problem is, neither are the Republicans.

IS CHENEY REALLY 'DEAD WRONG'?

Joe Biden had some harsh words for his predecessor Dick Cheney. Not only was Cheney wrong when he said that Barack Obama's policies were making America less safe ... but he was "dead wrong."

Okay, Joe. Tell me how. Tell me what policies Obama has put in place or a decision he has made that has made our country a safer place. Judging by Obama's response - or lack thereof - to North Korea's missile launch ... or the plan to cut military funding ... and his latest apology tour in Europe ... tell me how our country is more safe.

Biden said, "I don't think he is out of line, but he is dead wrong. ... The last administration left us in a weaker posture than we've been any time since World War II: less regarded in the world, stretched more thinly than we ever have been in the past, two wars under way, virtually no respect in entire parts of the world ... And so we've been about the business of repairing and strengthening those. I guarantee you we are safer today, our interests are more secure today than they were any time during the eight years" of the Bush administration.

Biden certainly hasn't lost his penchant for BS. We've gone over this. North Korea says they're going to launch a missile in violation of international sanctions. We tell North Korea not to do it, but if they do we aren't going to do anything about it. North Korea launches the missile .. and true to our word we do nothing. Oh ... we do ask the United Nations to act, but that's it. The very next day we announce huge cutbacks in military spending, including, amazingly enough, cutbacks in spending on a missile defense system. Then BS Biden says we're safer now than we ever were under Bush?

Only the illogical mind of a liberal could buy this.

Okay, folks. We have our predictions for this year's hurricane season from a Colorado State University forecast team. They predict that we are going to have six hurricanes this year. Only six? But I thought that all of this global warming was supposed to cause multiple catastrophic events like Katrina?

We'll keep you informed as to how global warming will affect a hurricane near you. In the meantime, enjoy the colder-than-usual weather.

Colorado is considering a bill that would create a single-payer healthcare plan. The bill would establish a 23-member commission that would design a universal health insurance system.

So this government-run system would replace the current private system but ... the bill itself does not include funding for the authority, which means that it would have to rely on private donations in order to function.

Private donations? Are you kidding me?

This whole idea of a state-run system of medical care comes, of course, from the mind of a Democrat. There is absolutely no room for any private sector involvement in this plan. This commission will decide who gets health care, and what type of health care they will receive. There will eventually be onerous taxes levied against the people of Colorado. But wait .. there's more! Deadbeats will start moving to Colorado just to take care of their guaranteed health care system. They won't have jobs or a place to live. Crime will increase. The burden on Colorado residents will increase. Health care will be rationed. But through this all the government will be strengthened ... because the government will control access to health care for the people of Colorado. Government and politicians love this stuff.

GOVERNMENT CONTROL OF THE BANKS

How many of you remember the "Know Your Customer" program that the feds wanted to impose on banks some years ago? Now that Barack is so determined to control the banks in this country, could "Know Your Customer" be on the way back? Not the Know Your Customer program put into effect under the Patriot Act ... I'm talking about the program proposed by the Clintonistas many years ago.

If you don't remember the program, perhaps you need to be listening today. I'll remind you of what was and may be again.

I'm just waiting for the Obama crowd to bring back the imputed income idea and, if we're really lucky, a one-time seizure of pension and IRA funds.

The webwench spotted this scene on the way to work at the Mothership this morning. See if you can spot the problem. There was a woman on a cell phone looking distressed standing by the car at one point. We're assuming she was the driver. ETA: we do not know that she was on the cell phone when she got into this pickle.

OK .. you hotshots figured out that "The Strike" was actually the original name for "Atlas Shrugged." Fine. Now see if you can tell me Cinderella's last name. I know you can Google it .. but wouldn't that be cheating?

A Chinese national is smuggling nuclear weapons materials to Iran from New York banks?

Reality is finally settling in for the Obama administration. And that means that Obama's dreams and schemes are becoming less of a reality.

How about these charges being dismissed against Ted Stevens? Looks like someone in the justice department has some 'splainin to do.

The Washington Post has a little break down of what we learned on Barack Obama's spring break.

Based on the media reports, the troops in Baghdad were filled with nothing but love for Obama on his surprise visit.

With each passing day, General Motors inches closer and closer to bankruptcy.

UN climate talks have stalled because richer countries can't agree to cut carbon emissions and poorer countries want more money.

The Chairman of Citigroup says that he has grown tired of critics "demonizing the bankers" over the worldwide financial crisis. Yeah, no kidding.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are down in Cuba having a little meet and greet with Fidel and Raul Castro.

That Orinoco Flow thing that I'm so smitten with? Here it is. The one in the middle is mine.

Jonah Goldberg says that Obama's worst bailout thus far has been that of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Uh oh ... environmental health groups are concerned about the safety of Sasha and Malia's White House playground.

Have you ever heard of the P.U.M.A. - or the Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility vehicle? General Motors certainly thinks it has the time and money to develop it.
