YOU ASKED FOR CHANGE, AND YOU GOT IT

... and the change you asked for and got is an executive branch that covets the power to seize private businesses when it sees fit. HTCWICOTTD* Tim Geithner wants Congress to recognize his regulatory powers to seize non-bank financial companies. And what is Barack Obama's response? I hope "it doesn't take too long" to convince Congress to approve this new authority.

This is an unprecedented amount of power being requested by the Obama administration. In fact, I wouldn't even say requested so much as demanded and expected. That government should have this level of power and influence in your lives, your businesses, your money, your property and your freedom. This is what Democrats have been wanting. And with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi by his side, Barack Obama and Tim Geithner may very well succeed.

Thanks for the change!

What others are saying

  • Unconstitutional?
I'm sorry, but does the phrase unconstitutional have any real meaning anymore? This is far, far more overbearing then the British were in 1776.

Let's just hope and pray that a Congressional roundup in 2010 can undo these fools. But, who knows. President Obama might have someone corrupt get the "right" to seize votes.

To the McCain guy: Um, yeah, no. Sorry, but not quite. You haven't got any of us fooled. You're not a Conservative, and you're not using your head. Besides the fact that it's too late for this to matter, but if we had a President McCain, this would be a completely separate situation. If nothing else, the media wouldn't allow him to do whatever he wants.
  • Treas Sec
So when does ol' Wesley Mouch release directive 10-289?
  • This is stupid
Who gets to decide when an institution is ready for the picking? Obama? Geitner? Scary.
  • HTCWICOTTD
...could also stand for, "Head Tax Cheat Who's In Charge Of The Tax Dollars".
  • Maybe it's just me but .........
    .....there's something rodent-like about tax-cheat, wunderkid Geithner.
  • non-back financial institutions
If they gain this power, then they can "take over" all of the investment firms where guess what? All of our 401K, 403B, Roth IRAs and other IRAs are held. Trillions and trillions of dollars worth of private retirement savings.
Are you still wondering how this administration plans to pay for all the massive spending?
  • Mccain voters...
Really you guys have yourselves to blame for allowing yourselves to be lead astray in believing that Mccain was actually somehow different or better for this country than Obama. Voting Mccain split the conservative vote and took votes away from the 2 parties that actually wanted conservatism to move forward in this country, that would be the Constitutional and Libertarian parties. Lets face it, no person who was serious about small government would have voted Mccain. Many simply voted for him because they allowed their TV's to convince them that he would do things differently from Obama, which is likely flat out wrong. You should know by now, once you hand republicans power they do nothing to shrink government. The Republican party can no longer be relied on to support traditional conservatism.
  • A few questions
Will seizing private businesses be written in to the tax code? Which forms will the seizee have to fill out for this honor? When a business is seized within the fiscal year, before the numbers are crunched, will the seizee have to pay taxes on their seized business on an amortized real profit basis or a past-profit estimate level? On the occasion that a business owner, whose business is seized, fail to vacate their duly rented business property or hand over their confidential business documents, will it be mere prison time, or perhaps will summary execution be authorized, with bullet and cleanup costs to be assessed to the individual's estate?
  • Tiny Tim has got shifty eyes
My Mama always told me not to trust anyone with shifty eyes. Geithner gives new meaning to the phrase.
  • HTCWICOTTD
Head tax cheat who's in charge of the treasury department.
  • To Matt:
The left only gets upset when government violates the "rights" of terrorists.
  • Really?
Because Bush made some mistakes that most got POed about, it is now perfectly find for the Dems and Obama to try it? Well now that Obama is doing this why we shouldn't say a word.

Guess again sparky! Many howled at some of the cr*p GWB tried. But its not Bush now its OBAMA. He's wearing the t-shirt with the bullseye on it now.

Most of you two faced libs weren't saying much when your 401k was doing good and all these special programs were started. OBAMA DOES NOT GIVE A RATS BACKSIDE ABOUT YOU OR ME! Sooner you figure this out, the sooner we can all get together and find a solution.

Thought: Have you noticed how many libs don't defend OBAMA, all they can do is say, "Well look at what Bush did."
  • Obama & Geithner seem to be taking cues...
...from the Adolf Hitler/Benito Mussolini playbook. The so-called "Youth Service" program is the first step.....this is nothing less than the ultimate form of statism.

No wonder the European Union calls the current administration's plans "the road to hell". They've experienced fascism first-hand....Obama scares the sh*t out of them and rightly so.

When are we going to wake up?
  • htc
I'm thinking he looks alot like the sleazebag in the movie "Ghost". Was'nt he trying to steal alot of people's money too?
  • sand in shoes...
Where does it say stimulus package, world police, or amnesty for illegals in the constitution?
  • Really?
    John,
Could you enlighten us all as to what "power grab" or "shredding of the Constitution" the Bush administration did that was close to seizing public companies.
  • HTCWICOTTD
Obama wants to put a dummy in charge of all our money who claims he can't even figure out TurboTax!
    UGH ... good move ... !
  • DAWUSS
Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
  • Our bully president
Once again, here is an example of how this street thug bully is going to operate...and the "dumb asses" who support him don't have a clue.
  • Mars Attacks
Is it just me or doesn't he look like the Martians in the Mars Attacks movie. Wasn't that about taking over Washington, too?
  • Really?
Unprecedented? Really? More so than any of Bush's power grabs, denial of accountability, or shredding of the constitution?

Power grab? Absolutely. Unprecedented? Not close.
  • New Ammendment
We have separation of church and state. How about an ammendment to separate business from government?

The federal government should be prohibited from running anything that can be handled by private enterprise. This would include education, health care, investing, finance, research, welfare, housing, agriculture, etc.
  • Where are they now
Where have all these people who complained so loudly about the rights GWB was taking from them and how GWB's executive branch was taking powers it didn't have. Sure is quiet on the left, must be embarrassment.
  • Treasury takings
Time to start getting very scared as once again the congress prepares to shred the constitution. Hummm looks like violating the takings clause. Coming soon to you, taking all of your retirement savings(401-K, pension, IRA, PSP) to fund the retirement of the less fortunate! Just because you deferred that income doesn't mean you need it. The precedance will be set, afterall its for the good of the country (and the children).
  • "HTCWICOTTD?
You starred it, as though to explain it, but you didn't tell us what it stands for! I can guess the first three (Head Tax Cheat), but I have no clue as to the rest."

Head Tax Cheat Who's In Charge Of The Treasury Department.
  • If you were a Ron Paul voter...
....we've seen this stuff coming for quite sometime...hell pretty much since Paul was out of the race. We really would have gotten a lot of the same types of power grabs with moderate democrats like Mccain or Romney. It really should come as no surprise, and I'm pretty sure this is just the wee tip of the iceberg. Wait until they start seizing the money in retirement accounts. This is radicalist behavior by the federal government, there's just no 2 ways about it. We could have put a stop to it with Paul. Hopefully the conservatives...REAL...traditional conservatives...can wake up out of the neo-conservative leftist Bush fog, and get a Ron Paul type in office. Its really the only way to save the country from the soft fascism its moving to.
  • Any way?
Can Christina or anyone do a morph of Geithners photo into the Grinch or the Cheshire Cat? Man, this guy is scary.
  • I was gonna mention...
There's no footnote. I was beaten to it. I'm slow this morning.
  • HTCWICOTTD?
You starred it, as though to explain it, but you didn't tell us what it stands for! I can guess the first three (Head Tax Cheat), but I have no clue as to the rest.
