WHAT ELSE HAS BARACK OBAMA BEEN UP TO

The Washington Times is reporting that the Obama administration is quietly ending the federal firearms program that allows pilots to carry guns if they've completed a federal-safety program.

This past week, the administration apparently diverted $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots. Since Barack Obama was elected, the approval process for pilots to carry guns on planes "slowed significantly." And with this move last week, the process has completely stalled.

The question is, why? As of right now, 12,000 pilots have been approved to carry guns. There are zero cases in which those pilots have improperly brandished or used those guns. Doesn't matter to PrezBO though. The Democrats are in charge, and Democrats don't like for the people they wish to control to be armed. All that simple.

What others are saying

  • What is going on
The AIG bonuses stuff is a non-issue. The government is making a big deal out of it solely to divert attention from their own reckless spending (the bailouts themselves) to how a bailout recipient spends its bailout money.

America is over. It is done. I hear the everyday morons in everyday life moan about the stupid stuff and cheer the antics of their government heroes. It is incredible how absolutely ignorant (and in some cases, just plain stupid) the American people are right now. We cannot recover from this. Our military has defended the US from external enemies for over 200 years and smashed all would-be invaders. However, there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to defend America against its own people. It cannot be done. The idiots vastly outnumber the informed. The herd is stampeding toward the cliff. It will not stop, cannot be stopped, until it flows over the edge like a waterfall and gets a nasty, high-speed introduction to gravity.

I am leaving. It will take me 2 years to get ready. Hopefully we won't experience anything much worse than occurred under Jimmy Carter within that time period. As far as "generational theft" is concerned, forget it...This collapse won't take generations. I don't think this country has so much as a decade remaining.

Ten years from now, every American will be a capitalist. They will have no choice, for the bloated, diseased sow that the losers suckle on today will have died by then and the schmucks in the peanut gallery will have to fend for themselves.

Climbing back up will take a long, long time. We will be looking up to other countries...such as France. (If that doesn't give you perspective, just go back to sleep.)
  • President Obama
I wish Neal would address President Obama not by PrezBO. I find it disrespectful to the office of President as I found liberals who referred to President Bush as Bushie. Of course, Neal is an entertainer and relatively successful in this role, so perhaps I should defer to his wisdom.

I think President Bush tried to do well and did better than many liberals realizle. WMD's were found in Iraq (improperly stored, so they were not effective) and WMD development was prepared as soon as sanctions would be lifted (although Iran and Israel were viewed as more threatening targets, hence the misleading information released by Iraq... oops!). While I applaud President Bush's support for the new administration, I believe that President Bush made a large number of mistakes, most of which came from his desire to "do good" rather than doing what was right (Constitutionally or letting the generals make the decisions).

If we view talk radio as entertainment then should we limit liberal entertainment if "fairness" is applied? Then for every time an entertainment show discusses superficial discrimination (attractive entertainers) and sports lottery winners (professional athletes) then it should also provide equal time to those who succeed through hard work, good career choices and ... well, maybe that would not be quite so entertaining to the dumb masses.

Speaking of "fairness", does any adult use this word? (liberals, especially union members, don't count) Does any adult expect something to be fair? On the other hand, many liberals avoid the word "earn" and instead talk about how "fortunate" they are if they have some money.
  • Obama's new airline safety program
Pilots will not be allowed to pack heat but will be issued a copy of a sternly worded personal plea from pres. Obama to give to the alleged potential hijackers. #2-All passengers will be issued nerf balls and a spork to defend themselves #3-Sky marshals will only be armed with a dull box-cutter and a supersoaker water pistol to put them on a "level playing field" with hijackers. Thank you for flying american!!
  • A quibble about the quibble
I have to clarify the "clarification" made by Fact Checker. The article says that therer have been "zero cases in which those pilots have improperly brandished or used those guns." The incident mentioned by Fact Checker and Brian was an accidental discharge--not an instance of a pilot brandishing or improperly using a weapon. The point of the article is that these pilots are not some loose cannons in the cockpit--they are trained as law enforcement officers. While an accidental discharge is certainly dangerous, it was NOT a case of a pilot improperly firing at, or threatening to fire at, someone, which is what the article addresses.
  • Maggie
We need to aggressively and publicly prosecute ACORN's leadership for election fraud and assault (for their charming bank intimidation tactics). That might cool Obama's ardor for employing those thugs for the Census.
  • Guns (in general)
I'm a federal law enforcement officer and carry my gun aboard planes frequently. I know I feel safer! To borrow a qoute I once heard, "An armed society is a polite society."
  • I fail to see the logic in this...
Airline pilots are trusted with flying those big pieces of machinery, ferrying thousands of people every day...but they cannot be trusted with keeping a loaded firearm in the cockpit?
Calling 911 doesn't do much good at 35,000 feet if there's a highjacker on board.
    Calling 9mm does.
  • One small thing to quibble about
This posting is incorrect when it says "There are zero cases in which those pilots have improperly brandished or used those guns." There was an accidental discharge last year on a US Airways flight.

  • Good Point Dan!
After all, how long has it been since the secret service had to use them? The must not really need them then!

Oh, but we're forgetting, the government already controls the secret service.

Good advice from everyone on getting a CCW permit!
  • Pilots and guns
Actually, Neal's claim that there have been 0 incidents regarding pilots with firearms is inaccurate. March 24, 2008, a US Air pilot negligently discharged his firearm in the cockpit.

  • Why the surprise?
We knew Obama was a cupcake....

Advice to all: get your CCW permit while you still can.....
  • What's HE been up to....
This is probably not the right place for this comment, but here goes. This man is so COMMON. On GMA this morning they spent an inordinate amount of time on footage of PrezBo talking about his picks for March Madness, along with shots of him playing b-ball. Give me a break. I'm sure this was aired because his ratings are tanking...you know, show the guy who is just like us. Ugh!!!
  • Pilots....Wash times article
In stark contrast to an op-ed article in today’s edition (March 17, 2009) of the Washington Times, that claims “…President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology,” TSA officials reassured ALPA they are committed to the FFDO program and have plans for its expansion.
TSA’s leadership immediately contacted ALPA and requested a meeting to discuss this news report. ALPA representatives met with TSA executives this afternoon and were told that TSA embraces the FFDO program, that there are no plans to reduce or restrict its growth, and that the agency fully intends to grow and expand the program.
Government representatives acknowledged that the program needs additional funding to achieve these goals, and that they are actively pursuing sources of additional funding. These funds will be used to enhance the program’s management structure and oversight, which if implemented, will address an ALPA Board of Directors security priority.
TSA is currently training hundreds of pilots each year and plans to continue to train at least that number or more into the future. The size of the FFDO cadre has grown so large that additional resources are needed to provide greater structure and oversight to this important program, which TSA referred to today as “an important layer of defense.”
“ALPA is very pleased that the TSA was so proactive in communicating its concerns to the Association and we are likewise pleased that we are able to report this good news to the membership,” said ALPA President, Capt. John Prater. “ALPA values its relationship with the TSA, and it is obvious from the way the agency handled this event that the feeling is mutual.”

FYI For ya Neal...this comes from the Airline Pilots Association:

  • Guns
I think the secret service should have it's guns banned, too
  • What Obama's been up to
That settles it for me. I've been thinking about getting a CCP (concealed carry permit) for a while now. I'm going to go get one right now while I still can, and then go buy a new Glock or two.
  • What Obama's been up to
I just read on FOX that ACORN has been recruited to participate in taking the 2010 Census. I applied for one of those jobs, took the test (months ago) and still haven't heard from them. I guess I know why now. I am OUTRAGED. This "administration" is far worse (and more dangerous) than Jimmy Carter's-- that's saying something!!
