Back to the Tax Cheat in Chief. Timothy Geithner laid out his plans yesterday for more government control over financial institutions. And Barney Frank says that while the industry is likely to have their boxers in a bunch over these regulations .. there is nothing they can do about it. He says, "The ability of the financial community to block any of this legislation is diminished completely."

As usual, Jamie Dupree has the full text of the plan.

What others are saying

  • Callers Comment Today
Could somebody PLEASE, if you remember the caller today that said his wife was a Corp. tax lawyer. He made a very HUGE statement about the 'Geithner clause' or something to that effect that was getting tax cases thrown out.
If you heard this caller too, what was the term he used? I was driving and couldn't write it down.
I want to investigate this further. Please help.
  • Tax Cheat?
Don't you really mean the unrepentant knowing tax cheat?
  • Red Leader
Red, I voted for every Libertarian I could find on my ballot, quite a few local surprisingly! Did not vote for Barr just because I was so so terrified of Obama getting in office. Turns out I was right to be afraid but my efforts were for nought. I'll be voting for the best conservative (true conservative) candidate, hopefully a Libertarian. But I will definitely be voting out all incumbents where I can.
  • More Overthight?
I meant oversight, gosh, he's got me doing that now! And there's nothing they can do? Perhaps, just wait til it's time to renew your D.C. Library card Mr. Frank. One of these days, even folks in Massachusetts will get tired of your brand of BS. And poor Lil' Timmy Geithner, how long will it take for Congress to run his narrow rear end out of town on a rail? This Congress and Administration are kind of like frozen yogurt, after the first couple of bites, you wish you'd held out for the real thing. We see odd behavior from other countries on 'funniest video' shows and now we have our very own 'most outrageous moments' compilation! And it'll be on dvd before you know it! Maybe Copyleft can pick one up for his vcr!
  • Quote
    "Suffering succotash"!- Barney "Sylvester" Frank.
I just hope he doesn't say "stimulus".
  • Barney Frank
As usual, Barney is wrong. The financial institutions could finance impeachment impeachment proceedings on Barney and the rest of them. It might not go anywhere much but it would give them something else to do -protection their butts- besides consolidating their positions to give them lifetime power.
Barney is a past master at this tactic (see Scalia) and it would be really sweet to see it used against him.
  • How about
if and when we regain control of OUR republic, we round up all the socialist lefties, try them for treason and dispense the punishment for same. Shouldn't be too difficult since few of them are armed.....
  • Pelosi & Healthcare
Insurance companies don't make money by charging more premium than paying claims. Their profit comes from investment of funds in transition. It is currently against the law for the government to do that. Add in the GAO estimate that 31% of Medicare Claims paid by the gummit are fraudulent (that's why Medicare Advantage plans from insurance companies can offer more benefits ta the gummit plan) and exactly how much more is this "free" healthcare going to cost us?
I can decrese healthcare costs in one step, outlaw the "Certificate of Need" programs that protect hospital corporations from competition by not allowing competition and line politician's pockets.
  • Smacktalk...I know where you're coming from...
    ...but do not let the media persuade you that you only have 2 options. Think about this, both Mccain and Obama (and Romney) were for;

    Expanding the federal government
keeping the income tax in place
    amnesty
spending money that America does not have
not abolishing about 50% of federal government entitlement programs.

The only candidates for small government at least remotely taking the constitution into account in this last election were Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin. Bob Barr was indeed an available candidate to vote for despite the media trying to cover him up with not even half the amount of coverage given to Komrads Obama and Mccain.

Don't let yourself be fooled by media repetition.

If we vote our principles, with small government principled candidates and not who the media tell us is going to win (Im talking to you Boortz) then we can get some real change.
  • If this is the attitude?
Then what is to stop obozo, timmy and nancy, barney and the whole gang from taking over say, Wal-Mart?

They are the largest employer in the US besides the federal government? If they were to fail, that would provide systemic risk? So, why not take them over on Monday? After that, why shouldned nancy and her gang of 40 thieves swoop in and take over California? If they fail, that's systemic risk? Gosh, why not take over that deli down on main street to? Sure they make great sandwiches and soup; but they are a meeting place for the quicked republicans and free thinkers; and they provide more systemic risk to the 40 theives agenda...

While they are at it; why not take over Disney and Citidel Broadcasting (the producers of the Hannity Radio show); Cox Communications (Boortz) they provide systemic risk to the polices of the 40 theives...

But, its good for the country ... if they say so?

Can't we please have a recall election? NEAL; what is the process to remove a sitting president and their henchmen / lackies?

    Danger

    This is so scary.
  • Red Leader...
If only Barr, Paul, Hunter, or Romney had been candidate-elect... Some of us were forced to vote McCain in the end if only to try to keep Comrade Obama out of office.

Copyleft is proof liberals like to see America fail ('Life is Good' indeed).
  • lockstep power grab.
We have voted ourselves to death..

thanks american idol watchers... thanks for the destruction of the greatest nation to have ever existed in the history of the world..

oh but dont worry.. once the national civilian security force is on every corner with night sticks asking for your "papers" you'll be able to sleep well at night in your govt provided pajamas with your govt provided bed in your govt provided home knowing that glorious leader is watching over you.
  • Good news!
Thanks for posting this, Neal. It gets my weekend off to a great start.

Knowing that public oversight and accountability over the finance industry is on the way, AND unstoppable... yum, yum. Very satisfying, and great news for America.

Let's hope the CEO looters are crying and quaking in their Guccis. Life is good.
  • wow....
Truly amazing. The march towards communism and the destruction of America continues. Thanks for laying the ground work and opening the door for the fundamentals of socialism George W. Bush. Again if you voted for the anti-conservative Komrad Mccain instead of a conservative like Barr,Paul or Baldwin then you helped to split the conservative vote. Always remember you don't have to go with the crap options of the demopublican party. We really need some libertarian/traditional conservative types in office. It the only way to fight back against the lawlessness.
  • Barney Frank
Why can't Barney Frank go on one of those "cruises" and then be the guy who falls overboard and is NEVER heard from again! I bet he speaks clearer underwater!
