THE MIDDLE-CLASS

Congressional Democrats are currently battling it out over a budget. But there seems to be one big piece of the Obama agenda that is missing from their plans: Obama's beloved middle-class tax cut. If you'll remember, much of these tax cuts aren't even tax cuts at all, more like welfare for people who don't pay taxes. But the idea was quite effective at getting Obama elected.

OMD Director Peter Orszag says, "while 98% of the budget mark-ups in the House and Senate are on par with the administration's budget blueprint, some campaign trail promises, like middle class tax cuts, may get left on the cutting room floor."

Now don't get all grouchy just yet. His middle class tax cut does appear in his economic stimulus package. Otherwise known as the government growth bill. So once the people get used to the idea of this "tax cut" there is no way that the Democrats are going to take that away.

By the way ... really do need to remind you. These people don't pay income taxes. What Obama is calling a "tax cut" is really government checks TO the taxpayer instead of checks FROM the taxpayer. Nice way to build government dependency.

What others are saying

  • No rest for the wary
I have resigned myself the idea that I'm going to write checks to the IRS til I decide to just not make money and quit contributing. The next day I'll probably get run over by a hoveround driven by one of those 'less fortunate' types. What are you gonna do?
  • Excellent point Kathy
I guess that may explain the current baby boom among single women.
  • No right to vote
A smart man once said that America will remain a great nation until the electorate learns that they can vote themselves money from the public treasury.
There is no constitutionaly guaranteed right to vote in federal elections. I will support any politician, regardless of their party, that will limit voting in federal elections to property owners with at least a 25% equity ownership, persons not receiving welfare, taxpayers, those in the military, and those not employed by the federal government. Sheesh, that don't leave too many.
  • Middle class tax cut
Interesting point about those who pay tax - if you are single with no children, you pay taxes at a pretty low level of income. Once you have a child your tax liability drops and you start getting money back due to the Earned Income Tax Credit. So a single person making $25,000 a year would actually pay taxes, while a single mom making the same amount would get back $4,000 or so, and would never have had any withholding. Our current tax system is subsidizing single parents at the expense of everyone else. Until they make around $42,000 or so, then they start inching toward the rich.
  • What is a "tax cut"
Taxes are simply taking money from a person. You either take less or more but you don't "cut" what you are already taking. This makes it seem that you are no longer taking but giving something back, which you took in the first place. This is like a robber stealing 100 dollars in jewelry from your house and sending you a 10 dollar earring "rebate" or a "robbery cut".
  • Middle class tax cut
Man I can't wait to get my Obama tax cut next month. All of $8 a week from what I conclude. Now I hear I might not get it.Man, I was going to buy a new boat with that huge bundle.Does anyone notice that this Obama character is nothing but a liar and a fraud?Don't you just hate it when children are put in charge of adult problems?
  • Tax Warfare
We should be very afraid. When you combine inexperience and ineptitude with a class warfare driven Marxist agenda, the perfect storm awaits. May God help our great country.
  • Christy
I think it's because their definition of middle class keeps changing. If you are into 6 figures, I'm sure you are in the "rich" class, according to the Dems. Until I see a tax table to be used to file taxes I don't believe any of it.
  • The Middle Class
Obama can take his Modern Day Jim Crow Laws of segregating America by class and shove it up his wazoo.
  • @Freekey
That's okay Mr. drums, I paid enough for the both of us. Looks like Obamamabamalongbambooms' plans are working as designed.
  • "Middle class" tax cuts
I find that, some how no one I know can see that these "tax cuts" for the MIDDLE CLASS meet any accepted standard definuition for "Middle Class". The plan as nearly as I can determine is for those who don't work and think that thoes identified bu normal standards as Middle Class are lousy stinking "rich bastards"!

I for one am what I have always believed to be "middle class" and have worked, paid my taxes and suported my family since I was 14 years old (some 47 years now).

I've tried several businesses along the way some worke out well and others flopped but such is the way of life!

I'm not dissapointed that this "tax cut" may not make it in this budget. Perhaps those of us who "pay" taxes may feel a little relief for a while, not adding to our support of those who don't pay taxes but get a refund. Who's bright idea was the "earned Income Credit" anyway?

    Keith Hensley
    Retired TPD
  • No surprise there.
It seems like only yesterday wild bill was telling us he never worked so hard on anything in his life, but we just couldn't afford it. I wasn't suckered then, I wasn't suckered this time. Ignore what they say, watch what they do.

Dp voters never learn not to look down when you point at something imaginary on their collar. No wonder they need someone to think for them and make all their big decisions.
  • I Don't Pay Taxes?
I'm confused as to how the Middle Class doesn't pay taxes. Barely into 6 figures puts me as middle class. I don't use government schools but scrimp to pay for better. In fact, as far as services, like roads and such, I'm probably the most minimal of user.

I own my home so do have a schedule A deduction, but it is fairly minimal.

In short, I pay something very, very close to what the simple payroll dediction for "Single with 1" is and it isn't small.

How is it that a person who uses almost nothing (save minimal road use) yet pays a fourth of my pay each and every year into taxes isn't paying taxes?

Do you have those of us who are well educated, professional and working confused with those are professional leeches or democrats?
  • tax return
i just filed my taxes and because of the tuition credit, i'm "allowed" to keep every penny i earned last year. While this means i'm not paying my share of the gov't, what we have is not MY gov't. I am glad that none of my money is being taken by force for obama's campaign contribution.
