The EPA wants to make sure that it has its way with businesses and development .. all in the name of global warming. The agency has proposed to the White House that global warming is endangering the public's health and welfare. So what does that mean? Find a way to regulate it!

You might be thinking "big deal, Boortz." Well it is a big deal. And it could eventually come back to bite us. Remember what I always tell you about the law of unintended consequences? Considering global warming as a danger of public health will lead to the establishment of national limits of global warming pollution. And any business knows that this spells disaster.

Bill Kovacs, of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, explains, "By moving forward with the endangerment finding on greenhouse gases, EPA is putting in motion a set of decisions that may have far-reaching unintended consequences ... Specifically, once the finding is made, no matter how limited, some environmental groups will sue to make sure it is applied to all aspects of the Clean Air Act ... This will mean that all infrastructure projects, including those under the president's stimulus initiative, will be subject to environmental review for greenhouse gases. Since not one of the projects has been subjected to that review, it is possible that the projects under the stimulus initiative will cease. This will be devastating to the economy."

Always keep in mind that the environmental movement was essentially hijacked by communists and socialists after the fall of the Soviet Union.

What others are saying

  • "Going Green $$$$"
Global warming is one of the greatest money making scams in history. The greatest business model you can make is to convince the masses that your product is not only essential for life, but actually the world is going to end without it. Get so celebrity endorsement and have the mentally challenged lefties jump on board and you are going to be rich, very rich...

Here's the truth, global warming is based upon bad science and no where close to being able to be considered a credible theory (as only half of the scientific world buys into man made global warming). Here's some key facts:

1.) The world's carbon use has followed an exponential pattern since the industrial revolution

2.) Water vapor, not carbon, is the greatest "green house" gas

3.) the ice caps on mars are melting

4.) The sun goes through cycles and has various "hot spots" which emit greater radiation/ heat, traceable with a sinusoidal function, which, almost perfectly correlates with the same sinusoidal pattern of temperatures recorded on our planet.

5.) These historic temperature patterns have NO SIGNIFICANT CORRELATION with man made carbon output.

6.) The majority of carbon output is naturally occurring (volcanic activity, forest fires, etc...), NOT MAN MADE!

Anyway, back to my point... The science is bad, yet people are generally uniformed, gullible, and easily manipulated by celebrities and dooms day presentations by Al Gore. Large corporations, however, are smart and always looking for a way to make more money from the masses. Add into the equation an inexperienced politician as our president and an overwhelming liberal majority, and its easy to see why corporations such as GE are now so politically involved and in support of "Going Green". The only difference is going green to them is all about the real green, $$$$. Take some time and look into GE's plan to "go green", the political backing they have, and how the gov't plans on forking out billions to GE and similar companies for the transition, and the ENORMOUS profit potential in going green.

Now, I think we all can agree pollution is bad, but please, don't claim a dooms day to push your agenda, because it's not true. EVERYONE, STOPPED BEING BRAINWASHED!!!! PLEASE!!! You can fool some people most of the time, most people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time... so stop being fooled and taken advantage of.
  • That 'Global Thing'
As long as I can still hear crickets, like the ones I hear whenever Al Gore speaks...I chuckle. If ya can't beat 'em, legislate 'em to death! It's even funnier when we have 'global Warming' conferences and protests called off due to cold and snow. The Earth might be changing, but the good news is that the whackjobs won't be around to see how wrong they were. The Weather Channel, champion of the cause, can't get the 48 - 72 hour forecast right most of the time. They're trying to convince us that man is going to ruin the planet? It's like a train wreck with the Left, you kind of know what's coming, you just have to see how bad it can really get!
  • Wait a minute....
has anyone checked the CO2 emissions on Michelle Obama's manure-laden vegetable garden on the White House lawn?
  • SOOOO Reagan-era
Copy typed:"Arguing against pollution controls is SOOOO Reagan-era thinking"

You bet your a#$ it is, you liberal bed-wetter.

    Hail Ronaldus Maximus Reagan!
  • global 'warming'
'Anyone remember back in the 1970s" - copyleft.

Yes. I do. And chicken littles like you were screaming about the coming Ice Age.
  • The New Ice Age
Save A Seal go out and Club A Wealthy Liberal
  • Christy, I think we're "capitalists"
I'm not sure what a "capitolist" is, but I can only assume it's someone who thinks that everything should be mandated and controlled from Washington.

Most "capitalists", on the other hand, don't think that at all.
  • Copyleft
and once again, Copyleft, you show us how much of a bucktooth fool you really are. I love how you use some uncited claim that, somehow, the American people seem to know more than science. Notice how you haven't shown one ounce of evidence that just because they wanted the emission standards in the 70's that it actually made difference on anything? I mean, hey, if it was so fantastic as you claim, then why do we still have global warming today? You can't answer that, because you're too busy eating your boogers you just picked.
  • "Global Warming"
My family and I just got back from Washington D.C. where we spent spring break with our kids. While there we took time to go through the Museum of Natural History. My son and I went into the exhibit of petrified trees and plants.
I saw a display that really caught my eye, it was a map of the United States and it illustrated what it would have looked like X million of years ago. On the map you could see that North/ South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas where completely under water. While the majority of Oklahoma and Texas was under water.
It stated that these areas where, at one time, “Tropical Climates”, this was concluded due to the types of petrified and fossilized plants that where found there. It also stated that the reason these plants are no longer there was due to “CLIMATE CHANGE” or a “COLD” climate to where these plants could not survive, thus, they are no longer found there.
Now, according to science these areas where under water and that they where tropical climates and due to a change in the climate (TURNING COLDER) they are no longer that way. So, does this count as “GLOBAL COOLING” for this time period? That the earth is supposed to be “Tropical” and maybe the earth is returning to its natural state?
I think that those of us with some “COMMON SENSE” can come to this conclusion; the earth, the universe for that matter, is going to do what it wants to, man can not and will not change its course. The only thing that man contributes to the environment is pollution.
Those who feel that man is causing climate change (GLOBAL WARMING) may want to get with these scientist who say that the earth was Warm X millions of years ago so they can come up with a new game plan.
  • Global Warming...
All they will do is hamgstring our economy and the rest of the world will get a pass. Or they will talk the western based societies to go along, but the rest of the world will continue as before without the crippling of their economies.
  • I was thinking
Lets see, global warming brought to you by the same folks that predicted global cooling, the next ice age, that the hole in the ozone was getting bigger and that by the late 1980s or early 1990s life in the sea would be doomed.

Yep, got a track record going there! Not to mention that the guy that started Green Peace quit because the whackos had taken over.

    Just a couple of questions:
    1) FACT-over history the earth has warmed and cooled, ice has come and gone, could this be say, a self fulfilling prophecy?

    2) Just like times passed, flaw data, flawed charts and flawed models, do we not learn from history?

    3) With most of the so called leaders of the movement leaving bigger foot prints then a movie monster, we believe you WHY?

    Just a couple of thoughts.
  • The "environmental movement," was seeded by the KGB.
The other commies just joined their commie buddies on the envirofront. Not everyone in these groups (or even a majority, at least before the post Cold War influx) is a commie, but those who aren't are tools for commies.

Many younger commies don't even know they are parroting marx, lenin and mao, but whatever they call themselves, and whatever words they use, the ideas are the same, so they are all just commies to me.

As for climate change, it's been doing that since we've had one, and it will contunue to change long after we are gone. The only change that worries me is colder, we are about due for another ice age, but I see no way for man change it if it does. The smart thing to do is to adapt to changes, and spread into the solar system. Everything needed to sustain life and industry is out there, if the 'environmentalists' were serious, they would be pushing for that, and the commercialization of the solar system. Unfortunately their primary concern is retarding Western developement and output, not preserving the environment.
  • Global Warming - The Value Added Tax
Obama's initiatives not only create an artificial market for "carbon credits", they become a new way for government to institute a value added tax. For instance, a farmer harvest corn using his farm equipment. This equipment uses fossil fuels; therefore, there is the corn is taxed at the farmer. When the corn is transported to market, it will be taxed again since most train, trucks and ships use fossil fuels. The factory that changes the corn into corn oil is taxed for the electricity it uses, and then the final transport to a distributor is taxed. The taxation continues all the way to the consumer. Every time the good is processed, it will be taxed. Every time the good is moved, it will be taxed. This is nothing but a VAT tax. Is China going to tax it's carbon use? What about India. They aren't looking to regulate carbon, this is just another move to regulate and tax the individual.
  • Global Warming Fraud
This is important: “They” want to tax your production of CO2. Does this mean that CO2 is a problem, and that the control of CO2 is a solution? If NOT, and if (as seems very likely) those at the ROOT of the global warming movement (not necessarily the most visible myrmidons) know it is not, then it’s just your money they are after. CO2 is the tool they use to take your money and control you. Surprise!

Most global warming alarmist do not seem to understand science very well. In particular, they do not understand CO2. They uses the “greenhouse” terminology and the “blanket” analogy as though reification drives reality. In fact, CO2 in the atmosphere does not constitute a greenhouse, since convection is not impeded, as actual glass (but not gas) would do. Neither is it a blanket in the sense that an extra blanket on your bed warms you. Extra CO2 is redundant – there are already enough CO2 molecules to capture nearly every infrared photon in the relevant bandwidth. Imagine a baseball field with 100 outfielders. Most of them would be standing around, and nearly every fly ball is caught. Now make that 200 outfielders.

There are many many other myths about CO2. But, since CO2 is not important in the way it is generally used in the global warming discussion, refuting these myths, while informative and entertaining (and readily available), is basically beside the point.

CO2 is just something to TAX – and, pretend it’s a noble endeavor! It’s a fraud.
  • And Capitolism Cares About You....
...is shown so well by the Clean Air and Water act. Many major polluters decided that it was cheaper to pay fines to pollute greviously than to change their recovery systems. Until a few billion dollars went to settlements that is.

Bottom Line is that I'm a capitolist too and believe in making money for work done. But I'm not delusional enough to believe that any purely money making industry gives a rats patootey about destruction of air, water, land or any future environment when they can get dollars now and pay for the little island they'll live on. NIMBY rules there.

Whether or not climate change is man-made, man enhanced or simply slightly sped up due to our actions isn't the issue really. It is the continuing issue of not having to clean up their messes or potential messes, but make money while creating messes.

The EPA does serve a vital purpose, though it does rankle and have issues like any government agency.

And as for all those who just don't care because they'll be dead...try saying that to your kids' faces. Try walking up to one of the Love Canal kids (now middle aged) still fighting cancer and say you don't care about what you put into their environment.

    Good grief.

The bottom line is that there are indicators of change (though some places get cooler, others hotter and so on) and it isn't that it is happeneing, but that it is happening faster than it should that causes problems, IF it is true. By the time there is enough proof to satisfy everyone, it would be too late.
  • A scam only works if....
the people it's being done to allow it to happen. We just have too many people out there willing to drink the kool-aid on this one and not enough people in power willing to stand up and say it's wrong. On a positive note though, Owl Gore did just loose a few slides in his little fable so maybe the facts will come completely out..... eventually :)
  • Global Warming?
So, we need to prevent Global Warming. In order to do this we need to financially punish certain entities that engage in activities that are deemed to contribute to Global Warming.

On the face of it, this practice makes sense. However, what happens when it is determined that we have entered a period of Global Cooling? Back in the 1970's we were warned of the coming Ice Age.

Recently, news has surfaced that the planet's temperature has actually been in decline over the past few years. Would that mean we should subsidize activities that contribute to Global Warming to fend off the pending ecological disaster of Global Cooling? I doubt it.

If this debate were over science, then each point of view would be predicated on knowledge. Then, and only then, could we seek remedies to any source of ecological damaging activities. Contrast this with what is currently happening and you will determine that the science is inconclusive, yet the remedies have already been determined. This Global Warming crusade is not about science it is clearly about societal control.

The Climate Change "Scientists" have lost credibility by embracing one catastrophe after another. Global Ice Age, Global Warming, Overpopulation, Food Shortages, and Catastrophic Natural Disasters...What's next? I know, how about the world's climate is supposed to be fluctuating, but mankind is inhibiting the natural course of events preventing the normal and essential Warming and Cooling. Sounds like a way to for the government to control behavior.
  • But its for the good of the people!
  • Global Warming
Let's say this Global Warming is man made and actually happening(for the sake of argument). WHY do we continue to verbally bash and punish the U.S.? We have been cleaning up since the mid 70s. We go through tremendous hoops trying to stay clean and "green". How about all you "Green Weenies" out there go have a "sit-in" protest over in China? The Eastern Europeans and Soviets? How about all the other industrialized nations that are polluting their a$$es off without a care in the world? Go protest them!! ( we know why,... they'd get their a$$es shot off) So much for the "Greenie Weenies" true commitment to the cause. At least we are conscious of pollution and attempting to make a difference.
  • Global warming,your friend
I for one would welcome global warming,if it did exist.I have worked outside all my life and have not noticed any substantial difference in the weather patterns. They are always changing but as a climatic overview they are relatively close to what they were back in the 40's & 50's.But having had a career working outside in the winter,I would welcome an overall warmer climate.Hey, you could grow your garden up north for a longer period.Where is the downside for global warming? Wouldn't you love to live in the tropics, really?
  • frenzy
Hurry up, fellow nutjobs! Scientists are seeing signs of global cooling. Time to screw capitalists before they prove the Earth isn't flat!
  • We've heard this before...
I remember when my hairspray had CFC's, but the damn government regulated it. Big deal. Sucks for the makers of CFC's, but good for the makers of compressed inert gasses who quickly developed an alternative propellant. The hole in the ozone layer (yes, that problem actually existed, it was a matter of simple chemistry, not speculation) over the Antarctic started to close back up in the late 80's and 90's from the regulation, and it is no longer an issue. How did that regulation harm us? I live nowhere near those who thrive on coal, so personally, I don't care about that industry. I understand the principle of the Law of Conservation of Energy (that it can be neither created nor destroyed) and that if we're basing our entire infrastructure on a non-renewable resource, that we'll eventually reach the end of the rope. We're the nation that innovates, and honestly, the government is historacally the catalyst for that innovation (through programs such as NASA, and all of the funding for R&D that goes to companies like Boeing, Lockheed, etc..). I think that if our government does not nudge us in an alternate direction, that we'll end up a slave to those nations which can hold their energy reserves over our heads. This isn't a global warming issue, that is just a way to sell it to libs. This is a national security issue, one that takes great foresight, and I support it on that basis. Sometimes the market isn't smart enough to do what is best for itself, and this is the case with energy products.
  • Wow, three comments saying exactly the same thing...
"Global Warming may be true, but I'll be dead by the time it has an effect on me anyway, so who cares?"
People who don't think it's happening at all, okay, I'm with you there. There are plenty of reasons to think that a bunch of sensors which have been running for three years combined with a bunch of old data from sensors we don't use anymore since they seem to be wildly inaccurate, produce a result which could also be wildly inaccurate. Fine.

And people who think it's happening, but point out that the Earth goes through various cycles, and we have much more evidence about the long-term cycles than we do about the short-term transitions within them, alright, it may have nothing to do with man's doing things, overall. That's fine too.

But here are people saying "Okay, you could both be right, but it's not /my/ problem, I'll be dead by then!".. wtf is wrong with you? Either accept that you have an impact and do something about it, or don't accept that you have an impact and continue to do nothing by virtue of not being able to. "I could change things, but I don't care what happens if I'm not personally experiencing it" is just.. stupid.
  • Really stretchng it this time
Anyone remember back in the 1970s, when the Clean Air & Water acts were passed? All the business lobbyists were making these same cries of outrage, using Neal's exact words: "Any attempt to limit pollution will mean DISASTER for business!"

And guess what? America told them to shut up and deal with it... and they did. Arguing against pollution controls is SOOOO Reagan-era thinking, Boortz. Try to convince people they should be outraged about attempts to monitor airborne toxins around schoolchildren, for example...

Oh, wait. You already did that one.
  • Global Warming
Listen up greenies. You need to get a grip. You need to return global warming to the status of a SCIENTIFIC question, instead of treating it as a political crusade, or a religious one. The truth about warming is getting out. There is very much a debate about how much human activity has to do with the slight warming that was seen between the 1970's and 1998, WHEN THE EARTH STOPPED WARMING. Seriously, the "warmers" sound about as smart and logical as the fictional B-movie south sea islanders who think they can plug their local volcano with a couple of virgins. Follow me here. This will lead to pretty much the entire environment movement being discredited, and the next time the greenies actually come up with a good idea (e.g. "Hey, what if we don't actually wipe out ALL the whales?") they will be dismissed as the same nutcases who tried to take over the world to prevent a fictional disaster.
  • A good thing?
Neal, let me get this straight. If we subject the porkulus spending projects to environmental review, we might be able to shut them down? Is Bill Kovacs (unintentionally) saying the enviro-nazis might be doing us a favor? :)
  • 'global warming'
Well,if anAL GOREtentive and the knuckleheads at EPA are serious about this, then they should all do the honorable thing...sell their cars and kill themselves
  • GlowBall Warming
If 'Teh One' is sooooo smart, you would think he would suspend all EPA rules and regulations until the economy gets back in line. The answer is simple, 'Teh One' isn't really interested in fixing the economy to restore it, he is more concerned about expanding government influence and the EPA(which is unconstitutional to begin with) will have its tentacles into everyone's life.
  • No, Tim...
Sorry, Tim. You lose. It doesn't work that way. You don't get to imagine what you think global warming means, and then toss it out because your imagined effects have not already come to pass.

If you really want to die, there are ways to do it. Wishing it would happen to everyone because you don't want to deal with it is truly one of the wackiest ideas ever to be presented at this site.
  • Re: global warming fallacy
I am tired of hearing about this nonsense about global warming. Just because someone's kid had their snowman melt a week earlier than it did last year, does not mean the world is getting warmer. If global warming existed, none of us would be around long enough to worry about it anyway. I think these nutcases should think about this. What are they going to do in 100 billion years when the suns dies out and expands and swallows up all the inner planets. Shouldn't they be warning us about that by now? 100 billion years will come quick. You know I wish global warming were true so I could stand on top of those quacks when the planet cooks us all so they go before I do.
  • The Real Co2 Agenda
There is no aspect of your life, from the moment you are conceived until long after you’re dead and buried that does not involve converting matter into CO2. Once government bureaucracies gets the power to regulate the emission of CO2, there will be absolutely no activity that you partake in life that will not be subject to regulation by people you’ve never seen, heard of, or voted for. Sure, today they talk about regulating politically-incorrect activities such as running coal-fired power plants, owning SUVs and jetting off to the Bahamas. But once those carbon-spewing evils are vanquished, what will be next? Carbon taxes will be used to extract wealth from those who were told they wouldn’t be paying more taxes. Next will be burgers at McDonalds, and then centralized control of your home thermostat. Sooner or later, they will work their way down to either some activity that you enjoy in your life, or worse, some activity that represents your livelihood. Nothing you do in your live will be safe from government control.
  • Re: global warming nutcases
I am so tired of hearing about the fallacy of global warming. Even if it were true, no one who actually cares about will be around when it effects us anyway. I wish it were true so that the planet would cook us all in order to avoid listening to those nutcases about this farse. I tell you what I wish for global warming every winter. People need to realize that this is not an issue and more important topics are available to complain about.
  • Without regulation...
...we would have worse pollution in our lakes, rivers, and ocean shores. That much has been demonstrated through the history of this nation. We also have businesses that would lie about it, so it isn't just a matter of letting market forces decide if pollution is good or bad. The only way we can accomplish these things w/o regulation is if everyone decides to honest and spend the time to understand the science. If you aren't willing to do both, then you lose the chance to handle it yourself.
  • Re: Global warming
I am so sick of this global warming thing. Even it if were true, none of us will be around to see it anyway. If global warming was really so bad, shouldn't the ocean be at least up to our knees by now for those of us on the east coast? I wish the planet would bake us all away so we can stop hearing about this nonsense.
