Thomas Sowell's column: "A Rookie President." Sowell says: "We now have a rookie President of the United States and, in the dangerous world we live in, with terrorist nations going nuclear, just one rookie mistake can bring disaster down on this generation and generations yet to come."

Apparently the New York Times "killed" a story that would have shown a close link between ACORN, Project Vote and the Obama campaign because it would have been a "a game changer" during the election. I'm shocked.

How are the Democrats planning to pay for healthcare reform? By imposing new energy taxes! New taxes? Now there's a novel idea!

Experts say that Barack Obama needs to be more mindful of his gaffes, as they will quickly erode his popularity.

Left-wing redistributionists seize the moment.

Congress is upset that they weren't consulted by Barack Obama about what to do with GM CEO Rick Wagoner.

Let the fighting in Washington begin over who is going to be in charge of setting up a carbon market. This is going to be one of the biggest government boondoggles of all time ... it will make Social Security look like hopscotch.

Our Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has delayed a series of proposed immigration raids lately. Is this a sign of things to come?

The Senate Minority Leader says that Obama's policies will lead to an "explosion of government" that the country didn't expect when they voted him into office .. was Mitch McConnell watching the same election? Because this is exactly what I thought Obama would do.

KFC wants to pay to repave the nation's potholes. But Chicago has already said no because it doesn't want advertising to appear on a city street or sidewalk. God save us from any private sector role!

Florida is offering discount cards to try and promote local business and boost the state's economy.

California wants to ban plasma televisions that use too much energy.

In case you didn't know ... Barack Obama believes that North Dakota is experiencing flooding right now because of global warming. Hey .. he has a massive new government revenue program called "Carbon tax-and-trade" to sell.

Did you hear about the bright lights in the eastern sky over the weekend?

According to a new study, shoppers are less likely to spend money if they are carrying cash in large denominations. That's why I only carry twenties.

I think we need more mayors like this 88-year-old spring chicken from Canada.

A British university is offering a master's degree in Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

What others are saying

  • ACORN
I aplogize because I can't listen everyday but has Neal covered the fact that ACORN has been selected as a 'National Partner' to help select volunteers for the census? That's kind of like putting Octomom in charge of birth control counseling.
  • Large bills
The sad thing is Neal is that a 20 IS a large bill to me!
  • Dakota Flooding and Global Warming
Let me see if I have this straight --- flooding caused by snow melt following a very cold winter with lots of blizzards is a sure sign of global warming? The flood pics I've seen show snow on the ground and people bundled up in early spring. Yup! It MUST be global warming!
  • Acorn and obozo
Interesting... we are going to hear more about this... Violating Federal Election law is a federal crime. I wonder if anyone will investigate who knew what when???

I'd like to see obozo be held accountable for this community organizing of tapped out donors.
  • Hazel the Mayor
That was one of the most inspirational things I have ever seen! Who'd a thunk it? An honest politician! With NO debt in her city and 700 million in reserve??? Can we say she's from Hawaii and have her run for President? With Daniel Hannan as VP (of course, we'll have to say he's from Hawaii, too). Now THAT would be some change I could believe in!

and wow...88 yrs old and still playing hockey. Hot damn, I want to be like her when I grow up. Mayor Hazel, you are an inspiration and a breath of fresh air.
  • Leave it at this
We are both opinionated. You have a point that experience never guarantees success.

But I cannot think of a case where inexperience has ever proven reliable either. Ahhh, politics...
  • KFC Fixing Potholes
I wonder if this is even legal.

Although cities are sorely in need of funding and people would probably appreciate having the potholes fixed, isn't roadwork usually a union protected job for most (if not all) cities?

I don't think the unions would look kindly on KFC 'stealing' their work.
  • Experience is relative ...
Copyright is correct is you believe experience always leads to better decision making.

The newly unemployed CEO of GM had 30+ yrs experience and couldn't right a sinking ship.

President Bush had just under six years of executive gubernatorial experience ... Its safe to say he made some mistakes in his presidency. Even in the first 100 days ...

    Experience is all relative ...
  • Alan is right...
Based on his definition: having actually been in office; but Sowell is pointing out that Obama is a rookie in all fields and every sense of the word.
Most presidents, he points out have served as governors, as generals, as Senators (for longer than a year), or as military men.
Obama is wet behind the ears no matter how you slice it.
If graduating from college with a law degree is the only prerequisite for presidency well I fear for this nation (except half of the graduates here are lawyers anyway so maybe it is appropriate).
  • Rookie Presidents
    Allow me to correct myself,
Every President we have ever had, save one, has been a rookie president.

    Who is the exception?

President Cleveland served non-consecutive terms - ergo he is the only president ever to know the job before serving.
  • Washington was a rookie President
Every President has been a rookie President ... that's the system our fore-fathers handed us ...
  • Census
Why does the government need to know all of this personal information? Something's fishy in Denmark!
  • college
Hey, why not? Some college out west is offering classes on a video game.
  • Awww, Congress is upset because ...
His royal high nass, King Barack the First didn't ask Congress "may I sack the CEO of GM". Waaaaaaa! Meanwhile, Congress hasn't read the constitution, doesn't know the constitution, can't figure out that Congress is supposed to write the law and King Barack is supposed to follow the law.

ARE THESE REALLY THE BEST POLITICIANS MONEY CAN BUY?

Boy, did we get the short (and dirty) end of the stick or what?
  • Vote for Hazel!
Mayor for 31 years, 88, plays hockey ...
and a lot smarter than any of the knuckleheads we've elected to put in an orifice today.
  • Congress not consulted on Waggoner firing
First time I've had any respect for Carl Levin in a very long time.

Just a question - doesn't congress have to authorize this spending? If they are that up in arms they need to grow a spine and vote against more money to any company if they think the president is being too heavy handed.
  • Master's Degree in Facebook et al
Remember the root of "Twitter" is twit. Posting comments here is far more intellectual and important than anything I could do on those sites.
  • Plasma TVs
You know what's really cool about both Plasma and LCD TVs? Both use less energy than the old CRT-types!

Yes, that's right, if you replace your bulky old TV with a much larger flat-screen plasma, you can still use less energy!

But of course there will be no punishment for having the old CRT TVs, because "the poor" are more likely to have one, and . . . . you know the rest.
  • Hazel McCallion
Wow. What a great piece on Hazel McCallion, mayor of Mississauga, ONT. We need more leaders like her, not just because she does the job with a balanced budget, BUT because her can-do, positive, loving spirit has spread throughout the city.

THAT'S real leadership! And as an American with 50% Canadian blood in him, I'm bustin'!

    You go girl!

  • carbon market
Neil, if your term boondoggle means scam, you are correct. but unlike ss, there will be a few private businesses that will do well in the carbon "market". A little research indicates some of this "market" is in place in our state now through local EMC's as a voluntary project. However, as soon as the Fed makes cap and trade law, guess who will be paying. I'm not sure if "market" is the correct term for something forced upon you.
  • Rookie president
Thomas Sowell has been calling these shots perfectly. It's disturbingly refreshing to see people begin to notice the sheen wearing off the chosen one and see him for what he really is (and I hate saying that about the president but it's the truth, also call it reciprocation for the last 8 years).

Even more disturbing is that this is one of Sowell's more upbeat articles about our current fearless leader, which shows just how little confidence he really has in Obama.

On the gaffes: The One seems to be in quite a quandry. If he uses the prompter, he is ridiculed for his pre-packaged and stale deliveries, if he does not, he is more clumsy than a falling-over drunk W.
  • New York Times
It should be hardly surprising that the NYT would spike a story critical of the Big O.... what's surprising is that anyone thought it would have made a difference. They could have published a story proving he ate babies for breakfast and the masses would have still voted for him. The lefties would dismiss this sort of story as simply "the way politics is done" and claim the Republicans do the same thing.
  • New York New York
You know it's bad when Rush leaves.
  • heck with it
there are just so many things in this list that make me sick, I'm just not even going to try, America, it was good to know you
  • Obama and inexperience
I work in a unionized shop and 2 months ago if you said any negative comments about obama it would have got a response, Now even the missdirected supporters are fed up with him.
