This morning, Obama will announce that he is sending more troops to Afghanistan.

Some Republicans are having buyer's remorse over their votes last week in favor of the AIG bonus taxes. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin says that he would have voted against it if he had known it was unconstitutional. Oh, that's just wonderful. What do you think those aids you have swarming around your office are for?

Not sure why this is coming back into the news, but Rahm Emanuel made $320,000 serving two years on the board of Freddie Mac.

Here's a little preview of nationalized health care. You're begging for it .. here is what you are going to get.

Is it possible to already have a 'vintage Obama'? The guy has only been in office something like 70 days.

You may not have realized this, but if you're white .. especially if you have blue eyes ... then you are the cause of our worldwide economic problems. Clearly you (my eyes are hazel) need to pony up all of the money necessary to solve this problem.

We have a mall in the Atlanta area that has banned teenagers on weekend nights. Wanna hang at the mall? Take yo momma.

The United Nations is now onboard with the idea of a global currency. But Rep. Michele Bachmann has already proposed a bill that would "bar the dollar from being replace by any foreign currency."

Private Swiss banks are banning their executives from traveling abroad because they are worried that they will be detained as part of a global crackdown on bank secrecy.

Barney Frank is concerned about the about the Federal Reserve's emergency powers? Are we talking about the same Barney Frank who is more responsible than any other living human being for the mess we're in right now?

Puppies and kitties cause about 86,000 falls a year. Time to put OSHA in charge of these furry little critters.

The Los Angeles city council is working on a package of tax incentives to keep film and TV productions in Los Angeles. Hollywood wants everyone ELSE to pay their fair share ... certainly not us.

American farmers are urging Barack Obama to make carbon a cash crop under the guise of global warming.

We know that any project funded by the economic stimulus plan is beholden to wage requirements. What is this going to do? Drive up prices for these projects and cost the taxpayers more money!

The Obama administration is going to force automakers to restructure their companies before receiving any more bailout money.

According to a Rasmussen poll, 66% of Americans believe that Barack Obama will raise taxes on people earning less than $250,000 a year. Well, he has to pay for his dreams and schemes somehow, doesn't he?

Have you heard about this Serve America Act? Apparently it will do nothing more than add more Americans to the government dole. Let's get these kids used to serving the government interest as quickly as we can.

More cities are considering imposing criminal penalties on kids who are out in public when they should be in school. Can anyone please explain to me how this is Constitutional? Yeah, didn't think so.

This is what Great Britain considers a good use of tax dollars .. spending $6,000 to help relatives contact the dead.

A teen-skank has been charged with child pornography for posting nude pictures of herself on the Internet.

What others are saying

  • Global Currency
That story is a myth; it's about building world reserves out of something other than the dollar since the Dems seem determined to wreck it.

You may now climb back into your black helicopter.
  • buyers remorse
I think all the congressmen that voted for HR 1856 should be drawn and quartered. They swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the united states. I believe they have violated that oath. (which in the military, that considered treason?)
  • Nationalized Health Care
Yet another example of the disaster that is socialized medicine/nationalized health care (whichever phrase you want to use). But bring the article to light really doesn't matter. The American people, by far and large, are too stupid and lazy to see what is so plainly evident. It is extremely frustrating to live in a country where being willing to work and wanting the government to get the hell out of your life puts you in a small minority.
  • Rep. Paul Ryan
...says that he would have voted against the AIG bonus tax if he had known it was unconstitutional. WTF! Where is Donald Trump, “You’re Fired!’ You didn’t read the freaking contract before you took the job Paul.
  • Just goes to show that not all Republicans are familiar with the Constitution...
Like I've been saying.. both sides are guilty of selling out our rights to buy votes. Though, to be fair, he was only representing his constituency, which in all likelihood doesn’t realize that taxing those bonuses in an unequally apportioned tax is unconstitutional.
  • Ameri-Corp
i have this sbeaking suspicicion that Obama want to make this type of service mandatory for every American. The incentive? Serve or be penalized with higher taxes.
  • Agreeing with Betty
What kind of excuse is, "Now, that I know — which I didn't at the time — that this is unconstitutional, I wouldn't have voted the same way." ?

Is anyone accepting this? Is this supposed to make us all feel better?

    This is beyond shameful...
  • Carbon Farming!!!!
"I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!"
I can think of no quicker way to cause a food shortage, well...other than turning food into fuel, but that's another story...

By the way, I have blue eyes. Does that make me evil?
  • The news leads are always fun to comment on.
To the sorry Republicans who voted for the bonus tax, what good is remorse if you learn nothing from your mistakes? Show us you learned.
The reason rahm’s $320,000 is in the news is because it sounds much better than the $18,000,000 he actually got from AIG.
Vintage obama? It’s right next to the MD 20/20 and nighttrain.
As a “blue-eyed devil,” I’m used to having to shoulder blame that’s not mine, but when do we get to claim some of the credit for the good?
Re private Swiss banks, does anyone really still think their ‘escape plan’ money is safe wherever they put it?
Yea, I want see OSHA come try and mess with my mutt and tell her where she can lay. I’ll make popcorn. That will end almost as badly for them, as it would for the GOP if they tried to get in my bedroom. Then they’d also cross THE b*tch - her term - and she’s got claws and a .357 to go with her shiny teeth and 90lbs of bad attitude). That CDC warning hook isn’t good for the Mothership’s credibility with me though. Yall pull cr*p like that too often, yall can hook cleaner than that.
Carbon a cash crop? The pyros are exited. Tagging CO2 as a pollutant should erase any doubt the environuts are not only off their rocker, but clueless as well. You’d think tree huggers would know better.
  • Last one, promise!
    On carbon farming.

Next up, moisture farms! "Uncle Owen? Aunt Beru?"
  • Cat's Journal
DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.
  • Vintage Obama
Aren't cheap wines only aged a year or two?
  • Mandatory Medical Licensing
I think that the blame for extremely high healthcare costs rests with the medical community, under the guise of public safety. They fight to criminalize anyone that is practicing medicine without a license. The reason for doing so is to limit the amount of professionals that are allowed to enter the field, thus increasing demand, and greatly increasing the amount they can charge for their services. This is not capitalism. It is a monopoly. The solution is to get rid of MANDATORY licensing. Keep voluntary licensing and allow patients decide whether or not they want to see a licensed physician. For those that worry about the children, then fine, keep it a law that they see a licensed physician. For all others that are old enough to make up their own minds, let them decide. Physicians argue that the reason why they have the big house on the hill is because of all of the years of education. This is simply not true. It is because they used the power of the government to get rid of the competition.
  • Pounds! Tax pounds!
Are you auditioning for white-house gift co-ordinator?
  • Betty
and they should have to be quizzed on it as well.
  • IDIOTS
What the hell are you talking about Neal with Obama raising taxes??? When are you going to realize that we are already taxed over everything in the form of INFLATION??? To quote G. Edward Griffin in his book, "The Creature from Jekyll Island", he says that inflation which is caused by The Federal Reserve is the countries most unfair tax, because it allows Congress to spend without us even knowing we're being taxed.
  • Nationalized health care
I would like to remind Neal that Romney is the man he supported for President...
  • Rahm Emanuel
Followed the link to read about "Rahm-bo." Then was driven by curiosity to find out more about his background, especially education.
Wikopedia has its uses for quick reference, but it's Wikopedia. Not exactly something to be cited as absolute truth.
Apparently, Bob Secter and Andrew Zajac, the reporters for the LA Times whose article is linked, use Wikopedia to copy/paste and submit their articles.
I don't want to see newspapers disappear. Who wants to have to rely solely on ABC/NBC/CBS, CNN, FoxNews, et al, for their information? Just look at them.
But copy/paste directly off the Wikopedia site does not inspire confidence in the print media either.
  • Constitution
There should be a law that everyone who is elected to congress should have to read the Constitution and every bill they vote on.
  • GOP Buyers Remorse
-Having to keep a hat on to hold my hair down these days with all the shocking statements coming out of DC. Gloriosky...the concept that we're sending representatives to run the government who can't even tell when the laws they're voting for are unconsitutional!
  • Buyers Remorse
YGTBSM... Someone in Congress that didn't know it was unconstitutional!!!!
  • "Blue Eyes" causing global economic crisis
Take up the White Man's burden—
Send forth the best ye breed—
Go, bind your sons to exile
    To serve your captives' need;
    To wait, in heavy harness,
    On fluttered folk and wild—
    Your new-caught sullen peoples,
    Half devil and half child.

Take up the White Man's burden—
    In patience to abide,
To veil the threat of terror
    And check the show of pride;
    By open speech and simple,
    An hundred times made plain,
    To seek another's profit
    And work another's gain.

Take up the White Man's burden—
    The savage wars of peace—
Fill full the mouth of Famine,
    And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest
    (The end for others sought)
    Watch sloth and heathen folly
Bring all your hope to nought.

Take up the White Man's burden—
    No iron rule of kings,
But toil of serf and sweeper—
    The tale of common things.
The ports ye shall not enter,
The roads ye shall not tread,
Go, make them with your living
And mark them with your dead.

Take up the White Man's burden,
    And reap his old reward—
The blame of those ye better
The hate of those ye guard—
The cry of hosts ye humour
    (Ah, slowly!) toward the light:—
"Why brought ye us from bondage,
    Our loved Egyptian night?"

Take up the White Man's burden—
Ye dare not stoop to less—
Nor call too loud on Freedom
    To cloak your weariness.
By all ye will or whisper,
By all ye leave or do,
    The silent sullen peoples
Shall weigh your God and you.

Take up the White Man's burden!
    Have done with childish days—
    The lightly-proffered laurel,
    The easy ungrudged praise:
Comes now, to search your manhood
    Through all the thankless years,
    Cold, edged with dear-bought wisdom,
    The judgment of your peers.
    --R. Kipling
  • AIG Bonuses
Are you kidding? The Republicans, either as a party or a caucus or individuals, didn't conduct research to see if the AIG bonus taxation bill was even constitutional??
This floors me. You'd think if ONE was told it was unconstitutional they would have shared the findings!
And the guy who flips is the head Republican on the Budget committee??
    I am ashamed of Congress.
  • Curfew
I'm a bit ambivalent about this one. So many parents who claim to homeschool are really simply abrogating any responsiblity by claiming "unschooling" and doing nothing. If they are valid field trips or the like, then the parent or other adult would be with them and the problem is solved. I see way too many truly unruly youngsters getting up to trouble to have any issue with requiring they be supervised.

After all, it is the parents job, not some substituted government agency, to supervise children until they are responsible adults. Making a law that holds a parent financially responsible for not supervising isn't all bad.

At the same time, for those who do truly homeschool, I understand their fear that taken to extremes, they could wind up ticketed for having recess in their yard for their children.
  • troups for afganistan
I read they are not 'troops' but 'advisers'.

I'm showing my age here but that's what our soldiers were initially called in a place in South East Asia
  • Nationalized Health Care
Ok, that article gave me a headache, geez. Oh and I think Romney can forget running for president with that baggage.
  • Puppies and Kitties
I think the risk of accidents is valid.
I make my coffee and go downstairs early in the morning and there is always a cat on the steps. I have stepped on that little SOB many times resulting in me falling and spilling hot coffee all over myself inflicting serious bodily injury, scalding burns, and much pain and suffering.
I turn on the light to see and my wife turns it off to save the 20 watts until the sun comes up.
I just need to step more carefully in the future to try and break his neck.
  • Daytime Truancy Curfews
Sorry, Neal, but I have to disagree with you on this issue. There's nothing unconstitutional per se about the idea of a daytime curfew with criminal penalties. States have the right to require children to attend school during certain hours. They also have the right to regulate home schooling by parents. The right to regulate school attendance inherently includes the right to enforce those regulations -- with criminal sanctions if necessary.

The only constitutional problem I can see would be a curfew law that was either unreasonably broad, unreasonably vague, unreasonably punitive, or any combination thereof.

Of course, just because something is constitutional doesn't necessarily mean it's practical or effective -- and I do agree that daytime curfews are not as effective as some supporters suggest.
  • rasmussen poll
Inside the article about the rasmussen poll there was a line that read, "51 percent of people think raising taxes on people earning more than 250K will be good for the economy". Yeah, I would really like to see my boss, the guy that signs my paycheck, to have less money. Makes sense to me.....
    note sarcastic tone.
  • Afghanistan
I was lunching with a long time Marine yesterday and his experienced opinion is that Afghanistan will turn out, or is turning out to be another Viet Nam.
We won't ever win but will end up just giving up sooner or later.
