Jonah Goldberg on never letting a good crisis go to waste.

In 2008, US household wealth fell by over $11 trillion. Here's an idea. These people haven't been punished enough. Let's increase their taxes and let the government take whatever they have left.

The CEO of Blackstone says that 45% of the world's wealth has been destroyed by this financial crisis.

The honeymoon is fading quickly .. which means that the Obama administration has to work even faster to get its agenda passed before it's too late.

Barack Obama's tax policies are going to turn Silicon Valley into a ghost town. How is that? By increasing taxes on the achievers. Let's kill innovation for the sake of government power.

The Senate still has to have its way with this "cramdown bill" and it looks like we may have a vote on it this month. Look for the interest rates on new mortgages to go up as soon as these ignoranuses pass this thing.

Some politicians, including Republicans, are actually starting to feel sorry for Timothy Geithner. No way. The guy is a tax cheat - a willful and conscious tax cheat. If he can't handle the job, find someone who can.

Obama's third pick for Deputy Treasury Secretary has officially withdrawn his name from the candidate pool. That's his third pick in just one week, by the way.

Freddie Mac is going to tap into another $30.8 billion in taxpayer dollars.

Some governors like Rick Perry of Texas rejected some of the federal stimulus money for unemployment because it would require a change in the state's definition of unemployment.

Obama is going to be the first president since Grover Cleveland to miss the annual Gridiron Dinner. Not much of a jock sniffer, I guess. Maybe if they could just make hammering high-achievers a sport. Wait! It already is.

Utah's solution to budget woes .. put a tax on caffeine. I know it's hard to believe, but I drink decaf.

What would Bernie Madoff's punishment be if he lived in countries without our judicial system? I rather like the idea of hanging him by his ........ oh hell, never mind.

With all that is happening in the world today, the House of Representatives took a moment yesterday to recognize pi. Pi is pleased.

How come we never heard about this guy trying to build a dirty bomb in Maine last year?

Atlas Shrugged updated for the financial crisis? WTH?

What others are saying

  • Caffeine tax
First, the LDS church says you shouldn't drink caffeine, not that you can't. Just because some people exercise their freedom to avoid something doesn't mean they don't have a choice.
Second, Neal say's he drinks decaf. Then he must inject the real stuff directly into his heart. (How do we know he has a heart? He has a papillon.)
  • Pi
Ok, I'm a math nerd. I use pi more than I eat pie. At least the HOR is finally wasting their time (and my tax $$) recognizing something I can actually support.
  • annual Gridiron Dinner
It's obvious to me why Obama doesn't want to go to the annual Gridiron Dinner.

No Kobe' beef, and as someone already said, teleprompters would look silly.

I almost got a giggle today, though, so that's a good way to start a weekend.
  • dirty bomb
This guy was a loser who inherited some money and watched V for Vendetta one too many times. This is such a non-story.
And Ezun, you can stop whining about how this was not muslim related and therefore not covered by the kooks in the media. I've seen them suppress plenty of information that related to muslim involvement in plenty of stories over the years since 9-11. And on the contrary, they are the first to trumpet any involvement of the right in anything they can. This article gave this guy up as an American in the first sentence! If he had been muslim I seriously doubt that would have been mentioned at all. Don't you worry, though, we'll be hearing from muslims soon enough (it'll sound like a boom, okay?). And once again, the media will do everything they can to leave religious or ethnic involvement out for as long as they can.
As Chef Ramsey would say - now piss off!
  • Timothy Gaitner
I heard a local talk show host refer to him as TurboTax Timmy. I thought that was pretty funny.
  • Obama and Mugabe Economics
Patterning his vision after that of Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Obama continues to pursue a policy of driving all productive citizens out of business and printing money by the truckload to pay for phantom "job creation programs" that fatten the pockets of crony sycophants like Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Now that's change we can believe in.
  • Caffine Tax
chris13, would your question be like in a state full of Southern Baptist the government does not allow the sale of beer and wine at grocery stores on a Sunday? Religious implications?
  • Investment bomber
I just can't quite grasp how a guy smart enough to amass a trust earning $10M/year and not blow it on flashy cars or whatnot, can't open a college chemistry text and find U238 and Thorium aren't radioactive enough to harm you. Well, maybe if you snorted the Thorium. Or dropped an ingot of U238 on your foot.
  • The guy in Maine
We never heard about the dirty bomb case because he wasn't muslim, foreign, or leftist. The media is extremely hesitant to report on right wing terrorism. Probably because a lot of the Republicans sympathize with right wing terrorists at home and abroad.

We should all remember prominent Republicans, including their favorite president, have directly aided terrorists groups, including Islamic extremists.

A lot of big time Republicans, like Erik Prince of Blackwater (the paramilitary group), have had significant dealings with domestic extremist groups as well.

In addition, many prominent Southern politicians, including Trent Lott, and a number of other governors and representatives, have participated with the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens by delivering speeches at their convention. Mike Huckabee did as well, but by videotape due to scheduling, and he later seems to have decided he won't do it again because of their racism. He would've had to be a total idiot or completely irresponsbile to not realize they were a racist group the first time around, though. They don't hide it.

That's not to mention the general hatred of homosexuals and immigrants, among other groups, that the Republican party condones. We've had a Senator declare proudly that he had no gays in his family, on the Senate floor. We've also had a Senator say we should execute doctors who perform abortions. Are we expected to believe he doesn't strongly sympathize with abortion clinic bombers?

And then there's people like Huckabee saying we need to rewrite the Constitution to match the Bible, and not being too far from being nominated. If you don't think that made more than a few domestic terrorists' day, you're fooling yourself.

Plus, these right wing extremists have more guns than anybody, and Republicans think they have a right to possess assault weapons.

From what I've read, the likelihood of him successfully making a dirty bomb was slim, but if he had been a muslim, we would have three weeks of nonstop coverage plus a thousand press conferences and discussions of combatting the dirty bomb threat, and more than a few Republican congressmen suggesting we pursue arbitrary military action.

The police never even got wind of this till his wife shot him after years of abuse.

And take note, this Nazi scumbag wasn't a loser; he was very rich, and that does not make him unique among our domestic right wing terrorists.
  • I like...
    pie...

    Oh, wrong pie
  • tax on caffine???
Utah, a state chock full of people who belong to a religion that says you cannot have caffine, is going to tax caffine???????
    Is there something I'm missing?
  • Gridiron Club
Just to clear things up about the Gridiron Club.
    1. Obama is a supporter of the teacher’s unions; he is taking spring break off.
    2. He is not running for election and therefore does not need to be in the spotlight.
    3. A room full of journalists, one of them might actually ask a real question.
    4. Silly skits, he has moved beyond that now his administration has become the silly skit.
    5. Send Joe, well old Joe and his gaffes has become a national joke, so why not.
  • Timothy Geithner
If this guy was REALLY smart, he wouldn't have gotten caught.
  • Recognizing Pi
They finally found something to do that they were actually qualified to do. Can we hope that they will stay with picking national plants, animals, and other totally inane things? That would let the rest of us get on with achieving.
  • Gridiron Dinner
It is obvious why he is missing this dinner. I firmly believe it is because, if you look at the format and setup of this dinner in the past, it is not a place you can bring teleprompters. You can, but it would look unbelievably awkward!

That is why I think he didn't have a formal press conference with PM Brown last week. Think about the setup. You have the President and the PM standing at 2 podiums side by side a few feet apart. Now imagine if Obozo put teleprompters on his podium! How pathetic would it look with the PM standing next to him?? How pathetic would, what is supposed to be a personal exchange, look when Obozo's head is going left and right reading the prompter while never making eye contact with the PM. This dolt is a disgrace.
  • Dirty Bomb
Uranium 238 and Thorium 232 are legal to possess and are used in a wide variety of industrial applications. They would make for a very poor dirty bomb. They pose roughly the same health risks as any other heavy metal. Because they are so stable the amount of radiation they emit is negligible. In order to make an effective dirty bomb you really need to have high level radioactive waste. You can make this in a small fast breeder reactor, alla David Hahn, or you need to steal it. Either way, you would stand a good chance of killing yourself, before you ever got to building a bomb.
  • Madoff
Here's how you punish madoff. Make him work at minimum wage for the rest of his life. If he's going to take advantage of the capitalist system, he can spend his life living like a communist.
  • Pi day
I told my liberal girlfriend that it's ok for her to be irrational tomorrow.

    She didn't get it.
  • Gridiron club
Isn't the Gridiron club a club for journalists? I don't think it has anything to do with jocks, Neal!
  • Officially Withdrawn His Name
I'll bet a hamburger and coke that very soon now the Dems will want to ease up on the vetting process so the BigO can fill his administration. They will say it's just not fair to put anyone through such rigorous checks (just to hold a high office in the admin. of our nation...)
  • With my Apologies
Congress's decision to celebrate pi in the midst of what is happening is irrational!
[sorry, somebody had to get that out of the way]
  • Termianlly ill kid who can't take time off.
The parents should take him on that trip and tell the school that their son will be available for his in-house suspension immediately following his funeral.
  • Dirty Bomb
He bought depleted uranium (some will need to look this up) over the internet? Did he tell them he needed it for armor piercing rounds to use on up-armored deer?
