RACISM BROUHAHA HERE IN GEORGIA

Here in Atlanta, Georgia, home of the Mothership News/Talk 750 WSB, we have some racial chips on some shoulders in the state government. On Friday, about two dozen black Georgia lawmakers apparently stormed out of the Georgia House. They did so because they were angry that a white Congressman blocked a proposal to make Barack Obama an honorary member of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

State Representative Austin Scott says that he blocked the proposal because the wording would have put the full chamber on the record and it declared Obama as a man with an "unimpeachable reputation for integrity." After Democrats balked at revising the wording, Scott blocked the proposal.

But naturally, this automatically turned into an issue of race. Some black lawmakers saw this as a snub to the nation's first black president. State Representative Al Williams says, "It drips with racism .. I call it just like it is." Al Williams is an idiot who couldn't define the word "racism" if his per diem depended on it, and it doesn't.

There are still some backward minds out there who think that any amount of "disrespect" (to use the vernacular) shown PrezBO is evidence of racism. Unfortunately this one is in my back yard.

You're making my point for me. Your comments have nothing to do with what happened in the Georgia House. You're just using this website, hiding behind this website is more like it, to say "screw the blacks." I have a thing or two I could say about black on white bigotry but I didn't think it would be appropriate for this thread. I also have a thing or two I could say about white on black bigotry. And I still think you're being a coward, walk up to a black person on the street and tell them how you really feel...let me know how that works out for ya.
  • Jeremy
Cowardly?? No, what's cowardly is to keep our mouths shut for decades, which is what we've been doing. The black population finally gets their black president and achieve the highest office of the land. They don't have any more legs to stand on. All racist remarks are about 98% coming from the blacks who whine day in, and day out, about how they are being denied this and denied that. They can get the hell over it, because as far as I'm concerned, they are irrelevant.
  • Hugo's Ghost
    Awwww, are you crying again?
  • Im just curious...why is there no White Caucus?
  • This is not just typical GA Gob'ment. This is typical BLACK GOB'MET. Always wanting to throw the race card. News tip, you werent a slave and I doubt your parents or grandparents were either. There were white slaves throughout history as well. Shut the hell up, do your job, and then go home.
  • Reparations?
Damifino said: "I belive that with a semi-black president, with arab and african roots in both sides of the slave trade, that the subject of black reparations can be addressed again. Although I'm personally against it because my ancestors never owned slaves(and I also have some possible black ancestors so I could be line for cash myself)I would be for reparations if it was agreed that this would settle the issue FOR ALL TIME and criminal prosecution would be in store for anyone making an issue of it again(maybe make it a hate crime). I'm sick to death of hearing about it."

NO. Drop the silly reparation thing. My family has been middle-class through and through, and never owned slaves either. I suppose we're double-damned since a number of headstones in the family plot have the old CSA cross on them, though.

    I owe these people nothing.

But I'll be happy to apologize to every african-american I meet, and hand each one of them a dollar of my hard-earned money, IF AND ONLY IF the countries in Africa whose ancestors originally sold them over here into slavery have to apologize and pay up as well.

It's been apparent for some time now this racism business isn't being kept alive by the people they want you to think it is.
  • hey, Web Wench, can you add 'representative' in fromt of that clown's name?

You see, it's also MY name, and i hate seeing MY name and the rest of it behind it.... LOL
  • racism brouhahahahahaha
I think a lot of people are using this comment thread to get their deep-seated feelings toward black people off their chest...in a very cowardly manner. I've read a lot of comments on here that have nothing to do with what happened in the Georgia House. Stay on task people...I think this proposal is silly and I would have blocked it. How hard was that? That comment "DANs" by that guy Bulldawg should not have been posted. Tell me that doesn't stand for "Dumb A** Ni**ers." Come on Neal, I thought you were policing this thing. If you are the man you claim to be on the air I know you wouldn't use that word. So why would you allow a coward, a terrified baby to post something like that on your website?
  • Racism Brouhaha
Typical facist crybaby tactics. Only a bunch of ignorant clowns would pull a stunt like this when they can't get their way. Next time how about a little circus music as the Bozo's leave the big top.
  • So-Called "Racist" Comments
If these legislators are so hell-bent on racial equality, then why do they even have a black caucus? No, racsim there!
  • So, what HAS he done
Maybe I'm missing the point; but exactly what has Obama done to deserve a road, except maybe one the the local dump?
  • legislator's racism?

Nice to see Neal's myrmidons showing their true colors.
  • typical of GA governments
this is typical of GA governments at the city level as well.. I used to live in the city of Augusta GA where they get NOTHING done because all they do is yell racism at each other, then they get voted out and a new group is elected to yell racist at each other.

they want everything there to be named after james brown.. kind of like everything is peachtree here.

That being said.. this legislation is the most ridiculous waste of the great state of GA's time I have ever seen.. it should be blocked and removed from the roster..

HELLO GA STATE GOVT?? ever heard of the DROUGHT? are you doing anything to work on that?? no? just proposing water rationing.. yea.. thought so.
  • "Uninpeachable reputation for integrity." From a politician? Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!
  • Is this all?
Is this what our state representatives do all day? Sit around and come up with asinine proposals, resolutions, and recognitions? Do they not realize we are going to have a tax shortfall this year because GA has over 8% unemployment?
    What are they thinking?
  • Charlie Daniels foretold the Great One's coming...
The Devil Went Down To Georgia

The devil went down to Georgia
He was looking for a soul to steal
And he was in a bind
    'Cause he was way behind
And was willin' to make a deal.

-Whatever. If they want to make him honorary member of the Black Caucus or Blacks in Government, who cares? He's already an honorary member of my dingleberry collection and nobody objected to that.
  • Nahh, it's not racist...
It's just disloyal and un-American! Why do you hate America, conservatives? How dare you attck Our President in a Time of War(TM)?

    Oh, I'm loving this.... (snicker)
  • Black Caucus - Black Cactus
    Both are full of pricks!
  • One word...
    DANs
  • Congressmen who happen to be of darker pigmentation
    I say this to you...

Congressmen tear down those walls of racisim and stand on your own two feet stop using a crutch. Act and behave like the leaders of a free people of the electorate.

    This is nonsense.

    Govern yourself accordingly,

    QR
  • It's POLITICS not RACE People.
Look everyone; I can understand that white community is frustrated with the continued bombardment of racism being tossed out by the black political community who continues to use victimization as a platform for personal and political success. However the generalizations that are being made about blacks and work ethics are way out of line with reality. Work ethics are a combination of historical cultural influences, education, and social economics – nothing more. Spend sometime living and working in a trailer park in Milledgeville and you will see similar social and work ethics from a white community – I have.
  • Black Caucus
Wonder if these folks would have been so eager to get Obama elected if they had known it would absolve white guilt. After all Obama and many of his cronies are so openly racist it is laughable. Just think how much this may hurt the Preparation H and lip balm industries.
  • Dear black Georgia lawmakers...
Don't let the door hit you on your way out of the statehouse.

    Good riddance.

Now can we get down to some real business, please?
  • When Does It End?
I'm getting so sick and tired that whenever there is anything remotely against anyone who's skin tone is any color other than Caucasian it's automatically racism. We have millions of people of "ethnic" (I put that in "" because apparently if you're white, you have no ethnicity) heritage who prosper and who rarely, if ever, cry racism if something doesn't go their way except blacks. And it doesn't matter what. If you don't love Obama, you're a racist. If you oppose his economic policy, you're a racist. If you make fun of him as he stutters through a speech, you're a racist. Now, in Georgia, if you balk at making a proclamation that he has "unimpeachable integrity", you're a racist. Eventually enough is going to be enough. But here's the irony of the situation. The most bigoted and racist people I have ever encountered are black but I guess it's OK. But, as I said, slavery ended 144 years. I honestly believe it's time to move on. And don't give me this nonsense that I can't comment on it because I haven't been subjected to racism, well, you'd be wrong. As I said, I've seen first hand black racism and no matter what you say, one side is as bad as the other.
  • Fair trade - I guess....
I'll give reparations if they'll give up their protected status in the workplace and actually do some of the work they're paid for instead of disappearing or conducitng personal business on company time, then threatening lawsuits if anyone objects.
  • Who's Really Making the Distinctions Here?
Georgia Legislative Black Caucus - wow, I realize that 10 to 40 years ago that black legislators in Georgia wanted to set their own recognition. However, in 2009, I feel that "recognizing" or pointing out that someone is black is just separatist and racist in itself. It might be pride, but it's still making the distinction.

A friend of mine is related to Morgan Freeman and he told her something when she was growing up - he said, "Racism will only ever truly be dead when people stop distinguishing and identifying others' race and recognize a man as a man based on his character and merits."

So those legislators are only furthering the very thing they say they are so offended by - by distinguishing themselves or our President by the color of their/his skin. People are people - set them apart based on their character and actions.

That being said - I don't think you can declare any politician "unimpeachable reputation for integrity." Let alone a man who has appointed and stood by cabinet appointees that are liars and cheats. Just saying... I'm calling it like I see it.
  • We can agree that Obama is a smooth teleprompter guy. His ability to read somebody else's thoughts from left to right and speak them at the same time is really amazing. But "unimpeacheable integrity"??? Come on! The guy comes from Chicago politics, FFS!
  • black reparations
I belive that with a semi-black president, with arab and african roots in both sides of the slave trade, that the subject of black reparations can be addressed again. I'm sick to death of hearing about it.
  • Rasism?
I sorry, but this only a very poorly orchestrated and obvious political “crises” created by members of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus to generate publicity and to try to renew their relevancy in Georgia politics. The caucus members knew that very few elected members of either party would go as far as approve the words "unimpeachable reputation for integrity" and that this would give them the camera time to cry “racism…racism…racism.” Now that they have their platform for their next election, we can move on to other business.
  • RACISM BROUHAHA HERE IN GEORGIA
As with any job, when you walk out you have quit. Have security escort them to their office and clean out their personal items and hit the door.
Now that these reps have quit, we can replace them with those who will do the job we need instead of acting like children.
No longer can they use an old washed up cause to get their way for important issues that will touch everyone's life.
  • Screw the Blacks
They have whined long enough and I'm tired of hearing how they think that everything needs to revolve around their skintone. I hope those legislators have walked out permanently. It will save us a lot of time dealing with the idiocy that these racist black bigots bring on America each and every day.
  • Tired of it...Move On!
Like so many, I'm just sick to death of Black this and Black that and anything or anyone that doesn't bow down to it being labeled a racist. It doesn't compute that a Black Caucus, which is racist right in its title, can start spouting off about racism for anything that doesn't pacify their masturbatory outrage.

Get over it, I say. Why not accept that every single person in the world comes from people who at one time were slaves (or indentured or both). From the Romans to Rajas, it is only a matter of how long ago it happened.

Personally, I'd like to see them get sued for having and exclusionary racist organization like a Black Caucus in the first place!
  • Has Cytnthia McKinney's dad threatened to cut him yet?
Georgia's founders were wise to limit our state legislature's time, it slows and limits the damage they can do. I wish we could do that with DC.
  • Georgia Legislature
When are our darker skinned brethren going to move on? There is a black President and many influential black people in the USA now. I'm ok with that. They are God's children too. But if they want an end to racism, it is now going to be up to them. The playing field is now level. We need to be a UNITED States.
  • How regretable
The fact that a black man was elected as president could have been the final nail in the coffin of black-white racial antagonism in America. Unfortunately, it appears that Obama just might set white-black relationships back 100 years. A black conservative might have brought us together. It is so tragic that our first black president is incompetent.
  • Black Caucus...
...black history month... black to the future...

What is it with these people? They complain about racism, but they seem to want a black twist on everything they can get their hands on.

When do other people get their due?
  • Black Caucus
I think that a caucus whose only purpose is to serve ONE race of people is in FACT,.....RACIST in itself.
  • yeah right!
Not even in office 100 days and already they can state for certain he's a man with an "unimpeachable reputation for integrity."

We've still got nearly four years left and I'm not holding my breath...
