ONE SMALL STEP FOR GUN OWNERS?

Right now in Washington, another issue that is up for debate is whether or not DC should be represented in the House of Representatives. But what interests me more is the fact that lawmakers have slipped into the bill what they are calling the "gun amendment." Basically it would remove the city's gun-registration requirements, limit its authority to restrict firearms and repeal the ban on semiautomatic guns.

The bill has passed the Senate. Not without a fight, though. Dianna Feinstein complained that this gun amendment would "lead to more violence." Republican John Ensign .. who sponsored the amendment .. says that it will "remove the tremendous barriers and burdens on law-abiding citizens" who were seeking to "protect themselves in their own homes."

I don't expect the Democrats to understand the concept of self-defense. That, after all, is the government's job.

What others are saying

  • Gun control laws?
There isn't one single gun control law that has done anything to reduce violant crime. DC and Chicago have the most restrictive gun laws in the country, while at the same time they have the highest rate of violant crime in the nation. Need any more proof, Stan?
  • Control the Citizens' one true method of self-defense: How to Take Over a Nation
Although Stan Gable would think I am married to my cousin somewhere in Alabama, I am just an average citizen with legally owned firearms. But liberal citizens seem to think that being deprived of weapons is OK because gov't will keep them safe.

Let's take a minute to look back into the past century and you will see there are two things a gov't needs to remove to control its populace: 1) the citizen's ability to defend themselves (read--guns), and 2) the citizen's access to information (Obama can do no wrong in the adoring, multifaceted eyes of our liberal media machine).

Both already appear to be under attack (especially by our current administration) and it is only a matter of time before some of you willingly hand over your freedom for good...
  • Stan
We all know it's illegal to trespass on your property and enter your house uninvited. Leave your door unlocked and your car keys and wallet out in plain sight... nothing to worry about, right? The criminals know it's trespassing, too. I'm sure they'll think twice about entering without your consent.
  • A 2nd to Sam's comment
Our founding fathers knew that one day our government could possibly become that which we dispised, which is one of the reason the 2nd amendment was added to the constitution. Thomas Jefferson said ""The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." That day seems to be getting closer and closer and frankly we're long overdue for a revolution. :)
  • RE: Gun Control is Modern
    Stan,
The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or sport.
It is about your right to defend your own life against anyone who tries to take it, thereby depriving you of your right to life.
The good people residing in DC have the same right to self defense that the rest of us have, but the government has been depriving them from that right for too long now, so they have to live at the mercy of the criminals, home invaders, murderers, rapists, etc., who could not care less about a gun law or any other law out there.

The "rulers" in the government get armed protection from the Secret Service, paid for by us commoners...while they try to pass more laws to deprive us of our right to self defense.
Gun Control is not about Guns, it's about Control.
  • Laughing at Stan
Does Stan support preventing hunters from traveling to a hunting sight whom are unfortunate enough to live in D.C.? Stan is against hand guns in the home for self defense?

Does Stan really think that outlawing guns will make them magically disappear? Stan, explain what YOU think might happen if all guns were made illegal.

Since guns were invented, people owned all sorts that shot standard lead bullets of various caliburs. This over hundreds of years.

Now Stan makes the jump from legal guns to illegal rocket launchers? Fully auto's are already illegal anyway (guns). Who would really be frightened if your neighbor had a fully auto AK47? Not me, but I don't live in government housing either.

No Stan. The answer isn't making guns illegal. The answer is to actually have swift, harsh punishment against violent criminals. Capital punishment is not used nearly enough. You clean up the criminals, fewer law-abiding citizens will feel the need to own an instrument of self defense.
  • Gun control is Old
The 2nd isn't about hunting. It's about defense against those that wish to do us harm, both on a personal scale and a much grander scale.

Oh, and those people are going to be hunting criminals.
  • Gun Control is Modern
What are these people going to hunt in the middle of DC? HAHAHAH Why not just allow everybody to have a rocket launcher.
  • Feinkenstein
"gun amendment would 'lead to more violence.'"

Lets hope it passes. Then watch the crime rate drop dramatically because the criminals realize they might actually get shot!

Then again, they'll probably get some brain-dead lawyer to sue.
  • Democrats are Nazis
Being that Democrats have no problem comparing Republicans to Nazis, when will it be okay to compare their gun-control mania to that of Hitler's?
  • Gun-Toting Washington, D.C. Representatives
As far as representatives for D.C. in the House being unCONSTITUTIONal, no surprise there. The Dems have been trying to use the greatest document in history as toilet paper for decades. The fact that a pro-gun measure got entered into this bill is like finding a c-note in the pants that you just got back from the cleaners. I imagine Obama already has a plan to tax us all out of gun ownership, anyway, as well as muscle through a couple of "perma-Dems" into the House to represent D.C. God knows the day D.C. elected a Republican to the House would be the day Obama became a Capitialist.....It would just be cheaper for the House to automatically enter two Democratic votes into every bill on behalf of D.C. instead of putting two more representatives on the payroll.... I must have had a delusional moment. I think I said "cheaper"
  • The Constitution?
... "we're not using it anymore."

    G. Carlin
  • pork
in my opinion, adding this gun control thing is a great idea, but is pork on the bill.

Adding anything extra to a bill should be considerd pork. Its rather immoral to say that we do not approve of pork.. and say nothing when it suits us.

    THAT BEING SAID..

the constitution doesn't allow DC to have a representative.. this is an attempt to pack the legislative branch with yet another democrat and should be wholly opposed.. and the person who introduced the legislation should be put on trial for failing to uphold their oath to defend the constitution.

oh and the gun thing.. Hey Feinstine... how many drug dealers home invaders and muggers follow the law? How many of them have reservatrionsa bout breaking the law?? You answer that question for me.. dont think too hard. If people make no bones about SHOOTING YOU.. they make no bones about illegally acquiring the firearm to begin with. If you outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns. It will INCREASE violent crime.. its been proven.
  • Unconstitutional
Without an actual amendment to the Constitution it is unconstitutional for any entity that is not a state to have a representative in our government. Did our current Congress forget that little document they derive their powers from? It's plain as day in the first part of Article 1.

Article I, Section II: The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States...

Chosen every two by the people of the STATES. That means D.C. is not allowed to have a representative without an amendment the Constitution.
