To keep the email box clean, here is a link to the book I was talking about on the air this morning, One Second After by William R. Forstchen. Hey, we're going to have him as a guest today in the 11 o'clock hour, if you're listening live Eastern Time. Otherwise, it's whenever it is for you.

What others are saying

  • One Second After
As a former Captain in the Army I have read about EMP and it's effects. Having been deployed to Iraq and Kosovo, I have always cherished our ability to live so well. This senario terrifies me. Those parts of the word have been BUILDING UP to where they are now. For us to be suddenly thrown back would to below where even they are, surely would devestate us. This book is a powerful tale of what that could look like. Being a civilian now, I see how ill-prepared we all are. Myself included. If our government won't prepare us, we must each do our best to perpare ourselve until we can convince them to make us less vulnerable.
  • ONE SECOND AFTER
I read a speech about EMP in Imprimus about a year ago. Scarey stuff!
  • Ordered it!
I love to read and while I put this firmly in the camp of fiction, I ordered my copy from Amazon and plan on enjoying it. A little doom and gloom for a rainy weekend when the garden is to wet to work sounds just right. :)
  • New twist on an old story?
Sounds like a newer version of Alas Babylon
  • The Power Of Boortz
Neal can sure move some books. I picked up the last copy at the Barnes and Nobles in High Point, NC after the show today.
  • The word needs to get out
I found this segment to be very disturbing. I have done some web research on EMP today, and see that this threat is very real. This would be relatively easy for our enemies to carry out. We don't hear anything in the MSM on this. Combine this with Obamba's proclamation that the war on terror is over, with his head in the sand. I'm afraid some of the enemies of America will want to strike while Obama is still president, since he has shown himself to be a very weak, appeasement oriented person. All the problems with the economy and the deficit will seem like a flea on an elephant if an EMP is detonated over American soil. I hope the word spreads, and people let our representatives know that we have to act fast to protect our country. That we should have zero tolerance with Iran and N. Korea. I hope Neal focuses on this issue, and pounds on it as much as he does for the fair tax. People need to be informed.
  • EMP
Electromagnetic Pulses do not effect Vacuum Tube circuitry.
  • Rehash?? EMP Scenario was described in "Lights Out" years ago.
This book sounds like a rehash of "Lights Out" which is available in PDF on the web (all 600+ pages of it).

EMP is a product of ALL nuclear weapon detonations. Nothing new here.

  • And North Korean wants to "test" fire.....
a long-range missile. I thought Obama was going to sing Kum-bah-ya with lil' Kim Jong-il, Dear Leader-to-Dear Leader.

Oh well...maybe 4th of July is going to come early this year.
  • "One Second After"
I'm going to pick up a copy of this book, granted of course that, I have enough spare time on my hands to readi it.This book is categorized as fiction, and as such, that's how I'm going to interpet it. However, having said that, we can all learn from fiction in a certain sense. I hold Dr. Forstchen in high regard, as the man is practically a genius. I encourage everyone to attend at least one of his lectures.
  • 1945, Down to the Sea
Ask him when he's going to finish the other two series he started.
  • Listen
It's obvious from the comments that you were not listening to the show, just reading stuff here. You missed lots.
  • EMP
I just got my American Legion magazine and they have a article on a Electromagnetic pulse. A EMP bomb detonated at a altitude of 100 miles above the earth would generate a EMP reaching 1,000 miles in any direction. This article is written by James Jay Carafano who is a senior research fellow for national security at the Hertiage Foundation. If you can get your hands on the April issue of the American Legion Magazine, take the time to read the article The Threat of a New Missile Age. I found the article to be very informative.
  • This guy, geez.
Yeah, a nuke does generate EMP, but I'd be quite surprised if one exploded 200 miles up would take out the whole US power grid.

I'd be slightly amused if, based on this guy's info, someone did this and only two substations were lost. With NORAD and so many other space junk tracking programs, we (the Military and any entity that tracks spacecraft) would KNOW exactly where it came from, and the launch site would be a smoking crater within minutes, even if it DID take out the whole power grid.

But I did just read this fun article saying a big solar storm could cause a similar total-power-grid-meltdown scenario:

  • Time to make the beanies!

  • Author says: Nu-cue-lar
    So much for credibility.
  • Flying April 3 -8
Why does he say not to fly between the 3 and the 8?
  • One Second After
This has been a reality since the second nation got the bomb!! We worried about this since the Soviets. Where the heck have you been, Boortz? And we keep making it easy every day with new technology.
  • ..and people are being urged to contact their Congressmen based on a science fiction book and TV shows. More junk science.
  • Lights Out
I sent an email to the Boortz Show yesterday, but after doing some digging this book "One Second After" Sounds an awful lot like a book "Lights Out" by David Crawford which was written between 2003 and 2005.
Lights out is a free book.

  • Doesn't have to be a Nuclear Bomb.........
Saw this today on Drudge Report: http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20127001.300-space-storm-alert-90-seconds-from-catastrophe.html?full=true

Keep in mind the Mayan calendar predicts something catastrophic will happen to the earth 12/21/2012.

I'm not worried. Obama will implement a Catastrophe Tax on the rich that will be responsible for bringing God's wrath upon us because of their lust for money and we'll all be saved.

Then again, if his teleprompter quits working because we have no electricity then maybe were doomed UNLESS OwlGore lends him his solar powered teleprompter.
  • One second later?
Are you sure it's not called "One Second After"? Because that's what the book cover says...
