Last Friday afternoon I spoke at the 29th Annual Eagle Forum luncheon in Naples, Florida. I was a stand-in for Phylis Schlaffley who had fallen and suffered a broken hip. There were a few dozen high school students at the speech. I'm not sure if they came from several area high schools, but one group was from Barron Collier High. During the speech I asked how many of the students present knew that America was not, nor was America ever supposed to be a Democracy. The entire Barron Collier contingent raised their hands. Later they introduced me to their history teacher. He makes it a practice to teach every class the truth about out Republic .. including the fact that our founding fathers abhorred the idea of a democracy. Remember, to the people who put this country together for us .. the word "democrat" was an epithet. It meant "one who panders to the mindless whims of the masses." These students knew that ... and what a refreshing discovery that was. It is wonderful to find shining lights like these in our hideous government education system.

What others are saying

  • If they were run correctly, this kind of thing would be commonplace. Why scrap the current education system when you could do the same thing that is supposed to happed with the rest of the government... make it accountable to its constituents?
  • Your Blatant Outing of a Non-Comforming Teacher
Way to go NEAL. You just outed the only teacher in the country who dares to oppose the state authorized "curriculum." Now he will have to be marginalized, harrassed, or obscured.
  • ... oh yeah - and this:
I hope the BCHS history teacher is begining to clue his students in to the current shift to a facist state.
  • BCHS
Well, good for them. I graduated from BCHS in '88 - Living in Atl most of the time since. Nice to hear that my old school actually gets something right!
  • The American Form of Government
IF I were allowed to get a message to Neal, I would want him to see this video. It explains our form of government and compares different types of government extremely well. I wish everyone could see this.

  • KUDOS
to those students who know the truth and to the teacher who teaches it!!!

    Long live our REPUBLIC!
  • Good to know
Knowing all the problems that exist in government schools, it is good to know that there are some good apples in the bunch. I hope and pray that they are not as rare as I think.
  • I agree with Dan
There's little doubt that this poor guy will join the ranks of the unemployed as soon as the school administration by whom he is employed finds out that he dares to actually teach something to his students.
  • democracy
First, I hope Phyllis gets better quickly. Second, it would be interesting to see the reactions of those who did not know the correct answer. Kudos to the teacher.
  • Nice Job Neal
As refreshing as it may have been to find a school teacher teaching fact instead of gov't approved fiction, you've probably all but guranteed he'll lose his job. At the very least, forced time off w/out pay while his 'heresy' is investigated. Stein nailed it, though pointed at a different subject: "No intelligence allowed."
  • A teacher with a clue
Great, now the NEA will have him sacked... God forbid we should have the young learn the truth
  • Rare as hens teeth
A teacher in a public school that has a clue. Amazing. A few years back when my son was in 9th grade, he had to take a copy of the Constitution to school to prove to his Civics teacher this exact point.
