I'm bumping this up so it'll appear on today's Nuze since it got posted late during the show yesterday. Enjoy!

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters,

We've stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know that we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and just will not ever agree on what's right. So let's just end it right now while we can do it on friendly terms. We can smile, shake hands, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and each go our own way.

So here's a model separation agreement.

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a portion. That's going to be the difficult part, but I'm sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate taste. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can have those. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. And since you hate guns and you hate war, we'll take the firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. But you are going to be responsible for finding a biodiesel vehicle big enough to haul them around.

We'll keep the capitalism, the greedy corporations, the pharmaceutical companies; we will keep Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have the homeless, the homeboys, the hippies and illegal aliens. We will keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, the greedy CEOS and all of the rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and we'll let you have NBC and Hollywood.

You can be nice to Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer anybody that threatens us. You can have the peaceniks and the war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we will provide them with security. You won't have to worry about it. We will keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley Maclaine. You can also have the UN, but we will no longer pay the bill.

We will keep the SUVs, the pickup trucks and the oversize luxury cars. You can have the compacts, the subcompacts and every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everybody healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We will continue to believe that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. We will keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the national anthem, and I am sure you will be happy to substitute in their place "Imagine." I'd like to teach the world to sing "Kumbaya" or "We are the world." We will practice trickle-down economics and you can give trickle-up poverty your best shot. And since it so offends you, we will keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots. And if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the friendly spirit of parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in about 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J Wall

What others are saying

  • Just silly
This is the attitude that Mississippi took after the civil war. How are they doing now?
P.S. I made a 2 levelheaded comments on on John J. Wall's Facebook page. He deleted them and blocked me from making any more. He has issues with criticism. He already lives in a small bubble, why split up the country?
  • John J. Hall's point
    www.partitionamerica.org
  • We are NOT a DEMOCRACY !!!
WE ARE A REPUBLIC, and you need to remember that.
  • One nation Indivisible
To Anne Grey who wrote that we need to grow up and she has seen better losers on a peewee soccer team...I believe it is that due to the "liberals" that Children are no longer to say the pledge of Allegiance in school for fear it might "offend" some other students. So as I would like to be able to say "One Nation...Indivisible" I can't. I am not allowed to. Regardless of which "Team" (since when was it a competition rather than a way to better America?) Lost. I say BRAVO John J. Wall, I will be moving to your side of town!
  • bitter already?
gee you lose 1 election and want to split off from the country? it's called democracy if you don't like it I suggest moving to another country like say, Saudi Arabia. besides it didn't work out too well last time the south tried that...
  • Law Student
I've been saying the same thing for years. I'm in NM and tired of all the hateful liberals that always come after me because I drive a H2. Sorry(not really)...a prius won't pull my Nautique!
  • Old GW was right..
George Washington, way back in the very beginning of this what used to be fine country, voiced that he did not want political parties in his United States. Is this not an oxymoron in itself? UNITED states. While we are past the point of no return, I really think that President Washington was up to something. If we were all only labeled as "AMERICANS", would we not be more prone to compromise? Just a thought. What if there were no political parties, as George Washington was untruthfully promised?
  • 2 AMERICA'S RE: DIVORCE
SINCE ALL THE LIBERALS... HATE US NON LIBERALS WHY WOULD ANY OF YOU OBJECT?

I CAN ONLY THINK OF ONE REASON AND THAT IS THE LOST TAX REVENUE.

THIS IS AN IDEAL SOLUTION, AS ALTHOUGH EDWARDS WAS WAY OFF, WE REALLY DO HAVE 2 AMERICA'S, I AGREE WITH THE LAW STUDENT, WHICH IS RATHER UNUSUAL IN ITSELF,
  • Here we go
How's about we get the red states and they get the blue. I won't even have to move.
  • We'll take the Constitution
I am for giving common sense a chance but not for giving away everything our country stands for. I went to our local tea party and unlike the liberal media hype I found myself among other "real" Americans.

If we can't settle our differences peacefully at the ballot box during the next three election cycles (enough time to vote everyone currently there out of office) and replace them with citizens instead of professional politicians then maybe we should divide up the country. It's something the liberals should be able to understand, we just want the return of our land, kind of like the Palestinians do ;-)

Since the liberals have no use for the constitution or the bill of rights etc. we'll take those for safe keeping.

Those of us out here in "fly over" country aren't good enough for the liberals anyway so this should be an amicable split. We'll give you most of the "good stuff", we know wealth building is in the capitalist spirit so we can make it all up again quickly.

This ought to at least be given a serious chance for debate by the people. Those who bother to read the Bible know there is no such "place" as America in the end times anyway so dissolution of the agreement will fulfill this prophecy and we can do it peacefully.

Our smaller "New America" wouldn't be a threat to the rest of the world so they will love it. The progressives won't have to worry about passing any laws or taxes they want, the opposition will have left the building so they'll be happy. Let's give this idea some serious thought.

You liberals can keep "Progessia" and show the rest of the world how to govern correctly. Who knows, after you've proven you can make this concept work when others couldn't then maybe the rest of us in New America will come back once we see that Utopia does exist. Hey, it could happen ;-)

We'll keep the Constitution and govern by the way it was originally intended. Those who believe and uphold the Constitution cannot exist with progressivism. So this is a fair solution and you progressives are all bout fairness, right?
  • One nation... indivisible
Is that not part of the mantra our children say every morning at school? That we said every morning at school? After the attacks in 2001, everyone said 'united we stand', but the results of one election make you want to split up the country? Because your team lost? Get over it and grow up, I've seen better losers on a peewee soccer team.
  • Typical Whiny Lefties
Heretic is such typical left-wing, American hating, pinko democrat. Give them everything they want and they still, moan, complain, whine, and carry on like the babies they are. Did you ever see any of these people smile? Move to Cuba, you bum!

  • Law Student?
Actually sounds pretty good to me with certain exceptions. He has to take the Muslims since they're staunch conservatives at heart too. I give it all about two years before some "religious leader" takes over and invokes martial law on everybody who doesn't follow whatever doctrine he espouses. Kinda like the Taliban, but biblical based. The will get to see what life is like without any arts or any sort including, music (they'll get tired of freaking Ted Nugent pretty quick I think), dance, movies (well. maybe John Wayne and Ronnie Reagan flicks), Painting, etc. But not to worry, the mandatory prayer sessions will keep them all pretty busy. I'm sure they'll find out pretty quickly that most of that "liberal press" that they decried actually wound up on their side of the fence, go figure and whoda thunk! A substantial portion of the drug addicts, child molesters, general perverts, and criminals of all ilks are there as well, (hell, you didn't REALLY believe they were all Democrats did you? Where'd you think all those defrocked ministers and former GOP congressmen came from?) As for the firearms, we've got our own and hopefully we'll have a police force who won't find it necessary to beat up the citizenry in order to prove their own machismo and a military that won't have to justify its own excesses by inventing WMD's in order to initiate invasions of other countries. It might be nice to kick back and relax without out playing neighborhood bully/redneck cop to all the other countries of the world just because we can. Oh yeah and since you took all of those greedy CEO's don't call on us when they outsource what's left of the jobs in your sector so that they can increase their own bottom line. Remember, you asked for those bloodsuckers, so when you find that your cops are all from Bangladesh and your army is imported from Indonesia, don't come c rying to us. You can have Wal-Mart and all of its Chinese merchandise, but don't forget you get the debt to China that goes along with it. And while we're on the subject of international debt, don't forget the bill you'll be running up with Russia and the middle east for the fuel needed to fill up your SUV's and monster trucks. You guys never gave a rats ass about conservationism so when the bill finally comes due on that they will own you. Perhaps you can tax the rich to cover that, nah, that's something we would have thought of. I guess you'll just have to wait for that "trickle down" economics to start. It didn't work for Ronnie Reagan either, but maybe it was due to the guy at the top having a stuck zipper........
  • To Gavin:
    Sincerity, "Yes", guilty as charged.

What did I say that you disgree with?

I am angry with Republicans myself. Had Bush used his power of veto we would be in much better shape today and if Republicans had done what they were elected to do, they would be the majority party in both houses.

I do, however, remember the Clinton administration and his deals with China. I also remember the four years of Bush's eight when Democrats controlled Congress. There is plenty of blame to go around.

I never expected liberals to act like conservatives. That is why this election upset me so much. Liberals always act like liberals! I have yet to see one who doesn't or perhaps I should say hasn't. This, however, is the first time in our nation's history that we have had a president and a Congress that do not understand anything about how a free market should work, or else they are not in favor of capitialism and a free market.

This is the first time we have had a president who has never run anything before in his life. His lack of experience is frightening and even if he was conservative, I would worry.

This week China expressed concern over our ability, or inablility, to pay the debt we owe them. Everyone knows we cannot - and to quote a little scripture, "The borrower is servant to lender."

Did anyone see the White House reporter today trying to say that Obama is bringing terrorist to justice, but he couldn't use the term terrorist, so he had a moment of silence while he tried to come up with a word to use? It would be funny, if not so sad.
  • Conservative Means Closed Minded
Call it socialism or capitalism, or whatever you want to call it. We've tried things both ways, and let's be realistic. If we are interested in results, and we're willing to be open-minded and not pre-judge anything, you will see that what Roosevelt did after the great depression kept the economy afloat till the 70's (with a little boost from Eisenhower's interstate system, one of the largest public works/new deal projects ever). Reagan tried the trickle down stuff, and it worked for only a few years. Then we had the upswing with Clinton, then the down slide with Bush. So forget ideals and debates, forget what the experts think, and forget that you are a racist, ignorant, facist, zionist, idiot; we know which policies lead to prosperity, and we are going with those, and since you're in the minority now, and since you took things way too far when you had the power, we now are happy to see you boil and lose sleep over this. Also, if you supported what got us here, we really don't care about your opinion.
  • @By lstAmendmentGal @ 03/10/09 12:55:26 PM
I like you! You seem resonably resonable. I don't agree with you but you seem sincere enough. I'm still too mad at Republicans to forgive and forget why we are here in the first place. Republicans were not shy about bringing home the pork when they had the power. Now so-called conservatives who acted liberal expect liberals to act conservative?

Whatever, I hope you create your new and proud redneck states so we can ditch you book burning cultural parasites who believe the world is just $5,000 years old and that Saddam was involved with 911. Now quit wasting time on these here posts and go study for that GED you so badly need.
  • re: Socialism
Communication is tough. I think we need a little clarity on what "socialism" is since all parties involved seem to have their own definition of what "socialism" means:

The name has been around a long time. We could probably use it again after the rest of the country falls into oblivion because they have so little courage left that they are willing to sell what little soul they have remaining for a few more $$ from their Uncle. Even General Motors has awakened and turned down their Uncle's latest offering. Ford figured it out over a year ago. Now, if the American public were half as smart as a car company they would come to grips with the fact that they are being bled by the biggest vampire on the planet - Uncle Sam. Think about this. If I offered to fix your finances and put together the $1 trillion dollars needed and you accepted but when you read the fine print you found that 90% of what I "gave" you was really to gain almost absolute control over you and only 10% went towards fixing your finances, what would you think?

Slavery, one of the most inhumane things ever done to any human has been gone in this country since the end of the Civil War. Now, for those that are more than willing to accept their Uncle's offerings they are about to be introduced to what slavery really is.

Finally, to the French Trial Lawyer, are you really French? There seems to be some question as to your voracity. And, if you are really from France, what are you crowing about, surely not a great country that was overtaken by liberalism and socialism to the point that your unemployment is outrageously high, and you are increasingly going backwards in the direction of the 3rd world. Your country should be the poster child for what does not work. A country where everything is stifled because the government runs it all. Anybody have a history book on the USSR? Seventy-four years of spend and spend and spend and what have they to show for it? Nothing but broke and the same haves and have nots, mostly have nots.

  • New rules #2
    1. Illegals caught in US should be given community service at minimum wage until they can afford to go back home. Once home they are eligible
for work visa but must be paid from agency that properly tax's them.
    * Workers will be given biometric ID cards (maybe even intra cordial RFID implants).
    * Workers family will be given visitation visa's, will be regulated by "person days" Ex: one person for 60 days equals 2 peoples for 30 days
and so on) transportation can be deducted pre tax as long as US transportation is used.
**** Any violation of visitation will be regarded as cross boarder violation.
    * Land/Home ownership is only available once USA citizenship is acquired, ENGLISH is required and mandatory.

    2. No more automatic (Amendment-14) citizenship just because you are born in the USA. I suggest we add that at least one of the parents
MUST be a USA citizen and place of work in within the USA for child to be USA citizen. I will conceded if these rules are met the mother
may give birth outside the USA and the child is a citizen. This act will not make the mother a citizen if not already one.
**** Sperm donation does not count ****

    Penalties for lawlessness:
    1. Illegal entry into USA
    a. see #1 above.
    b. You are tattooed, questioned to determine physical and mental status, if you are cleared (Ellis Island rules), results determine eligibility for
    # 1 or return to country where you crossed into USA, this will not always be your homeland.
    c. This is your third offense, you are staked out (staked into the ground that is) at border with a placard warning others that we are serious.

    2. Breaking USA law's before you become USA citizen:
a, Any felony (murder, rape, assault, molestation, etc....) results in execution, no death row, no appeals, no bullshit about inhuman death,
just kill it. Maybe even sell the executioner role on EBay, monies go to the victims family.
    b. Less than feloniousness crimes are tried in court and if found guilty perp is sent back home, this will be considered a boarder crossing and
    may lead to execution.

    3. Breaking USA law's after you you become USA citizen:
    a. Tried in American court, if found guilty you loose USA citizenship and are sent back to country of origin. Any family members in USA
on visitation VISA will be given opportunity to become citizen before deportation.
  • Some new rules
As for some ideas, here ya go:
    1. All prisoners in jail for life should be turned into slaves or executed.
    2. All drugs (Marijuana, heroin, coke, etc...) should be legalized.
    3. All injectable drugs should be sold with drug contained within a one time use needle (needle retracts after use).
    Benefits:
    A. Illegal drug trade is severely impacted.
    B. Tax's from sales goes to economy and rehab centers.
    C. Education (not prosecution ) is the answer, the newest estimates are that education and rehabilitation would cost only
23% of what is spent on prosecution and this does not included secondary costs associated with drug abuse (Crime, etc...)
although many of these effects cannot be quantified, ONDCP recently reported that in 2002, the economic cost of drug abuse
to the United States was $180.9 billion.
    D. (My personal favorite) is that after all the intravenous users are comfortable with the new program we pick one day and release a
hotshot (pure heroin or whatever they are using), this will caused many deaths so we need to be ready to " Bring Out Your Dead"
collection but now we got rid of lots of society's problems.

Between reducing prison population and the drug addicts we will be a more efficient society and be able to spend monies on the
wholesome people who really need it (including the old and infirm).
  • Divorce - a response.
    5) We will always strive for peace with all nations, and also relentlessly work to destroy those corrupted by evil intention. We will gladly take those who cry for peace, and those who protest the actions of the government - we will continue to value freedom of speech.

    6) Please keep any vehicles you like. As mentioned above, our superior physical fitness will allow us to walk or bike about our land. Fortunately, we will experience the purest of air and water as a result.

    7) Feel free to force your people into a belief system. We will not be oppressive - any man may worship any god.

(out of order a bit there, I know.)

    8) We will gladly grant superior health care to every man. We will find and educate medical professionals. Any honorable physician will practice their trade primarily to foster life, and secondarily to make a buck. Of course, we will pay our life saving doctors as they deserve. We will stand firm in the belief that a child born to a poor mother will be granted the same medical care as a child born to a wealthy mother. A child does not choose his parents. We will continue this practice for every human until they enter eternal slumber. We will ask that you honor your cherished Judeo-Christian values and do the same. Music is held within the soul - all men will always have the ability to hold any song within oneself.

    (skipping one lame paragraph)

    10) We will not deny or ignore history. We will understand that history is the only sure glimpse into the future. Condemning slavery, unnecessary war, sexism, and the lack of fire will not be staples of our society. A flag is a representation of a people, not a political party, we will use any flag we like. You may have the name. We will be defined by more than the spoken word.

Obviously, this political bickering is silly and useless. Only until both sides are able to realize the strengths of the other, and the weakness that lurks within, will we be able to truly prosper. Our nation has never been driven by a political party and certainly not by the government as a whole. People - unified and accepting people - have paved the road to the prosperity and success this nation has enjoyed. Bush has passed, and Obama will pass. Our nation will live on, held together by its people. One can only hope that the cohesiveness of the people will grow stronger through unity, and not weaker through division.

    Sincerely,

    Ryan Chip
    Normal Dude, and an American
  • Divorce - a response.
    My response, by paragraph:

    1) Surely a divorce between two people would usually end in a 50/50 split. However, no liberal and CERTAINLY no conservative would want to stray too far from our Democratic principles. As Americans, we must all play the part and continue to allow the consensus of the people to rule. Therefore, the land shall be divided as depicted here:

    http://www.american-election.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-o-matic/cache/27f42_FinalElectoralMap.jpg

Those of you unfamiliar with this map - it is an electoral map representing the mandate set forth by the people which sent our President to the White House.

    2) Because of grotesquely partisan attitudes (excellently characterized in this letter) this is not possible.

    3) I'll live in the, "redistributive taxes" region - where corporate executives will remain wealthy, the generally wealthy earn slightly less, and the lower and middle class can work hard and maybe - just maybe - not live paycheck to paycheck.

Liberal judges and the ACLU will guide the people to a more progressive and harmonious society, ensuring that technology and scientific research flourishes, our privacy is maintained, and all people of all races, genders, and sexual orientation get a fair shake. Guns and unnecessary war will have no place in this land. We will gladly spend our resources on more useful things. School children will have books, the less fortunate will be able to receive superb health care. Police and military work for the good of a nation, and no true American would shun them - we will split them. Without guns, we will forge a more peaceful society. Physical fitness will thrive in this land, as the people will now hunt with hand crafted bow and arrow, axe, and spear.

Celebrities of all kinds should be allowed the freedom - so cherished by libs and conservos alike - to choose where they dwell. We will gladly accept any man into our land.

  • Christian to "Christians?"
You need to look up the definition of a "right". A right is something that you exercise that doesn't require something from me. If you're a mechanic, and I need my car fixed, I don't have a right to expect you to fix it for free. I have a right to enter into an agreement to hire you to fix it, just like your father has the right to enter into an agreement with a doctor to treat his cancer. As a compassionate society, we have a duty to provide care to those who need it, which we do, even when they can't pay for it, such as what Grady Hospital provides, as well as Charity Hospital in New Orleans, as well as the Shriners Hospitals, and countless others. This is in accordance with the Christian principle of "Charity". You father might not fare so well under a government system that mandates limits on care for terminal diseases, since under a government system will most definitely ration health care, and priorities will be set. You seem to advocate for an unobtainable perfect system, which will in the process destroy a great one.
  • That's so sad, man
First off, you have admitted to being a liar, since you presented yourself a Mr "French Trial Lawyer" and now you a state that your not. Are you also lying about being a trial lawyer? If so, do you lie in court? Recall that Bill Clinton was impeached for lying, not for having sex. Do you admire him so much that you emulate him by being a liar? In order to have a civil discussion, we must behave ethically and limit our discussion to facts. As an admitted liar, you cannot be relied upon to behave ethically. You instead resort to invective and insults (known as the "ad hominem" argument) because you have no facts to support your positions. Now to the merits: It is not governments' job to take care of the people. It is governments job to maintain order and preserve individual freedom so that society may flourish. It is not governments' job to distribute wealth. It is governments job to allow the market to distribute wealth according to our ability to obtain it. Althought it will distribute it unevenly, we know that communism or any other form of despotism will distribute poverty evenly. I say this because it has happened so often that only a Liberal could ignore it. Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot et al took care of their people (boy, did they!). These cases are the logical outcome of Liberalism, when all power is imbued in the state, and the needs of the state rather than the needs of individuals are paramount. I'm satisfied to learn from their lessons. As to the French, while they may once have had the gumption to change their government at will, they now no longer have to resolve even to stop the French "youths" (mostly named Mohammed and Hussein) from rioting in the streets and burning countless cars. And we needn't worry for long about them laughting at us, because in an Islamic republic, I believe public laughing is forbidden, and France is irretrievably headed down that path due to immigration, the Muslim populations birth rate, and the romantic French's inability to reproduce at a rate to sustain their native population. It may give you some comfort to characterize those who disagree with you and your one-dimensional ideology as "simple minded", so go ahead. I'm sure you need the boost to your ego.
  • Christians?
Healthcare shouldn't be a right? A country with the resources such as America shouldn't do something as basic and take care of its sick?! The arrogance and the racism (ie: Keep your "homeboys") comes as no surprise. And I know conservatives feel anybody who is poor must be lazy and not willing to work. But my Dad, who worked his entire life was forced into early retirement. Had he not taken the buyout, he would have been in the group of thousands of workers fired after him that received no healthcare and would not have been able to afford treatment when he was diagnosed with Cancer. He is in remission now but I guess you feel that he should have died if he didn't have healthcare even though he worked his entire life, like many of his co-workers who received no healthcare when they were let go? And there are many people that work, are on unemployment, or retired that would not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid but still would not be able afford treatment for any serious illness. Not to mention, what about children, through no fault of their own, that have no insurance? I find it so ironic that it is the Right that believes it has God on their side. Quite the Christian attitude you have to the sick!
  • It's Over, We've Won
I'd say not only accused, but tried and convicted of all sorts of heinous things., ie., crimes against the constitution, in court of public opinion. Good luck on your desert island for the next several election cycles. Finis.
  • Conservatism vs. Whatever
As I said earlier, so go ahead, get it out of your system.

A few years ago I heard an immigrant to this country speak. He came from Cuba. He made one remark that has stuck with me over the years. He said, "If you want to know what kind of country the USA is, watch the traffic. Are people fighting and risking their lives to get into the US, or are they risking their lives to get out?"

Liberals accuse us of all sorts of heinous things, but notice that folks are still coming here from around the world.

Let us hope that we will be able to preserve our constitution, our free market, and the wonderful characteristics of the American people. As long as we remain a free, (which includes giving liberals the freedom to trash our country) and a compassionate country who cares for not only our on people but for people around the globe, there will be those who want to come here.

There is an idealogical war going on in this country, and if freedom and self reliance loses, everyone loses.
  • Perhaps using “Russia” for my analogy to illustrate the ultimate outcome of government’s failure to take care of its own was inadvertently too inflammatory for the Boortzians (godless commies and so forth). I could have used just as easily the “Let them eat cake” attitude that fomented the French Revolution. Government has a responsibility to take care of those in need, to balance the needs of capital with the needs of labor. The Russian Revolution analogy was an attempt to point to the logical outcome IF government policy favored by pseudo-libertarian Republicans is taken to its extreme. It’s not a literal comparison but it shows the direction pseudo libertarians would take. Get over it.
I thought the pseudo-libertarian movement hated all taxes, and all the government programs that dispense tax money to those who did not earn it. Am I wrong? The Employee Free Choice Act, if it becomes law, is a minor ripple in the ongoing give and take between labor and capital. Don’t expect any fireworks.
Bush inherited a 5.7 trillion dollar debt and left us what, 12.something trillion? Talk about getting dangerously close to our own home grown brand of a corporatist, fascist state. I haven’t heard any defense of Bush’s torture or is war. Do yourself a favor – don’t bother. You poor Obamanated oppressed . . . pseudo libertarians? Republicans? Conservative Socialists? Rushians? What are you people, exactly? You’re not conservative, just utterly confused. You traded William F. Buckley, Jr. for Rush and Hannity a long time ago.
And Mr. Caustic Awake Regular Dude, I’m a Georgia trial lawyer, I added “French” just to drive simple minds crazy. The French, by the way are a great and glorious civilization. They were the dominant power for over two centuries. The only reason the world speaks English today instead of french can be summarized in two words: “Waterloo” and “Trafalgar”. The French gave us the Statue of Liberty and enabled us to win at Yorktown. They have the best food, the best wine, and they’ll overthrow their government in a heartbeat if it gets out of hand, unlike the spineless ninnies who populate the conservative blogosphere. They don’t use recorded music at the ballet. And they don’t impeach their presidents for having sex. They are LAUGHING AT YOU (literally), Mr. Caustic Awake Regular Dude. They love Clinton, as do most humans.
    Salut.
  • Another reply to French Trial Lawyer
You appear unable or unwilling to listen to opinions other than your own. 1stAmendmendmentGal completely decimated your argument with facts, but you now fling (picture what a chimp flings) more wild-eyed unsubstantiated charges that might really get 'em goin' in the Liberal amen corner, but are utterly groundless and absurd. But, I forget that with Liberals, it's not about facts, because facts are relative, and it's all really about how you feel. I would like to close on a personal note, since you've made it personal with your insults and caustic tone. "The French - you can always count on them to be there when they need you" and "Wanna buy a French Army rifle? Never been fired, dropped only once".
  • Hey Rush, is there a doctor in the house?
I was not comparing the US to Czarist Russia. I was pointing out the corrupt ethos of the Republican philosophy as it has been preached and acted upon by elected officials and their minions in the electorate for the past eight years.
Obama, too, is giving every household a tax cut, as virtually every president ever elected will claim to have done. Unlike your money under Bush, I don’t see your freedoms drying up under Obama, unless of course he models himself on Bush and assumes sweeping dictatorial powers to write himself above any laws he finds unworthy (the infamously overused Bush signing statement). For example, using Bush’s legal reasoning, Obama could suspend the sale of all ammunition in this country at the next “terrorist crisis” for “reasons of national security”. . . .
The possibilities are endless. Under George Bush firearms were unconstitutionally seized after Katrina, Habeas Corpus was suspended (that’s the right to be brought to court and have the State show cause why you should be detained), the Sixth Amendment right to a lawyer that Republicans so vehemently hate till they need one was eviscerated, at least four different statutes and treaties were criminally violated by Bush over the course of his Iraq fiasco – there were really too many crimes against the Constitution to enumerate here. Getting back to history, which all these pseudo-Libertarian Republicans shun in favor of marketing classes, Bush should be (and in fact is being investigated) for war crimes. If torture and aggressive war was a crime when the Nazis did it, then it is even more of a crime when Bush did it because the US and its allies wrote the laws that the Nazis were prosecuted under at Nuremberg (after the fact no less).
The fact that these things are even being discussed by us and acted upon by more serious people should make Americans fighting mad. Instead, Republicans “don’t see the big deal” about Habeas Corpus or our international treaty obligations. This again illustrates how decadent and corrupt you people have become. All you care about is acquiring wealth so you can feel this bogus sense of self-importance while others suffer. Poverty (that includes hunger) DOES exist in this country.
You Republican pseudo-libertarians are not what you drive, no one thinks your kids are cute, and no one is going to take your precious firearms (or mine either). You’re just a bunch of dupes who supported a virtual dictatorship in this country, and now you’re confused, alienated, and flailing about because you have a liberal President (and have you heard, he’s black!!). And on top of that because of Bush you can’t retire for another ten years. But still you say, “Thank you sir! May I have another!” Get real. Actually incorporate Christian ethics into your party’s ideas for a change, and get rid of the Bushes, Rumsfelds and politician-pedophile-preachers who are so statistically over-represented in the Republican ranks. It’s so obvious. THE REPUBLICANS MADE BARACK OBAMA.
  • Answer to Libertarian Liberal
What President Bush gave Americans was a tax cut for every household.

Russian monarchists watched while the masses starved which is unlike America, where even those on welfare are able to buy cell phones and TV’s. In the USA, In 2005, SNAP served 25.7 million people a month and cost $28.6 billion by providing food stamps. No one has to starve in this country. It is just wrong to make a statement that our people are suffering as the Russian people did.

If you want to compare the USA with Russia, compare what the government was doing prior to the Communist takeover with what our government is now doing.
The starvation in Russia began with economic troubles which began on July 27, 1914 when the government suspended the ability to convert rubles into gold and gave the treasury permission to print paper money without any regard to the amount of gold that was in the vaults. As a result, the amount of paper money in Russia increased by around 600%. This is the course we are presently on. Our people are not starving, but if we continue on this path, we soon will be.

The USA is one of the few countries where there is a thriving middle class and has been for two centuries. Still we made a record, $300 Billion in charitable donations in the year 2007.

Thomas Jefferson said, "Taxes on consumption, like those on capital or income, to be just, must be uniform." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Smith, 1823.

"Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread." -- Thomas Jefferson

Benjamin Franklin said, “Will not these heavy taxes quite ruin the country?”

Now to answer Libertarian Liberal’s question. You asked, “What specific rights have been taken away from anyone in order to give someone else more freedom?”

Alexander Hamilton said, “The power over a man’s sustenance amounts to a power over his will.“ Over taxing the people takes a person’s freedom of choice away. A person’s right to provide for the future, education and needs of their family is taken when taxes due are 45% of their income and when workers are informed that they must pay the mortgages for those who bought homes they could not afford and bail out private corporations.

To grant freedom to one group often takes away freedom from another. Smokers will testify to this.

Another example, and one that is now being considered is the misnamed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). It does more than effectively eliminate workers' rights to a secret ballot vote on joining a union. Section 3 of EFCA gives government officials the power to impose contracts on workers and firms.

Think about what can be done when Congress and the Executive have the power to pass a bill without giving the American people time to read that bill. Every freedom we have is threatened by this policy.

  • Libertarian Liberals
Yes, Libertarians can be liberal and moderate, and yes, classical libertarianism as exhibited by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin was both. The current fad of the greedy, low brow, anti-intellectual right is to call oneself “libertarian” while in reality parroting the authoritarian Bushbot neo-con line. Some irrational bitching about “high taxes” and “fascist liberals” is thrown in, and voila, another know-nothing-heard-it-all-on-a-30-second-Rush-sound bite “libertarian” is born. Joyce says, “We believe in personal freedom but do not think you have the right to shove it in everyone's faces or take away someone elses [sic] rights to get there, like most liberals do.” How do you shove freedom in someone’s face? I need more freedom, will you please shove some my way? What specific rights have been taken away from anyone in order to give someone else more freedom? Republicans (which all pseudo-libertarians really are) have for the past eight years advocated policies that are extremely authoritarian. Authoritarianism is the opposite of libertarianism. Get a clue. That steak you so eagerly bought from George Bush was actually a sh*t sandwich. Your insistence on eating it is making me wretch.
In 1917, 500,000 Bolsheviks took over a country of 17 million people because, like the Republicans of today, the Russian monarchists (read “conservatives”) thought they had a God given right to watch people starve while they lived in luxury. Well, one does have this right, but there are consequences . . . .
Excuse me, but you people are just stupid, a sideshow, like some temporary aberrant development in American society where one is considered to be “successful” if they are completely uninformed and rich at the same time. The irony is most of you aren’t even rich, just uninformed. Do yourself a favor, smoke a joint, compose a great song, invent something useful to mankind, or, if you can’t produce anything of value, just try to learn to love your fellow man and stay out of the way of those of us who can.
  • Hatred
Gavin, I do understand there is a big difference between criticism and hatred. I have no problem with honest criticism being used against either side, but what liberal media and liberal websites did during the Bush administration goes way beyond criticism. Liberals seem to believe what they want to believe or what they are told to believe on moveon.org etc. The bare naked truth is that democrats had to destroy credibility of any opposition in order to be reelected, even if it meant losing a war and ruining an economy. It only took two years for liberals in Congress to set up this economic scenario. They were less successful in causing us to lose the war, but you and I know how hard liberals tried. Our troops were accused of horrible things by media while they were protecting Iraqi citizens. The truth was not being told to the American people.

While I do not agree with Bush on some issues, I strongly disagree with liberal tactics and dishonesty.

What is so sad is if President Bush had even proposed these trillion dollar spending sprees that Obama has already passed, he would have been crucified by the left. If Bush had tried to end free speech by controlling public broadcasting, liberals would have fought him. If Bush had run on a promise of transparency and then pushed a bill through Congress that even the Congress did not have time to read, he would have been impeached. Do you realize how much government control goes along with every dollar spent and do you not understand who is going to pay this bill? And you tell me not to be a sucker!!!

It's as if you and Rush believe Bush's only problem was the people who "hated" him. Do you realize there's a difference between criticism and hatred? Hatred is the clever guy named LiberalHater who called me a fag. Do you think George Bush did anything worthy of criticism? George Bush was not a defenseless victim of hate crimes.

When you hear the highly successful Limbaugh accuse others of hatred, the word hypocrite doesn't come to mind? Don't be a sucker.
  • You guys are funny
The fact you people post this up like it sounds intelligent cracks me up. I dont really care to respond to it because its pretty low brow, but I will say this, it makes my argument for me for why I choose the left. I mean, it almost sounds like its making fun of you people for being on the right. Oh well....
  • Dear Liberal,
The highly successful Rush Limbaugh asked a question shortly after the election that many here are helping to answer. He asked where all the hate and animosity liberals have will be directed now that Bush is out of office and democrats control both houses and the executive branch? It seems to me it is being directed toward conservative talk show hosts and their audiences. It had to go somewhere.

    By Mark @ 03/08/09 11:57:15 AM

Of all the funny comments in this thread, this is my favorite.

When this comment appeared, the word "racist" was used once: by you.

The word "hate" is tossed about mercilessly, mostly in posts like yours that make unsubstantiated claims about what liberals hate.

My favorite part of this post, however, isn't its unsubstantiated claims; it's the obvious hatred you have for liberals. You can't even use the word liberal without turning it into an insult.

Do you think that by calling it first, you are off the hook for being guilty of the same thing? Is this the "Shotgun! I get to sit in the front seat!" defense? I know it's right out of the Boortz playbook: assign derogatory terms to the other side's position while using their tactics just the same.

So it's the left wing moonbat libtard aholes who hate you? Google the term "self-fulfilling prophecy" sometime.

I agree that Americana are very divided along idelogical and cultural lines, and shouldn't be forced together. But what does Israel's brutalization of Palestine have to do with anything? When did America become Judeo-anything? America and Israel are separate nations with separate interests.

I actually remember when Neil complained about Israel defying Bush the Elder over settlements. What happened? I guess that political compass he calls a soul got the better of him. What a shame!

I THINK THINK THIS IS DOUBLE TRUE FOR ALL CONCERNED AMERICANS
  • Two new nations?
Obviously the conservatives would keep the name The United States of America, U.S.A.(a bit ironic at that point though) because the liberals adore the European system so much. Naturally the nation of liberals would become the Western United Sovereign States of European Socialists, W.U.S.S.E.S.
  • JHenry
    JHenry:

First of all, America is not defined by its founding principles. We are "defined" by our rise as an industrial world power, which was long after our founding.

Second, while our founders believed in God the Creator (at a time before we could understand our origins scientifically), most were very skeptical of God in any other capacity. Jefferson himself was not fond of Christianity, though he did say that some of the moral lessons therein held value. He made his own Bible where he took out every mention of miracles, heaven, hell, etc.

Also, from a treaty that our founding fathers supported: "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"

America was founded on Enlightenment values, not Christianity.

America was also not founded on capitalism or a free market economy. Those ideas were still developing, and we were less "free market" than Britain in any case. We also didn't separate for a limited government, but for State governments independent from Britain.

It should also be noted that most of our founders abhorred industry, except the "big government" ones.

Now, obviously, our founders were wrong about a lot of things. Industry and capitalism were successful. The values they got right, though, even if they didn't always adhere to them.

No, individualism did not make us a superpower. Remember who the other superpower was? That's not to say that individualism isn't valuable, or even the most valuable thing we have, but it does little to bring about wealth and power. What is does give us is worth more, however.

Also, we don't have the highest standard of living.

Also, modern liberalism and socialism being inseparable is simply wrong. "modern liberalism" as expressed by the Democratic party is right wing conservatism (but less so than the Republicans).

The Republican party of today is the remains of the Jim Crow South combined with extreme corporatism and international belligerence.
  • Hm...
Wow, this is stupid. I sincerely hope someone of this level of intelligence isn't able to succeed in Law school. In reality, the "liberal America" would include every major city and much outside the cities, including the entire coastline. That means it would have all the major corporations and wealth in our country. Also, every road, airplane, train, and telecommunications infrastructure would be "liberal America"'s as well. Wal-mart would also be "liberal America"'s, unfortunately. Maybe we can trade for one of "conservative America"'s more interesting deserts.

However "conservative America" would maybe get some of the more unpleasant gas stations. Some of the more ignorant rednecks as well. And of course, it would have the ignorance and bigotry that some like to think are Christian values (what's with the "Judeo"? Do you think any significant number of Jews share your bigotry? They don't.). Pat Robertson, and Ted Haggard would definitely fall under "conservative America". Christianity itself would remain "liberal America"'s. Also, "conservative America" would be immediately in poverty, since right now "liberal America" is paying huge amounts of welfare to "conservative America". Of the Red States, only Texas pays more in taxes than it gets in federal spending, and that is because of the "liberal" parts of Texas. Don't worry about an anthem, "conservative America" would ban singing as immoral, and no one would be well educated enough to know the name of the country they live in, let alone the history. We all know what flag "conservative America" would use.

In reality, this would be totally unfair to "conservative America", they'd get almost nothing. Now, that would be fair because they contribute almost nothing, but some of the bleeding hearts in "liberal America" might be unhappy anyway. So here's a better idea. "liberal America" gets the United States. "conservative America" can move to Saudi Arabia. They have plenty of greed, ignorance, bigotry, religious fundamentalism, jingoism, and authoritarianism. They really do represent everything "conservative America" wishes America was. And, since they have all that oil, "conservative America" wouldn't have to worry about being productive, which may just not be possible for them.

The greedy and ignorant have tried to leave this country before, and take part of it with them. It didn't end too well for them. I wonder how hard it is to twist an SUV around a tree?
  • @Disinterested
Your comment would be funny if it weren't so pathetic and downright stupid. The left’s “love” for this country orbits around the guaranteed right to spew all the things they hate. Here’s just some of what they hate: The country, (“It’s not worth fighting for”) American history, democracy, (former)President Bush, SUVs, and people who question their leftwingnut opinions. The "Bush lied" mantra is hackneyed and has been debunked repeatedly.
Then there’s the special hate category they’ve reserved for the military; denigrating the sacrifices of those sworn to protect them and reap the benefits without having to put their own lives on the line. The convenience of it all is mind-boggling.
Newsflash: Marching with anti-American/pro-Islamofascist signs and screaming the usual recitations in a free country doesn’t take a lot of guts.

For all of the bluster, they would never, for one minute, live under the system they advocate. Their identity is mired in the anti-American neurosis part and parcel to the lunatic fringe. If that's what you nihilists call "love" the method could use some work.

Make a beeline for the airport. I'm sure Iran would take you.

this has got to be one of the most moronic things I've ever read. What is when either side loses an election that the whining one upmanship crap starts to come out of the woodwork?

And out of curiosity, what kind of law is this student practicing? I hope he's not planning on litigation and sticks to insurance law or some such.
  • Amicably...yeah.
You know they'll never let us go without a fight. They know it too. What I can't understand is how the hell they expect to win. But they do expect it, and they are planning it, and this won't be a cakewalk. They are already setting up ideological purges in the military and police forces, and negotiating the pay for the mercenaries they believe capable of defeating us.

And by "us" I mean you, who will have to fight as free men ever have, when confronting tyranny. I wish you luck. I do pray that some of you survive.
  • I don't see why any self respecting person of intelligence would want to keep the rednecks. :P If anything, they give real conservatives a bad name.
  • Thank you
Thank you all for the comments. I am happy to have energized those of you who think in a similar fashion and moreover happy to have irritated those of you who were upset enough to write back.

I wrote this just prior to the election out of frustration that a candidate like Barack Hussein was even being considered for office.

Yes, I am aware that the Locke-Hume brand of Classical Liberalism on which the country was founded is ideologically different than the progressive liberalism at which the divorce decree strikes. Yes, Washington and Jefferson were liberals, but would both would choke at modern liberalism. For example, Jefferson was a staunch supporter of an armed populous and reviled the idea of an income tax. Not exactly in line with the progressive mentality of our current administration.

Yes, I am real, currently a Law Student at Washington University in St. Louis. So far as the sad individual who is concerned about my life outside of Law School, no I don't watch much television, do have a delightful girlfriend, and am currently on spring break heli-skiing in Alaska.

No, I am not a supporter of Mr. Bush or fan of the last 8 years. Mr. Bush was a bit too far on the progressive/liberal side for my taste. The spending was out of control and the terrorism and WMD problem could have been solved with something far less expensive and wasteful than several years of invasion and occupation.

Lastly, I had no interest in separating red states and blue states but instead wished to invoke an ideological split. Yes, the blue states produce more, they have larger population centers within them where the chum can gather to suckle at the government coffers, then perform their once yearly job of voting for those who maintain the continuation their entitlements. Keep taxing the producers that happen to live there and see where you end up. One day the ideological red side will stop fiscally supporting you, stop defending you, and stop putting up with you bleeding our strengths to support your ineptitude.
  • Hey, Good Ol' Days!
"As for the rest of you pansy conservobots? Do it. We dare you. Stop circle-jerking over every loudmouth that talks a lot of crap, and actually do it. Go ahead and make your glorious Redneck States of America. What's stopping you?"

Maybe it IS fear. Fear of the inevitable spillage from dear old enlightened Chomskyland, that has been sending it's blue emissaries down here for decades. They grow weary of life in Chomskyland and so head down here to spread the misery.

Anyway, Good Ol' Days, your guys have the power. They can do it. If the Redneck States are such a drag, Chomskyland can cut them loose.

    Dear: LAW STUDENT

We've stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.
    >I felt that way the last 8 years but I stuck by you.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and just will not ever agree on what's right. So let's just end it right now while we can do it on friendly terms.
    >That’s what the Rebel South tried to do years ago didn’t work.

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a portion.
    >Why bother splitting anything, our “Liberal” President commands the army?

You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell.
    >No really that’s ok – you can actually have Moore and O’Donnell.

We will keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, the greedy CEOS and all of the rednecks.
    >Ok – Deal.

We will keep our Judeo-Christian values.
    >Sorry I already have them we can share though.

retain the right to invade and hammer anybody
    >Wait – I thought you were keeping Christian values?

You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley Maclaine.
    >No Problem: “ love thy neighbor ” – “ judge not lest ye be judged ”

We will practice trickle-down economics and you can give trickle-up poverty your best shot.
    >Review French Economic Conditions pre- 1789 – “trickle up poverty” doesn’t work so well for Aristocracy just a thought.

And since it so offends you, we will keep our history, our name
    >Sorry, one side of my great, great, greats were pilgrims I’m already stuck with the history – good and bad.
    and our flag.
    >Is that the Rebel Flag?

red state/blue state divide won't work. the division has to be more precise than that. WE get most of california, essentially everything that's more than 20-30 miles from the coast. they get SF/Oakland/Berkley/LA/Hollywood, we get agriculture and water. good luck surviving without food or water guys, i'm sure we can work out a deal!!

same issues in many other "blue" states. those urban areas are yours, the resources are ours ;-)

First of all I want everyone to take what I'm about to say as positive. I believe that this country just may be too far gone to be taken back. The bible says in the end of time that people turn away from God. Our country was founded by god fearing men that loved their country very much. I'm sure they are rolling over in their graves right now trying to figure out what happened to the once beautiful U.S.A. Our so called leaders are corrupt to the bone,,,everyone of them. We have become a nation of pacifists. No backbone what-so-ever. We have given up our borders, language, and our pride so as not to offend anyone. Our country is broke spiritually, socially, and financially. All these money hand-outs called "stimulus" is garbage and we all know it, if you have any sense at all. I am beginning to believe that Wall Street is/has been taking us all for a ride for a long time now. Our so called leaders are involved up to their eyeballs. Look at some of B. Hussein Obama's appointees,,,3 of them have already been found to not like paying taxes. This my friends is evidently only the tip of the iceberg. People they are doing all this and more right in front of us and daring us to do anything about it. They are about to sensor talk radio. It's coming. The major newspapers across the country are already run by sick Liberals. Look at the sick Liberals on most of the major television newscasts. The likes of Katie Couric, Keith Oberman, Wolfe Blitzer, George Stephanopolis, to name a few. Look at the Liberal infested so called entertainment we have,,,David Letterman, Whoopie Goldberg, Ellen "Degenerant", Queen Opra, Brad Pitt, Georgie Cloonie, Barbara Streisand, Charlie Sheen, to name a few. All the degenerates I named above and plenty more I can't name, are quickly dismembering the moral fiber this country is based and was built on. I really see this country having a civil war very soon. We are divided now more than ever. Not black against white, but Liberalism/socialism against conservatives. We're very close. Back to what I mentioned earlier,,,I truely believe this is Biblical. Whether I'm right or wrong, socialism is in our front door right now. The government buying up banks, buying up insurance companies like AIG, nationalizing health care, very strong talk of taking guns from it's citizens, rewarding lazy behavior while penalizing the achievers, giving the segment of our society that pays no taxes to begin with a check and calling it a tax "refund", and finally endoctrinating our young through what is commonly known as public schools. I call them "government schools". In closing ,,,,maybe dividing this country up might not be a bad idea after all. We are already spiritually divided. People think about it,,,,are we really a United States of America anymore???
  • ...I guess morons still go to school...
I thought the job of our educational institutions was to root out these kinds of people? I would make a comment about Mr. Wall most likely going to a 3rd tier law school, but the neo-cons have infiltrated the upper-echelon's of our higher-educational society as well.

It doesn't strike me as odd that Boortz would support such backwards thinking either, considering his own letter to those he employs in which he, in an attempt to throw away any dignity and decency he wished to retain, I suppose, wrote, "

If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers. You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more."

Frankly, Mr. Boortz, you, Rush Limbaugh, and the rest of the neo-cons can and should leave this country. The less assholes we have holding us back, the more progressive we can be in forming a more unified and dignified country.
  • Oh what a day it would be
Only if we could divide, just the thought gives hope. It's crazy to think our biggest threat would be the now 3rd world bleeding heart librals we broke away from. Thats actually not too scary, I think we could handle an attack from a Zimbabwe clone.
  • @ JHenry
Funny you should use the line about God as the Creator, as most of the founding fathers were either deists or agnostics!
  • Good ol Days
yeahhhh remember the good ol days when every liberal threatened to leave the USA if Bush won.... too bad you didn't have the guts of your convictions/mouth. We wouldn't have these problems now....
  • Letter From A Law Student
Get ready to be offended as Neal might say. Truth often offends.

Should the nation be divided allowing conservatives freedom to make their own choices, there would be war. Liberals need rich conservatives to pay their taxes to Uncle Sam. It appears, from what we have observed in the Obama cabinet that 'rich' democrats do not actually pay their taxes. Well, maybe Hollywood folks could support the others. :-)

If we were able to seceed, both countries could retain the constitution. Liberals could have the constitution with all it's supreme court decisions and conservatives could take it as it was written, without the supreme court interpretations OR liberals could just drop the Bill of Rights.

Within five years or less, the conservative nation would have to deal with a dreadful immigration problem, and it would not be just citizens from Mexico.

Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. The civil war, however, was fought over the issue of 'state's rights'. Would states maintain the right to decide if they were to allow slavery or would the federal government decide that was the real issue? Most southerners were democrats. They were not, however, liberal democrats. JHenry got it right, however.

Those who think that all Republicans are conservative are just wrong. However, all conservatives are either Republican, Independent, or Libertarian. I have yet to find a liberal who isn't a democrat.

Perhaps I am repeating what others have stated here, and if so, forgive me. There were just too many comments to read them all.

Thank you Neal for helping educate the masses in the area of Political Science.
  • I think it's a great, and very funny letter
Obama/Pelosi/Reid and their type (unfortunately) have pushed so far as to make separation actually sound like a good idea.

Read French Trial Lawyer's post somewhere down the list here. The assumptions and statements within that post – at least in my mind – only reinforce and validate the whole idea that was humorously spelled out within the original letter. IMHO
  • Hehe
The left really came out of their holes for this one. Somebody must've posted the link on moveon or some such. LOL at comparing Obama to Thomas Jefferson, btw. I'd be vexed if it were coming from someone worth paying any attention to.

I'm more a fan of divorce as suggested, followed by war for territory and a new manifest destiny. Letting domestic communists hide under the protection of our laws just leaves us with more wars to fight.

There is no clause in the constitution protecting parasites that I'm aware of. Capitalism and socialism cannot peaceably coexist within the same border. Peaceful coexistence is difficult enough between nations that are thousands of miles away from each other.

The ideals of the left are nothing now that they've thrown the second amendment away. History won't remember them beyond a sideline in the margin.

Until then, we can put up with a few trolls I suppose.
  • JB
I read this law student letter three times trying to figure out where he suggested an all white nation and couldn't find it anywhere. Are you assuming there are no non-white capitalists or CEO's? Are you assuming all people with conservative values are white? Are we sure about who is a racist here?
    hmmmmmmm

BTW - John Wall is not a Boortz pseudonym - JJW is a real person.
  • illegals
the mega corporations need the illegals to keep wages low. Don't pretend like you don't want them here. The mega corporations love their low wages and don't give a flip about the burden on our system that EVERYONE pays for. The mega corporations that have benefited from the low wages should have to pay the burden on your system. I'm tired of subsidizing the ultra rich few at the top. The mega corporations are parasites and it has become evident by the handouts that they are begging for now.
  • OOps Lee
S'okay so long as were on the same page.....but check your spelling next time LOL.

GOOD OL DAYS - I hope you feel better after the rant. Now, have you tried to buy a gun or ammo for it lately? It's been like a run on the bank. We're gettin' ready for just the possibility that there may very well be another civil war in this country in the near future. Remember these words from one of our most brilliant founding fathers.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
I'll take a bullet for my freedom, my liberty, to uphold the constitution and for all those that believe in the same.
    Need I say more?
  • French Trial Lawyer
Excuse you? Libertarians are NOT like liberals. I am a libertarian thank you. We believe in personal freedom but do not think you have the right to shove it in everyone's faces or take away someone elses rights to get there, like most liberals do. That is the difference buddy. Go study up on that.
  • Freedom

  • Libertarianism
It comes as no surprise that someone who would lie about Classical Liberalism would also lie about Libertarianism.

Libertarianism is simply about limiting the government to protecting the individual from violence and fraud. That boils down to providing for the national defense and the courts.

Libertarians can disagree on where providing for the national defense becomes foreign aggression; and during the Iraq war the Libertarian party saw many of its previously loyal, I include myself, temporarily leave the party because we believed that deposing Saddam was in our national interest.

And we are not monolithic on abortion; many believe a woman has the right to make her own reproductive choices as she sees fit; others believe the government should protect the fetus at some point during the pregnancy, although that, too, is a moving target.

But it is by no means a millionaires' club. We are fiscally conservative and socially liberal. In other words, we want the government to butt out of both our financial and personal lives. We believe in individual responsibility and personal freedom with minimal government intrusion our lives.
  • Big Business vs. Big Government
Big Government develops as a counter balance to Big Business. The more business is allowed to grow ulimited powers, the more Big Government has to grow to control it.

From the days of Standard Oil to Enron to Madoff, the only way to protect citizens from out of control capitalism is through a more powerful government. Corporate America has no shame anymore--it blatantly steals pensions; poisons the environment; allows sick people to die; jobs to evaporate all in the name of profit for a greedy few.

I'm willing to call off my dog, if you'll call off yours. But, it doesn't look like that's happening.
  • OOPS!
I put in JoeSchmoe's name in the slot for my name instead of the subject line, which reads "Only Doing My Part."
  • Ah, I remember the good old days...
...When Boortz wasn't just a right-wing schill that pushed whatever extremist slop came across his desk. He actually thought about things and represented Libertarian views, rather than being a bobble-head doll for the typical conservative screeds.

As for the rest of you pansy conservobots? Do it. We dare you. Stop circle-jerking over every loudmouth that talks a lot of crap, and actually do it. Go ahead and make your glorious Redneck States of America. What's stopping you?

Fear. You are all afraid of actually having to test your glorious little ideas. You're all scared that it might not work out, so you'd rather stay right where you are and complain as obnoxiously as you can.

Do it, if you have the guts.
  • Casey
And therein lies the rub. The proposition that the government we had under GWB was pure capitalist is absolutely wrong.

The wars aside, government grew during GWB. That means government took over things that were being done previously in the free market. It means people who previously were employed in the private sector became employed by government. It means more social services were tacitly provided by government; however, most of the money allocated to those services (roughly 70 percent) was consumed by the bureaucracy while attempting to deliver those services.

That is by no means pure capitalism. And as long as we have an income tax, social security tax, medicare tax, corporate tax, capital gains tax, and any other tax that hampers the means of production, we won't have pure capitalism. Once we switch to a consumption tax, like the FairTax, we will be on the road to capitalism, but we have a far, far way to go, and we're currently headed full-speed in the other direction.
  • law student letter
I'm often surprised at the lack of "common sense" displayed by some of our intellectuals. Industry aligns with population centers because they serve as bases for employee and customer support. Ironically, liberal policies only thrive in those "blue states" because because there are enough achievers working in for-profit industries to financially support welfare programs.

Moreover, America is NOT defined by liberalism; secular, social or otherwise. Its founding is rooted in a belief in God as the Creator, such that its citizens look to their individuality and collective strength as the true power in this country. The government, by design, is not to rule over the people as is the case in solcialist societies. The role of government, as defined in our Constitution, is to "provide for the common defense, promote the GENERAL (not personal!) welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty..". As modern liberlism and socialism are hardly separable, it is ludicrous to suggest that leftist ideals serve as the basis for our society. Have we forgotten that a war was fought at the outset to secure a limited government and a free-market economy? Wasn't it individualism rather than collectivism that made our country the sole superpower with the world's highest standard of living?

The Jim Crow south was not all-white, otherwise there would have been no cause for segregationist laws. The Old South was possible because the essential nature of the US Constitution was being ignored. The system was based on the premise that all men are NOT created equal. When our constitution was enforced, segregation as an institution collapsed.

And I don't know of Boortz to misrepresent himself to hide from his opinions -- after 30+ years of success, why would he need to?
  • LETS FILE IT !
I say we get Nancy Pelosi served with the papers right away. I will even volunteer to pay the fee for sheriffs service. FILE IT !
  • 8 Years of What?!?
    >

Um..... when was this? Democrats ran the show in Congress for the first two years of Bush's presidency, thanks to Jumpin' Jim Jeffords. Pelosi and Reid ran Congress with a Social Democrat majority for the final two years.

That leaves 2003-2006 (although 2004 barely counts due to the year-long sermonizing of Jean Francious al-Qerry). I guess prior to 2003, there was no such thing as war, poverty, destruction, etc.?
  • TonyATL
Tony, ideas and beliefs may change some over time, but I think most of us who like this idea still believe the Constitution and the Bill of Rights guide us. We haven't strayed too far from that. And would probably make very few changes if any to the document in the event a new country emerged.
  • re: fallacy of equivocation
Yes, it is true that classical liberalism is akin to libertarianism – of the left-wing variety. Libertarians do not have to be of the I’m-a-millionaire-wanna-be-and-have the-right-to-watch-you-starve-in-the-street variety, eg., Neal Boortz’s followers. Libertarians can be liberally slanted, as was Jefferson, Franklin & Co. The relevant point of history is there has always been a reactionary faction that says “No you can’t”, be it King George III, or more recently George Bush and his followers on this post. These groups are universally representative of “conservatism” because of their opposition to progress. The “yes we can”, or “liberal” side has always been represented by agents of change, such as Jefferson and Obama.
Republicans are so confused by this, eg., poor Deb apparently thinks George III was a liberal . . . . Hannity thinks Democrats are fascists (an impossibility by definition)- he should have gone to college. The struggle, no matter what labels you give to the respective sides, is really about obtaining more freedom (liberal) versus having less freedom (conservative). This has been true throughout modern history in every example or instance of societal or governmental change. Conservatives have universally opposed progress in every instance.
Meanwhile, Republicans pine away for the good ole days, when women were chattels and goats were scared.

  • Only Doing My Part
If we all say the same thing several different ways, the point may eventually come to clarity for the confused and expose the liars for who they really are.

That liberals must lie to justify their position is no surprise: Who in his right mind would pay more to become less free? So, liberal elites resort to double-speak. They assert that only the rich and businesses will pay, while failing to mention that what the rich and businesses pay invariably comes out of the hide of consumers in higher prices, lower wages (or lost jobs), and reduced contributions to their retirement funds. So, we will have to live through the process, again, to relearn the lessons of the Great Depression.

I am on the horns of an emotional dilemma. I do not welcome the pain most of us who cannot easily pull up our stakes and start anew elsewhere or sit it out these next four years must endure. However, I do welcome the unfolding lesson on how big government is the problem, not the solution. Let's hope that misery is acute enough for the masses that they soon come understand that they've been lied to: There ain't no free lunch. And when government is providing the alleged free lunch, it takes a nice little 70 percent handling fee. Perhaps they will then understand the self-sufficiency and individual freedom are two sides of the same coin.
  • Letter from a rotten husband
    Dear Wife,

Even though we get along and have been married for half a century, I want a divorce.

You hate, you get offended. I have done nothing wrong. Ever. If you hadn't balanced our budget and lowered our deficit in 2000, I never would have spent all of that money during the next eight years. You handed me a loaded weapon then acted surprised when I emptied it during that glorious, drunken, eight year spree. You know I love guns. How dare you?

That was some run you missed but honestly babe, I can't relax in a strip club when you're around so it was best you were not involved -- but I digress -- thing is, I spent all of the money. I mean alllllll of it. And now you want to act me? Forget it. I'm out of here.

    Oh how I loath sobriety.

    Signed,
    Your perfect, flawless husband

PS - I left a bill for 10 trillion on the kitchen table. Please pay it.
  • I'm ready
I want to be on this side !!!
  • splitting the nation
I am a Florida native and I would like nothing more than to see all the tri-state liberals go back home. But here they are and here they will stay. If it ever came down to splitting up the nation, I suggest right down the Mississippi River. West Coast gets the conservatives, East Coast gets the liberals. I realize I would have to move even if I don't want to, but logistics makes it imperative.

First, Alaska is west of the MS river and we will need the oil for our SUVs and trucks. Second, we can't trust the libs to protect our southern border.

This leaves Florida as the continual retirement haven for libs, but if they have an all-lib country, nobody will leave for tax-haven Florida anymore. They also get NYC and Chicago and Detroit.

All we would need to do is open a few auto plants anywhere and we would be home free. Leave all the other infrastructure to the libs and wait for them to call for aid like all the other loser countries who can't make socialism work.
  • Yeah, if only we could have a pure capitalist republican rich white male president and a majority republican capitalist rich white male congress then we could re-make this country into our perfect vision of... Oh wait--we did have that for the past 8 years.

It resulted in the largest deficit in history; war; destruction; poverty; and a depression. Whoops. Maybe I am wrong...Nah--

Andrew, no, it most certainly is not (and I did not say it is) . . . shame on any web site of any partisan persuasion that censors dissenting opinion or blocks users with contrary points of view. And shame on anyone who posts any messages to such forums that suggests dissenting opinion is unwanted or unwelcome.

I learned in high school civics, and continue to believe, that "he who does not understand his opponent's arguments does not understand his own." BTW, even though my politics are slightly left of center ("California republican" - conservative fiscally; liberal culturally), I spend more time on conservative forums like this or townhall than in liberal echo chambers. Frankly, though, comments on townhall do sometimes cross the line from civilized discourse to petty and juvenile ugliness . . like those who wished and relished for Ted Kennedy's death when townhall posted an article about his hospitalization; after a few dozen such comments went up, the article mysteriously came down from the site). At least Boortz.com commentators generally tend to stay within the bounds of socially acceptable issue discussion.

    WHITE POWER!!"

Wait a minute, we say we want to get rid of the lazy people looking for a handout, and JB states we will be left a nation that is pure white and WE ARE THE RACISTS?????? Pot meet Kettle!!!

Thank You for making my point better than I did.
  • TonyATL
Sir, The definitions of Classical Liberalism and Social Liberalism are clearly different. Liberalism by definition is actually a good thing in my opinion. It just depends on which flavor. You refer to an 'expansion' of classical liberlism. Mince words all you wish. This 'expansion' you refer to is just another way of saying 'social liberalism'. Not good. I dare say that this 'radical' (as you put it) classicial liberalism is much closer to conservative ideals and respects the constitution and is therefore more acceptable(in my opinion)than the other.
  • If you hate America so much, why don't you leave?
Damn right-wing authoritarian blowhards. If you hate the secular liberal foundation and philosophy that defines America, then why don't you leave? There are alot of countries in the Middle East with fundamentalist and authoritarian right-wingers who hate liberals and love guns and believe exactly the things you believe. You belong there, please leave America since you clearly despise those things that make her great. "Liberals" love America but hate war based on lies, torture as policy, and the perversion of our constitution and founding institutions. "Conservatives" love guns, racism, and war, and hate anything resembling acceptance of those who are different than they are. The overwhelming majority of radicals in this country are RIGHT WING radicals who hate America. Personified by Boortz and the rest of the hate talk crowd. Get out of the US, for the good of the country.
  • gov
People wake up!! Democrats , republicans, liberals, conservatives, and everybody in between all need to pay attention. What is happening to our country happens to us all. If you think just because you have no stocks its ok for Wall Street to suffer or if you have no money in the bank its ok for the bank to close or you do not shop in a certain store so let it close up and that will be fine then please do not have children and pass down your genes. These are not good days for our country and most of the blame can be placed on our government and in turn on us for not paying attention. Our government would like to see us on our knees so they can make us feel that they know what's best. These people(politicians)put us in this mess and we are going to trust them to fix it. It is time to take our country back. Let our elected officials know that they do what is right or they do not go back. Also it is time to push for the Fair Tax. Lets take the IRS rope from around our necks and a some power away from our politicians.
  • Nooo... not the Subarus!
Hey, enough of the Subaru bashing. I live in the Rocky Mountains and Subaru's AWD system is the best I've ever driven on snow and ice. No slipping and no crabbing. I too had contempt for the ubiquitous Outbacks until I actually drove one through the mountains on 8 inches of fresh snow with no chains. It made a believer out of me!
  • Yup
French trial lawyer pretty much hit it on the head. Most of the nation's wealth and economic activity is concentrated in the blue states. They are also the centers of almost all art, music, social, and every other kind of worthwhile cultural activity or advancement.

Many (not all) red states, on the other hand, are hardly different from any third world country and are inhabited by ignorant and backward thinking populaces. It's no wonder why they have stagnated so.

Also, the rednecks and Christians participating in this exodus? I can't wait!
  • 5 year plan
Okay to get this started, divide the states after 5 years from the events listed below.
    1. Immediately lower everyone’s federal tax by 70-80% and the money lost will go to each state by raising their taxes.
    2. The federal government will only do things that effect the United States as a whole, international affairs, and pay for the military (as they should be)
    3. No pork will come from DC, states will be responsible for their own states (gee sounds like the 10th amendment) because they now have the funds from their own citizens
    4. This will bring on competition between states for employers to bring their business to the state(s) they prefer, if a state raises taxes and add regulations on businesses, they may just pack up and leave.
    5. As states learn that entitlement mentality doesn’t work and stop pushing out the achievers through higher taxes and regulations, they will understand that you reward the productive and ignore the unproductive. But if a state prefers to keep the entitlement mentality and punish the achievers, these states will group together to become the United Liberal States of Misery. The rest will become the productive states with true freedom (keep what I earn, earn what I keep, and I decide on what to spend it on or donate to)
Prediction, the liberal states will tax the more productive at a higher tax rate and reward the underachievers with welfare and no taxes all in the name of fairness, they will have an unemployment rate of over 20%, basically the more productive, the more taxes, the less productive, the more entitlements and more welfare (to each according to their needs, from each according to their ability). The other states will have the fair tax and unemployment rate of less than 3%
San Francisco will be one capital and leaders will be sworn in with one hand on the communist manifesto
The other capital Dallas/Oklahoma city/Omaha/Grand Tetons? So many choices and leaders will be sworn in with one hand on the bible
  • @Proud Blue Stater
You obviously know nothing of Alabama if you're so eager to get rid of it. Any idea where the Saturn V rocket/Patriot Missile/GMD came from? You might want to do a little research before you open your mouth and spew ignorant comments.
  • Hey Jim
Yeah it was tried before by the socialists. And you answered your own question about how it ended up. One doesn't exist, the other forces its citizens to eat rats to survive.
  • Bring it on, libs
I heartily endorse the notion that we carve out the left coast for the moonbat liberals, give them the rust-belt, the corrupt northeast corridor and we keep everything else in between. You don't like the military? Fine, we'll keep that. You don't like oil, coal or natural gas? You keep your windmills and solar panels, we'll sell you oil and gas at premium prices. You like illegal alients? Take 'em, you can pay for their education, healthcare and food. You want to teach sex ed in grammar school? Great, you take care of all the preganant teens and fatherless children. You want someone to take care of all your problems? Great, move to Cuba. We don't want you in our country. You want English as a second/third/fourth language? Great, we'll take all the English-language media outlets, you take the NYT, CNBC, CNN, Telemundo and Al-Jazeera. You want socialized medicine? Great, you can have that. We'll sell medical treatment visas when your people realize they can't get treatment under socialized healthcare. But you'd better bring your wheelbarrows because your money won't be worth very much.
  • Blue Collar Confused History
The creation of a Republic here after our Revolution was one of the greatest achievemnents of liberalism. Yes, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were radical liberals. This proves confusing to the Rush-Hannity minions. Even more confusing is the allegiance of certain blue collar and bourgeois Southerners to a party that works against their economic interests.

"And this diversity of views is a good thing, despite the feelings of some conservatives who are annoyed by "liberal trolls" posting to conservative boards, because wouldn't it be just awful to once in a while be exposed to another point of view."

try posting anything remotely resembling a conservative on the 'Democratic Underground' or any other liberal forum or blog. Not only will it NOT get posted, but you will be banned from the site. Is that your idea of 'open minded'?
  • Fallacy of Equivocation
To suggest that what is today known as Liberalism, which would better be known as either Socialism or Progressivism (as in the Progressive Income Tax) shares its roots with Classical Liberalism is intellectual dishonesty. Writers from Bastiat (The Law) to Hayek (The Road to Serfdom) used the term Liberal in contrast to Statist, which in today's lingo is Totalitarian.

A more appropriate modern term for the philosophy indicated by Classical Liberal is Libertarian. Go to http://www.lp.org/ and http://www.cato.org/ for further discussion on this.

Today's liberals are tomorrow's Totalitarians/Communists. Their leaders aspire to be among the controlling elite over the proletariat. But as Solzhenitsyn explained in "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch: "They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work." Remove the profit motive in the name of "fairness" and the producers are no longer motivated to produce. They will be motivated to take their business (and assets) elsewhere. Fortunately for them, their prime assets are their talents, ambitions, and work ethics. Even if they must leave their material assets behind, they will succeed when they set up shop elsewhere.

Conversely, the totalitarians/communists will again fail because even with control over the means of production they will not have the talent to maintain a functioning system. They will squander their spoils, just like the lottery winner who finds himself deep in debt than when he bought the ticket.
  • history...
Wasn't this tried before?.. Germany, Korea. How'd those end up?
  • Great to see diversity of views here for a change
Usually the Boortz comment boards are an echo chamber where 95% of the postings reinforce each other's thinking; i.e., the usual Boortz/ Rush/ Hannity/ Coulter talking points straight from the RNC. For some reason, however, this "letter from a law student" board seems to have brought out a more balanced set of views . . . e.g., I love your posts, French Trial Lawyer (even though I despise trial lawyers). And this diversity of views is a good thing, despite the feelings of some conservatives who are annoyed by "liberal trolls" posting to conservative boards, because wouldn't it be just awful to once in a while be exposed to another point of view.
  • Give them CA.
We should take everything East of (and including) the Rockies. Let them merge with Canada if they feel they need more land. We should retain rights to AK though, but that's alright, there is much else to do there except hunt and drill for oil. Both are activities that the Liberals loathe.

Now you know why our Founding Fathers establihed the kind of government here in the USA. A REPUBLIC!!! They left the Liberal thinking and living behind them for something better when they left Europe.
  • North Carolina Builder
Hate to tell you this, but if the country is divided up based on the last election you would be living in Obama country. The majority of people here in North Carolina voted for Obama.
  • The Big D
    Sounds good to me.
We get the Swedish Bikini Volleyball team and you get anyone who has ever driven a Volvo.
We get the hard worker Beer & Brats crowd and you get the French whine/water sipping Brie eating uppity snobs.
We get the hunters & fishermen who provide healtier food for the family & you get the Animal Rights Activitists, tree huggers, vegans, pagans, stinking hippies & Code Pink.
We get the entire Palin Family with grandchild & you get the Suleman Tribe, all 14, their hospital & diaper bills. Don't even think of throwing the used diapers away.
We will keep Ronald Reagan & Charleton Heston in our hearts and you can have Sean Penn & George Clooney on your pedestal.
We will keep our guns and our belief of self defense/protection and you get 911 with the callers who complain about McDonalds is out of McNuggets.
We keep the title of USA and you can call the left coast "Pelosia", Illinois & Wisconsin can become "Obamastan" and the NE can be called the Peoples Republic of Kennedy.

However: We get Uncle Teddy. We need an example to show our kids what went wrong with America.
  • Letter from Law Student
I have given this same idea some thought lately. In terms of dividing up the land mass I have an idea. Why don't we use footbal conferences to divide up the land mass? We get the Southeastern Conference, the ACC and Texas and OK of the Big 12. We could also add the at-large states of Utah, Wyoming (culturally they should be in the South) and North Dakota - we will need the SAC base at Minot. That way we get good college football, offshore drilling in the Gulf plus the all of Big Oil in TX, the (profitable, non union) auto manufacturing jobs in AL (Hyundai, Benz), SC (BMW), TN (Nissan), Jack Daniels, Country Music (Nashville), the truely best beaches in North America - (Florida Panhandle - AKA the Redneck Riviera), the best food (New Orleans) almost all the Bowl Games and a region that has produced many of the Founding Fathers plus many of the best political leaders (except for Jimmy Carter).
  • PS
As a point of history, it should be noted that every great advance made by society since Feudalism has been the product of "liberal" thinking. This includes but is not limited to, The American Revolution, The French Revolution, the creation of Capitalism, the abolition of slavery, universal suffrage, etc. etc. Read 'em and weep, all ye rednecks, talibans and like-minded folk.
  • Break up the country based on the last election
I figure the counties that went to Obama can be his. The rest is ours. Guess that means Obama will need to import ALL their food and fuel from us...
  • Re: French Trial Lawyer
You may have some of the best beaches and music, but you will also have all the illegal aliens living with you. They will know that the Liberals will pay for everything for them. The rest of us will not. They know that they will not be welcomed. Also, if a Liberal would like to live in the other 44 states or buy property, you're not welcomed either!
  • JoeShmoe
Joe, I see and understand your point. I think it is fair to quibble with some of the recent 'expansions' to classical liberalism. I do wish to point out however, that what we consider 'classical' liberalism today was labeled 'radical' back then.

So it's highly probably that future Americans will regard this brand of populist liberalism as 'classical' and acceptable. :-)

To jack, sure hope you are a cook and don't carry a gun. You, like obozo are a pretty scarry person on interest.
  • History at work
Folks, we are missing something very important here. Liberals believe that our bigger and bigger government is working FOR them. Conservatives KNOW that our bigger and bigger government is working against us. It's so sad that so many people are surprised by what is happening. To all of you who begged for a government free of morals: congratulations, you win. Is no one on the liberal side ashamed of themselves?
Big government that violates its own laws is HERE TODAY! Always, always, always the government gets bigger than the people can or will support. ALWAYS!!! Always, always, always the people rise up and destroy it!(see the French Revolution) ALWAYS!!! Or, it simply collapses from within.( See the Soviet Union) ALWAYS!!!! Guess what's coming folks: Collapse OR Revolution. It's inevitable. Too many people in this nation WANT the government to do it all for them. AS ALWAYS THOSE WHO DO, WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THOSE WHO DON'T!!!!!!! We have the most ignorant populace in history today. Sure we have high literacy but we believe freedom and liberty equates to more channels on our big screen. To quote John Adams(one of the framers of the constitution and close friend of Thomas Jefferson) "Our constitution is only suited to a moral and religious people. It is wholly unsuited to the governance of any other kind." Seems as though he was right. The immoral and irreligious among us have been allowed to set policy for long enough that now the constitution and certainly the future of this nation are in danger. But as I stated earlier, history shows that there is NO CHOICE!!!

Cool! We get California, New York, the best music, the best beaches and of course, medical marijuana. You get Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia (but the hippies and homeboys will carve out Atlanta, kind of like a West Berlin). You righties also get most of the unwed mothers, the highest divorce rate, most of the illiterate population, and the biggest prison population per capita in the world. You also get to keep George Bush (don't torture yourselves too much). We get most of the scientists, authors and nobel prize winners. You get a big fat guy with a highschool education telling you what to think – what’s his name? Rush? Yeah, that’s him. He’s yours. We get the banks and stock exchanges. Most of the nations GNP will be produced by us, but that’s ok. You can work in our country but those of you making $250,000 a year or more will have to pay 3% more in taxes than you did under W. Cheers!
  • Re: Spare Me....
Tony, you're right. The problem conservatives are having with todays liberalism (I think) is not the classical liberal ideals, it's todays socialist liberal ideals. But hey, thanks for bringing it up.

Talk Radio has clouded yours. George Bush admitted that we did not find WMDs.
  • @TonyATL: Spare us.
From the lame excuses and how "liberalism" supposedly saved humanity. You elected a socialist that reflects every liberal stereotype in your talking points. FDR's "New Deal" and LBJ's "Great Society" resulted in a welfare state, where the recipients pass it along to their kids like a damned heirloom. Conservatives encourage assissting the truly needy, not creating an underclass with taxpayer's money.

"However, the basic tenant is to give everyone the opportunity succeed or fail."

Realy? Tell that to your 'Dear Leader'.
  • Red at heart living in a Blue State
"We can continue to argue back and forth and polarize our differences or we can just have a revolution and start over with two or three countries." - funny you say this about a revolution. I live in Philadelphia where we signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Our fore fathers broke away from English rule to create a republic and a great place to live. Slowly, liberals realized how great things were here so they migrated and brought their voting habits with them. Now they are destroying this country! If they want socialism there is all of Europe or even Canada. If liberals complain about our Constitution then why are they here? We shouldn't have to divide the country, we should send the liberals to Canada! They can deal with them!
  • Spare Me With The Liberalism Is Evil Mantra...
Well I hope Mr. Law ‘student’ doesn’t plan to represent the secessionists. There's a bit more history he'll need to brush up on. :-)

I’m sure it’s not going to change any of your minds, but the demonization of liberalism is so misplaced it makes me chuckle every time I see it in action.

    1. "All men are created equal" really meant no one is born to a different order, above other men, as in monarchy and aristocracy. Liberalism meant the removal of traditional or arbitrary distinctions that were imposed on people. Liberalism meant the removal of social obstacles enabling each man to have, as Lincoln put it, "an equal chance to run the race of life." Liberalism meant restraints on the power of the state. Liberalism meant a government of laws, not of men. It meant the self-government of a people, through their constitution and system of laws.

This is what is called 'Classical' Liberalism...American Style. (I.e. The clear break from Europe.)

    2. Liberalism changed to the use of government to prevent the wealthy from having too much power, and to improve and raise up people's condition and (in its Great Society phase) to make them equal. Instead of meaning restraints on government (because unrestrained government had earlier been seen as the main threat to liberty), liberalism now means the indefinite expansion of government to expand the provision of concrete social goods, ranging from Social Security to dams (Hoover) to art and music to organizations devoted to every kind of supposed social improvement.

Dare I say, this entire country was founded off of several brands of 'liberalism'. What became known as the 'American Standard' shaped the rest of the world. I.e. The end to child labor laws in industrialized countries, a 40 hour work week, equal rights under the law, the right to bear arms (Modern day Liberals simply want regulation because of crazy people...), and hell....even the ramps at the end of the sidewalks for the handicap is based off of Liberal Ideology.

Yes there are extremists in the Modern Liberalism camp, but that’s the case on both sides and they should be checked. However, the basic tenant is to give everyone the opportunity succeed or fail.

    P.S.
Police & Fire departments were born out of Liberal policies as well. They were deemed important enough to our society that we fought for additional taxes to pay for them. The old world conservatives thought everyone should be responsible for their own policing and fire needs.

But in the age of 30 second sound bites, who has time to truly research history. :-)

  • RE: Blue Stater Response
    @Blue Stater
"We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs." -- LOL, let's see how long they stay on your side of the country with your oppressive taxation and wealth redistribution.

    "We get Intel and Microsoft."
    ditto the above

"We get two-thirds of the tax revenue.
You get to make the red states pay their fair share." What part of an EVEN split do you not understand? that means 50/50 silly, go back and learn some math. Tax your own base if you want money, lets see who stays prosperous and who goes broke first.

"Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families.
You get a bunch of single moms." I'm sorry but I would be willing to bet with you taking the major cities that your single mother inner city rate would be largely disproportionate to the redneck single mother rate. Furthermore, the fact that most christian families support actual family values (even if the politicians who give lip service to it do not practice this), I would argue that happy families would be abundant on the red side of things, unlike same sex couples (not even biologically correct, how can it be morally correct?) and the welfare recipients who produce litters of future prison inmates to milk the system and avoid having to actually "work" for anything. There is a reason for the joke: "What is the most confusing day in the inner city? Father's Day."

We can continue to argue back and forth and polarize our differences or we can just have a revolution and start over with two or three countries.
Ultimately the people should be able to decide where they want to live and under what type of oppressive government they want to live under, not some stupid polarization of "Parties" that don't even follow their core ideological platforms anymore.

  • He hit the nail on the head.
  • In the "divorce", make the divide according to red vs. blue states
In this divorce, let's divide the U.S> according to traditionally red states and traditionally blue states.

A perspective from the "divorce lawyer" for the blue states, written to the red states:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get the Statue of Liberty.
    You get Dollywood.

    We get Intel and Microsoft.
    You get WorldCom.

    We get Harvard.
    You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85% of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs.
    You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue.
You get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22% lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families.
You get a bunch of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home.

We do wish you success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire. With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines, 90% of all cheese, 90% of the high tech industry, 95% of the corn and soybeans (thanks Iowa!), most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92% of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you. Additionally, 38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're
discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is "only a theory", 53% believe that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Since no intelligent, rational person would want to live in either of the two countries resulting from Wall's plan, let's make it three: one each for the rednecks and the hippies, and an America where the rest of us can live in peace and comity without all the wingnuts.

  • Divorce Division
I'm Libertarian, but the proposed divorce, sounds as though it would advocate a national religion. Isn't that the same idea that muslim fanatics have?
  • Dividing Up the Country
It will take at least three sections to pull this off: One for the liberal/looters; one for the socially conservative Christians who will finally live out their dream to have a Christian nation where all sins are outlawed (I'm sure Saudi Arabia can assist in setting this up); and a Free State where Libertarian ideals, including Liberty, Freedom of AND from Religion, and Individual Responsibility are the laws of the land.
  • When can we start?
This is great idea. As we all know the issue of States' Rights and whether or not a State can leave the union was never settled legally....only by the brute force of government. (This and excessive taxation were the primary issues for why the War of Secession in the 1860's, not slavery for government educated types out there.)
We currently have a whole generation of Americans that are embracing a Socialistic nanny government state. Heck, if this divorce went final, I would be more than happy to say good-by and good riddance to the United Socialist States of America and hello to the United Free States of America.
  • How 'bout three countries?

If you really want to separate it and figure it out, you'd see that those medical companies are mostly liberal, as are the doctors. Liberals will sell you the services, if you can afford them. But seeing how the most conservative states rely the most on federal money already anyway, that's just all the better for the liberals because now conservatives won't be leeching off the higher productivity of the blue states.

Unfortunately, comparing red vs blue, blue has a higher median income, better health coverage, and gives more to the government per dollar than it takes, higher literacy rates, and less poverty... oh and also less violent crime per capita. For all that crap about taking the drug companies, they're not on your side.

  • DIVORCE AGREEMENT!
This is in response to Copyleft:
Actually, the conservatives will get to refer to our country as "America" as we are the ones who appreciate the values and traditions set forth by our Founding Fathers. Copyleft gave me an even bigger laugh when he stated "Oh, and we liberals are keeping the flag and the Constitution. We're the only ones who have any use for them, after all". Liberals actually following what it states in the Constitution...that's rich!! If any liberal could tell me where in the Constitution it states: my hard earned money can be confsicated by the government and used for swine odor and manure management research in Iowa, that our immigration laws are to be totally ignored, that moronic liberal judges can legislate from the bench using decisions from foreign courts, that the 2nd amendment can be ignored at the government's whim as in Washington DC and Chicago's gun bans, that the government can through either the Fairness Doctrine or loaclism or some other insidious plan stifle free speech on the radio or anywhere else, that the federal government educate our children, that the Census can be used for political purposes, that Washington DC can be given a voting member of Congress just because the Democrats want one...the list goes on and on. The truth is conservatives appreciate the Constitution AS WRITTEN and are the true guardians of the nation left to us by the likes of Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Hamilton and Madison. I get sick of hearing from liberals "the Consitiution is a living document"(in a liberal whiny voice of course) to be changed and shaped as circumstances dictate. The only problem with this is that the Constitution was written to govern people, not circumstances and while circumstances can and often do change, the true nature of people never has. Hence, the conservatives will be much better stewards of our founding documents than any liberal ever could be, so best to move them with the productive people. We'll take the flag too as a white sheet would be much more in line with the type of flag that you should have. May I also suggest a name for your new liberal paradise..."Head Up Posteriorstan"

  • you are wise beyond you years john
I'm not a law student, just a non-nalc letter carrier(thats or worthless union) that hopes my son at UVA will eventually see the the light! Thanks

For the full explanation, read John Galt's speech in Atlas Shrugged. Also checkout We The Living. For those who still don't know what's going on, and hate to read, just rent the movies Dr. Zhivago, Sound of Music, and even Gone With The Wind (part 1). Most movies about the Bolsheviks or Nazies are too cartoonish.

For a political party that supposedly is all about individual rights, you guys lobby pretty hard against it at every turn. Just another case of fraud put forward by the GOP. I was once a member of the GOP and the College Republicans. I left when I realized I was being sold out to the religious faction of the party.
  • Stevo you tard.
I'm sick of this "culture based on Christianity" crap. This nation was formed on the ideas of the enlightenment and to escape religious persecution. It was not and never will be a "Christian" nation. It was the church's persecution of believers that created this nation. Their intolerance cause many protestants to flee Europe and they wrote the Constitution in a manner to allow religious and moral freedom from the government. This nation is based on liberty and freedom, not religious moral agenda.

I grew up in the church and went to Christian schools. I remember hearing that same rabble. But when you actually read the works of Thomas Pain, Franklin, Jefferson, and other works from the French Revolution and Enlightenment you'll understand that they were trying to get away from this moral imperative which oppressed the rights of the people. They were about as far away from Christianity as you could possibly get. The Christian agenda is a 20th century invention starting just before prohibition and we all know how well that worked. Religion and Government don't mix.
  • Excellent Letter.
I applaud John Wall for very effectively using the metaphor of divorce to highlight the intolerable state of intolerance that exists in American culture today. We have morphed from a country where once the struggle of the liberal cause was for the elimination of slavery of one group by another, to today's inverted program of actively enslaving a different class (the productive members of society) to toil in service of others (the less productive). The President and Congress have crossed a line for many people and we are no longer willing to remain silent while the efforts of our labor are confiscated and the government makes plans to micromanage the details of our existence. We are each autonomous individuals and have exclusive sovereignty over our lives. It is only a rigorous application of this principle of individualism that make it possible for a diverse group of people to coexist. Our speedy descent towards tribalism forces people to become intolerant of the differences in others, demanding that everyone adhere to the same policies and beliefs. This is not going to happen and, just as in a marriage where behavior of this type results in divorce, if this direction is not altered, as others have pointed out, it ultimately leads the country towards civil war.

I would like to quibble with one point John made. He said, "We will continue to believe that healthcare is a privilege and not a right." I agree that healthcare is not a right, but I also do not think it is a privilege. It is a valuable service offered by a highly trained professional which one "earns" by voluntarily trading the products of one's own labor for those of the doctor. Healthcare is no different than automotive care or lawn care. You decide what it is worth to you, and you fit it in appropriately to your purchase plans just like any other good or service. Hospitals, pharmacies, drug companies, insurance agencies, etc. are just like any other businesses, and it is time to recognize that no one has a claim on a doctor, pharmacist, researcher, insurer, or anyone else, just as they have no claim on you. We are all independent individuals and in this country we must relearn that voluntary trade is the only acceptable means to engage with one another. Let's hope the message is received before it is too late.

I pick the pro-capitalist side. We can still have Casinos, right? I really like casinos.
  • The America Divorce letter...
I would like to add a stipulation from the right, if I may. I request joint custody of Al Gore! Because its hard to find a public figure who makes you laugh as much as he does, and even conservatives need a good laugh every now and then!
  • To CopyLeft
You say you want the flag and the Constitution?

    What for?

Liberals only have one use for each of those.

One to burn and the other to violate.
  • Question
I heard somewhere that the Blue states on the net give more in the form of taxes and Red states on the net take in the form of welfare. Is this true? Also isn't all the cutting edge technology and sientific progress happening in blue states? How can red states have mighty military if the hitech remains in blue states? Just curious
  • Obama Lied and our country died
I've long said that the next war fought on US soil would be a civil war. I like the divorce idea better.

I'd also offer to kiss a pig with lipstick (but not Nancy Pelosi) as long as we don"t have to pay any alimony or child support to the hockey mom haters.

Cheetoh stained keyboard......FUNNY! Thanks for the laugh.

If Texas succeeds in secession, myself and my shotguns are gonna be the 1st in line to move there. We'll rent a car from ALAMO to get there!
  • That's a start
They can have the government schools and we will have private schools and a voucher system.

We will recognize that our society, traditions and culture are based on Christianity. You are free to practice whatever religion you want but if you want to stay, embrace our culture and traditions. Otherwise, the other side will be happy to change for you.

We will not only retain the Constitution, we will interpret it as it was written. That should eliminate most of the Federal Government.
  • Right on!
Wonder if that guy is single??
  • SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!!!
It would be so nice to have the 2 "America's" juxtaposed next to each other. What a great experiment!! It could be a way for the rest of the socialist, bed-wetting world see how great and prosperous a nation could be without all of the burdens placed on them by parasites and Government. I would be more for a true Libertarian form of Government except in regards to the military and our involvement in the affairs of hostile nations. In that respect we should be known as the HMFIC!! I work for my family owned company that is in its fourth generation of business...we employ 18 people and seem to be weathering the (so called) economic storm ok..I worry about the future if Obama and Co. continue to destroy American priciples of hard work and success. I hope everyone who voted for Obama and his ideology are ready for the fight when it comes....I know I am.
  • Trilobite
Well, at least you place them correctly in the Paleozoic. The rest... not so much. There were scavenger species, but they also included predators and filter-feeders. They were very diverse, but didn't have anything more in common with cockroaches than being arthropods. They weren't even terrestrial.

But... yeah - I can definitely see the Trilobite in Susan Sarandon. Yah.

    Take that, you Cynodont!!!

I bet you were more into Tim Curry.
  • The Day Is A Coming!
Amen! A great idea long overdue. The day is coming when rational hard-working Americans will say "Enough is enough" with all the socialism that has gradually progressed since the beginning of Social Security. Our society doesn't even know what real freedom is anymore. I see many Boston tea parties on the horizon!
  • Trilobite
Know what one is? Why would I use the word if I didn't know that a trilobite is a prehistoric bottom-feeder, a Paleozoic cockroach.

  • INAL - I am not a Liberal
I am not a liberal but this letter is crap. I'm all for separating the communists from the capitalists, however this equating liberalism to anything but Christianity is total crap. This problem all started back when a beloved president merged morality with politics and stripped this nation of states rights. So your "conservativism" can shove it, because John J Wall you are just as much of the problem as the far left. You may want economic freedom, but your blue laws, over filled prisons, and all the other moral baggage you attached to government can be left at the door.

I want my freedom. "Don't tread on me."
  • Squeel racism
Please note how any position contrary to Obama (May His name be blessed) is considered racist.
  • total agreement
I think this latest pathetic nonsense with the Rush Limbaugh attack and then the sick msm obsession with the damn swingset set me over the edge. Obama and his pathetic supporters would last about 2 months before begging to reconsider

GREAT LETTER AND REALLY GREAT IDEA!

Where can I sign up for this ride. This will be the best in years. Thank you John J Wall for expressing how 95% of us are feeling.

Love it!!! What will it be like ten years after? The responsible country (we’ll call it Reagan) will prosper and the irresponsible country (will call it Carter/Obama or just Kumbaya) will faultier, for those of you who can remember, it will be a difference between East and West Germany, and North and South Korea, the border cities will look nice an inviting, until you get a mile or so inside Kumbaya, than it’s complete despair or shared prosperity (aka, shared depression, but the government will keep informing the sheeple that they are living the good life). The country of Reagan will keep the 3 strikes rules, if you get 3 strikes you are shipped to the country of Kumbaya, plus if you become irresponsible for too long, you are also shipped to kumbaya, you’ll be welcomed with open tree hugging arms. The country of Reagan will help the helpless (the people, not government), but will ignore and/or ship out the worthless. I’d love it, getting paid what you’re worth, not what you think you’re worth.
  • Fine with me!
One point he left out, though...

We get to call our country "America." I'm not sure what you'll be calling yours... perhaps "Jesus-stan Incorporated" or something similarly moronic?

Oh, and we liberals are keeping the flag and the Constitution. We're the only ones who have any use for them, after all.
  • Robbie
Great image, Robbie - I just visualized you typing that... by the sound of it, you're typing in your underwear from your mom's basement and getting orange Cheetoh stains all over the keys. I feel very intimidated!

I am a conservative business woman who for 35 years works in the American Dream, have never protested and have never been an advocate for extremist movements; however, with Obama and the "democratic/socialist" party in power, I am ready to sign up for the new, capitalist, conservative, Bible carrying, armed (.357 works for me)United States of America. I will be one of the first to fight for the right to work and own your business, my children should inherit more than debt. We have not worked for 35 years to build this business for the socialist to steal this from my children. I don't even know it will survive the next 10 years, which is when I planned to retire and turn this to the children; all of which started as file clerks and shop janitors when they were 14 years old. No one has handed or will hand them anything they have not earned.

Will I get in trouble if I copy this and send it around? I don't care! When and where does the constitutional convention start, so we can get on with it?
  • I'm extremely grateful that someone has found a good way of expressing what we've all been feeling. Perhaps it is indeed time to divide this country.

Thank you John J Wall for writing this, and Neal, thank you for taking the time to put this on the site.

Once again, the notion of secession rears its ugly head. Only this time, a fair amount of "Black people" will be on the "Right" side. (That's right! I'm also including myself in the mix.) Liberalism (nee: SLAVERY!!) Be damned!!!
  • 'Socialist Home Yankee Territory' [SHYT] States.
They can call themselves the 'Socialist Home Yankee Territory' [SHYT] States.
Clearly they think that this whole 'Constitutional Bill of rights' thing is cramping their style.
The Socialists can go off by themselves and suppress free speech and restrict one's basic civil right of self defense. Not to mention what they see as the archaic notion of private property.
They can set up there own little version of the worst aspects of Cuba and North Korea and leave us alone.
  • I more thing
We will als keep the Constitution, and Declaration of Independence
  • funny - we have the same friends
This guy gets around - he sent the same letter to a friend of mine who forwarded it to me. Did he let you know he was sending the letter to people besides you?

I hope you were polite enough not to reply to him saying "ba ha ha ha ha! You're an ignoramus!" Just because he is isn't any reason to tell him that.

P.S. Any idea if dude even exists?
  • I totally agree with the law student. I'm staying on the side with the guns and rednecks. I bet in 5-10 years they go over to the liberals and take them over. After all, with no guns or big vehicles they can't fight back or run away. Liberals are a bunch of p@#$%.
  • great idea
I can't think of a better way to part. This would be perfect and make everyone happy. I would love to separate ignorance and irrationality from competence and responsibility.
  • Love it!
Can I stay even though I'm not religious? Everything else I'm totally in agreement.
  • Can we please?
This is the best idea I've heard since the 80's.
